The foldable had a sleek profile, solid performance, and software that felt more polished than most early-generation foldables.</p>

<p>So it looked like OnePlus was going to be the next big contender in this space after Samsung and Google.</p>

<p>Naturally, anticipation for the Open 2 was high. However, the company didn’t make this a reality in 2024, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/02/13/oneplus-confirms-it-will-not-launch-open-2-in-2025/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">nor in 2025</a>. Hopes were high for 2026, but recently, news broke that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/01/13/oneplus-open-2-canceled-2026-report/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OnePlus is cancelling the Open 2</a> yet again this year.</p>

<p>As much as we, as foldable enthusiasts, are saddened by this news, it also means OnePlus missed a lot by cancelling the Open 2. And that’s exactly what we’re here to talk about.</p>

<h3><strong>The first Open was supposed to be the beginning, not the end</strong></h3>

<p>When the original OnePlus Open launched back in 2023, it caught a lot of people off guard.</p>

<p>OnePlus had spent years trying to stay competitive in the traditional smartphone market. But it was stuck in the loop of predictable Android phones. The Open was different. It was bold. It was premium. It was the company’s first foldable, and it actually felt like a serious attempt to compete with Samsung and Google.</p>

<p>Reviewers liked it. Users liked it. And for a moment, it looked like OnePlus had finally found a way to stand out again.</p>

<p>Naturally, people expected a sequel, and that’s how product cycles are supposed to work. You launch something interesting, learn from it, and then release a better version a year or two later.</p>

<p>Instead, OnePlus kept delaying the Open 2. Then rumors started piling up that it might be cancelled altogether. And now, in 2026, reports suggest that the device might not happen at all.</p>

<h3><strong>The foldable market didn’t wait around</strong></h3>

<p>One of the biggest problems with cancelling the Open 2 is simple timing.</p>

<p>Foldables used to feel like a gimmick—expensive, fragile, and maybe <em>unnecessary</em>. But over the last few years, they’ve slowly turned into a real category. Samsung has refined its Galaxy Z Fold line, Google’s Pixel foldables are now part of its main number series, and other brands like Honor have also pushed out surprisingly polished hardware.</p>

<p>The idea of a phone that unfolds into a small tablet doesn’t sound weird anymore. In fact, OnePlus was doing it right from the first generation. Unlike the tall aspect ratio of Galaxy Z Fold devices, the OnePlus Open has a noticeably wider screen that makes it feel more like a standard smartphone.</p>

<p>This was exactly the moment when OnePlus could have stepped in with a strong second-generation device and made another dent in the market.</p>

<h3><strong>OnePlus also had a chance to be more than “just another Android brand”</strong></h3>

<p>We knew the original OnePlus as a brand that shipped flagship specs without flagship prices. It built its entire fanbase around that idea. However, the brand slowly started to lose that identity when it began launching true flagships with flagship-level pricing.</p>

<p>And it’s not that OnePlus smartphones are bad. They’re exactly what you’d expect from a modern flagship. But if users have to pay flagship prices, many tend to prefer legacy brands like Samsung.</p>

<p>The Open, however, was one of the few recent products that had the potential to make OnePlus feel special again. Cancelling its sequel sends the opposite message.</p>

<h3><strong>A lot of potential improvements will never happen</strong></h3>

<p>The frustrating part is that the OnePlus Open 2 actually sounded promising.</p>

<p>According to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/01/13/oneplus-open-2-canceled-2026-report/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">leaks and reports</a>, the device was expected to fix many of the original model’s shortcomings:</p>

<ul><li>A thinner and lighter design</li><li>Better cameras with improved Hasselblad tuning</li><li>A newer flagship Qualcomm processor</li><li>Wireless charging</li><li>Stronger water resistance</li><li>Larger, brighter displays</li></ul>

<p>So it looked like OnePlus was preparing a genuinely competitive foldable, not just a minor refresh.</p>

<p>Even if half of these rumors were true, the Open 2 could have been one of the more interesting foldables of 2026. Now, all that work, research, and anticipation amounts to nothing.</p>

<h3><strong>Cancelling products hurts more than people think</strong></h3>

<p>From the outside, cancelling a phone might seem like a practical business decision. But from a customer’s perspective, it’s very different.</p>

<p>People who bought the original OnePlus Open did so assuming it was the start of a long-term product line. They expected better software support, new accessories, and eventually a worthy upgrade path.</p>

<p>Now those buyers are left with no choice but to switch to another brand—willingly or not. This doesn’t just hurt foldable users; it hurts the brand as a whole. People who invest in foldables are often the same users willing to invest in ecosystem products. So, OnePlus is not only losing customers in the foldable side but also its ecosystem products.</p>

<h3><strong>The competition gets an easier road</strong></h3>

<p>The biggest beneficiaries of OnePlus&#8217;s cancellation of its foldable ambitions are Samsung and Google.</p>

<p>Without the Open 2 in the picture, the foldable market in many regions essentially goes back to being a two-horse race. Samsung continues to dominate by default. Google positions the Pixel Fold as the main alternative.</p>

<p>OnePlus could have offered something different—maybe cheaper, maybe better designed, maybe just more interesting. Instead, it chose not to play at all.</p>

<h3><strong>There are probably practical reasons</strong></h3>

<p>To be fair, OnePlus likely has its reasons.</p>

<p>Component prices have gone up. The smartphone market isn’t as healthy as it once was. Foldables are expensive to develop and risky to manufacture. Profit margins are thin.</p>

<p>From a spreadsheet perspective, cancelling the Open 2 might make perfect sense. But tech history is full of examples where playing it safe led to long-term irrelevance. <em>Remember BlackBerry?</em></p>

<p>The companies people remember are usually the ones willing to take risks. So it shouldn’t matter even when the numbers don’t look great on paper.</p>

<h3><strong>The real loss is bigger than one phone</strong></h3>

<p>In the end, the OnePlus Open 2 isn’t just a cancelled gadget. It’s a missed opportunity for OnePlus to rebuild a strong brand identity instead of remaining just another smartphone company.</p>

<p>All we can do now is criticize the decision and hope OnePlus either reverses course or launches the Open 2 late—rather than never.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-open/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OnePlus Open</a> was one of the standout foldables of 2023, not just because of its hardware, but also thanks to surprisingly polished software. With such success, it was natural to expect a successor that would build on it.</p>

<p>But OnePlus never shipped an Open 2 in 2024 or 2025. And now, even 2026 doesn’t look promising either.</p>

