Now, OnePlus has announced that users who brought a compatible 5G OnePlus smartphone since 2020 can experience the latest generation cellular network provided by Airtel and Jio. The brand added that it has worked with telecom operators to provide support and unlock 5G on its devices. It’s worth noting that Vodafone Idea hasn’t rolled out its 5G network, hence it is not yet available on OnePlus phones.

There are a host of 5G phones from OnePlus as well as under the Nord branding that have been launched since 2020. These include the flagship OnePlus 10 Pro, 10T, 10R, OnePlus 9 Pro, 9, 9 RT, 9R, OnePlus 8 Pro, 8T, and 8. Under the Nord lineup, the devices include OnePlus Nord, Nord 2T, Nord CE, Nord 2, Nord CE2, and Nord CE 2 Lite.

As per Counterpoint Research’s smartphone shipments tracker in the third quarter of 2022, OnePlus led the 5G smartphone market in the affordable premium segment (Rs 35,000 – Rs 40,000) as well as in the Rs 20,000 – Rs 30,000 price bracket.

In other news, OnePlus is gearing up to launch the OnePlus 11 and Buds Pro 2 in China on January 4th. Both devices are also set to debut globally on February 7th.

In a surprise twist, OnePlus Founder/CEO Liu Zuohu has hinted that the company will launch a dual-mode 5G phone before the end of this year. The CEO stated this in an interview where he also gave reasons why the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G wasn’t launched in China, stating that it is exclusively for the overseas market. Thus, the upcoming dual-mode 5G phone will be launched in China and may be exclusively for the Chinese market.

Liu Zuohu didn’t reveal an exact date when the device will be launched or the moniker it adopts. But he stated that it will be unveiled in Q4 2019. One thing is sure, though, the device will be a premium phone model as the CEO also added that the 5G era will not rely on low-end 5G mobile phones to grab market sales.

EDITOR’S PICK: Alleged Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 leaks with a Waterfall display

The most outstanding part of the disclosure is that the device will support the non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) modes for 5G. Non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) are two 5G tracks that communication service providers can opt for when transitioning from 4G to the next-generation mobile technology. The first 5G networks to roll out are NSA deployments that focus on enhanced mobile broadband to provide higher data-bandwidth and reliable connectivity. NSA mode entails 5G networks will be aided by existing 4G infrastructure. So service providers who want to be first to offer 5G speeds will start with NSA and, once 5G coverage is established, implement standalone 5G.

Further, the OnePlus is said to have hinted that the 5G phone will likely use the Qualcomm SM7250 processor which isn’t a flagship SoC. The processor is a mid-range chipset but comes with a 5G modem.

We may need to see more details to get an idea of what the 5G phone has onboard in terms of hardware. But we expect the device to come with cheaper pricing than the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. We’ll keep you updated when more details emerge.

So, the company did show us something at the event — OnePlus’ first 5G smartphone showcased at the Qualcomm booth. Unfortunately, the phone was enclosed in a protective glass box, and its design was hidden as well. Basically, all we can take from this booth is that a 5G OnePlus smartphone exists.

The company did allow attendees to play Ace Combat 7 on the phone (via Xbox Wireless controller). So, you couldn’t actually take out the phone for the gameplay. However, what’s interesting is that the phone didn’t have the complete game installed. Instead, players were streaming the game from the cloud via 5G. The phone was also displaying a live stream of shoutouts from fans. You can send your personal message from their ‘Hello to 5G’ page here.

We also know that this prototype OnePlus 5G phone has Snapdragon 855 inside with Qualcomm’s X50 5G modem. Previously, OnePlus CEO had also mentioned that there would be a 4G LTE version of the model for the US markets. He also confirmed that the 5G phone won’t initially launch in the US. The first release would be in Europe and the UK with Elisa and EE as telecom partners.

What’s interesting is that OnePlus reportedly has a closed-door ‘Reimagine the Future’ event at MWC 2019 on February 26. Invitees could get a glimpse of this 5G phone, most likely to be called as the OnePlus 7 at launch. Nothing’s concrete about the event, but, we could get more details soon.

It also hints that it will be making a 5G-related announcement tomorrow. It is speculated that the Chinese manufacturer will be showcasing a 5G prototype through a private event at MWC 2019. Fresh information that has surfaced on a U.K. based site has claimed that the Chinese manufacturer will be using the MWC 2019 platform to unleash a prototype of the OnePlus 7 tomorrow. It has also stated that the smartphone will be sporting a radical design.

According to the report, the upcoming OnePlus 5G will be sporting a larger design. However, the name of the device is currently under the wraps. Leaked photos of the phone that surfaced in the previous week have suggested that it will be featuring a notch-less display. Like the OPPO Find X phone, it may sport a slider design.

The OnePlus 6T comes with a waterdrop notch screen. Hence, it is very likely that the company may kill the notch on its next flagship phone. The Snapdragon 855 mobile platform will be present under the hood of the device. The powerful chip is expected to bring support for topnotch gaming experience on the device.

Even though the rumored OnePlus 7 will be announced tomorrow, the handset may hit the market in the second or third quarter of the year. Initially, it may not debut in the U.S. and European regions could be the first markets to receive it. In the U.K, the handset will be exclusively available through EE network. The other details of the phone are currently under the wraps. Also, there is no information available on the price tag of the smartphone. The OnePlus 6T is selling with a price tag of $549 in the U.S. The 5G-enabled OnePlus phone is expected to carry an expensive price tag.

