Last month, OnePlus India was selling a special bundle called OnePlus Band Power Music Bundle for a limited time. It was part of the company’s OnePlus Friday offers. A couple of weeks later, the brand is now offering discounts on select products, starting today (March 5) to the coming Monday (March 8).

OnePlus India is calling the new sale ‘The Final Horizon Sale’. The company has discounted some of its products to promote its upcoming event scheduled for March 8. The brand is expected to officially announce its partnership with the iconic Swedish camera maker Hasselblad for the OnePlus 9 series.

Last month, OnePlus had announced the OnePlus Buds Z Steven Harrington Edition TWS earphones, which went on sale on 24th December 2020. Now, the earphones have been launched in the Indian market.

The highlight of the OnePlus Buds Z Steven Harrington Edition is that it comes in a two-tone color — Purple and Mint and a matching charging case. It also features Steen Harrington’s signature styled graffiti along with unique caricatures and designs.

Apart from the design, everything else remains the same as the OnePlus Buds Z true wireless earphones launched in October last year along with the OnePlus 8T smartphone and the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z Bass Edition.

The launch date for the OnePlus Buds Z Steven Harrington special edition has just been announced. The limited variant of the company’s truly wireless earbuds will start sale on 24th December 2020 in China.

For those unaware, the OnePlus Buds Z was first launched back in October 2020. The new special edition variant that collaborates with known artist Steven Harrington is essentially identical to the base model. However, this limited edition version arrives with a new paint job over the regular model’s single color scheme design. The OnePlus Buds has a companion app that allows you to configure the earbuds, find them, and also receive firmware updates that bring new features. However, the app is only compatible with select OnePlus phones (OnePlus 6 and up). This means that owners of older OnePlus phones or non-OnePlus phones who pick up OnePlus TWS earbuds will miss out on these features.

OnePlus has now released a new app called HeyMelody that allows owners of older OnePlus phones or non-OnePlus phones to enjoy some of the aforementioned features including firmware updates.

The HeyMeldoy app can be installed on any Android device running Android Marshmallow and up. While it is a OnePlus app, it works not only with the OnePlus Buds and OnePlus Buds Z but also with the newly-announced OPPO Enco X and OPPO Enco W51 earbuds.

Users will be able to pair their earbuds to their phones using the app, check the battery level of each earbud and charging case, and also receive firmware updates.

Design

Design-wise, the Buds Z has a seashell design with polished CD patterns. It has an in-ear design angled earbuds with silicone ear tips. The charging case has a bit cylindrical design and it comes in Grey, White colors, and a special Steven Harrington Edition. The weight of each bud is 4.35g and the charging case is 40g.

Audio

Talking about audio, OnePlus Buds Z has a 10mm driver unit for punchier bass. It also has Dolby Atmos support that features bass boost, and dynamic 3D stereo audio. However, the Dolby Atmos works only on  OnePlus 7/7 Pro, 7T/7T Pro, and 8/8 Pro/8T. Next, the Buds Z features ENC(Environmental Noise Cancellation) but lacks ANC that is on its higher-priced sibling. It also supports Dirac Audio Digital Technology, and Panoramic sound fidelity to aid 3D stereo.

Battery life, Charging

OnePlus claims a 20hrs of playback time with earbuds and the charging case combined. This means you get about 5hrs with each bud and extra 15hrs with the case. However, OnePlus says this is subject to keeping the volume 1/3 of max and playing it in AAC mode.

The company says the earbuds supports fast charging and a 10-minute charge gives up to 3hrs playback. However, the 3hrs is a combination of earbuds and case which means the earbuds will give about 1.5hrs playback. Also, it requires a minimum of 5V~0.6A charger and a Type-C cable.

Other features

OnePlus Buds Z has Other features like IP55 rating for water and sweat resistance, 2-microphones, touch controls, Quick Pair, Quick Switch, ultra-low latency mode of 103ms, access to Google Assistant, and more. Here, the latency mode works only with Fnatic mode on OnePlus 6,7,8 series, and Nord devices. Also, Quick pair lets you automatically connect to devices on opening the case. It also has a “HeyMelody” app feature that tells the status and of the buds. You can also customize the tap functions in the app.

According to known leakster Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings), the OnePlus Buds Z will feature 3D stereo audio powered by Dolby Atmos. In the tweet, he also revealed that the latest truly wireless earbuds from the Chinese brand will support Bluetooth 5.0 along with Qualcomm’s Quick Pair. Furthermore, the new earbuds would offer up to 20 hours of playback on a full charge and can offer up to 3 hours of playback with just 10 minutes of charging. If this is true, we can expect some form of quick charging.

Apart from revealing the key specifications of the upcoming earbuds, the leakster also stated that the new OnePlus Buds Z will also arrive in a special edition by Steven Harrington, who is a Californian based contemporary artist. Unfortunately, we will have to wait for the official launch event to know for sure. Although, a few of the leaks like the 10mm drivers are in line with reports we had covered previously.