<p>According to a report from <em>Smartprix</em>, OnePlus has canceled the global launch of the OnePlus Open 2 for 2026. Otherwise, it was scheduled to launch in Q3, 2026.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image td-img-style-shadow"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="914" height="604" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot-2025-06-20-091145.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-693201" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot-2025-06-20-091145.png 914w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot-2025-06-20-091145-300x198.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot-2025-06-20-091145-768x508.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot-2025-06-20-091145-696x460.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot-2025-06-20-091145-636x420.png 636w" sizes="(max-width: 914px) 100vw, 914px" /></figure></div>

<p>The report doesn’t specify why OnePlus pulled the plug, but rising RAM and storage costs may have played a role.</p>

<p>What makes the move especially strange is that the phone had already entered internal testing. Scrapping a product this late in development is unusual, especially for a device that has spent the last two years building hype among foldable fans.</p>

<p>That said, people curious about what the Open 2 could have been may want to look at Oppo’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/01/13/oppo-find-n6-ai-stylus-magnetic-charging-watch-x3-leak/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">upcoming Find N6</a> instead. The OnePlus Open 2 was expected to be based on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/30/oppo-find-n6-specifications-leaked/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oppo’s foldable</a>, following the same shared-hardware strategy OnePlus used for the original Open.</p>

<h2><strong>OnePlus Open 2: expected specs</strong></h2>

<p>The Open 2 was expected to feature an 8.12-inch 2K folding display paired with a 6.6-inch AMOLED cover screen, with both panels running at a smooth 165Hz refresh rate.</p>

<p>Under the hood, the phone would have used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, combined with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large td-img-style-shadow"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="718" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-123-1024x718.png?x44794" alt="OPPO Find N5" class="wp-image-682547" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-123-1024x718.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-123-300x210.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-123-768x539.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-123-696x488.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-123-599x420.png 599w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-123-100x70.png 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-123.png 1055w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>OPPO Find N5</figcaption></figure>

<p>For cameras, OnePlus reportedly planned a triple 50-megapixel rear setup, including ultrawide and telephoto lenses. The phone also featured a 32MP selfie camera on the cover screen and a 20MP camera on the inner display.</p>

<p>There’s apparently a 6000mAh battery, 80W wired and 50W wireless charging support, and the prototype model had a black faux-leather finish and used a chassis design similar to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-x7/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei’s Mate X7</a>.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/oneplus-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OnePlus</a> today confirmed that it will not release a foldable smartphone in 2025, ending all the speculations that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-n5/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oppo Find N5</a> would arrive globally as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus-open-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OnePlus Open 2</a>. </p>

<p>In a post on its community forum, the company stated that it has &#8220;made the decision not to release a foldable this year.&#8221; The announcement comes as a surprise, considering the OnePlus Open was well-received in 2023.</p>

<p>It stood out with a less prominent crease, a refined form factor, and an Open Canvas multitasking interface that was widely appreciated. It also delivered one of the best camera systems in a foldable, all while undercutting competitors like the Galaxy Z Fold and Pixel Fold by at least $300.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Oppo Find N5 ≠ OnePlus Open 2</strong></h2>

<p>Oppo recently announced that the Find N5 would be the world’s thinnest book-style foldable. Given that the original <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-open/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OnePlus Open</a> was a rebranded <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-n3/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oppo Find N3</a>, many expected a similar strategy for its successor. However, OnePlus has now made it clear that no such launch is planned for this year.</p>

<p>Despite this, the company insists that it is not stepping away from foldables entirely. &#8220;Our decision to pause on foldable for this generation does not signify a departure from the category,&#8221; the statement reads. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="689" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/OnePlus-Open-color-variants-e1726808425197-1024x689.jpg?x44794" alt="OnePlus Open" class="wp-image-642750" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/OnePlus-Open-color-variants-e1726808425197-1024x689.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/OnePlus-Open-color-variants-e1726808425197-300x202.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/OnePlus-Open-color-variants-e1726808425197-768x516.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/OnePlus-Open-color-variants-e1726808425197-696x468.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/OnePlus-Open-color-variants-e1726808425197-1068x718.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/OnePlus-Open-color-variants-e1726808425197-625x420.jpg 625w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/OnePlus-Open-color-variants-e1726808425197.jpg 1255w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>OnePlus Open</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>While this leaves the door open for a future OnePlus foldable, there is no timeline for when that might happen. The company describes this move as a &#8220;recalibration,&#8221; but it has not provided further details on why the decision was made.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the Oppo Find N5 is expected to launch globally, including in regions where the OnePlus Open was sold. Unlike previous Oppo foldables, which were largely limited to China, the Find N5 will reach broader markets. OnePlus’s statement could be an effort to prevent its brand from overshadowing Oppo’s latest release.</p>

<p>For existing OnePlus Open users, the company reassures that it will continue support, including &#8220;regular software updates, security patches, and exceptional after-sales service.&#8221;</p>

<p>Okay, so foldable phones are already pretty cool, but <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/oppo-2/">Oppo</a> is about to take things to a whole new level with its upcoming Oppo Find N5. It might be slimmer than Apple’s iPad Pro (M4), which, by the way, is already ridiculously thin at 5.1mm. For more context, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-open/">OnePlus Open</a>/<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-n3/">Oppo Find N3</a> measures 5.8 mm (unfolded) and the Galaxy S25 Edge is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/01/22/samsung-teases-ultra-slim-galaxy-s25-edge/">rumored</a> to measure 6.4 mm.</p>

<h2>Slimmer than the iPad Pro M4</h2>

<p>Oppo’s new foldable could be around 4mm thick when unfolded, making it the thinnest foldable phone in the world. The Honor Magic V3 measures 4.35mm when unfolded.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="456" height="719" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Oppo-Find-N5OnePlus-Open-2-is-thinner-than-the-5.1mm-iPad-Pro-M4.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-670983" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Oppo-Find-N5OnePlus-Open-2-is-thinner-than-the-5.1mm-iPad-Pro-M4.png 456w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Oppo-Find-N5OnePlus-Open-2-is-thinner-than-the-5.1mm-iPad-Pro-M4-190x300.png 190w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Oppo-Find-N5OnePlus-Open-2-is-thinner-than-the-5.1mm-iPad-Pro-M4-266x420.png 266w" sizes="(max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px" /></figure></div>

<p>Oppo’s President of Overseas Marketing, Billy Zhang, recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to tease the Find N5’s slim profile by comparing it to the iPad Pro M4. And this isn’t the first time Oppo has flexed about how thin this thing is. Earlier, they compared it to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is 8.25mm thick. I mean, come on, that’s almost twice as thick! Pete Lau, Oppo’s Chief Product Officer and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/oneplus-2/">OnePlus</a> founder, even called it the “world’s thinnest foldable” in a post. So, yeah, they’re pretty confident about this one.</p>

