OnePlus has already begun developing its next major software upgrade, OxygenOS 17, which will be based on Android 17. The update will be rolled out to over a dozen eligible devices later this year (check the full list here), but for a few of them, this will be the last major upgrade.

The OnePlus Open was released in late 2023 with Android 13-based OxygenOS 13 out of the box, with a promise to receive four major Android upgrades. So far, OnePlus has released three OS updates for the device, and it’s also eligible for Android 17, but unfortunately, that would be the last major update.

2. OnePlus 12R

• Launched OS: Android 14
• Software support: up to 3 major OS upgrades
• Last OS update: Android 17

The OnePlus 12R launched in January 2024 with Android 14 pre-installed. The company promises three major upgrades for the device, and as a result, it will receive Android 17 as its final OS update.

3. OnePlus 11

• Launched OS: Android 13
• Software support: up to 4 major OS upgrades
• Last OS update: Android 17

The OnePlus 11 guarantees four major OS upgrades. Since it was launched with Android 13, the upcoming Android 17 upgrade would be the final one.

4. OnePlus Pad 2

• Launched OS: Android 14
• Software support: up to 3 major OS upgrades
• Last OS update: Android 17

The OnePlus Pad 2 also joins the list as it was launched with Android 14 and guarantees only three major OS upgrades, which end with Android 17.

These four OnePlus devices will receive their last major OS upgrade, Android 17, later this year or early next year. After that, they would become ineligible for major upgrades, although the devices will continue to receive security updates for a while.

OnePlus is rolling out OxygenOS 16.0.1.301 for the OnePlus Pad 2 in India, Europe, and global markets. The update is going out in stages to a small group of users first, with a wider release planned in the coming days. It is worth noting that this update is only accessible if your device is running to the Android 16-based OxygenOS 16, which launched last month for the Pad 2.

The build number is OPD2403_16.0.1.301(EX01) for IN/EU/GLO regions. Users can now resize the clock when editing certain Flux themes and customize widget names for more home screen personalization. The Photos app adds automatic straightening when cropping and rotating portrait and architectural pictures.

Phone Manager now scans for viruses faster. The Daily weather widget displays rainy weather warnings, and the update includes the November 2025 Android security patch to improve system security.

Eligibility and Rollout

As previously mentioned, this update only works for OnePlus Pad 2 owners already running OxygenOS 16. If you’re still on OxygenOS 15, you need to upgrade to OxygenOS 16 first before you can install this build.

OnePlus is using its standard incremental rollout process. A small percentage of users will get the update today, and the company will monitor how it performs before expanding to more devices over the next few days.

OnePlus has started rolling out OxygenOS 16 for the OnePlus Pad 2 and Pad 3 in India. The update runs on Android 16 and will reach other regions soon. The Pad 2 gets build number OPD2403_16.0.0.202(EX01), while the Pad 3 receives OPD2415_16.0.0.211(EX01).

Faster System Performance

The update makes animations, scrolling, and touch response smoother. You can now drag and drop icons, widgets, folders, and the Smart Sidebar more easily. The text selection magnifier fades in and out cleanly. Opening the notification drawer or Quick Settings no longer causes jarring status bar transitions. Audio controls in Quick Settings animate better. The new swipe-back gesture shows you the previous page as you swipe and lets you stop mid-action. App launches and exits look more consistent, and scrolling follows your finger more accurately.

Trinity Engine Improvements

The Trinity Engine now handles power and performance automatically during gaming, video playback, and multitasking. Apps open faster, photo albums load quicker while using less battery, and video previews run smoother in supported apps. Power Saving Mode adjusts performance based on how much battery you have left.

New AI Tools

The Photos app has a cleaner layout with better navigation and album sorting. Video editing now includes trimming, transitions, speed adjustment, and background music. You can turn motion photos into slow-motion clips. AI Portrait Glow fixes lighting in tough conditions. Notes supports block editing, text highlighting, and quick formatting with fonts and colors. The Recorder app removes background noise, detects whether you’re in a meeting or lecture, and lets you share audio files and transcripts. AI Writer creates summaries, speeches, posts, or notes with tone options and proofreading.

Interface Changes

Flux Home screen adds redesigned icons, organized grids, and resizable icons with large folder options. Flux themes include motion wallpapers like Sublime Grandeur and custom Lock screen text. The One Serif font makes text easier to read. Apps like Clock, Calculator, and Compass look more realistic.

Better Connectivity

OnePlus Connect now shares clipboard content between devices. My Devices in Quick Settings controls connected gadgets, with new widgets for easier management. Wi-Fi works better in weak signal areas. Floating windows support two apps simultaneously. Quick Settings gets customizable 2×1 tiles for brightness, audio, and device controls.

OnePlus’ latest launch event wasn’t just about phones. Alongside the OnePlus 15 and Ace 6, the company also unveiled the OnePlus Pad 2 for the Chinese market.

Before we get into the details, there’s one thing to clear up. OnePlus’ tablet naming scheme differs internationally and in the mainland. 

Globally, the company has already launched the OnePlus Pad 3 with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. It’s the successor to 2024’s Pad 2 that comes with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. 

This means the China branding is technically a generation behind. Still, the Pad 2’s hardware lines up with what you’d expect from a premium 2025 tablet.

OnePlus Pad 2 Specifications

The OnePlus Pad 2 features a 12.1-inch 3K display (3000 × 2120) with a 144Hz dynamic refresh rate, a 540Hz touch sampling rate, and 900 nits of peak brightness. OnePlus claims it can push 144fps in select mobile titles.

Powering the device is the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+, a flagship-tier chip with an AnTuTu score of over 3.05 million, paired with an ultra-large vapor-cooling system covering more than 46,000mm².

