But the issue resurfaced recently with a new color hue. Instead of the typical green line, his OnePlus 9R suffered from a pink line problem. Thanks to OnePlus’ commitment of lifetime warranty on display (for green line related services), the company would fix the display for free once again. However, the customer service also offered an alternative deal. Either get his phone fixed for free, or pay just 6,000 INR and get a brand new OnePlus 12R (8GB + 256GB model).

This was the easiest no-brainer as the OnePlus customer paid peanuts for his more updated and powerful new phone. We just covered a report regarding the brand’s latest OnePlus 13s compact flagship getting a green line issue, but that incident is still under investigation. OnePlus has been steadily rolling out the OxygenOS 14.0.0.600 update for all of its eligible devices. The update has now reached the OnePlus 9R, offering several new features aimed at improving the user experience.

The OnePlus 9R received its Android 14-based OxygenOS 14 update in the first week of January. The device has now received two more updates that feature some performance improvements, bug fixes, and the latest security patch.

The first update is OxygenOS 13.1.0.586 which brings the February 2024 Android security patch to the OnePlus 9R. The update also removes the Background stream feature in the Smart Sidebar due to compliance issues.

The second update is OxygenOS 14.0.0.301 which brings many improvements over the previous version. It includes improvement to overall system stability and performance. It improves battery life in some scenarios and fixes an issue where the fingerprint icon remains on the screen even after unlocking the device. Last but not least, the overall camera stability is also improved in this update.

Both phones are receiving the new update, which features some exciting new changes and feature additions. The update is currently live for the India variants of both smartphones. The closed beta and open beta users will first receive the stable update and then gradually roll it out to the normal users.

Stable OxygenOS 14 for OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R

The OnePlus 8T is receiving the firmware KB2001_14.0.0.200 (EX01), while the OnePlus 9R is receiving the firmware LE2101_14.0.0.300 (EX01). The update changelog remains the same for both phones, including the addition of new File Dock and Content Extraction features, which allow users to drag-and-drop files between apps, and recognize and extract text from the screen, respectively. Further, there are many improvements, which are listed below in the official changelog:

Steps to Apple and Install Open Beta on OnePLus 9R and OnePlus 8T

• Make sure your device has at least 4GB RAM and 30% of battery left.
• Then Check whether your OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R are running this firmware:
  • LE2101_13.1.0.583(EX01) – OnePlus 9R
  • KB2001_13.1.0.582(EX01) – OnePlus 8T

Steps:

1. After fulfilling the above prerequisites, head over to the phone’s Settings > About device > Tap up to date > Tap icon on the top right > Beta program > Follow the steps to apply.
2. Wait for a few days (3-5) for the Realme Team to approve your request, and then head to Settings > About device > Download Now.

These steps apply both to the OnePlus 9R and OnePlus 8T smartphones. However, the users will receive the Open Beta 2 after some time. It will take a month’s time before hitting the stable build.

OnePlus took to community forums to detail updates for both the OnePlus 9R (Thread) and OnePlus 8/8 Pro (Thread). OnePlus has finally addressed the persistent “green line” issue affecting some of its users by offering a lifetime screen warranty for affected users in India. Numerous OnePlus users have reported an unusual “green line” issue on their older OnePlus phones with AMOLED panels, prompting the company to take action.

The problem appears to be widespread across multiple devices, but OnePlus has chosen to address it head-on by offering a lifetime screen warranty for owners of the OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 9, and OnePlus 9R. Users who are experiencing the “green line” issue on their OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 9 series devices will have the cost of screen repairs covered under this warranty. This lifetime screen warranty service is only available for users in India.

Android Authority has shared the following OnePlus’ official statement on lifetime screen warranty for affected users.

“We realize that this issue has caused a great deal of inconvenience to the affected users, and we apologize for it. In line with our unwavering commitment, we encourage users to visit the nearest OnePlus service centre for device diagnosis, and we will provide free screen replacement for all devices affected by the situation. On select OnePlus 8 and 9 Series devices, we are also offering a voucher that will provide the user with a fair percentage of the device value to upgrade to a new OnePlus device. In light of the current situation, we are now offering lifetime screen warranty on all affected devices. Thank you for your understanding and support.”

Notices at OnePlus Exclusive Service Centres, pointed out by Telegram user @docnok63, are informing customers with the “green line” issue about potential upgrade discounts. This initiative allows users to trade in their affected devices for newer OnePlus models, provided they make the purchase online through the OnePlus India website. For those who opt to purchase the India-exclusive OnePlus 10R, they will be able to take advantage of an additional discount of Rs 4,500 in the form of a voucher.

OnePlus smartphones boot vanilla ColorOS in China. Hence, with the advent of ColorOS 13, the brand’s handsets soon became part of the beta program as all of them are either flagships or upper mid-rangers.