<p>But all the focus isn&#8217;t actually concentrated on the thickness. This phone packs some serious specs too. According to rumors, it will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. So performance should be top-notch, comparable to the latest flagship bar phones. The display? A 6.85-inch LTPO screen with 2K resolution. The crease has also improved than the Find N3, noted a company official on a Weibo post.</p>

<p>And as for the camera, there’s a triple rear setup with Hasselblad tuning. A previously revealed hands-on image of the phone also shows a less protruding camera than the Find N3.</p>

<p>Despite the thin form factor, the battery is also rumored to be getting a big upgrade to 5,900mAh (up from 4,805mAh in the OnePlus Open). Plus, it’s expected to support 50W wireless charging and might even have an IPX9 rating for water resistance. So, not only is it slim and powerful, but it’s also built to last.</p>

<p><a href="https://wwww.gizmochina.com/category/oppo">Oppo</a> recently confirmed that the much-awaited Oppo Find N5 will debut in China in February. According to the brand, the N5 will arrive as the world’s thinnest foldable phone. This indicates that the company may have worked on reducing the size of the camera bulge. A new leak by tipster Experience More sheds light on the design of the N5’s camera module.</p>

<h3><strong>Oppo Find N5 camera module leak</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="626" height="742" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-68.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-668540" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-68.png 626w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-68-253x300.png 253w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-68-354x420.png 354w" sizes="(max-width: 626px) 100vw, 626px" /><figcaption>Oppo Find N5 camera module design leak</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>According to the tipster, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-n5/">Oppo Find N5’s</a> rear-facing round camera module has a simple layout, somewhat resembling the centred design of the OnePlus 13. The flash is positioned in the bottom-right corner, while the square-shaped periscope telephoto lens is in the top-left corner.</p>

<p>The Find N5’s camera bump is relatively well-controlled, though the slim profile of the device limits how much the protrusion can be reduced. As per reports, the thickness of the Find N5 could be around 8mm in the folded state and 4mm in the unfolded state.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="621" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-69-1024x621.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-668541" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-69-1024x621.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-69-300x182.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-69-768x466.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-69-696x422.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-69-1068x648.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-69-693x420.png 693w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/image-69.png 1392w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>OnePlus 13</figcaption></figure>

<p>The likely reason behind the Find N5’s camera module resembling that of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-13">OnePlus 13</a> is that the Find N5 might be rebranded as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-open-2">OnePlus Open 2</a> in markets like the US, Europe, and India. This suggests that the design of the Open 2 could be inspired by the OnePlus 13, ensuring a consistent design language and familiarity across both devices.</p>

<p>The Oppo Find N5 / Open 2 is expected to arrive with several improvements as compared to the previous generation. The device is expected to arrive with a titanium build, an IPX8 rating for water resistance, a battery of around 6,000mAh capacity, and wireless charging support.</p>

<p>The Find N5 is expected to debut as the world’s first foldable phone powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite">Snapdragon 8 Elite</a> chipset. With competing foldable phones set to arrive in the second half of 2025, it is likely to hold a significant market advantage.</p>

<p>For the past few weeks, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo">Oppo</a> Find Product Manager Zhou Yibao has been <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/12/16/oppo-find-n5-officially-teased-key-specifications-leaked/">consistently teasing</a> details about the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-n5/">Oppo Find N5</a>. Expected to debut in February 2025, it will be the first foldable phone from a well-known brand to launch in 2025. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-n3">Find N3</a> was released in China and some Southeast Asian markets, while other markets like India, Europe, and the US received its rebranded version, the OnePlus Open. Therefore, it is likely that the Open 2 will be released as a rebadged edition of the Find N5. If you&#8217;re on the fence about diving into the world of foldable phones, here are seven compelling reasons why you should wait for the OnePlus Open 2:</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="512" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-leaked-image-1-1024x512.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-666499" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-leaked-image-1-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-leaked-image-1-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-leaked-image-1-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-leaked-image-1-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-leaked-image-1-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-leaked-image-1-840x420.jpg 840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-leaked-image-1.jpg 1456w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>OnePlus Open 2 leaked images</figcaption></figure></div>

<h2><strong>Slimmer and More Refined Design</strong></h2>

<p>Leaks suggest the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-open-2">OnePlus Open 2</a> will be significantly slimmer than the original <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-open">OnePlus Open,</a> measuring under 10mm in thickness in the folded state, potentially becoming one of the thinnest foldable phones available. This refined design could address a common concern about foldable phones: bulkiness. A slimmer profile means the Open 2 could be more comfortable to hold and easier to slip into your pocket.</p>

<h2><strong>Increased Display Size</strong></h2>

<p>Leaks suggest that the OnePlus Open 2 will feature a larger inner display compared to its predecessor, potentially measuring around 8 inches. A larger canvas also enhances productivity, making it easier to work on documents or browse the web. On the outside, it will have a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen. In comparison, the OnePlus Open has a 6.31-inch cover screen and a 7.82-inch inner screen.</p>

<h2><strong>Upgraded Cameras</strong></h2>

<p>While the OnePlus Open had a respectable camera system, the Open 2 is rumored to boast a triple 50MP rear camera setup, likely mirroring the impressive camera system found on the OnePlus 13. The setup will include an OIS-assisted primary camera, an ultra-wide lens, and a 3x periscope telephoto camera. Like other OnePlus flagships, the Open 2 is expected to offer Hasselblad camera optimizations. This could translate to significantly improved image quality, versatility, and low-light performance, making the Open 2 a serious contender in the camera department.</p>

<h2><strong>Boosted Performance</strong></h2>

<p>OnePlus is rumored to skip the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and equip the Open 2 with the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite">Snapdragon 8 Elite</a>. With the powerful chip onboard, the Open 2 is expected to arrive with a significant performance boost and improved power efficiency.</p>

<h2><strong>Larger Battery with Wireless Charging</strong></h2>

<p>Battery life is a crucial factor for any smartphone user. The OnePlus Open 2 is rumored to pack a larger battery than its predecessor. Leaks suggest that it may pack 5,600mAh or 5,900mAh battery. Apart from 80W wired charging, the Open 2 is expected to support 50W wireless charging, a feature that was absent in the original device.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Enhanced Water Resistance</strong></h2>

<p>The original Open lacked robust water resistance with only an IPX4 rating. Leaks indicate the Open 2 will feature an IPX8 rating, putting it on par with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and offering greater peace of mind for users who want to use their phone in various weather conditions or near water. </p>

