<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-346832" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/OnePlus-8T-Aquamarine-Green-featured.jpg?x10805" alt="OnePlus 8T Aquamarine Green featured" width="445" height="434" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/OnePlus-8T-Aquamarine-Green-featured.jpg 445w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/OnePlus-8T-Aquamarine-Green-featured-300x293.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/OnePlus-8T-Aquamarine-Green-featured-431x420.jpg 431w" sizes="(max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px" /></p>
<p>A teardown of the new camera APK, which has version number 6.4.2.3 and was found in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/20/oneplus-7-and-oneplus-7-pro-get-oxygenos-11-android-11-open-beta-update/">OxygenOS Open Beta released for the OnePlus 7</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/21/oneplus-7t-pro-oxygenos-11-open-beta-1-android-11-update/">OnePlus 7T series</a>, was done by the folks at <em><a href="https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-camera-new-features-oneplus-9/">XDA Developers</a></em>. The teardown revealed strings and codes relating to the new camera features which are expected to be released in the future. Below are the features:</p>
<p><strong>Tilt-shift mode</strong></p>
<p>A tilt-shift lens is a type of lens that can change its orientation and position with respect to the image sensor. In a typical camera, the lens and sensor are parallel to one another and on the same plane. If you use a tilt-shift lens, you can “tilt” or “shift” the position of the lens to a different direction thus changing the angle of the plane and one of the results you get is a miniature image. The screenshot (below) of the Tilt-shift mode for the OnePlus Camera shows how the feature works.</p>
<figure id="attachment_367652" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-367652" style="width: 1096px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-367652" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/OnePlus-Camera-Tilt-shift-mode.png?x10805" alt="OnePlus Camera Tilt-shift mode" width="1096" height="787" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/OnePlus-Camera-Tilt-shift-mode.png 1096w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/OnePlus-Camera-Tilt-shift-mode-300x215.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/OnePlus-Camera-Tilt-shift-mode-768x551.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/OnePlus-Camera-Tilt-shift-mode-1024x735.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/OnePlus-Camera-Tilt-shift-mode-696x500.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/OnePlus-Camera-Tilt-shift-mode-1068x767.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/OnePlus-Camera-Tilt-shift-mode-585x420.png 585w" sizes="(max-width: 1096px) 100vw, 1096px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-367652" class="wp-caption-text">Image source: LossyX via XDA Developers</figcaption></figure>
<p>This feature sounds like one that will be based on hardware, so there is a chance it may not be available for certain devices.</p>
<p><strong>Starburst</strong></p>
<p>If you look at a light source and you can see star-like effects around it rather than a dot, then you have what is called starburst vision and you should see a doctor. However, starburst looks nice in photos and it appears OnePlus will allow you to be able to capture images of a light source with the effect.</p>
<p><strong>Moon mode</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> can be said to be the manufacturer that made taking photos of the moon with your phone popular, and lately more manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon. OnePlus will be the latest to do so and they will even add different filters that allow you to change the color of the moon.</p>
<p><strong>Hyperlapse</strong></p>
<p>The OnePlus camera can take timelapse videos which is a sped-up video taken at a stationary point. OnePlus plans to add a dedicated Hyperlapse mode which will allow you to record sped-up videos over long distances. This should come in handy once the pandemic is over and folks can travel and visit places.</p>
<p><strong>Focus peaking</strong></p>
<p>Focus peaking is a feature that is found in a lot of cameras, and what it does is highlight the edges that are in focus for you. OnePlus seems to be bringing it to its phones.</p>
<p>We do not know when these features will be available and which phones will get them but our guess is that they may debut first on the OnePlus 9 series before rolling out to older eligible devices.</p>

The relatively young smartphone manufacturer has grown significantly in Southeast Asia and is seeing growth even in the European regions as well. <p>A passionate OnePlus fan on Weibo who goes by the name of Xiao Kanmei (@小侃妹) shared a video on the Chinese microblogging website that presented every OnePlus smartphone ever launched. It showcased the company&#8217;s different designs and the changes over the years and the post was even recognized by OnePlus as well. Looking at the video, OnePlus smartphones ls starting from the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-one/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OnePlus One</a> to the latest <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-7t-pro-5g-mclaren/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OnePlus 7T Pro</a> and the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/01/08/oneplus-concept-one-phone-with-electrochromic-glass-to-hide-rear-cameras-announced-at-ces-2020/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Concept One</a> device can be seen.</p>

