It is no longer news that OnePlus will officially announce the OnePlus 9 series on March 23 while it will be launched in China on March 24. What’s news is that the models are already up for pre-order in China from March 9. OnePlus has now officially shared a poster that reveals that the number of reservations for the OnePlus 9 series has exceeded 2 million across all the retail channels where it is up for reservation.

This is said to be the highest number of reservations garnered by an upcoming smartphone in OnePlus’ entire history. There is no doubt that the number of innovative features that have been teased to be onboard the OnePlus 9 has contributed to this high level of interest in the model. Although all of the reservations won’t translate to actual sales, they are indicators that the device will be an extremely popular one.

The OnePlus 9 series promises several top-of-the-pack features in all aspects such as design, screen, camera, and performance. The series will emerge as the world’s first model to feature a Samsung LTPO display. The display will come with up to a 120Hz refresh rate but also supports automatic adjustments that can take down to as low as 1Hz. This will have a huge effect on the battery consumption of the device.

In terms of the camera, OnePlus had earlier announced that it is in cooperation with German camera maker Hasselblad which will see the company tune the OP9 series cameras. Although OnePlus had hinted earlier on that it won’t send a review unit to DXOMark, we expect the camera to be topnotch on all the models.

As for the performance aspect, the OnePlus 9 series, being a flagship series, will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset paired with LPDDR5 RAM and the phone will pack UFS3.1 flash storage. It will also come with a new cooling system which can further improve its performance.

The OnePlus 9 series is expected to go on sale in China for the first time on March 30. That is after the official announcement in China on March 24.

The OnePlus 9 series is said to debut in multiple countries on March 23 at 10:00 AM ET and March 24 at 2 PM Beijing Time in China. The launch event will include four products – OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 9R(for India), and the OnePlus Watch. Let’s take a look at the expected specs, features, and prices of the OnePlus 9 devices ahead of launch.

OnePlus 9 series- What’s New?

Unlike the past, OnePlus has built quite the hype for the OnePlus 9 series cameras with the announcement of the Hasselblad partnership. The company will jointly develop natural color calibration with the Swedish camera maker. This partnership will continue for the next three-years as OnePlus invests about $150 million in its R&D labs situated around the world.

Talking about the design, high-quality renders show a revamped camera layout. We see the Hasselblad branding on both the models suggesting that the above-mentioned software tech could be available for both.

Either way, the camera layout gets a more refined finish as compared to the OnePlus 8T. Specifically, it looks like OnePlus has taken inspiration from the OPPO Reno series of smartphones.

However, unlike OPPO, the camera lenses inside are stacked in varying sizes. The OnePlus 9 Pro has quad-cameras while the non-Pro is said to stick with the triple-camera setup. The devices will launch in the following colors:

• OnePlus 9
  • Colors- Arctic Sky, Astral Black, Winter Mist.

• OnePlus 9 Pro
  • Colors- Stellar Black(sandstone-like finish), Forest Green, and Morning Mist(Silver)[2]*

As for the OnePlus 9R, the third device would be a first in the series [5](and launch in countries like India) as the OnePlus flagship lineup traditionally featured a standard and a Pro variant (if we exclude the special editions). The device is expected to feature a Snapdragon 870 chipset and provide a flagship experience at a more affordable price.

Not just the press renders, the static and live wallpapers of the devices have also been leaked. As you can see in the renders above, the wallpapers have a mix of color variants in them.

The OnePlus 9 series is expected to begin at $699. Specifically, the OnePlus 9 will likely cost around 699 euros for 8/128GB while the ‘Pro’ variant could begin at 899 euros for the base model as per WinFuture.de[3].

As for availability, registrations have already begun in China despite the launch being a day later than the global one. We can expect the global variants to be available across the majority of Europe, the USA, and Asia.

OnePlus 9R is launching for the Indian market and along with it, the entire pricing for the series has been leaked.

OnePlus is expected to break the silence on the OnePlus 9 series next week. The company has already started teasing its partnership with Hasselblad but we will have to wait till March 8 to confirm it. Besides, the color variants of the series have now been leaked and renowned leaker Evan Blass has revealed the pre-order details of the devices.

In a post, Evan Blass says that the OnePlus 9 series’s pre-orders will begin on March 23. This is the same date as the rumored launch date. Anyway, he also reveals the details of the early bird gifts for the OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro devices:

• OnePlus 9 – regular OnePlus Buds Z
• OnePlus 9 Pro- OnePlus Buds Z Steve Harrington Edition.

Additionally, Evan says that if the OnePlus 9R and the OnePlus Watch launch alongside the above devices, it won’t have any pre-order gifts. That said we already know that they are indeed accompanying the flagships at the launch event thanks to Ishan Agarwal.

One of the highly anticipated smartphones expected to berth in the first quarter of 2021 is the Oneplus 9 series. As should be expected, there have been several leaks surrounding the flagship OnePlus series and more are still coming. Noted tipster Digital Chat Station has hinted that the Oneplus 9 series won’t feature a periscope lens on any of the models.

The use of the periscope lens is fast gaining popularity among OEMs and the lens offers tremendous possibilities in terms of mobile photography. In most cases where OEMs have released a flagship with a periscope lens, it is usually on the topmost model. OnePlus is expected to release three new models next year but apparently, none of them will have a periscope telephoto camera. The disclosure by Digital Chat Station is the second time this rumor is emerging. It was first tipped back in November when several CAD-based renders of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro appeared online.

The renders suggest the device will come with four rear cameras but none of them will be a periscope lens. However, there has been no reason adduced as to why the device will miss out on the periscope lens. Also, there is no official word yet from Oneplus confirming or refuting the rumor of the OnePlus 9 missing out on the periscope lens.

Considering that the periscope lens is a popular piece of technology implemented by the likes of Huawei, Samsung, OPPO, Realme, and Xiaomi. Expectations are the OnePlus 9 Pro will have two prominent camera modules, accompanied by two smaller lenses.

OnePlus’ flagship for this year, the OnePlus 8 Pro and the Find X2 Pro that were very similar in hardware. The Find X2 Pro periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom while the OP8 Pro was launched with a modest 3x zoom shooter. So, it was expected that the OnePlus 9 Pro would address this disparity but that may end up not happening.