<h2><strong>Competitive Pricing</strong></h2>

<p> nePlus has a reputation for offering flagship-level features at more competitive prices than its competitors. While the Open 2&#8217;s exact pricing remains unknown, it&#8217;s likely to undercut Samsung and Google&#8217;s foldable offerings, making it a more attractive option for budget-conscious consumers who don&#8217;t want to compromise on features.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While these leaks and rumors paint an exciting picture of the OnePlus Open 2, it&#8217;s important to remember that they are not official confirmations. However, the consistency and credibility of these leaks suggest that OnePlus is poised to deliver a significant upgrade with its next foldable phone.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/oneplus-2/">OnePlus</a> fans have something exciting to look forward to as the OnePlus Open 2, the brand&#8217;s second-generation foldable, is on the horizon. Recently leaked renders of the device provide a first look at its design, revealing notable refinements and upgrades over its predecessor, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-open/">OnePlus Open</a>, which debuted in October 2023. Let’s delve into the details of what’s new and improved in this highly anticipated foldable smartphone.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="728" height="728" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-1-scaled-1.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-666384" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-1-scaled-1.webp 728w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-1-scaled-1-300x300.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-1-scaled-1-150x150.webp 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-1-scaled-1-696x696.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-1-scaled-1-420x420.webp 420w" sizes="(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /></figure>

<h2>OnePlus Open 2 appears to be thinner</h2>

<p>The newly leaked renders, shared by Smartprix in collaboration with Yogesh Brar and Chunvn, showcase a prototype design of the OnePlus Open 2.</p>

<p>Compared to the original OnePlus Open, the Open 2 is <strong>said to be larger yet thinner, with a slim profile of just 10mm</strong>—making it potentially the slimmest foldable phone in its category. For reference, the first-generation OnePlus Open measured 11.7mm thick. This sleek design refinement could position the Open 2 as a leading contender in the foldable segment.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="728" height="728" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-2.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-666385" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-2.webp 728w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-2-300x300.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-2-150x150.webp 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-2-696x696.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/OnePlus-Open-2-2-420x420.webp 420w" sizes="(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /></figure>

<p>Another notable design upgrade is the expected <strong>IPX8 water resistance</strong>, a step up from the IPX4 rating of its predecessor, which will enhance durability and appeal to users seeking a more rugged foldable device.</p>

<h2>What else should you expect?</h2>

<p>The phone could feature an 8-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED inner screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, complemented by a 6.4-inch AMOLED outer display for seamless usage. The Open 2 might ship with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, ensuring ample space and multitasking capabilities.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/24/snapdragon-8-elite-vs-snapdragon-8-gen-3/">vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 3</a>) SoC, marking a significant performance upgrade over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the OnePlus Open. OnePlus offered some impressive multitasking features with the first-generation phone to offer the best possible user experience. The Open 2 will run <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/28/oxygenos-15-top-features-that-redefine-oneplus-experience/">OxygenOS 15</a> based on Android 15, likely featuring even more refined multitasking and AI-powered functionalities.</p>

<p>The rear camera setup is expected to house three 50MP sensors (main, ultrawide, and telephoto with 3x optical zoom), while the front cameras could include 32MP and 20MP sensors.</p>

<p>A larger 5,900mAh battery with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging will ensure improved battery life and faster charging.</p>

<p>The OnePlus Open 2 is rumored to debut in China in early 2025, with a global release expected within Q1 2025. Given the OnePlus Open’s availability in India, the Open 2 is also likely to launch there.</p>

<p>As 2024 ends soon, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/oppo">Oppo</a> is set to be busy right from the start of 2025. While the brand prepares to launch the Reno 13 series globally, the Chinese market is expected to see multiple device releases, including the Oppo Find N5, Find X8 Ultra, and Find X8 Mini. A recent Weibo post by Oppo’s Find Product Manager, Zhou Yibao, has revealed the launch sequence for the Find N5 and X8 Ultra.</p>

<h3><strong>Oppo Find N5, Find X8 Ultra launch timeframe and key details</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="975" height="203" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-121.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-665599" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-121.png 975w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-121-300x62.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-121-768x160.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-121-696x145.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 975px) 100vw, 975px" /></figure></div>

<p>As can be seen above, Zhou Yibao responded to a query on Weibo about the launch timeframe of upcoming devices. When asked whether the Find X8 Ultra would be released in January, Zhou indicated that the company plans to first launch the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-n5/">Find N5</a> foldable phone</p>

<p>He reassured that the Find X8 Ultra will follow and promised that both devices will be impressive. However, he did not mention the X8 Mini, which is expected to have the smallest screen in the X8 series. The X8 Mini will likely launch alongside the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-x8-ultra">X8 Ultra</a> or within a few weeks of its release.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="979" height="440" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-122.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-665600" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-122.png 979w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-122-300x135.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-122-768x345.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-122-696x313.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-122-935x420.png 935w" sizes="(max-width: 979px) 100vw, 979px" /></figure></div>

<p>Meanwhile, tipster Smart Pikachu has shared intriguing details about the Find N5. According to the leak, the device will feature a large foldable screen with support for 2K+ resolution, providing users with an impressive visual experience. As per <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/08/oppo-find-n5-aka-oneplus-open-2-launch-timeframe-tipped-in-new-leak/">other reports</a>, the Find N5 may launch as the world’s first foldable phone powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite">Snapdragon 8 Elite</a> chipset.</p>

<p>Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the phone&#8217;s 50-megapixel Sony <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/28/oppo-find-n5-oneplus-open-2-leak-reveals-bigger-screen-triple-50mp-cameras-5700mah-battery-and-more/">triple camera setup</a>, which includes a single periscope lens for enhanced zoom capabilities. In terms of design, the Find N5 is expected to be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-n3">Find N3</a>. Additionally, the phone will benefit from structural reinforcement and waterproofing, adding to its durability and user appeal. These details align with previous leaks and provide no new surprises.</p>

<p>As far as the launch timeframe is concerned, the leak claims that the Find N5 will be released after the Chinese New Year 2025. This suggests that the Find N5 may break cover in February 2025. Globally, the N5 is expected to get rebranded as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-open-2">OnePlus Open 2</a>.</p>

<p>After taking a break this year, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/oppo-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oppo </a>is expected to launch its new foldable, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-n5/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Find N5</a>, in China in 2025. Globally, the device will debut as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-open-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OnePlus Open 2</a>. Although details were scarce before, new leaks are starting to reveal more.</p>

<p>Similarly, in a recent leak, Weibo tipster <em>Smart Pikachu</em> shared some phone specs, along with its expected launch timeframe.</p>

