OnePlus 5 was discovered to have got a bug which caused the device to reboot when an emergency 911 call is placed in the US or 999 call in the UK. This prompted OnePlus to push OTA updates which fixed the software issue which they fingered to be a modem memory issue affecting some devices and causing the crash. A similar bug was also reported to have affected a couple of other Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Sony Xperia Z3, and LG G3.

After the bug has been fixed, a new issue seems to have popped up on some OnePlus 5 models. In particular, some users have aired their complaints on the OnePlus official forum of excessive battery drain, especially when the device is left powered on and in standby mode overnight. The issue seems to affect Indian users of the OP5 and the advice OnePlus officially has for them is that those having a Reliance Jio LTE SIM card in the second slot should turn it off as it requires quality LTE signal otherwise, the phone keeps searching for signal and this drain the battery. Reliance Jio is a 4G-only network which was rolled out in India only September last year.

OnePlus 5 was launched only recently and is already on sale in China, available in Midnight Black version with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage going for around $539 and Slate Gray coloured version with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage selling for $479. That may not be the only two colours the device may come with as a TENAA listing for the OnePlus flagship has appeared online showing the smartphone will be available in three different colour variants.

According to the listing, the colour variants include the Midnight black and Space gray which is already available.  However, the device will also come in a Mint gold colour variant which may be released sometime later.

The OnePlus 5 flash sale has seen the flagship selling out completely across all platforms despite assurance from OnePlus that there were enough units in stock await the start of sales. The company’s CEO even hinted that the company might mobilise more units from overseas market. But that isn’t likely going to include the Mint gold version. Barely a day after the OnePlus 5 was officially unveiled in the U.S, the flagship phone has made its official debut in OnePlus’ home country of China. The OnePlus 5 was launched today with,  of course, similar specs lineup but a far reduced price tag when compared to the price regime announced for U.S and Europe. Apart from the dual cameras, the 8GB RAM on board one of the versions makes the OnePlus 5 second to the Nubia Z17 as the only two Chinese model with 8GB RAM.

The OnePlus 5 is available in  6GB +64GB version and 8GB+128GB version. While the 6GB version starts at 2,999 Yuan ($438), the 8GB version will be sold in China for 3499 yuan($512). The device also come in just two colours whereby the 6GB version is available in Slate gray colour, while the 8GB version comes in Midnight Black colour only.

The OnePlus flagship is expected to go on sale in China from tomorrow June 22 by 10 AM. Reservations for the sale has long opened on Jingdong (JD. Com) with figures exceeding 500,000 days before the launch. The interesting thing about the reservation is that the 8GB version is stocked and as would be expected, it has the highest number of reservations.

Specs wise, the OP5 features a 2.45GHz Snapdragon 835, 6GB /8GB LPDDR4X RAM options, up to 128GB UFS 2.1 dual lane storage. The OnePlus 5 dual cameras are perhaps the most talked about feature on the flagship model which has started rolling out in some regions. OnePlus touts that the dual photos camera setup outputs clearer photos than ever before. We’ll take a quick look at the OnePlus 5 camera so we’ll be able to understand what makes the camera special.

OnePlus 5 Dual Camera Specs

OnePlus 5 features a dual camera setup that is composed of a 16MP primary camera and a 20MP Telephoto camera. The setup is quite similar to that of the iPhone 7 Plus and is quite different from the wide-angle sensor used in the LG G6 or the black and white sensor that is found on Huawei’s range of devices with dual cameras. The OnePlus 5 telephoto sensor is capable of providing 2X magnification without loss of image’s integrity and clarity.

In terms of its similarity with that of the iPhone 7 Plus, the OnePlus 5 camera has a dedicated Portrait mode similar to that of the Apple flagship. The Portrait mode uses the 2X zoom feature of the dual camera and then applies a background blur to the image which will, in turn, lead to the principal captured image being highlighted. The telephoto camera of the OP5 has a narrower aperture which allows less light getting in and the sensor uses smaller pixels which are likely more prone to digital noise. In that case, the camera is unlikely to be usable in low light conditions. However, the photo sample shared by OnePlus does not support this.

