Although OnePlus merged its operating system codebase with OPPO’s ColorOS and the Chinese OnePlus devices come with ColorOS out of the box, the brand has largely been able to maintain its identity. Now, in an interview, OnePlus China’s president Li Jie has shared some of the advantages that have been gained from the merger.

In an interview with NetEase Technology and other media outlets, Li Jin revealed that they are now able to expand to 10,000 offline stores overnight in China. As we know, OnePlus for the large part has been an online-focused brand with most of its sales happening online. Using OPPO’s resources, OnePlus can now expand its physical stores to 2,800 county towns, 4,000 core business districts, and more than 5,000 experience points overnight.

The company is able to do so by opening its experience stores inside of existing OPPO outlets. Usually, it takes years for a manufacturer to establish 10,000 physical stores, and it also takes a lot of capital investment. But that’s not the case for OnePlus as Li Jin explains “OPPO’s store is ready-made, the rent has been paid, and the basic salary of the experienced consultant has been paid. For us, it is only on the counter. Find an area that belongs to OnePlus, put the product on it, and if the product generates some sales or services, you will get a commission. This is the benefit of integration, and the offline cost is very low.”

Li Jie also emphasized the importance of having offline experience store sayings “Our products and brands have always emphasized workmanship and texture, including detail polishing. If there is no offline experience link, many times users don’t know or perceive it!”

Oneplus Ace

Using OPPO’s supply chain to achieve this will largely reduce the cost and investment for OnePlus. OnePlus president also pointed out many other benefits they enjoy with the merger. OnePlus recently launched the OnePlus Ace which features OPPO’s 150W SUPERVOOC fast charging. The cutting edge fast charging speed would’ve been difficult to achieve as OnePlus previously worked alone and only had one or two thousand engineers. After the integration, it cooperates with more than 10,000 engineers from OPPO expanding its R&D capabilities and increasing efficiency.

Separately, the recently launched OnePlus Ace will be rebranded for the global market and launch with the OnePlus 10R moniker in India on April 27. Check out our roundup story to learn more about the upcoming phone.

Located in India’s silicon valley-Brigade Road, is one of a kind structure consisting of two floors with more than 39,000 square feet of retail space with multiple entries and exit points.

The store is designed with an aim towards providing the customers with a holistic, premium offline experience to interact closely with the brand’s offerings. As the name suggests (OnePlus Boulevard”) the store has a lot of natural and earthy elements giving the space a lot of warmth and elegance.

Some design elements include the terracotta material finish for the walls, and several clay and ceramic artworks sourced from artists across India.

The ground floor has a vast experience center where customers can interact with all OnePlus products by touching and feeling them. There is a dedicated community zone that features a community lounge, gaming zone as well as an auditorium to host events. The OnePlus Boulevard also features the signature coffee experience zone and a special unboxing zone for customers to open and set up their newly bought products.

Addressing the launch of the new OnePlus Boulevard, Navnit Nakra, India CEO and Head of India Region, OnePlus India, shared “Right from the start of our India journey in 2014, our community in India has always received our products very positively. The India community has played a significant role in our brand’s growth and continues to do so. Owing to this, we believe that India region would make for the perfect venue to house our largest OnePlus Experience Store, called the “OnePlus Boulevard.” This is also a testament towards our commitment to provide our community with the best user experience across all offerings of our brand.

He also added, “OnePlus’ journey in India began right here, in our country’s biggest tech hub, Bengaluru. And we are excited to bring our largest OnePlus Experience Store in the world to our India community here.”

The expansion of offline stores in India is a part of the brand’s ongoing endeavor to enhance its offline presence using an omni-channel strategy and provide more retail touchpoints for consumers to interact with the brand on a more intimate level. One plus has invested INR 100 crore towards offline expansion in India and is looking forward to operating 15,000+ offline stores, including partnered stores, by end of the year.

The store is offering its customers all the latest OnePlus products including the newly launched OnePlus Nord CE 2 thereby bringing the brand closer to its diverse user community.

The OnePlus Boulevard has kept in mind the safety of its staff and customers by prioritizing safety and hygiene measures in its offline stores and is complying with government guidelines on Covid-19.

As of right now, the company has already opened up about 200 physical stores in China.

Back in November 2015, the Chinese company had issued an announcement that it was closing down its 45 OnePlus experience stores across the country. The move was made to further grow its online channel and reserve its limited finances at the time. Back then the company had only offered 3 smartphone models with which it could not sustain due to it cutting into the OEMs profits.

Jumping forward to now, the company has seen great success with its e-commerce approach. A notable example is the Indian market where its handsets were well received and even became a top runner in the premium segment in recent times.

Earlier today (20th January 2020), Pete Lau, the CEO and Co-Founder of OnePlus, stated that the company has over 200 offline stores, which include its experience stores and even authorized sellers, with more expected to arrive soon after. These stores will include, and are not limited to, smartphones alongside the peripheral accessories like earphones and more.

In an interview with Reuters, OnePlus India General Manager Vikas Agarwal had said that the company is planning to establish around 10 retail stores across the country in the second half of 2018. Currently, the company is operating five retail stores in India.

Along with the expansion of its retail stores in India, OnePlus is also planning to start a Research & Development (R&D) unit in the country. Apart from the fact that India is the world’s second largest smartphone market, it also accounted for one-third of OnePlus’ revenue of $1 billion last year.

The Chinese smartphone brand sells the majority of its smartphones through Amazon India, with which it has entered into an exclusive partnership, as well as on its official online store in India.

Vikas Agarwal had said that all the OnePlus phones sold in India were manufactured locally. He also added: “We’ve already upgraded to local production of the components and will continue to look at further plans as the government announces the next wave of localization.”

Last week, OnePlus opened three new experience stores in India — one each in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bangalore. Thanks to this offline stores, the sales of OnePlus 6 grew by 91 percent compared to the sale of OnePlus 5.