<h2><strong>Oppo Find N5 / OnePlus Open 2 launches on…</strong></h2>

<p>The insider reports that Oppo is planning to launch the Find N5 in the first half of 2025. That is between January and June. The device will likely feature a 50MP triple rear camera setup and run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.&nbsp;</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="323" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Oppo-Find-N5-launch-specs.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-659231" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Oppo-Find-N5-launch-specs.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Oppo-Find-N5-launch-specs-300x108.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Oppo-Find-N5-launch-specs-768x276.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Oppo-Find-N5-launch-specs-696x250.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>The foldable is also expected to be slim and lightweight, with a metal frame and support for wireless magnetic charging. Oppo even hinted at this wireless charging capability for the Find N5 in a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/29/oppo-releases-video-to-demo-find-x8-series-magnetic-wireless-charging-find-n5-may-support-wireless-charging/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">subtle video teaser </a>for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-x8/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Find X8</a> back in September.</p>

<p>Notably, the tipster claims the foldable will be compatible with Apple’s ecosystem. That likely refers to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/28/oxygenos-15-top-features-that-redefine-oneplus-experience/#:~:text=Share%20with%20iPhone&amp;text=The%20iOS%20device%20needs%20to,the%20OnePlus%20device's%20Wi%2DFi." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&#8220;Share with iPhone&#8221; feature </a>that Oppo and OnePlus introduced with their Android 15 skin. </p>

<p>This feature allows seamless sharing of photos, videos, and other files between an Android phone and an iPhone, though it requires an app to be installed on the iPhone.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="827" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/F8USEuCaoAAMOOo-827x1024.jpeg?x44794" alt="OnePlus Open" class="wp-image-575005" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/F8USEuCaoAAMOOo-827x1024.jpeg 827w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/F8USEuCaoAAMOOo-242x300.jpeg 242w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/F8USEuCaoAAMOOo-768x951.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/F8USEuCaoAAMOOo-324x400.jpeg 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/F8USEuCaoAAMOOo-696x862.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/F8USEuCaoAAMOOo-1068x1322.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/F8USEuCaoAAMOOo-339x420.jpeg 339w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/F8USEuCaoAAMOOo.jpeg 1160w" sizes="(max-width: 827px) 100vw, 827px" /></figure></div>

<p>According to a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/28/oppo-find-n5-oneplus-open-2-leak-reveals-bigger-screen-triple-50mp-cameras-5700mah-battery-and-more/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">previous report</a>, the Find N5 will feature a dual-cell battery configuration (2,460mAh + 3,105mAh), providing a rated capacity of 5,565mAh, with a typical capacity of around 5,700mAh.</p>

<p>The phone’s camera setup is expected to include a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, all within a slim 9mm body.</p>

<p>The Oppo Find N3 (aka the OnePlus Open) received widespread praise for its hardware and software quality, and the brands are expected to deliver similar excellence with their next foldable, especially after taking a year-long break. We’ll see what innovations they bring next.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo">Oppo</a> has just launched the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-x8/">Find X8</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-x8-pro">Find X8 Pro</a> smartphones in China. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/10/oppo-find-n5-find-x8-ultra-find-x8-find-x8-pro-global-launch-timeframe/">In Q1 2025</a>, the brand is expected to unveil the Find X8 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Elite in the home market. Apart from the X8 Ultra, the brand is also expected to announce the Oppo Find N5 foldable phone in the same quarter. The following Weibo post released by tipster Digital Chat Station spills new details about the N5.</p>

<h3><strong>Oppo Find N5’s new details emerge</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="845" height="289" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image-113.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-657062" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image-113.png 845w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image-113-300x103.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image-113-768x263.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/image-113-696x238.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 845px) 100vw, 845px" /></figure></div>

<p>According to the tipster, the general design of the Oppo Find N5’s engineering prototype is similar to the previous generation, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-n3/">Find N3</a>. Therefore, it continues to sport a large circular camera module on the back. The tipster revealed that the Find N5’s screen size has been increased, but he did not reveal the exact size. A previous leak by the same source revealed that the device’s internal screen <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/04/oppo-find-n5-leak-reveals-launch-timeframe-snapdragon-8-gen-4-chip-display-camera-details-and-more/">will support a 2K+ resolution</a>.</p>

<p>Under the hood, the Oppo Find N5 will feature the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite">Snapdragon 8 Elite</a> chip, and reports suggest it could debut as the world’s first foldable phone powered by this chipset. While its predecessor housed a 4,805mAh battery, the N5 is expected to deliver a notable upgrade with a dual-cell battery configuration (2,460mAh + 3,105mAh) that offers a rated capacity of 5,565mAh. The typical battery capacity could be around 5,700mAh.</p>

<p>There is currently no confirmed information on the device’s wired charging capabilities, though it is rumored to support wireless charging. Oppo has even teased that the N5 will include<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/29/oppo-releases-video-to-demo-find-x8-series-magnetic-wireless-charging-find-n5-may-support-wireless-charging/"> magnetic wireless charging</a>.</p>

<p>For photography, the N5 will sport a Hasselblad-optimized triple camera system featuring a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. A key highlight of the Find N5 is its slimness, measuring around 9.x mm in the folded state, as per a previous leak by DCS. To maintain this sleek profile, the company will incorporate a custom-made slim USB-C port.</p>

<p>Speculation suggests that the Find N5 might be rebranded as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/20/what-to-expect-from-oppo-find-n5-oneplus-open-2/">OnePlus Open 2</a> in select markets such as India, Europe, and the US, though no concrete details are available regarding its launch timeline.</p>

<p>Foldable phones are rapidly evolving, with 2025 set to bring some of the most innovative and advanced models to date. Advancements in hinge design, display technology, and software optimization are converging to create a new generation of foldables that are more durable, powerful, and user-friendly than ever before.</p>

<p>As the competition intensifies, major players like Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and others are gearing up to release cutting-edge foldable devices that could redefine the smartphone market. Here&#8217;s a look at the top five foldable phones to watch in 2025.</p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate X6</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="914" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/huawei-mate-x5-violet@2x-914x1024.webp?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate X5" class="wp-image-626442" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/huawei-mate-x5-violet@2x-914x1024.webp 914w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/huawei-mate-x5-violet@2x-268x300.webp 268w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/huawei-mate-x5-violet@2x-768x860.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/huawei-mate-x5-violet@2x-696x780.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/huawei-mate-x5-violet@2x-375x420.webp 375w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/huawei-mate-x5-violet@2x.webp 1000w" sizes="(max-width: 914px) 100vw, 914px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate X5</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The Huawei Mate X6 is expected to debut in November 2024 in China. It may hit the global markets in 2025. Unfortunately, there is no concrete information about the X6’s specifications. However, since the brand recently launched the Mate XT, the world&#8217;s first tri-foldable smartphone, the Mate X6 is expected to receive a lot of attention from phone enthusiasts worldwide.</p>