Apart from the features on the telephoto sensor, the main camera on the OnePlus 5 also sees several upgrades like a wider f/1.7 aperture as against a f/2.0 aperture on the OnePlus 3T. The wider aperture is expected to lead to clearer photos with less noise and less motion blur. The main sensor is a Sony IMX398 sensor and it uses a Fast AF (autofocus) technology which is a kind of phase-detection autofocus. The technology will enable the OP5 to focus 40% faster than the 3T with a lot more accuracy. The rear camera setup is lacking an optical image stabilization (OIS) feature and it is believed to have been dropped as a result of the size of the phone which is just 7.25 mm thin. The OIS is supposed to assist in low-light situations by keeping the frame steady, thus reducing motion blur. It is also commonly used to reduce shakiness in videos. Instead of OIS, the OnePlus camera comes with an electronic image stabilization which is expected to function as effectively as the OIS.

OnePlus 5 Camera Software: What’s New?

Another aspect that is just important in the production of clearer photos these days is the camera software features which includes multi-frame processing for less digital noise. How this works is that the camera compares multiple frames of the same scene to detect inconsistencies and then the software clears them up. The camera also has an improved HDR mode which is expected to take clearer photos of subjects situated behind bright light sources.

The OnePlus 5 camera feature also includes manual controls which would make more sense to professional photographers and allow them to set the camera for optimal performance. Settings like white balance, focus, shutter speed, and ISO can be controlled independently to achieve the look or effect wanted in a given situation. OnePlus is also adding a histogram on the OnePlus 5 camera software as well as a gyroscope-guided level to help you keep those horizons straight.

The OnePlus 5 is official. After countless rumors and leaks of one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2017, OnePlus has officially taken the wraps off the OnePlus 5. The company seems to have done a fine job once again with its new flagship, giving you the best specs in the market at an affordable price.

Before jumping on to the specs, let’s take a look at the price. The OnePlus 5 starts at $479 in the US and €499 in Europe. Compare that to the current Snapdragon 835 flagship smartphones in the market and you know you’ve got a great price. But this year, OnePlus 5 is all about the cameras. High-end specs can be found on almost all flagships in the market, but what will differentiate them is the camera setup at the back. OnePlus 5 Design

The OnePlus 5 has turned out to be a complete flagship, but the design could be one area where it might get some criticism. Its resemblance to the iPhone 7 Plus or even the OPPO R11 is surprising. But that doesn’t change the fact that the phone looks quite refined. The company has deviated from a traditional slate body to a curvier approach. The sides are curved, the back is curved and there’s focus on some intricate details.

It took over 100 variants in design to finalize this one, which now features a special horizon line that separates the body into two parts. To be honest, we can’t really say how good or bad the design is based on these pictures or judge how prominent is this horizon line that the company is boasting about. A quick hands on should help us understand the design better.

The phone is slim at 7.25mm and super light at 153 grams.

There are two color options available, slate gray and midnight black. From the images, I personally like the slate gray option.

Specs wise, OnePlus has lived up to its reputation. You get the latest hardware in the market with the OnePlus 5 — a 2.45GHz Snapdragon 835, 6GB /8GB LPDDR4X RAM options, up to 128GB UFS 2.1 dual lane storage and a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and sRGB and DCI-P3 color space support. The display is protected by a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

These are some high-end stuff, especially with 8GB RAM on board on the top-end variant. Only a handful of flagships can boast of such high-configuration like the ZenFone AR and the Nubia Z17.

But these specs don’t make the OnePlus 5 special. The brand has repeatedly proven its prowess in the hardware department, but this year, the real focus is on the dual cameras at the back.

OnePlus 5 Camera

In partnership with DXO Labs, OnePlus has developed a flagship-grade dual camera setup for the OnePlus 5. This consists of two cameras, a 16MP IMX398 sensor with f/1.7 aperture and another 20MP telephoto camera. The company adds that this is the highest resolution camera system on a smartphone today. The focus speed is up by 40% — thanks to the second camera, there’s 2X dual camera zoom for clearer long distance shots, improved HDR mode, and a Pro mode.

Naturally, with dual cameras, you get the special portrait mode as well. So, you can get some really good portrait shots with a shallow depth of field effect with your OnePlus 5.

But we are seeing these features on almost all of the flagships launched this year. It’s definitely impressive on paper, but only a real life comparison of the flagship would reveal the quality of the setup at the back. For that, we’ll have to wait for a few days more.

