It is rare to see this sort of swiftness in the Android phone sector. Even Google releases its updates for the Pixels on the first Monday of each month, before other brands follow. In most cases, it takes several weeks before the security patch for that month is pushed by the OEMs. But that is not the case with OnePlus as it may have just become the first OEM to push the August security patch to its smartphones.

The update is an OTA update (over-the-air) and it ushers in OxygenOS 9.5.11 version. Apart from the important security fixes, it also packs optimizations for Adaptive Brightness, the “sensitiveness of the screen touch while gaming”, as well as accidental touches in the notification bar while in a call (this last one is desperately needed for older OnePlus models as well). Google’s suite of mobile services has been updated to the version from this June, and the “general bug fixes and improvements” also make an appearance.

The rollout will be in batches as only a handful of users have received the update. We expect the rollout to be expanded to more users in the coming days but that is if the version is bug-free.

According to a post by Twitter tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the OnePlus 7 Pro is very popular in China with consumers placing pre-orders on more than one million units of the phone. The tipster hinted that the pre-orders were far higher than initial stocking. He also hinted that some Samsung users were planning to sell their Galaxy S10 in order to pick up the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Oneplus 7 Pro

While it is common practice to see buyers trade their old phone for a new release, swapping the Galaxy S10 for the OnePlus 6 Pro is quite surprising. The OnePlus 7 Pro is no doubt a solid phone but we doubt if it surpasses the Galaxy S10 is any aspect apart from the 90Hz refresh rate display and perhaps, the pop-up selfie camera. The Galaxy S10 offers IP68 water and dustproof build and that is absent on the OP7 Pro, even though the phone seems to have some waterproofing. Moreso, the Galaxy S10 offers wireless charging and even the OneUI onboard looks more appealing to hardcore fans of Sammy than OnePlus’ Oxygen or Hydrogen OS.

Read Also: OnePlus 7 Pro flagship smartphone aces in durability tests

However, some may find the OnePlus 7 Pro design more appealing due to the pop-up selfie shooter. The device isn’t so cheap this time around but it costs less than the Galaxy S10. Both models are powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 855 chipset. So, we don’t see this action purportedly happening in China become a trend. OnePlus models were hitherto cheaper alternatives to more expensive Samsung, Apple and Huawei flagships. That isn’t reflected in the OP7 Pro pricing.

As a result of the protective casing, we are unable to get the full view of the device. However, the size of the camera cutout seems to confirm that the device will have more than two sensors at the rear. Earlier leaks point to a triple camera setup at the rear for the OP7 Pro. The device is also said to pack a pop-up selfie shooter and OnLeaks has even provided us with renders of the device based on leaked details.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is scheduled to launch on May 16 and will come alongside the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. As for the specs, the OnePlus 7 Pro will feature a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display that is curved towards the left and right edges. It will support quad HD+ resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels and will have a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The device will pack a 4,000mAh battery with 30W Warp Charge, and three rear cameras. The OnePlus 7 Pro will be available in Mirror Grey, Almond, and Nebula Blue colours.

Quite a number of details of the device have appeared online and not too long ago, OnePlus’ CEO Pete Lau had hinted that 5000 yuan ($749) would be just enough to grab the OnePlus 7 Pro. The rumoured prices of the OnePlus 7 Pro variants have leaked and they are from a trusted source.

Emerging tipster Ishan Agarwal has leaked the prices of the variants that will be available in Europe. Going by the leak, the OnePlus 7 Pro will be available in 6GB RAM+128GB storage, 8GB RAM+256GB storage and 12GB RAM+256GB storage. The tipster apparent has got wind of just the 8GB RAM and 12GB RAM variants. While the 8GB+256GB variants will cost €749/$749, the 12GB+256GB variant will go for €819/$819. From this, we can gather the 6GB RAM variant will cost less but won’t be anywhere near the OnePlus 6T price which started at €549 in Europe.
