Recently, there were speculations that OnePlus’ partnership with McLaren might be at its endpoint as the premium smartphone manufacturer was noticed to have been delisted as a 2020 F1 partner on the McLaren website. Android Authority has now received an official confirmation from the British sports car manufacturer that it is no longer in partnership with OnePlus.

Android Authority quotes a McLaren spokesperson to have hinted in an email statement that both company’s partnership came to its scheduled conclusion recently. This clearly indicates that there wasn’t any acrimony but the partnership has run its full course.

OnePlus announced its partnership with McLaren in November 2018. The first product released after both innovative firms signed the dotted lines was the OnePus 6T McLaren Edition. Last year, OnePlus also launch McLaren edition for the OnePlus 7T Pro. The company even announced an OP7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition sold exclusively on T-Mobile.

The McLaren special editions released by OnePlus were known for their souped-up specs and exclusive designs. While fans were expecting a McLaren edition for the OnePlus 8 series, that may never happen except both companies enter into a fresh partnership.

The name, Warp Charge is formed from a combination of its power rating (30 Watts) and the word “Warp” which is used to describe an insanely fast speed in sci-fi space movies. Warp Charge is OnePlus’s fastest charging-technology so far as it can provide up to a day’s power by charging for just 20 minutes.

Like Fast Charge, the phone (OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition) doesn’t heat up when you charge the phone using Warp Charge. This is because a large part of the power management that heats up is transferred to the wall adapter itself instead of the phone. Also, charging while gaming is equally fast too. Now, the company has today launched the smartphone in India for a price of Rs. 50,999, which roughly converts to $709. The phone will be available for purchase exclusively through Amazon from tomorrow, i.e. 13th December.

The highlight of the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition is that the phone comes with 10GB of RAM and the company’s new fast charging method 30W Warp Charge. The company promises that the new technology charges the phone up to 50 percent in just 20 minutes. The company says that it has used the new Integrated Circuits in both the charger and the phone. Further, OnePlus has finely tuned power management software without generating excessive heat.

As for the design, the phone comes with Papaya Orange accent finish that races around the bottom edge of the device before fading into the black color. At the fringes of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Technology Summit in Maui last week, PCMag caught up with OnePlus CEO Pete Lau who granted the tech blog an interview. The chat which was done using an interpreter centred on the company’s plans going forward.

Pete Lau, during the chat, reeled out some interesting details about the company’s latest flagship OnePlus 6T. He also delved into the upcoming 5G phone, and other new OnePlus devices. Lau revealed that its latest flagship OnePlus 6T which was launched in the US in partnership with TMobile has had impressive sales which at present is 249% more than the OnePlus 6 sales in the US. The interview was apparently to promote the OnePlus 6T Mclaren edition which is now official with a whopping 10GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a 30W charger that gives a day’s firepower in just 20 minutes. Amazing! The device also comes with a $699 price tag as against $549 for the OP6T.

The CEO also spoke on the removal of the 3.5mm audio jack on the OP6T which he admitted was a difficult decision to take. He also hinted that the audio jack was removed to make way for a bigger battery. The OP6T battery is bigger than that of its predecessor. Here comes the cheering news for those who would love to see OnePlus release a small display smartphone. Pete Lau also disclosed that he would love to make a smaller phone, but that battery capacity is the number one reason why the company is yet to do that. Pretty much every smartphone the company’s launched since the OnePlus 5 has been roughly the same size, with some slightly larger dimensions here and there. Lau admits, “I see a lot of demand for [smaller phones]. But looking at the industry, the technology of batteries hasn’t changed too much over all these years. If we can solve the battery problem, we would definitely make a smaller one. No doubt, the company isn’t going to be releasing a smaller phone anytime soon.

5G technology was yet another interesting topic that was discussed during the interview. According to Lau, the OnePlus 5G phone will be based on sub-6GHz frequency bands, which Lau says are easier to build. This will likely keep users in the US locked on T-Mobile which is the only carrier that uses the sub-6 wave. Lau stated, “The whole industry knows that it’s easier to build for sub-6 than for millimeter wave”. Both Verizon’s and AT&T’s 5G networks will have mmWave builds. However, he equally stated that by next year the company will find a solution for millimeter wave. Other aspects that were also discussed include beefing up security for its users’ data. He also threw up the possibility of having new camera capabilities on its next-gen model. He also restated that OnePlus will be releasing a smart TV but “not until it is ready”.

The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition doesn’t launch until December 11 but a new leak has revealed what the phone looks like as well as an exciting new feature. The leak is a set of marketing materials including official renders of the phone and was posted on Twitter by @IshanAgarwal24.

With respect to design, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition doesn’t look any different from the regular OnePlus 6T. You get the same display with a water-drop notch and a bit of bezel at the bottom. Flip it and then you know this is indeed a custom edition.

The back is covered in glass but the inside of the glass appears to have a design that makes it appear as if it is made of kevlar. There is also an orange paint job that begins at the bottom but fades off when it gets to the sides.

The arrangement of the dual rear cameras hasn’t changed so also is the position of the OnePlus logo but there is now a McLaren logo at the bottom of the phone. The phone still doesn’t have an audio jack

OnePlus is calling it Warp Charge 30 and it will provide a day’s power in 20 minutes – 10 minutes faster than Dash Charge. The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition will share the same design, save for the color, with the regular OnePlus 6T. However, its internals is rumored to be a bit different. It is expected to have 10GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It will also cost more and most likely come with McLaren branded accessories such as a protective case.

OnePlus and McLaren both took to their respective social media accounts to announce their new partnership and also to reveal there would be a co-hosted event on December 11. The URL of the page where OnePlus announces the partnership and the upcoming event contains “mclaren-6T”, so we are pretty sure the event is for the launch of the Oneplus 6T McLaren Edition.

The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition will have a different color, probably orange just like McLaren’s official color. It should also have the McLaren logo. With respect to specs, OnePlus may decide to add extra RAM and storage and bundle it with McLaren branded accessories.