Up front, you get a 16MP sensor

Apart from the usual set of connectivity features, what’s worth noting is that the phone keeps the headphone jack. You can use either the USB Type-C port or the 3.5mm dedicated headphone jack to connect your earphones. The vibration motor on the phone is also improved, it’s now stronger and more silent than the previous generations.

Another big thing about the OnePlus 5 is that it will come with 34 LTE Band support, making it a truly global smartphone. So, you no longer have to worry about the support for your specific LTE band.

Dash Charge

Dash charge gets an upgrade on the OnePlus 5 with 5V 2A fast charging speeds. Half an hour should provide you up to a day’s usage, thanks to a decent 3300mAh battery.

OnePlus 5 Software

There are some cool new features in the software department like App Priority which decided which apps should load faster on your OnePlus 5. There’s a new reading mode as well wherein the ambient light sensor calibrates the display according to the surrounding lighting condition. Other features include expanded screenshot and lower input lag.

The OnePlus 5 flagship is expected to be launched in U.S. on June 20 (today), thereafter, the flagship model is expected to be unveiled in China on June 21. The device is also expected to become available in India on June 22. Ahead of its June 22 launch in India, what is likely the price tags of all the versions have leaked online. The document appeared on China’s Weibo showing the prices of both the 6GB RAM version and 8GB RAM version.

Accordingly, the OnePlus 5 version with 6GB RAM + 64GB storage will retail for Rs 32,999, while the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage version will sell for Rs 37,999 ($589). We are not entirely sure if the prices will remain that way because the US pricing is slightly lower, starting at $499 for the base variant and moving up to $599 for the top-end model.

The poster document also hints at the OnePlus 5 being an Amazon exclusive in India. This is not doubtful as other models have of late partnered with Amazon in India. From the poster, we can also gather that the OnePlus flagship will go on sale at 4.30 PM on the same day it will be launched. It is almost confirmed that the OnePlus 5 will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 835 processor, with 6GB / 8GB RAM versions. The device is also expected to pack a dual rear camera setup which has been the subject of several teasers lately.

OnePlus 5 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated flagship smartphones of 2017. Our wait ends tomorrow, i.e. June 20 when the company will officially launch the smartphone. Just two days later, the OnePlus 5 will be launched in India, which has become an important market for the brand. While OnePlus has revealed quite a lot of details regarding the OnePlus 5 in the past few weeks, we know almost everything about the upcoming flagships, thanks to the numerous leaks and rumors going around the internet. Some of the leaks did contradict at first, but as the release date neared, the leaks became more or less similar and before its official launch, we have a very good idea as to what to expect from the flagship.

OnePlus 5 Design

One of the areas, where you might be disappointed with the new OnePlus 5 is the design. But before we jump on to the design department, it’s worth noting that the OnePlus has skipped the naming, ‘OnePlus 4’ which should have been the logical successor to the OnePlus 3T. The company has confirmed that they are skipping the OP4 name in favor of OnePlus 5, but the exact reason for such a jump is not explained.  It is worth noting that ‘4’ is considered as an unlucky number in Chinese, so the brand probably decided to play it safe by going for a more luck friendly number, hence the name OnePlus 5.

Coming back to the design, you won’t be wrong to say the design resembles the iPhone 7 Plus. Heck, for that matter, the phone looks like the OPPO R11 that was unveiled just recently. To be honest, the design is not at all bad to look at, but the lack of originality is something that could bother some OnePlus fans. Being fair, it’s worth noting that the OnePlus 3T didn’t exactly have a revolutionary design, but it was well accepted by customers worldwide. We could see something similar with the OnePlus 5 as well, especially after hearing the comments from one of the OnePlus’ Product managers.

While you may have already seen renders from the company, note that OnePlus CEO claims that it will be one of the thinnest flagships in the market right now. OP3T is pretty thin at 7.5mm, so it’s safe to assume that the CEO is probably talking about a thickness below the 7mm mark.

Metal should be the ideal choice for the body, with the antenna lines hiding near the top and bottom edges. The front features a physical home button that looks bigger than the one on the OP3T. It should also feature the fingerprint scanner.

Overall, the design isn’t revolutionary, but if you can ignore the striking resemblance to other smartphones like the OPPO R11, you should be okay with the phone’s appearance. We haven’t got a confirmation about the headphone jack, but considering OnePlus CEO’s earlier comments, we would be really surprised to see the phone without the traditional 3.5mm jack.

