OnePlus will be launching the OnePlus 8T flagship phone in India on Oct. 14. On the next day, it will go official in China. Rumors have claimed that the company will not be launching the OnePlus 8T Pro smartphone this year. Today, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took to Weibo to confirm that there will not be a Pro model this year.

The Weibo post further states that those who like the Pro-level products could purchase the OnePlus 8T Pro. He seems to be saying that since there is no room for an upgrade, the company decided on skipping the OnePlus 8T Pro model this year.

Lau said apart from the OnePlus 8T, the company also has a surprise worth waiting for. The following image that was released by the brand had carried some clues on the upcoming products that are likely to get announced at the OnePlus 8T launch event.

OnePlus fans have speculated that the company could be teasing products like USB-C to USB-C cable, OnePlus Bullets Wireless 3, OnePlus Buds Z, a laptop, and some sort of a gaming console. These are just assumptions, and since the launch is nearly two weeks away, It is advisable to wait for further reports to know the identity of the teased products.

OnePlus 8T specifications (Rumored)

The OnePlus 8T has a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a hole-punch design that offers Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The Snapdragon 865 mobile platform fuels the device and it has a 4,500mAh battery with Warp Charge 65 support. The device is equipped with a front-facing camera of 16-megapixel. The backside of the phone is fitted with a 48-megapixel + 16-megapixel (ultrawide) + 5-megapixel (macro) + 2-megapixel (monochrome) quad-camera setup. The phone comes preinstalled with OxygenOS 11 based Android 11 OS. It is expected to arrive in Aquamarine Green and Lunar Silver colors.

OnePlus is gearing up for the launch of its new OnePlus 8T series on 14th October 2020. A per a series of new teaser videos, the company emphasized on the upcoming smartphone’s speed and uncompromising nature along with the catchphrase “Ultra Stops at Nothing.”

At the moment, it is currently unclear what the ‘Ultra’ terminology stands for. However, the leading speculations have been that the company might not be launching an OnePlus 8T Pro, and would go for an Ultra variant instead for its high end offering. The short teaser video in question contained various action sequences, with the ‘Ultra’ slogan arriving at the 19 second mark.

Furthermore, OnePlus also released another shorted teaser trailer of the upcoming series, which featured the company’s brand ambassador, Robert Downey Jr. who talks about moving faster, which is likely regarding the 120Hz high refresh rate panel on the OnePlus 8T. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to go on or gather from either of these teaser videos although rumors and reports have hinted at the OnePlus 8T’s specifications.

The device is expected to feature a 6.55 inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is said to sport a 32 megapixel punch hole selfie shooter and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. For memory, we can expect 8 to 12GB of RAM and up to at least 256GB of internal storage. These are just speculations so take it with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more updates that should arrive soon.

Starting with the OnePlus 3 series and up until 2018, OnePlus technically released only two phones in a year – the main flagship in the first half and a T-variant with upgraded features in the second half of the year. Last year, OnePlus decided to announce Pro variants too. It did the same this year with the OnePlus 8 series, but new info says OnePlus will be dropping the tradition for the OnePlus 8T. In a nutshell, there won’t be a OnePlus 8T Pro.

The source of the info is the leaker Max J (@MaxJmb) and according to him, there is no “Kebab2”. If you are confused as to what that means, we will explain. Kebab is the codename for the OnePlus 8T. If there is another variant of a phone, OnePlus usually adds another b to the codename. For example, in the case of the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro, the two devices went by the codenames “hotdog” and “hotdogb” respectively.

In the case of the OnePlus 8T series, that means the OnePlus 8T Pro should have the codename “kebabb”. However, the leaker has gone with “kebab2” to make it less confusing. Though he does confirm that what he means is that there isn’t going to be a OnePlus 8T Pro in a reply which we have added below.

While some may be disappointed at the lack of a Pro variant, I am of the opinion it is a good decision.

OnePlus has made significant changes to its product lineup. It has a new line of mid-range smartphones which is expected to add at least three new models before the end of the year. Add those to the already released OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro, and OnePlus Nord, and the upcoming OnePlus 8T, you get a total of seven devices.

That is a lot of phones for OnePlus which means a lot of the company’s resources will be spread across these devices and those from previous years that are still getting support. The bottom line is that there is no need for two flagships anymore.

If OnePlus keeps churning out phones, I believe it will find it difficult to maintain all of them and we may see software issues not get resolved as quickly as before. We have already even seen this playing out with the manufacturer backtracking on promised features for select models.

OnePlus recently launched its third smartphone of 2020 and its first mid-range device in years in the form of OnePlus Nord. Now, it looks like the brand is gearing up to launch its next flagship models, possibly called OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 8T Pro. Either one of these phones or even both may also feature a 64MP camera according to strings of code in OnePlus Camera v5.4.23.

The Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has been using 48MP shooter on its phones ever since it introduced it on the OnePlus 7 series. Now, finally, it will be making a switch to a 64MP sensor as per new findings by XDA Senior Member Some_Random_Username.

The OnePlus Camera app was recently updated to v5.4.23. A teardown was carried out by the person mentioned above and found out strings mentioning 64MP. This clearly suggests that OnePlus is preparing its stock camera app for its next smartphones with 64MP camera sensor

These strings reveal that there will be a dedicated 64MP mode and burst capture will not work in this mode. By default, the images will be captured at 16 megapixels like any other 64MP smartphone.

Having said that, there are no leaks on OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 8T Pro so far. Hence, it is not sure if both of them will come equipped with a 64MP camera sensor.

It has been only two months since OnePlus unveiled the OnePlus 8 series. But the brand is all set to launch its successors in the form of OnePlus 8T series in a few more months from now. Last year’s T series brought the people’s champion OnePlus 7T with 90Hz panel and a smaller notch but the OnePlus 7T Pro was not much of an upgrade. But his year’s 8T Pro might be better than the currently available 8 Pro, at least in terms of charging speed.

We all know that OnePlus shares resources with its sister brand Oppo. The Warp fast charging technology used in OnePlus smartphones is a rebranded Oppo VOOC charging.

Oppo’s 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 is the fastest commercially available charging solution for smartphones. The same tech is also known as SuperDart for Realme devices.

This solution may finally arrive on OnePlus smartphones with the launch of OnePlus 8T series later this year. Strings mentioning ‘Super Wrap Charger’ (typo) and ‘65W Fast Charge’ were found in the OnePlus Engineering Mode app in the latest Android 10 and Android 11-based OxygenOS builds by a Twitter user (via XDA Developers).

Since ultra-fast charging is a premium feature, we believe it to be exclusive to OnePlus 8T Pro or any other special edition of this handset if any as McLaren partnership has ended. Also, an OnePlus 65W charger has been already certified in May and thus we can expect the company to surely bring this feature in at least one of its next devices.

Additionally, OnePlus may also release a new color variant of OnePlus 8 series called ‘Ice Blue’.