Last week, all the remaining eligible OnePlus phones joined the Android 13-based ColorOS 13 beta program. Just a few days from that, Oppo has already revealed when most of these devices will receive the stable update.

Today, Oppo China disclosed the ColorOS 13 update plan for the month of November 2022. The schedule reveals the date on which the last remaining eligible OnePlus smartphones will get access to the stable update.

According to the timeline, the following OnePlus handsets will get access to the ColorOS 13 stable update on November 16 in China.

The only device missing on the list is the latest OnePlus Ace Pro (aka OnePlus 10T), which recently got a Genshin Impact limited edition.

Hence, apart from the Ace Pro, all the eligible OnePlus phones will boot Android 13 stable software as early as mid-November in China. We wish we could say the same for global variants of these smartphones. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case as of now.

Oppo has come a long way by improving its Android skin a lot. In fact, it currently has more models running the Android 13 stable build than Samsung.

OnePlus has just announced the Open Beta for ColorOS 13 for a number of its older smartphone models in its home country of China. The major update brings the highly anticipated Android 13 OS, so let’s have a look at all the models receiving this update.

The Chinese smartphone maker announced the recruitment for the Open Beta program on its official forums. It stated that the company’s R&D team is bringing the Android 13 OS based ColorOS 13 update to early adopters that own the OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, 8T, 9R, 9RT, and Ace Pro smartphone models in China. So for those interested, you can opt in for the open beta by clicking on this link here and registering. Once this step is done, you can expect to see a push notification that shows you when you’re eligible for the updates.

It is also advised that users back up their data before moving te the beta version. Furthermore, since this is not the final build, there will likely be some minor bugs or system glitches in the update as well. To get the beta update, one has to also ensure that their supported device has been upgraded to the basic version C.07, which you can check by going into Settings > About this device > Version information > Version number.

Notably, the company is accepting applications for the beta program between the dates 2022/10/11 to 2022/10/12. The brand will also be reviewing applications in batches within 5 working days. For those unaware, the final build of the Android 13 OS based ColorOS 13 is still a while away for these older OnePlus smartphones, but the open beta confirms that it is not too far off.

At the OnePlus 10T launch event last week, OxygenOS 13 was formally launched. The OnePlus 10 Pro, OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro beta testing of the Android 13-based software began not long after. The company has now announced that it is looking for OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R OxygenOS 13 Closed Beta testers.

OnePlus announced through a community post that OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R eager to check out the upcoming Android 12 based OxygenOS 13 can now apply to be a part of the beta testing team. As usual with beta testing, the company expects the testers provide regular feedback and suggestions to improve the software experience.

The company says that it will recruit 200 people who meet the requirements with a OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R India device to join this Closed Beta Program.

Please keep in mind that the closed beta is not the OxygenOS 13 stable version and that it may have bugs and security risks that could impair the device’s functionality.

OnePlus last month released the OxygenOS 12 update for the OnePlus 9R, OnePlus 8, 8T, and 8 Pro. Even before the users get a little excited about the update, OnePlus itself warned them about some bugs that they may face. And as warned by the company, users did face plenty of issues with their OnePlus phones. Now, OnePlus has started rolling a new OxygenOS 12 update for the aforementioned devices that brings several fixes.

The new OxygenOS 12 update is based on Android 12 and it has the version number KB2001_11.C.15_1150_202204021905(via). This update is currently being rolled out for devices in India and it brings stability in addition to the fixes. Some users in the previous update noticed slightly slower charging speeds, this update promises to fix that issue. Unfortunately, there’s no April security patch included with this update.

OnePlus warns of a couple of bugs too here, although they’re UI-related and shouldn’t be too big a cause of bother. The clock widget displays a bit bigger than it should and the Phone app may be replaced by Contacts in the dock following the update.

The builds are currently only rolling out in the OBT (open beta test) branch as part of a staged rollout but they should be released in the stable branch too, soon enough.

While the OnePlus 8T and the OnePlus 8 series have bagged OxygenOS 12 in India and North America both, the OnePlus 9R is only getting the same in India. OnePlus says the builds for Europe will take a while since it requires “additional validation steps.”

OnePlus kicked off the Android 12-based ColorOS 12 beta program for the OnePlus 9R ahead of Christmas. Almost two months, as scheduled, the brand has now started rolling out the stable update for this handset. On the other hand, the international variant, which is sold exclusively in India, only recently entered the OxygenOS 12 Open Beta program.

According to the official announcement post on OnePlus Community China, users need to be at least on firmware version A.15 to receive the ColorOS 12 stable update on their OnePlus 9R.

If they meet the criteria, then they head over to Settings > Software Update > Gear Icon > Upgrade Early Adopters > Application for Official Version. On this page, agree to the privacy policy, click on ‘Apply Now’, followed by ‘Check’ to download and install the Android 12 stable update.