OnePlus 5 Specs

The OnePlus 5 will come with a Snapdragon 835 chipset inside along with at least 6GB and 8GB RAM options. The storage variants are not yet revealed but expect at least 64GB and 128GB editions. No information about a MicroSD card slot, so we’ll have to wait for the official release for this. As for the battery, there are currently two rumors going around — one claiming a large 3600mAh battery inside and another one claiming a decent 3300mAh battery. Dash charging should be of the new generation, which is said to be 25% faster than its previous gen.

A very recent report about the phone’s display revealed that it will support DCI-P3 color space, ensuring amazing display quality. The panel should be Optic AMOLED as the OP3T since Carl Pei recently confirmed continued support for this display type for a foreseeable future.

OnePlus 5 camera

OnePlus will be joining the likes of iPhones 7 Plus, Xiaomi Mi 6, OPPO R11 and others by equipping its newest flagships with a dual camera setup at the back. It won’t likely be a wide angle + telephoto setup as the Mi 6, rather, it should be similar to the Huawei P10’s monochrome + RGB setup. The samples revealed by the company’s CEO look pretty good so far, including a series of images showing off the phone’s HDR prowess. There are actually quite a number of samples taken from the OP5 already revealed to us and you can check them out here. One of the Chinese bloggers with access to the phone even said that the camera is at par with the Samsung Galaxy S8. So, we are all excited to see the real camera performance of the device. While we don’t know the exact camera specs of the setup, expect something like a 23MP + 16MP rear setup and a 16MP front setup.

OnePlus 5 Pricing, Release & Availability

OnePlus will officially announce the OnePlus 5 on June 20, although a worldwide release date is not yet revealed. But in India, you can get the phone starting June 22, exclusively via Amazon.

Pricing is said to be higher than the previous generation OnePlus flagships, but it should be still within the affordable flagship segment. You can expect the OnePlus 5 to retail for anywhere near $500 (maybe even $520) but the more likely price tag should be $499.

Just one day remain for the OnePlus 5 to be officially announced and all of these details will be confirmed once the phone is launched tomorrow.

We have what is said to be the real render of the OnePlus 5 flagship coming right from a Brazilian blog, this time capturing the entire device. Recall that  Android Police leaked what could be termed the first real photo of the upcoming flagship last week but the photo only showed the top half of the device. But in this case, we are shown the entire device revealing both the front and rear views.

From the photo, the OnePlus 5’s display will likely be 5.5 inches in size and as earlier captured in leaks, the display will be a Full HD display. The full image also affords us the opportunity to see what the fingerprint sensor looks like. The sensor looks rather large despite it having an oval shape. Apart from the fingerprint sensor on this bottom half which we are seeing for the first time, all other features of the OP5 have already been seen in previously leaked photos. Almost all the specs have been confirmed such as a Snapdragon 835 chip, 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM on another version, a 3,300mAh battery with DASH charge technology and 20MP + 16MP rear dual cameras. The OnePlus flagship is said to come with a Bluetooth 5.0 which also featured on the Galaxy S8 and UFS 2.1 flash storage.

OnePlus CEO has again shared another sample photo captured by the company’s upcoming flagship device but this time around, the image is a black and white photo.  The CEO did not give any details which would tell us if the OnePlus 5 camera will come with a monochrome sensor or if the picture was captured using the monochrome mode of a regular camera. However, a leaked sample photo had earlier surfaced which suggested the presence of a monochrome sensor and this may just have confirmed that. The device is expected with a 16MP dual camera setup but the details of the sensors are still unofficial.

OnePlus is known to hype its products before launch and the company has managed to successfully get the attention of millions of fans worldwide for most of its recent launches. This year, OnePlus decided to show a good glimpse of the OnePlus 5 well before launch. This was actually a surprising move given that most companies try to guard the official design until the release date. But to be honest, the rumors about the OnePlus 5 were flying around like crazy in the past few days and it was probably a good move to put rest to those rumors, especially about the rear camera arrangement, by releasing an official teaser image.

But apparently it did more harm than good as seeing the dual camera arrangement similar to the iPhone 7 Plus, many fans were not happy and resorted to social media to express their disappointment over the final design. This could be seen on Twitter as well as China’s Weibo.