<h4>Changes in Functionality</h4>
<p>Starting from the first ever released smartphone to<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> OnePlus 3</a>/<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-3t/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">3T</a>, the company had launched handsets with a single camera on the rear. A few notable inclusions in the technology used was the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OnePlus 2</a>&#8216;s laser autofocus and OIS on the OnePlus 3 series. After the 3rd generation, however, the company rapidly shifted to the dual camera setup, with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-5/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OnePlus 5</a> featuring the telephoto lens. The additional sensor opened the doors for portrait photography that has since become a staple in the company&#8217;s offerings.</p>
<figure id="attachment_133612" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-133612" style="width: 940px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-133612 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/OnePlus-3T-rear.jpeg?x10805" alt="OnePlus 3T rear" width="940" height="540" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/OnePlus-3T-rear.jpeg 940w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/OnePlus-3T-rear-300x172.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/OnePlus-3T-rear-768x441.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/OnePlus-3T-rear-870x500.jpeg 870w" sizes="(max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-133612" class="wp-caption-text">OnePlus 3T</figcaption></figure>
<p>Oddly, the devices that followed OnePlus 5 never featured a secondary camera that offered a separate function since, until the OnePlus 7 Pro launched back in 2019. The smartphone arrived with a triple camera module, a first for the company, and featured a primary sensor, ultra wide angle lens, and the telephoto lens as well. From then on, other releases like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-7t-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OnePlus 7T</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-7t-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">7T Pro</a> also offered a similar setup, apart from the base <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-7/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OnePlus 7</a> variant that offered just a depth sensor, similar to the ones found in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-6/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OnePlus 6</a>/<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-6t/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">6T</a>.</p>
<figure id="attachment_306167" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-306167" style="width: 524px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-306167 " src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/oneplus_7t_pro_1_3.png?x10805" alt="" width="524" height="524" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/oneplus_7t_pro_1_3.png 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/oneplus_7t_pro_1_3-150x150.png 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/oneplus_7t_pro_1_3-300x300.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/oneplus_7t_pro_1_3-768x768.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/oneplus_7t_pro_1_3-696x696.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/oneplus_7t_pro_1_3-420x420.png 420w" sizes="(max-width: 524px) 100vw, 524px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-306167" class="wp-caption-text">OnePlus 7T Pro</figcaption></figure>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/20/xiaomi-redmi-k30-pro-3c-certification/">Xiaomi 5G smartphone with 33W fast charging passed certification; could be Redmi K30 Pro</a></strong></h6>
<h4>Design</h4>
<p>When looking at the design, the early years of OnePlus had the company experiment heavily with its format and structure of a smartphone. Each generation had a very different design from the last, with the camera going from the center middle, top left, just the middle and more. But with the recent generations from the OnePlus 6 series to the 7 and 7T series, a mature and recognizable design of stacked cameras in the middle can be observed.</p>

<p>However, the company is known to be flexible with its design and that might soon change in the upcoming 8th iterations. One particular smartphone that stood out was the OnePlus Concept One. The handset isn&#8217;t a commercially available product from the OEM but was developed to tease a new vanishing camera technology. In other words, the lens at the back disappears when not in use.</p>

<p>All in all, OnePlus has grown impressively as a smartphone brand, especially in India where it is the market leader in the premium smartphone segments. Furthermore, its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus-8/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">2020 lineup</a> is also expected to arrive with various improvements and we are looking forward to seeing what new features and designs OnePlus has in store for us.</p>

This led to a lot of users questioning the phone&#8217;s DxOMark score.</p>
<figure id="attachment_268109" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-268109" style="width: 1778px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700005.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-268109 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700005.jpg?x10805" alt="OnePLus 7 featured" width="1778" height="1000" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700005.jpg 1778w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700005-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700005-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700005-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700005-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700005-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700005-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1778px) 100vw, 1778px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-268109" class="wp-caption-text">OnePlus 7 has a pretty good camera setup too</figcaption></figure>
<p>Recently OnePlus product manager, Zack Zhang, explained the situation to The Next Web, <em>&#8220;When people started getting the device, software which gave us really good grades, didn’t match their expectations. The photo needs to be natural and good in theory, but visually appealing as well. We didn’t do a good job at balancing those two aspects.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>While the company flagships have come a long way in terms of sheer camera performance, it still lags behind industry leaders such as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a>, Google, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a>. And Zack admits that the company isn&#8217;t satisfied with its camera performance. &#8220;<em>Even by our own standards, the camera is not where we want it to be. We’re trying to improve our image quality to match the best in the market.&#8221;</em></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/04/alleged-oneplus-7t-pro-live-photos-leaked-no-significant-change/">Alleged OnePlus 7T Pro live photos leaked; no significant change</a></strong></p>
<p>He further reveals that OnePlus has adopted a new philosophy for its camera where it wants the pictures to be natural yet feature a lot of emotion. The company wants to optimize this balance to ensure the pictures captured from OnePlus smartphones not only come out true to life but also satisfy the expectations of the user.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700018.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-268122" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700018.jpg?x10805" alt="OnePLus 7 logo " width="1778" height="1000" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700018.jpg 1778w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700018-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700018-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700018-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700018-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700018-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Imageoneplus700018-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1778px) 100vw, 1778px" /></a></p>
<p>In this regard, the company has already setup special camera labs in four countries: mainland China, Taiwan, India, and Germany. However, it remains to be seen whether it can catch up with giants such as Huawei and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> who are well ahead in terms of computational photography.</p>