<p>According to a recent Weibo <a href="https://weibo.com/6048569942/OyUbjqz7G">post</a> by reliable leaker Digital Chat Station, the supply chain for the Huawei Mate X6 is ramping up, indicating increased production orders. This suggests that Huawei is strengthening its position in the high-end, 10,000 Yuan+ (~$1,415) smartphone market. The Mate X6 is expected to be <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/19/nova-13-series-mate-70-series-and-mate-x6-foldable-launch-timeframe-tipped/">released around November</a>, and there are no competing products anticipated to launch at the same time. The only potential competition is a foldable device (likely the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/07/23/oppo-find-n4-oneplus-open-2-launch-timeframe-chipset-battery-size-tipped/">Oppo Find N5</a>) powered by the Qualcomm SM8750, which is expected to be released in Q1 of next year, with most other foldables following in Q2 or Q3.</p>

<h2><strong>Oppo Find N5 &nbsp;</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="558" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-1024x558.jpg?x44794" alt="Oppo Find N3" class="wp-image-651130" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-1024x558.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-300x163.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-768x418.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-1536x837.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-2048x1116.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-696x379.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-1068x582.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-1920x1046.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-771x420.jpg 771w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Oppo Find N3</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Oppo is reportedly working on the successor to last year’s Oppo Find N3 foldable phone. As per reports, the company may adopt the Oppo Find N5 for its next foldable phone, possibly avoiding the number &#8220;4&#8221; due to cultural superstitions in Asia, and may be branded as the Find N5 instead of the Find N4. It is expected to debut in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/05/22/oppo-find-n5-oppo-pad-3-launch-timeline/">the first quarter of 2025</a>.</p>

<p>The Find N5 is anticipated to be one of the first foldable phones powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite">Snapdragon 8 Elite</a> (aka. Snapdragon 8 Gen 4). It will likely feature a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/04/oppo-find-n5-leak-reveals-launch-timeframe-snapdragon-8-gen-4-chip-display-camera-details-and-more/">2K+ resolution screen</a>, a 50-megapixel Sony triple camera with a periscope lens, and a 6,000mAh battery, marking a significant improvement from its predecessor&#8217;s 4,800mAh battery. The device will boast a thinner, lighter design with enhanced durability and some level of waterproofing, running ColorOS 15 based on Android 15 in China. The device is also expected to have <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/29/oppo-releases-video-to-demo-find-x8-series-magnetic-wireless-charging-find-n5-may-support-wireless-charging/">wireless charging</a>.</p>

<h2><strong>OnePlus Open 2</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="828" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1.jpg?x44794" alt="OnePlus Open" class="wp-image-576379" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1-300x276.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1-768x707.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1-696x640.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1-457x420.jpg 457w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption>OnePlus Open</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>This Find N5 is expected to launch in China and other Southeast Asian markets, while it could be rebranded as the OnePlus Open 2 in regions like India and the US. The specifics about its availability in Europe remain unclear.</p>

<h2><strong>Vivo X Fold 4</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Vivo-X-Fold-3-Pro-1-1024x640.png?x44794" alt="Vivo X Fold 3 Pro" class="wp-image-630179" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Vivo-X-Fold-3-Pro-1-1024x640.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Vivo-X-Fold-3-Pro-1-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Vivo-X-Fold-3-Pro-1-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Vivo-X-Fold-3-Pro-1-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Vivo-X-Fold-3-Pro-1-1068x668.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Vivo-X-Fold-3-Pro-1-672x420.png 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Vivo-X-Fold-3-Pro-1.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Vivo X Fold 3 Pro</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Our <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/30/exclusive-vivo-already-developing-vivo-x-fold4/">recent report</a> revealed an upcoming Vivo device with model number V2429 will debut in the market as the Vivo X Fold 4. According to recent leaks, it will be one of the first foldable phones to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite (aka Snapdragon 8 Gen 4) chipset. The device is anticipated to feature a circular camera module on the back, comprising a triple camera setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor and a periscope telephoto lens.</p>

<p>The Vivo X Fold 4 will sport a silicon battery with an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/26/vivo-x-fold-4-key-specifications-leaked/">approximate capacity of 6,000mAh</a> and will support wireless charging. It will also boast an IPX8 water resistance rating. When folded, the phone will have a thickness of about 8.x mm, and the fibreglass variant will weigh around 21x grams. As far as the launch is concerned, it is expected to break cover as in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/17/vivo-x-fold-4-oppo-find-n5-chipset-launch-timeframe-tipped/">Q1 or Q2 2025</a>.</p>

<p>The existing X Fold 3 series includes two models, such as the Vivo X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro, that are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3 chipsets, respectively. While the existence of the X Fold 4 has been confirmed, there is no clarity whether there will be a Pro variant. &nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-1024x768.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6" class="wp-image-638878" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-1920x1440.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/20240710_152213-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Samsung has been launching foldable phones since 2019. The brand, which is currently leading the foldable smartphone market, is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in July 2025. At present, it is too early for the rumor mill to leak concrete details about it.</p>

<p>Considering that the Galaxy Z Fold 6&#8217;s design closely resembles its predecessors, Samsung may introduce the Z Fold 7 with a new design. With competing brands offering top-notch cameras on their foldable phones, it is likely that the Z Fold 7 will come with an improved set of cameras. The previous iterations from the Z Fold 3 to the Z Fold 6 have featured a 4,400mAh battery. Hopefully, the Z Fold 7 will arrive with an increased battery size.</p>

<p>Launched in October 2023, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-n3">Oppo Find N3</a> and its rebranded version, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-open/">OnePlus Open</a>, faced criticism for falling short of expectations. Despite Qualcomm&#8217;s unveiling of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 later that month, both foldable phones, equipped with the previous-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, felt a year behind flagship standards. Reports indicate that the upcoming Find N5/OOnePlus Open 2 will be among the first foldable devices to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.&nbsp; Here’s a look at what’s been revealed about the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo">Oppo</a> / <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus">OnePlus</a> foldable so far.</p>

<h2><strong>Oppo Find N5 moniker and rebranding</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="558" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-1024x558.jpg?x44794" alt="Oppo Find N3" class="wp-image-651130" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-1024x558.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-300x163.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-768x418.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-1536x837.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-2048x1116.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-696x379.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-1068x582.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-1920x1046.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Oppo-Find-N3-771x420.jpg 771w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Oppo Find N3</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>There is currently no clarity regarding the name of Oppo’s next foldable phone. Given that the number “4” is considered unlucky in several Asian cultures, the company may opt to name its upcoming device the Find N5 instead of the Find N4. The N5 is expected to be released in countries like China and some Southeast Asian markets, while it may be rebranded as the OnePlus Open (OnePlus’ first foldable phone) in regions such as India and the US.</p>