And when a company’s product is criticized even before it’s officially unveiled, a company like OnePlus won’t just sit back and relax. Recently, OnePlus’ Product Manager responded to a question on Zhihu (which is very similar to Quora) about the OnePlus 5′ final design. He defended the design of the phone with multiple points. Even OnePlus’ CEO Liu Zuohu forwarded the manager’s answer on his official Weibo page earlier today.

OnePlus’ manager states that one cannot judge the design and build of a smartphone just on the basis of its images. The flat images don’t do justice to the curves and handling of the phone or even the feel of the built quality. He mentioned OnePlus 3T and the criticism it received initially after images of the phone cropped up via TENAA before launch. Fans were quick to call OP3T’s design as ugly and boring. But once they saw and touched the real smartphone, they were impressed with the design.

He states that the images that you see of the OnePlus 5 right now don’t portray the quality of the phone or its workmanship. Only after you touch and play around with the phone can you differentiate the curves and the intricate design attributes from other similar looking phones.

As for the dual camera setup protruding from the overall design, he defended it by stating that it was a choice of whether to cut down the camera components (sacrificing quality) or increasing the thickness of the setup. The company decided to go with the former choice and hence the bulge. He added that initially, people called the bulge on the iPhone 7 Plus as ugly, but once they saw the phone, they started praising it.

End of the day, what he urges fans to do is play around with the OnePlus 5, feel its built quality and only then make a judgment about its design.

Well, he might be right about the built and quality of workmanship of the OnePlus 5. In fact, it may even feel a bit different than phones like OPPO R11 and the iPhone 7 Plus. But it doesn’t change the fact that the basic design (especially the way the dual cameras are arranged) is a copy of the iPhone 7 Plus.

Despite the initial impressions of the design based on the images available right now, it’s probably wise to wait for the phone to launch and see its design in reality before we start criticizing it heavily.

The OnePlus 5 details keep rolling in non-stop. Earlier today it appeared on GeekBench, confirming the RAM. Now, it has surfaced on GFXBench, where more details have been revealed.

The rear cameras are the most anticipated feature of the OnePlus 5. OnePlus has joined the dual camera train and the GFXBench listing gives us half of the details. We know the benchmarking site only detects one of the dual cameras, so the other sensor is still unknown.

The listing reveals the OnePlus 5 will come with a 16MP primary rear camera just like the OnePlus 3T. It will have support for 4K recording, HDR and face detection. The front camera doesn’t change too as its still a 16MP sensor.

The Geekbench listing also reveals the display size and resolution. Even though OnePlus already hinted that the phone has a smaller form-factor compared to the OnePlus 3T, it is still a 5.5-inch display…….and with a 1080p resolution. Sorry guys, no 2K display this year.

The OP5 will come with 128GB of storage, 8GB RAM and NFC. The Snapdragon 835 processor is clocked at 2.4GHz and there is an Adreno 540 GPU on board.

OnePlus CEO Liu Zuotu has again posted another evidence that projects his company’s upcoming flagship model. This time around, the CEO shared a single shot which he claimed in the night shot of the OnePlus 5 camera. Evidently, the photo was indeed captured in the night and the level of clarity is just superb for a smartphone camera’s shot.

The OnePlus 5 camera has been the subject of numerous teasers which points at a powerful setup. Even recently, the company selected 10 reviewers that would test the camera before the device is launched. We have only been able to spot just one user on Weibo who uses the OnePlus 5 and he claimed in a recent post that the camera is indeed powerful, drawing a comparison with that of the Galaxy S8.

The OnePlus 5 camera is expected to be dual sensors, though. That has been confirmed severally, both in leaked renders including the leaked box casing for the device which has it written on the body. Also, recently spotted camera samples that were reportedly captured by the OnePlus 5 points at a dual camera feature. One of the images came out as a black and white shot which indicates that OnePlus 5 may come with dual cameras and one of its lenses will be able to capture images in monochrome. The presence of a monochrome sensor in a dual rear camera module can assist in detecting lighting conditions in a better way. Hence, it will be able to shoot accurate photos just as we can see on this leaked night photo. The night sky maintains its darkness and yet the camera was still able to pick the tiny stars and capture the building and shadows with an impressively high level of contrast and clarity. OnePlus is intensifying its publicity campaign for the OnePlus 5 which fuels speculations that the OnePlus 5 would be launching soon. Already, a leaked internal mail and poster point to a launch on June 15 but that may just be a fluke but a launch is imminent.