Users need to go through these steps as the update is currently limited to those who want to try it by choice. If these early adopters don’t face any major issues, the release will be made available for everyone in the coming days.

Though the latest system update for the OnePlus 9R is called ‘stable’, OnePlus does mention a bug. The brand says that the lock screen flashes while unlocking with a large number of notifications. The only solution for this right now is to clear notifications.

That said, as mentioned earlier, the international OnePlus 9R just got access to Android 12 beta. Hence, the stable rollout for it will likely take a month or two.

The OnePlus 9R was released in India in the first half of 2021 with OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11. The device also debuted in China with Android 11-based ColorOS 11. The Chinese version is expected to get ColorOS 12 (Android 12) stable update this month. On the other hand, the Indian version has received the Android 12-based  OxygenOS 12 Open Beta 1 update only now.

OnePlus has finally released the OxygenOS 12 Open Beta 1 update for the OnePlus 9R. The latest public beta software build for the smartphone enables users to experience Android 12.

Anyone can install the update without the need for registration. All they have to do is download the required file and install it from Settings > System > System Updates > Top Right Icon > Local Upgrade.

Since its beta release, OnePlus warns of bugs. The brand says that some third-party apps may not function properly and the clock might be missing the dial display when the AOD feature is on.

If not satisfied with the beta update, users can roll back to the stable channel. Though the process is similar, it will wipe the phone’s internal storage.

As OnePlus is not known for revealing the timeline for stable rollout, it’s not known when the OnePlus 9R will get access to OxygenOS 12 stable update based on Android 12.

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 9R in India at the end of March. The smartphone went on sale a few weeks later in April. Almost 10 months after its announcement in the country, the brand has now confirmed to discontinue the product.

Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus is set to launch the OnePlus 9RT in India on January 14. Ahead of that, the firm has revealed its plans to discontinue the older OnePlus 9R in the region.

The company says that the handset will continue to sell in the country until stocks last. It is currently listed at ₹39,999 and ₹43,999 for the 8GB + 128GB and the 12GB + 256GB memory configurations respectively on Amazon. The eCommerce giant is offering a ₹3,000 discount coupon, in addition to bank discounts.

The OnePlus 9RT is expected to cost the same as the OnePlus 9R. Hence, it makes sense for the brand to stop selling the aged model.

The upcoming OnePlus 9RT brings certain updated features like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, a 50MP primary camera, and a larger 6.62-inch display. It will compete against the likes of Xiaomi 11T Pro and Realme GT2, which are expected to debut in the region later.

OnePlus may launch the OnePlus 9RT in the Indian market soon as the tipster Yogesh Brar has learned from a distribution channel that the company will discontinue a few of its phones soon.

OnePlus may discontinue the OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9R, and OnePlus 8T soon after the OnePlus 9RT’s Indian arrival and the firm seems to be already gearing up for it. The tipster said that the 9RT’s arrival could be the primary reason behind the discounted price of some of the existing OnePlus models.

For those who don’t know, the OnePlus 9 is currently selling for ₹36,999(~$497) in India after clubbing the discount coupon and bank cards. Originally, the phone costs ₹49,999(~$671). The OnePlus 9R costs ₹39,999(~$537) and it is also available at a cheaper price after clubbing the same discounts.

As per the distribution network OnePlus is planning to discontinue 8T, 9R and vanilla 9 as soon as 9RT is launched. This could be the case behind all these sudden discounts across the lineup.

While we take the discontinuance with a grain of salt, OnePlus may actually be preparing to introduce the OnePlus 9RT in the future months.

As for now, OnePlus China plans to unveil its flagship OnePlus 10 series next month. Recently, the phones were touted to launch in early January 2022. Notably, it will be a China launch and we’re expected to see plenty of upgrades over the predecessors. The major upgrades will be to the design and internals.

The series will be employing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC will have a unique camera module. It was recently touted to come with 80W fast charging support. The phones are expected to run on Android 12 OS out of the box.

OnePlus announced ColorOS 12 based on Android 12 in September. The new version of ColorOS will be available for both OPPO and OnePlus smartphones in China. However, for some reason, the company has already started recruiting testers more than a week ahead of the stipulated timeline.

OnePlus has opened registrations for OnePlus 9R ColorOS 12 Open Beta recruitment in China. According to the official announcement post on OnePlus Community China, applicants will have to submit a questionnaire for selection.

The company has also laid down certain conditions for testers which include applicants to use their mobile phones for more than 30 hours a week, and be able to accept instability, incompatibility, and other problems of the test version. Additionally, the brand is looking for testers with prior experience in evaluation and ROM internal testing.

Hence, the applicants who meet the above three and the other four conditions will have a high chance of acceptance. Anyway, even if you don’t meet the criteria, it is still worth applying for.