<p>Therefore, it is likely that the Find N5 will launch in China and other Asian markets, potentially becoming the OnePlus Open 2 in India and the US. At present, there is no clear information about whether the Oppo/OnePlus devices will be available in European markets.</p>

<p>Oppo is yet to confirm the existence of the Find N5. The brand is reportedly focused on launching the Find X8 series, which is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/19/oppo-confirms-coloros-15-launch-date-find-x8-series-tipped-to-debut-on-october-21/">expected to take place on Oct. 21</a>. Official details about the Find N5 may emerge in December, with rumors likely surfacing a couple of weeks prior to the announcement. As anticipation builds, consumers are eager to see how Oppo will navigate the challenges of naming and marketing its next foldable offering.</p>

<p>The Oppo Find N5 is anticipated to debut as one of the first foldable phones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. It is expected to launch around the same time as the Vivo X Fold 4 or X Fold 4 Pro, which will also feature the SD8G4 chip.</p>

<p>Many upcoming flagship phones, including the Vivo X200 series, Oppo Find X8 series, Xiaomi 15 lineup, OnePlus 13, iQOO 13, and Honor Magic 7 series, are expected to pack batteries around 6,000mAh. While the Find N3 / OnePlus Open featured a 4,800mAh battery, the Find N5 and its rebranded counterpart are likely to include a 6,000mAh battery, promising significantly longer battery life.</p>

The device will have a prominent round camera module on the back, housing three cameras, including a 50-megapixel Sony lens supported by a large sensor and a periscope telephoto camera.</p>

<p>The Find N5 is expected to be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, measuring around 9.x mm in thickness when folded. It will feature a more durable construction and some level of waterproofing. Like other high-end Oppo and OnePlus phones, the N5 will also include an alert slider. It is expected to come preloaded with ColorOS 15 based on Android 15 in China, while the Open 2 is likely to run on Android 15 with OxygenOS 15 on top for global markets.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/07/23/oppo-find-n4-oneplus-open-2-launch-timeframe-chipset-battery-size-tipped/">Several reports</a> have claimed that the Oppo Find N5 will launch in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/05/22/oppo-find-n5-oppo-pad-3-launch-timeline/">first quarter of 2025</a>. In China, the device is expected to face competition from the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/17/vivo-x-fold-4-oppo-find-n5-chipset-launch-timeframe-tipped/">Vivo X Fold 4 / 4 Pro</a>, which is expected to break cover in the same time period. As far as the global market is concerned, the OnePlus Open 2 is also expected to debut by Q1 2025.</p>

<p>The foldable phone market has really heated up in 2024.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Samsung</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/motorola/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Motorola</a> have released new versions of their foldable, refining hinge designs and addressing durability concerns.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Chinese brands like<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/vivo/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Vivo</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/honor/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Honor</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/xiaomi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi </a>are pushing the boundaries by creating slimmer, more portable foldables without sacrificing flagship features. However, two major players, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/oneplus-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OnePlus </a>and its parent company <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/oppo-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oppo</a>, are notably absent from the foldable frenzy this year.</p>

<p>Oppo entered the foldable market in 2021 with the Find N, a book-style device similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. In 2022, they launched their first flip phone, the Find N2 Flip, and the original Find N successor, the Find N2. Both models were updated in 2023 as the Find N3 Flip and Find N3, respectively. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/719QmmyMLYL._SL1500_-1024x1024.jpg?x44794" alt="" /><figcaption>OnePlus Open</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>OnePlus, leveraging its relationship with Oppo, launched the global version of the Find N3 as the OnePlus Open in 2023, marking its official entry into the foldable market.</p>

<p>As essentially the third iteration of Oppo&#8217;s foldable, the OnePlus Open received praise for its strong hardware and refined software experience. However, there has been no official announcement about a successor—the OnePlus Open 2—or any new foldable plans from Oppo for 2024.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Unless you&#8217;ve been closely following tech news, it’s unlikely that a OnePlus Open 2 or Oppo Find N5 will launch in 2024. Here’s what we know about the matter so far.&nbsp;</p>

<h3><strong>Why the OnePlus Open 2 and Oppo Find N5 Will Not Be Released in 2024</strong></h3>

<p>The rumor about the Find N5 not launching this year started with a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/02/22/oppo-reportedly-cancels-find-n5-flip-and-delays-find-n5-launch/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">leak in February</a>. This was later corroborated by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/05/22/oppo-find-n5-oppo-pad-3-launch-timeline/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">another leak </a>in May from the usually reliable tipster Digital Chat Station. </p>

<p>Since the OnePlus Open 2 is expected to be a rebranded version of the Find N5 for the global market, this means there will be no new entry in OnePlus&#8217;s foldable lineup for 2024 either. That is not to imply that Oppo or OnePlus are parting ways from the foldable scene; rather rumors suggest the brands will launch their new foldable in 2025. </p>

<p>Although details are scarce about the reasons behind the delay, the Chinese tech giants are likely focusing on making significant upgrades to their upcoming foldable. These improvements could include a lighter, more refined hinge mechanism, and a thinner overall design.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1.jpg?x44794" alt="" /><figcaption>OnePlus Open</figcaption></figure>

<p>The foldable market is still in its early stages, with manufacturers continually refining designs and addressing challenges like durability and user experience.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/honor-magic-v3/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Honor Magic V3</a>, for instance, has set a high bar for slimness and performance. It is the world’s slimmest foldable, yet have all the top-of-the-line features you would expect from a flagship phone — including a 5,150mAh battery that supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.</p>

<p>Given this fierce competition, a delay from OnePlus and Oppo could be a strategic decision to avoid rushing a product that might struggle to compete in the market.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Regarding the expected launch, rumors from China suggest that the Oppo Find N5 will debut in Q1 2025 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. Consequently, the global release of the OnePlus Open 2 is likely to follow in the second quarter of 2025, as it typically takes 2 to 3 months for a Chinese product to launch internationally.</p>

<h3><strong>Find N5 Flip delayed or canceled?</strong></h3>

<p>It&#8217;s not just the book-style foldable that&#8217;s facing delays from Oppo. The Find N5 Flip, which was expected to be the successor to the Find N3 Flip, has also experienced a delay. In fact, some reports suggest that Oppo might have canceled the Find N5 Flip altogether.</p>