One key source of details about the OnePlus 5 has been OnePlus CEO Liu Zuotu who had always taken to Weibo to share a couple of details of his company’s upcoming flagship device. The CEO isn’t relenting as he has again revealed some more details of the OP5.The CEO address rumors of a shortage of Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 835 chip which the OP5 is said to feature, allaying fears that there wouldn’t be enough in stock before its launch.

More interesting is Zuotu’s disclosure that the flagship OP5 would come with a thin body which he touts would make the device the thinnest flagship phone. OnePlus finally put paid to debate on a OnePlus 4 or OnePlus 5 moniker when it released a teaser which confirms we should be expecting an OP5 and that the device may likely launch this summer. Ahead of the launch of the OnePlus 5, we are again gifted with a fresh set of renders. This set looks so real that you’d think the OP5 has been launched.

The front view isn’t very much different from the OnePlus 3T, with the device still shown to have a physical home button. However, the side of the display seems to be near bezel-less. At the rear, there is a vertically aligned dual camera with a LED flash sitting under the cameras. There isn’t a fingerprint sensor at the rear, so the button is likely embedded under the home button. The overall design is sleek and beautiful despite looking minimalistic. But there is a new twist, as the renders come in red, blue and brown colours which may join the black and soft gold traditional colors.

Specs wise, the OnePlus 5 is tipped to come with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor and the renders on display suggest a powerful 8GB RAM is among the specs sheet just as rumoured. OnePlus today released a teaser image for the OnePlus 5. Posted on Weibo, the image has the word “Hello 5” written on it and is accompanied by the text “Hey Summer! Give me five!”. Both confirm the name and release date respectively.

Summer is expected to begin on Wednesday, June 21 in the Northern Hemisphere, and end in September. Last year, the OnePlus 3 launched in June, so we expect the OnePlus 5 will follow the same calendar.

The device is expected to feature dual rear cameras but we have also seen sketches showing that the front will also sport dual cameras. While dual front and rear cameras are no longer new features for a phone, it is the RAM we are most concerned about. The rumor flying around says that the OnePlus 5 will have 8GB of RAM and it seems we just might have our first confirmation.

Analyst, Pan Jiutang’s response to the teaser image hints at the OnePlus 5 having 8GB RAM. A rough translation of his response says “last year LeEco was supposed to launch the world’s first 8GB RAM phone (but they didn’t), the time seems to be now”. Since he’s directly replying to the OnePlus 5 post, we believe he’s dropping a hint and not just speculating.

The LeEco phone rumored to launch with 8GB of RAM was the Le Pro 3. It was later released with 6GB of RAM.

The ASUS Zenfone AR is actually the first smartphone in the world to have 8GB of RAM, however it was only announced back at CES 2017. The release date is scheduled for Q2 2017. If the OnePlus 5 hits market shelves before it, then technically it will be the first 8GB RAM phone you can buy.

The OnePlus 5 has been confirmed to be the next flagship phone from OnePlus. The phone is scheduled for a summer release and one of the expected features is dual rear cameras. Design sketches of the phone released online shows we might be getting more than that.

We have not been able to confirm the authenticity of the images, so you shouldn’t swallow this hook, line, and sinker. The overall design shows the phone to have a more curved design compared to the OnePlus 3T. However, that is the least interesting part of the design.

The OnePlus 5 has dual rear cameras and…..dual front cameras. Yes, we might be getting four cameras in all. The rear cameras are stacked vertically with a dual LED flash sitting below. All three share a single housing. On the other hand, the dual front cameras are on the left side of the earpiece. The sketch doesn’t show the pixel count of the sensors.

The sketch also shows the phone will have a two piece back just like the Pixel and Pixel XL. The top part that extends just a little bit below the camera is stated to be made of ceramic with a 0.5mm thickness. There is also an alert slider on the left and probably the volume rocker below it.

The remaining part of the back is most likely metal and has an antenna line running across it.

The bottom of the phone shows the OnePlus 5 still won’t have stereo speakers since the speaker grille is on one side only. There is a USB Type-C port in the middle and a 3.5 mm audio jack on the left.

We are impressed with this new design and will really love to see the OnePlus 5 turn out like this. The two piece back already has us wondering the color combinations the phone will have. We presume the ceramic will be limited to either black or white while the metal part will have more color options.