OnePlus 8T specifications

While recent reports have revealed almost everything about the OnePlus 8T phone, the specs sheet corroborates all the leaks that have surfaced so far. The OnePlus 8T measures 160.7 x 74.1 x 8.4mm and it weighs 188 grams. The device has a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a punch-hole design. It supports 1080 x 2400 pixels full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is integrated with a fingerprint scanner and it is protected by a 2.5D Gorilla Glass panel. The latest Android 11 OS along with the OxygenOS 11 will come preloaded on the phone.

The OnePlus 8T has a front camera of 16-megapixel. The rectangle-shaped camera housing has a Sony IMX586 48-megpaixel main camera, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens with 123-degree field-of-view, a 5-megapixel macro shooter, and a 2-megapixel mono lens.

OnePlus has confirmed that it will announce a new pair of TWS earbuds at its launch event next week. The earbuds are expected to arrive as the OnePlus Buds Z. Today, the folks at Oxygen Updater, have been able to get their hands on renders of the earbuds, thus giving us a good look at the design.

According to the post by Oxygen Updater, the renders were extracted from an APK sent by an anonymous individual. Sadly, they can’t share the APK for verification, as the source has requested they don’t.

The OnePlus Buds Z will indeed have silicone ear tips that should keep the noise out and the sounds in. The earbuds will come in a large pill-shaped case with a glossy finish. The earbuds lay sideways in the case, unlike the OnePlus Buds that sit vertically. There is an LED in front while the back is home to the USB-C charging port and the pairing button.

Specs of the TWS earbuds were also revealed earlier today by Ishan Agarwal, the young Indian leaker. In an exclusive post by 91Mobiles, the leaker revealed that the OnePlus Buds Z will have 10mm drivers and not 13.4mm drivers. It will also have Dolby Atmos and Dirac Audio Tuner.

With respect to battery life, the OnePlus Buds Z will last up to 5 hours on a single charge. With the case, the battery life goes up to 20 hours in total. There is also support for fast charging – a 10-minute charge will provide up to 3 hours of listening time. As expected, they will connect via Bluetooth 5.0 and it has been reported that each earbud will have dual microphones. OnePlus already confirmed that the OnePlus Buds Z has an IP55 rating.

A few days ago, OnePlus teased that it has a new audio product coming soon. We deduced that the new product is a pair of TWS earbuds which should launch as the OnePlus Buds Z. Today, OnePlus confirmed that it will indeed launch a new pair of earbuds on October 14.

According to a post made on Twitter, the new Buds will have an IP55-rating. The teaser from earlier this week showed that the earbuds will have silicone ear tips.

It has bee reported that the earbuds will also weigh less at 4.35 grams per earbud compared to the OnePlus Buds which have a weight of 4.6 grams per earbud. The OnePlus Buds Z should connect via Bluetooth 5.0 and work with the OnePlus Buds app.

The new earbuds will launch alongside the OnePlus 8T flagship smartphone.

OnePlus has teased the launch of a new audio product. A teaser was posted on Twitter today along with a link that leads to the OnePlus 8T launch event page, thus hinting at the product launching on October 14 too.

The teaser shows a silicone earbud which means the product is a pair of earphones. It has been reported that OnePlus plans to announce a new pair of TWS earbuds that will launch as the OnePlus Buds Z. This tweet most likely teases the design.

The OnePlus Buds earbuds have a semi-open design but it appears the Buds Z will have a closed design thanks to the silicone tips. We expect it to have a more affordable price tag than its sibling. However, a lower price tag may translate into fewer features available.

OnePlus has scheduled October 14 for the launch of its new smartphone, the OnePlus 8T. Along with the phone, it is also expected to announce a number of other products. While we strongly believe the OnePlus Buds Z will launch on that day, we also presume a power bank will also be announced. Last month, the Bureau of Indian Standards certified a OnePlus Power Bank. The power bank which should have fast charging has been teased for months now.

Folks over at XDA Developers performed a teardown of the OnePlus Camera app that comes bundled with OxygenOS 11 Beta 1 for OnePlus 8/8 Pro. They found out that the company is working on 8K video recording up to 960fps.

For those unaware, the Spectra 480 ISP present in current-gen Snapdragon 865/865+ is only capable of recording 720p videos at 960fps. As for 8K, it can only handle 30fps and this feature is available in a number of smartphones released this year.

In fact, this ISP doesn’t even natively support 960fps in 1080p and 4K resolutions but the strings mention all of them. So OnePlus could be mostly using interpolation for this feature. Also, we cannot rule out the possibility of this feature to debut on a device with next-gen Qualcomm flagship SoC with a better ISP.

OnePlus 8T

A few days back, a render of OnePlus 8T was unearthed from the OxygenOS Android 11 Beta 4 build. The file was named “oneplus_8t.webp”. But in the latest OxygenOS 11 Open Beta 1, the company has renamed the file to “oneplus_kebab.webp”.

Also, the strings from the Settings app suggest two variants of OnePlus 8T – kebab for Canada and India & kebabt for the US.

OnePlus Buds Z

Similarly, XDA Senior Member Some_Random_Username found strings mentioning the unreleased OnePlus Buds Z. Since the company uses Z branding for its lite/budget version of earphones (e.g., OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z), this could be a cheaper variant of already available OnePlus Buds TWS.