In order to register, users should be running firmware version A.14 on their devices. If an applicant gets selected, they will receive the Android 12-based ColorOS 12 Open Beta build via OTA. Users are advised to back up their data before installing the beta software.

OnePlus is rolling out a new system update for the OnePlus 9R in India. The new software update arrives almost two months after the last one. It comes with build number OxygenOS 11.2.4.4 and is being rolled out in batches.

According to the official announcement post on OnePlus Community, the OxygenOS 11.2.4.4 update for the OnePlus 9R bumps up the security patch level to July 2021 when it’s almost August. It also brings an updated GMS package (June 2021).

The latest software build comes with a new screenshot feature for AOD (Always-on Display). That’s not all, the update also adds the Bitmoji AOD option.

It optimizes overheating control management of third-party apps as well as experience of ‘Quick Reply’ in some scenarios. Last but not least, it also fixes some known issues.

As usual, the new OxygenOS update is being seeded out in batches. Therefore, some users might receive it later other others.

OnePlus has seen great growth in the second quarter of this year. While the company saw explosive growth during this period, it even lead the premium smartphone market in India.

The news arrives from Counterpoint Research that reported that the Chinese smartphone maker saw a whopping 200 percent growth year on year in Q2 2021. While it saw an explosive growth in the June quarter of this year, it even managed to secure a dominating 34 percent market share in the premium handset segment in India. During this time, the company also emerged as the 5G leader in the premium 5G smartphone segment in India, with a sizeable 48 percent market share.

The report added that OnePlus’ success in the region can be attributed to its consistent efforts to ‘raise the bar’ with each new flagship lineup. The company launched its latest OnePlus 9 series back in March 2021. The lineup included a top end Pro model along with a base, and a more affordable flagship variant, which has seen great success in the region. The lineup has seen a highly positive reception in India, which also contributed to its more than 200 percent YoY growth in Q2 2021.

Notably, the OnePlus 9R was the best selling device in India’s premium smartphone segment, accounting for 25 percent of the market. This was followed by the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. In other words, the brand’s entire 2021 lineup captured the top three spots in the segment and the higher end models were even among the top three best selling smartphones in the ultra premium segment as well.

The official spec sheets for the OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R says both phones ship with LPDDR4X RAM. While that may have been true for the several thousand units sold, that appears to no longer be the case.

A new report says some users have discovered that their OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R phones ship with the faster LPDDR5 RAM. The info comes from XDA Developers who have been able to confirm the info.

The change in RAM type was discovered by some users who tried to unbrick their phones using the MSMDownloadTool which doesn’t work with LPDDR5 RAM. While there is now a solution available for those with the faster RAM variant, the fact is that OnePlus is now selling both phones with a faster RAM than their spec sheet says.

You definitely won’t be able to tell before purchase if you will be getting the OnePlus 8T or OnePlus 9R with LPDDR4X RAM or LPDDR5 RAM. However, if you own one already, there is an easy way to find out the type of RAM the device has. XDA Developers says you have to run the command below if you have ADB installed on your PC:

adb shell getprop ro.boot.ddr_type

If it returns a “0”, you have the LPDDR4X RAM variant while “1” means you have LPDDR5 RAM.

The OnePlus 9R and OnePlus 8T are very closely related. The two major differences between them are the design and processor. So on both devices, you get a 6.55-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED screen, 48MP+16MP+5MP+2MP quad rear cameras, a 16MP front-facing camera, a 4500mAh battery capacity, and support for 65W fast charging. The OnePlus 8T has a Snapdragon 865 processor while the OnePlus 9R is powered by the more powerful Snapdragon 870.

A couple of weeks back, the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro were delisted by Geekbench for manipulation. This happened when a report by Anandtech revealed that the deices throttle performance of select popular apps but did not do such things while running benchmark applications. Interestingly, the company itself confirmed its doing and now, it has even announced a solution for the same.

OnePlus has confirmed to Android Police that the OnePlus 9R as well as the newly launched OnePlus Nord 2 also have performance optimizations like the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. Additionally, the brand has revealed that it will let users opt out of this with the next release of OxygenOS.

OnePlus says that its R&D team is currently working to add an option to turn on/off this optimized mode. The feature is said to arrive in one of the first builds of OxygenOS 12.

Since Android 12 stable is expected to release by September, OxygenOS 12 should also get announced at around the same time. Hence, we expect the so-called ‘optimized mode’ toggle to make its debut by the end of 2021.

Additionally, since OnePlus has merged the codebase of OxygenOS with ColorOS, we can anticipate more OPPO software features. In fact, the newly announced OnePlus Nord 2 with OxygenOS 11.3 with the integrated codebase already looks identical to the ColorOS.