OnePlus continues to get jiggy with its upcoming flagship smartphone which is believed to go by the moniker OnePlus 5. The company has on several occasions released teasers that leave no doubt in our minds that a flagship is coming. OnePlus seems to have used the Star Wars day which is May 4 to share what we suspect is the image of the OnePlus 5.

The photo isn’t distinct enough for us to get a full glimpse of what exactly the phone looks like. But from what we can grab, the device in question will likely have a slim build. The camera bump at the back is indicative of a single rear camera. The phone’s capacitive buttons are also noticeable at the sides. There is really nothing to show this isn’t likely the OnePlus 3T.

While it is almost certain that OnePlus is working on a next-generation smartphone which will be the OP5, we’ll have to wait a while to get the actual render of the device. As for the specification, the OP5 is rumoured as coming with a Snapdragon 835 processor as well as 6GB RAM. There are talks of an 8GB RAM version as well. The device is expected with a 5.5-inch display which would either have a 1080p or 2K resolution and also a 16MP dual rear camera. The OnePlus 5 is expected to launch anytime soon, with talks of a possible launch sometime between June and August.

It is no news that OnePlus is working on the OnePlus 5 already. The Chinese manufacturer is doing a good job keeping details of the phone closely guarded. But we are itching to know more about this upcoming device. While we wait for more details to surface, we have put together a list of the features the OnePlus 5 needs to have to be 2017’s flagship killer.

Display/Design

I am lumping this together because the display plays an important role in the overall design of the phone. OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, recently teased an image of a phone with a dual-curved display. Whether this is just to mislead the public or to hint at the OnePlus 5 coming with a curved screen is still unconfirmed. There is a chance the display might be bigger than the traditional 5.5-inches OnePlus has been using since their first phone launched. However, the phone itself need not be bigger. The only way to achieve that will be to trim the bezels.

We also hope OnePlus adds some new colors to the mix. A red variant and an electric blue variant are the favorites. Black should be a default color now and not a special edition. So grey, black, gold, red and blue.

Dual Cameras

Dual Cameras have been trending since 2016 and some are of the opinion that OnePlus needs to join the train. What really matters is how OnePlus takes advantage of the hardware. The performance must be better than what a single camera offers and the software must be optimized to make best use of the cameras. How the sensors are setup is left to OnePlus. The Huawei P10 is the king when it comes to the Monochrome + RGB format while the iPhone 7 Plus leads for the telephoto + wide angle lens configuration. Whichever one the OnePlus 5 comes with has to match either one of the two.

Water Resistance

Most flagships this year will have one form of water resistance. This may definitely drive up the price of the phone but its the sacrifice we have to make to survive that accidental drop in the sink or a spill. OnePlus may want to keep it at being just spill resistant like the Xiaomi Mi 6 just to keep the price less than $500.

3.5mm Audio Jack

Whatever excuse anyone might come up with to defend the removal of the audio jack on a phone won’t be accepted by the majority of consumers. But manufacturers keep trying to shove phones lacking the audio output port down our throat. This is one ship we never want to see OnePlus sail on and we hope they don’t. Audio Jack is bae, and the OnePlus 5 will definitely be bae if it keeps the audio jack.

MicroSD Card Slot

None of the five devices released by OnePlus so far has a microSD card slot. It is time OnePlus embraced support for expandable storage. 64GB or 128GB should be the memory variants for the OnePlus 5 but users should have the option to expand the memory at will. Maximum capacity supported can be capped at 2TB.

Snapdragon 835 Processor

I shouldn’t even be writing this because what else other than the Snapdragon 835 processor should power the OnePlus 5?

Smaller Variant Called OnePlus 5X

Last but not the least. This is just a wish but we hope OnePlus makes a smaller version of the phone. Not every one enjoys using a phone with a big display, that’s why manufacturers like Apple and Samsung usually release their flagships with two display sizes.

The phone will sport the same processor but just have a smaller display, probably a smaller RAM (4GB), and a sufficient battery (between 3000mAh to 3500mAh.  We even thought of a name already. The OnePlus 5X. It is a perfect blend of the new flagship and the OnePlus X.

The flagship will also sport a 5.5-inch display, 3,000mAh battery, 23MP rear camera with OIS, and others.
