OnePlus gives away the only OnePlus 9 Pro White color model

Earlier this month, we had reported on OnePlus working on a White color option for its flagship OnePlus 9 Pro. This White version is the only one of its kind and now the company has given away this unique model to a lucky winner.

For those unaware, the Chinese smartphone maker had revealed the special White variant of its 2021 flagship handset through a teaser video recently. While the 9 Pro was launched in a three colors, namely Morning Mist, Pine Green, and Stellar Black, the company showcased a white version as well. Although, it was stated that this model will not be mass produced or be available in the market.

So, it was unknown why the company had teased a device that it did not aim to sell. But soon after, the brand decided to hold a giveaway in which it selected a lucky winner in China, who would receive the only white 9 Pro ever made. The winner was @朱海舟 who shared the news and his excitement of winning the smartphone on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website.

While the OnePlus 9 Pro White is basically identical to any other color variant in terms of specifications, it does arrive with one key difference, which is the rear panel. The brand has stated that this model sports a double layer AG technology or diffuse reflection texture that makes the device feels warm and ensures a fingerprint free experience when using the smartphone. As of right now, it would seem that this is the rarest edition of a OnePlus device, as the company only made one unit.

Earlier this year, OnePlus launched its OnePlus 9 Pro flagship smartphone along with the OnePlus 9 and 9R models. At the time, the device was announced in three colors — Morning Mist, Pine Green, and Stellar Black.

The White color option for the OnePlus’ latest flagship smartphone wasn’t revealed but the company has now teased a White-colored OnePlus 9 Pro. Now, the brand has shared a teaser video in which the device is claimed to be “the world’s only customized White 9 Pro.”

It adds that this model adopts a double-layer AG technology or diffuse reflection texture that makes the device feels warm and ensures a fingerprint-free experience when using the smartphone. The company also talks about the camera performance which is compared with the professional cameras.

It has been confirmed by OnePlus that this White colored variant of the OnePlus 9 Pro won’t be mass-produced or sold. But it is not yet clear why the company is showing this new model at this time if there are no plans of selling it in the market.

To remind you, the OnePlus 9 Pro features a 6.7-inch QHD+ LTPO AMOLED display with a 3216 X 1440 pixel screen resolution and 525PPI pixel density. It offers a 120Hz refresh rate panel, that is covered under Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

Under the hood, it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset built using the 5nm process and has Adreno 660 GPU. As for the camera, there’s a quad-rear camera setup with Hasselblad branding. On the front, there’s a 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 sensor for taking selfies and video calling.

The primary sensor on the handset is a 48-megapixel Sony IMX789 sensor, coupled with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor. While the other two lenses include an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor and a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor.

It comes with features like a dual stereo speaker setup, a Type-C charging port, and an optical in-display fingerprint sensor. It runs an Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 custom interface and is powered by a 4,500mAh battery that supports 65W Warp Charge 65T as well as 50W wireless charging.

The OnePlus 9 Pro is OnePlus’s top-end model so far this year. When it launched, it was announced in three colors – Forest Green, Morning Mist, and Stellar Black but there may be more color options coming soon.

A live photo of a white variant of the flagship has appeared on Weibo courtesy of OnePlus’s own COO, Liu Fengshuo. The top executive posted the new colorway with a caption that loosely translates to “how about it? This color scheme is not bad, right”

The OnePlus 9 Pro appears in white

The white OnePlus 9 Pro looks like it has a matte finish and may be resistant to fingerprint smudges. These are features fans will definitely love.

At the moment, there is no info yet on if and when OnePlus plans to announce this white colorway but we want to believe it will eventually come to market. It has already been reported that OnePlus will not launch T-variants of the OnePlus 9 series, so it makes sense that the phones are refreshed with new colorways.

It is also interesting to see a white color variant of the OnePlus 9 Pro even though I think it is coming a bit late seeing as white has been a pretty popular color for a lot of flagships this year such as the Mi 11 Ultra, the Meizu 18 series, the Galaxy S21 5G, Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, and the OPPO Find X3 Pro.