<p>While there isn&#8217;t strong evidence to confirm this, the research firm<em> TrendForce</em> <a href="https://www.trendforce.com/presscenter/news/20240221-12033.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">reports </a>that alongside Oppo, Vivo also has no plans to release a flip phone in 2024. Vivo has already launched its foldables for the year—the X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro—without mentioning any flip models.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Oppo-Find-N3-Flip-Review-08-1024x768.jpg?x44794" alt="" /><figcaption>Oppo Find N3 Flip</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>According to the firm, the high cost of clamshell vertical foldable phones is impacting the profitability of these Chinese brands. Oppo Find N3 Flip was the best-selling clamshell foldable in China in 2023, but the financial pressures might lead the company to reconsider its flip phone offerings.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This is similar to how Apple discontinued the iPhone Mini series in favor of the Plus line with the iPhone 14. Oppo&#8217;s flip phone could face a similar fate if profitability concerns persist.</p>

<h3><strong>New OnePlus Open Apex Edition</strong></h3>

<p>While there&#8217;s been no official word from OnePlus or Oppo about a new foldable, OnePlus did launch a new version of the OnePlus Open, called the Apex Edition, earlier this week.</p>

<p>It shares the same internal specs as the original Open but features a premium vegan leather back cover in a gorgeous Crimson Red color. The alert slider has also been accented in red to complement the new design.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/OnePlus-Open-Apex-Edition.jpg?x44794" alt="" /></figure></div>

<p>Beyond aesthetics, the Apex Edition introduces a &#8220;VIP Mode&#8221; which can be activated via the alert slider. When enabled, this mode disables the camera and microphone, restricts app tracking, and shows a special splash screen along with a customized always-on display to ensure you’re aware that VIP Mode is active.</p>

<p>I’m not sure if this level of protection is necessary on a consumer device, but OnePlus included it anyway to make the Apex Edition stand out from its regular sibling.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The new design and features come at a price of Rs 149,999 in India. It’s available in a sole 16GB RAM and 1TB storage variant. If you’re wondering, the regular OnePlus Open with a 16GB/512GB configuration costs Rs 139,999 in India.</p>

<h3><strong>Latest Foldable Alternatives </strong></h3>

<p>If you&#8217;re looking to try out a new foldable in 2024 with the latest hardware, there are some solid options available. While the global market isn&#8217;t as crowded as the Chinese one—since brands like Vivo and Xiaomi have yet to release their foldables globally—there are still exciting choices.</p>

<p>Honor is set to launch the Magic V3 globally soon, so that’s one to watch. Samsung offers the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Google is gearing up to release the Pixel 9 Pro Fold at their event next week. These are great alternatives if you’re interested in a book-style foldable. If you prefer something more pocketable, Samsung&#8217;s Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Motorola&#8217;s Razr 2024 are worth considering.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo">Oppo</a> is reportedly working on its fourth-generation foldable phone, the Oppo Find N4, for the Chinese market. To recall, the Find N3, which debuted last year, remained exclusive to China, whereas the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus">OnePlus</a> Open was launched as its rebranded version for the global market. Therefore, it is probable that the international market will rebrand the N4 as the OnePlus Open 2. A new leak, courtesy of tipster Digital Chat Station, has revealed the launch timeframe of the Find N4 / Open 2.</p>

<h3><strong>Oppo Find N4 / OnePlus Open 2 key details (rumored)</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-style-default"><img loading="lazy" width="965" height="266" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/image-103.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-640460" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/image-103.png 965w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/image-103-300x83.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/image-103-768x212.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/image-103-696x192.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 965px) 100vw, 965px" /></figure>

<p>In the above-shown Weibo post, DCS claimed that Huawei is working on a tri-foldable smartphone equipped with the Kirin 9-series chipset. It will have a dual hinge and several new technologies. However, there is no clarity about the launch timeframe of the device.</p>

<p>Next, he appears to be hinting at the impending release of Oppo and Vivo&#8217;s next-generation foldable phones. These devices, which are likely to be called the Find N4 and Vivo X Fold 4 / Pro, will break cover in the first quarter of 2025. This suggests that the OnePlus Open 2 may also debut around the same time globally.</p>

<p>DCS revealed that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-gen-4">Snapdragon 8 Gen 4</a> chipset will power these devices. He added that despite housing a battery of around 6,000mAh capacity, these devices will have a thin profile. Unfortunately, he did not share anything else about these devices.</p>

<p>In related news, Huawei is currently working on the Nova 13 series of smartphones and the Nova Flip foldable phone, which may debut in August in China. Oppo is reportedly developing the Find X8 and X8 Pro, which will debut with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/dimensity-9400">Dimensity 9400</a> chip later this year. Vivo’s X200 and X200 Pro, equipped with the Dimensity 9400, are expected to launch in China in October of this year.</p>

<p>While the foldable phone market continues to heat up with rumors of next-generation devices from Samsung, Motorola, and others, fans of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OnePlus</a> might be disappointed. According to reliable tipsters, the OnePlus Open 2 won&#8217;t be arriving this year.</p>

<p>The follow-up to the well-received first-gen OnePlus Open is now expected to launch sometime in 2025. This news comes as a blow to those hoping for a 2024 release, and the Open 2 is rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Scheduled for next year instead, uses 8 Gen 4</p>&mdash; Chun Bhai (@chunvn8888) <a href="https://twitter.com/chunvn8888/status/1789148176378974628?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 11, 2024</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p>Details about the 8 Gen 4 itself are scarce, with an official announcement likely happening later this year (October-November 2024). The first phones featuring this chip might hit the market as early as December, particularly in China.</p>

<p>The global launch timeframe for most Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 devices remains unclear, and whether the Open 2 falls into that category is unknown.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="828" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1.jpg?x44794" alt="OnePlus Open" class="wp-image-576379" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1-300x276.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1-768x707.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1-696x640.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OnePlus-Open-1-457x420.jpg 457w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>In essence, there&#8217;s very little concrete information about the OnePlus Open 2 at this point. The lack of details is likely to persist for some time. Historically, OnePlus has rebranded Oppo&#8217;s foldable phones for the global market.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Following this trend, the Open 2 is expected to be the rebrand of the Oppo Find N5 – similar to how the original Open mirrored the Oppo Find N3 released last year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the leaked details may ring true, especially considering previous rumors that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/02/22/oppo-reportedly-cancels-find-n5-flip-and-delays-find-n5-launch/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oppo delayed the launch of the Find N5</a> until 2025. Given that the Open 2 is expected to be a rebrand, it&#8217;s not surprising that it won&#8217;t arrive until 2025.</p>
