Since then, there have been multiple reports of the device catching fire and even causing severe burns and injury to the victims. So far, the company has cited damage through external force in a majority of the cases.

Now, reports have emerged of another OnePlus Nord 2 device exploding while the user was on a call.

@OnePlus_IN Stop promoting/introducing new phones and start working on your existing products.
My brother’s phone One Plus Nord 2 burst out suddenly while he was talking on phone.
Portions of melted metal got clinged on his palm and face.
We will get this reported shortly. pic.twitter.com/x1pVoDosZM

— Lakshay Verma (@lakshayvrm) March 26, 2022

The incident was first reported on March 26, 2022. According to Twitter user Lakshay Verma (@lakshayvrm), the device exploded in his brother’s hand while he was on a call. The explosion caused melted metal fragments to cling to the user’s palm and face.

In a deleted tweet, Lakshay documented that he and his brother went to the OnePlus service center in CP (Connaught Place, New Delhi) to seek resolution on the matter. The service center reportedly asked the affected party to with for 2-3 days, following which they called Lakshay to collect the burnt device since they can’t do anything in the matter.

Looking at the pictures provided in the tweet, the phone is completely damaged and beyond repair. The blast appears to have happened around the left edge of the phone, which is where the phone caught fire in earlier cases as well.

A 91mobiles report states that the victim has filed a case against OnePlus at the consumer court after not getting a proper response from the company on the incident. So far, it appears that OnePlus has kept quiet on the matter after initially directing the Twitter user to contact the company over DMs so they could ” look into the claim.”

This incident is just the latest one in a long line of reported cases of the OnePlus Nord 2 exploding. Users of the OnePlus Nord have shown concern over the incident stating they are “scared” that their device might explode. Stay tuned for more updates on this latest incident.

This time the incident affected an Indian lawyer who claimed that his new premium mid range handset caught fire and exploded while it was resting idle.

The news arrives from MySmartPrice who found that a Twitter user named Gaurav Gulati claimed that his Nord 2 unit had recently caught fire and exploded. Notably, this marks the second time this particular model has seen an accident in the region. Back in August, the Chinese smartphone brand had responded to another incident regarding a Nord 2 unit exploding, but ruled out the cause as external factors rather than a manufacturing defect.

But now, an Indian lawyer claims that the device was simply in his black robe when he suddenly realized he felt something hot in his pocket. After this, Gulati stated that he threw away his robe and saw smoke coming out of the device, which later caught fire and even exploded inside a court chamber. He further claimed that the device was not on charge and that around 90 per cent of the battery was left as the smartphone was not in use before the incident.

At the moment, OnePlus has reached out to Gulati and have asked for him to submit his device. Although, it seems that he is taking the legal route and has submitted his Nord 2 to the police and has filed an official complaint against the company’s India branch. Furthermore, the lawyer has even complained to the consumer court, bringing an injunction to block the sales of the phone in India. Gaurav is making this move as he found that the company was “quite insensitive to injuries and trauma I have suffered.”

In a statement, OnePlus said “Last evening, an individual notified us about an alleged blast case for the OnePlus Nord 2 on Twitter, and our team immediately reached out to this individual to verify the legitimacy of the claim. We take every claim such as this very seriously out of concern for user safety. However, despite multiple attempts to analyse the device, including a visit to the premises earlier today to examine it in the individual’s presence, he has so far denied us the opportunity to perform a proper diagnosis. Under such circumstances, it is impossible for us to verify the legitimacy of this claim or address this individual’s demands for compensation.”

Soon after the tweet, OnePlus was kind enough to respond to the user by helping him with the further doings. The Chinese manufacturer also revealed that the blast was caused solely due to external factors and there weren’t any manufacturing defects.

Just Yesterday, another Twitter user named Shubham Srivastava shared that his father’s OnePlus Nord 2 unit exploded. But, thankfully, it didn’t cause any harm. Now, OnePlus has officially confirmed that the second incident reported by Srivastava was fake.

OnePlus shared a statement regarding the second blase case.

“Earlier today, we were notified on Twitter about an alleged blast case for the OnePlus Nord 2. We always take such claims very seriously and immediately look into each one to first verify the legitimacy of the claim. During our conversation with this individual, we were able to confirm that this alleged case was false and in no way involved any OnePlus product. All OnePlus products undergo thorough quality and safety tests to ensure that they are up to leading industry standards and are safe to use”, stated OnePlus.

In continuation, “We also follow strict internal processes to ensure the health and safety of our users, while also protecting the reputation of our brand. We urge the public to exercise restraint in judging unverified allegations such as this.”

Although the second incident was fake, the first blast case still remains to be true. Also, it is worth noting that several other phones from big brands have been subject to such blasts. Either due to battery issues or due to some manufacturing defects.

The story which first popped up on Twitter was shared by Ankur Sharma from Bengaluru, India who claimed that the ill-fated unit owned by his wife exploded in her sling while she went cycling in the morning. The sudden blast resulted in an accident which all left the wife traumatized.

OnePlus India had responded immediately to the tweet which was later deleted. The company’s Support team expressed their deep concern about the incident and asked the author to contact them via direct message for further assistance.

OnePlus has now concluded its investigation into the incident and has released an official statement. The statement indicated that the company’s investigation showed that the blast wasn’t caused by a defect in the manufacturing process but as a result of an isolated incident involving external factors.

Hi Ankur. We are gutted to hear about your experience. We are deeply concerned and want to make it up to you.
OnePlus reiterates that its products are manufactured under a system of thorough quality and safety tests, allaying the fears of fans who may have bought the Nord 2 or any other of its products and are shaken by this isolated incident.

You can read the full official statement from OnePlus below:

Our top priority is the health and safety of our customers. We reached out to the concerned user immediately after hearing about this incident and initiated a thorough internal investigation. The results indicate that the damage to this device was caused by an isolated incident involving external factors and not due to any manufacturing or product issue. However, we remain in close touch with this user and have offered our support to address their concerns and ensure their wellbeing.

We would like to assure our customers that our products undergo thorough quality and safety tests, including various levels of pressure and impact tests, to ensure they are up to industry-leading standards and remain safe to use.