Samsung has already announced the Galaxy S10 5G edition which will be made available within a few months. On the other hand, Huawei 5G device powered with 5000 Balong modem will debut in next few hours at MWC 2019 in Barcelona. Surprisingly, OnePlus has also posted some details about its 5G device.

As per details, OnePlus will unveil its 5G device in the second quarter this year. If everything goes as said, then the Chinese company will be among the first batch of manufacturers who would launch the 5G devices. Although, OnePlus has not detailed anything about the device yet but will be up for a showcase at MWC 2019.

Concerning its availability, then OnePlus won’t make it to the US as like of other manufacturers. Instead, they will debut the new 5G device in the United Kingdom via EE carrier. Further, the 5G compatible device will move to Finland with Elisa network carrier by Q2, 2019.

In an Interview to our sources, OnePlus Founder Pete Lau said that “It’s still very early days for 5G, and we want to take the opportunity to raise more awareness particularly within the OnePlus community, but not just limited to the OnePlus community, in what we can look forward to with 5G.”

OnePlus 5G device will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Chipset incorporating X50 5G Modem. The specially designed modem is capable of providing download speeds of upto 4.5 Gbps. Even though, OnePlus shared an image of a prototype device encased within a shell.

In the coming days, OnePlus will showcase the gaming capabilities of its 5G device. Particularly, the company is set to highlight the device’s gaming experience with “Ace Combat 7” game. It would be interesting to see how the company flaunts the device’s gaming hardware when the computing is done at the cloud level rather than on the device.

Overall, it’s good to see that different manufacturers are working onto bringing 5G devices by the end of this year. Many other Chinese manufacturers like Oppo, Vivo, Huawei are already working to build 5G infrastructure. Even though, US President also seemed curious about the Chinese’s involvement in building 5G technology via a couple of tweets yesterday.

Initially, OnePlus is skipping the US market but has plans to launch 5G devices later in time once technology gets improved. While talking, Pete Lau marked, “The US is an important market, so a longterm 5G focus is critically important.”

OnePlus has not named the new 5G device, but will soon get a one. Additionally, the Chinese company officially launched OnePlus 6T in the US via T-Mobile. Its unlocked version is also available from AT&T and Verizon. Currently, the OnePlus is retailing at the price of $549. In a small period, the Chinese firm has managed to attain the fifth spot in the list of top 5 brands of phones sold above $500.

As of now, we have to wait some time for OnePlus 5G device to official touch on the US shores.

Just as the recent OnePlus phones have been launched with design inspired from R-series smartphones from OPPO, there is a possibility that the upcoming OnePlus 7 may look like the OPPO R19 arriving in the first quarter of 2019. What about the first 5G smartphone from OnePlus? Well, nothing much is known about its specs and design. It is speculated that the company may introduce it as a new series. Well known tipster has shared a leaked photo that was shot secretly during an internal meeting at OnePlus. The leaked photo reveals that the company is working on a mysterious OnePlus smartphone with a very unique design.

In the leaked image, the mysterious red colored OnePlus smartphone can be not only seen on the projector screen, but also a white variant of the same device can be seen in the hands of an employee. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau can be seen explaining some features of the mysterious device which features a round-shaped module instead of the vertical dual camera setup on the OnePlus 6T.

Rumors have it that the OPPO R19 may feature an in-screen hole for the frontal camera and a vertical dual/triple camera setup on the rear. Probably, the OnePlus 7 may sport the same design. Since the OnePlus 5G is expected to debut as a new series, it could be the very same handset that has surfaced in the leaked image.

The tipster has added that the unidentified OnePlus device is still in the development stages. Hence, there is a possibility that the final product may sport an entirely different design.

Recent reports have revealed that the OnePlus 5G will be unleashed before the end of May 2019. It will be featuring the Snapdragon 855 chipset that tags along X50 LTE modem for 5G connectivity. As far as pricing is concerned, it will be costing around $200 to $300 more than the OnePlus 6T. Europe will be the first market to receive it through the UK carrier EE. it will be also coming to the U.S. through carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon. The handset is expected to be showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 tech expo in Barcelona, Spain in February next year.

Recent reports have suggested that the 5G phone from OnePlus will go official in early 2019. In a recent interview with CNET, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau revealed some information on the upcoming OnePlus 5G phone. He also confirmed that the company will be releasing its first 5G smartphone before the end of May 2019.

In the previous week, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei had said in an interview to the The Verge that the reason why OnePlus is launching a 5G phone in early 2019 is that it wants its engineer to work on the nuances of 5G that will help in releasing 5G smartphones in future. Even Lau is not expecting huge sales from its first 5G phone since the 5G technology will be in early stages in the coming year. However, the market for 5G phones is expected to grow significantly in the coming year.

The company is planning to launch its first 5G smartphone before the end of May 2019. According to Lau, by becoming one of the first companies to launch a 5G phone, OnePlus can develop a premium 5G smartphone with best user experience.

As far as pricing of the phone is concerned, the upcoming OnePlus 5G smartphone may cost $200 to $300 more than the OnePlus 6T since it will include costlier 5G components. Lau has confirmed that the first OnePlus 5G phone won’t be called OnePlus 7. It will end up as a product from a new lineup. The smartphone will be fueled by Snapdragon 855 chipset which includes the necessary X50 LTE modem for 5G connectivity.

Europe will be the first market to receive the first 5G smartphone from the company. The Chinese firm has teamed up with U.K carrier EE for its upcoming 5G phone. Later on, the device will be made available in other regions of the world. In the U.S., the OnePlus 5G smartphone is expected to be available through AT&T and Verizon. Rumors have it that OnePlus could be present at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) tech expo in February 2019 to showcase its first 5G phone to the world.