Despite the horsepower, the tablet remains slim at 5.99mm and weighs just 579 grams.

On the software side, it runs ColorOS 16, which includes a few additions for gamers and students alike. A new “Game Camera” feature lets users capture ultra-clear Live Photo screenshots or replay up to 30 seconds of gameplay. 

For note-takers, the OS brings handwriting beautification and intelligent content extraction tools to improve the experience during online classes. The Pad 2 also supports a panoramic virtual screen mode that can open three apps side-by-side, along with two additional floating windows.

Inside, there’s a 10,420mAh battery with 67W SuperVOOC charging, and OnePlus claims the system is optimized for “five years of lasting smoothness.” The tablet also supports PC-level WPS Office, multi-window workflows, and even custom font installations.

Price and Availability

The OnePlus Pad 2 starts at 2,799 yuan (≈ $380) for the 8GB + 256GB model, with 12GB + 256GB and 16GB + 512GB variants priced at 3,099 yuan and 3,599 yuan, respectively.

Open sales begin on October 30, and early buyers will receive a one-year screen protection plan worth 249 yuan at no additional cost. Meanwhile, students can claim a free stylus worth 399 yuan during the pre-sale period.

OnePlus Pad 2 specifications: What to expect?

As per a leak that surfaced in September, the OnePlus Pad 2 will reportedly be a rebranded version of the Oppo Pad 5, which recently debuted in China. The only noticeable difference is said to be that the OnePlus model will be available in two colours – Azure and Dark Gray, while the Oppo Pad 5 is offered in purple, grey, and silver shades. As seen in the official teaser poster, the design of the OnePlus Pad 2 looks identical to Oppo’s tablet.

The OnePlus Pad 2 is expected to feature a 12.1-inch LCD display with a 3K resolution (3000 x 2120 pixels), a 7:5 aspect ratio, and a 144Hz refresh rate. The tablet will run a tablet-optimised version of ColorOS 16-based Android 16.

Under the hood, the device will be powered by the Dimensity 9400 Plus chipset, paired with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. It will be available in three configurations: such as 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB, and 16GB+512GB.

The tablet is expected to pack a 10,420mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. It may feature an 8-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera. He also revealed that OnePlus will launch a rebranded version of this device with the OnePlus Pad 2 moniker.

Oppo Pad 5 specifications (rumored)

As per the leak, the Oppo Pad 5 will arrive with a 12.1-inch LCD panel that supports a 3K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. On the back, it will feature a single 8-megapixel camera. At present, there is no information about the device’s front camera.

The Oppo Pad 5 will be powered by the Dimensity 9400 Plus chipset and a 10,300mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. The device will have support for 67W fast charging. While there is no information about the thickness of the device, it is said to weigh around 579 grams.

The Pad 5 will be available in multiple configurations, such as 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB, and 16GB+512GB. It will be sold in shades like Purple, Silver, and Gray. The leak claims that the tablet may debut alongside the Find X9 series, which is expected to break cover in October.

He added that the upcoming OnePlus Pad 2 for the Chinese market has the same specs as the Oppo Pad 5. However, it will be sold in different colors, such as Blue and Gray.

If you’re looking to game on Android and want a screen larger than your smartphone’s, the market now offers several high-end options. Most are running the latest chipsets, packing in stylus support, and offering displays that try to justify their increasingly steep prices.

Here’s a breakdown of the best Android tablets for gaming in mid-2025—some new, some just updated, and a few that you still can’t buy globally.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Plus

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S10 Plus is probably the most balanced Android gaming tablet out there. It checks nearly every box without veering into the price territory of ultra-premium devices. 

It comes with a 12.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that refreshes at 120Hz and has HDR10+ support. It’s powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+, one of the few high-end MediaTek chips finding its way into flagship tablets.

There’s no real surprise in the hardware: 12GB RAM, UFS storage, a 10,090mAh battery, and quad speakers tuned by AKG. You also get microSD expansion, a rare find for devices in 2025. 

And while the 13MP + 8MP dual camera setup on the back isn’t anything extra, the 12MP selfie camera with 4K video support is good enough for the occasional game stream.

Samsung sells the tablet for ₹90,999, which is above the OnePlus Pad 2 and Xiaomi Pad 7, included in this list. 

Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra

If price isn’t an issue and you believe bigger is better, you have another option from Samsung. The Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra is a 14.6-inch slate featuring an AMOLED panel and the same Dimensity 9300+ chip under the hood. 

It isn’t that different from S10 Plus beyond screen size and memory (up to 16GB with 1TB of storage), and yes, it retains microSD support.

At ₹108,999, it’s Samsung’s most expensive Android slate. You get a slightly better front camera array (dual 12MPs), a bigger 11,200mAh battery, and Wi-Fi 7 support. But unless you’re specifically into cloud gaming or want to multitask with DeX mode, this is mostly for people who prefer oversized screens for everything.

OnePlus Pad 2

If the above models are still too high-end for you, the Android ecosystem offers plenty of options for 1/3rd of the price. You sure will miss out on the extra bells and whistles at this price, but not the essentials. One among those options is the OnePlus Pad 2, which starts at Rs 35,999 in India. 

It comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a 12.1-inch 144Hz LCD, and six speakers. The panel isn’t OLED, but it does support Dolby Vision and HDR10+.

There’s no cellular option or microSD slot, and stylus support is present but limited in utility for gamers. Still, the 9510mAh battery with 67W fast charging and OxygenOS 15 based on Android 14 gives it a reasonably polished experience. 

Xiaomi Pad 7

An even cheaper option is the Xiaomi Pad 7 at a starting price of Rs 27,999. It uses a mid-range Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chip, which is still fast enough for most mobile games. 

Built around an 11.2-inch LCD screen, it offers a 144Hz refresh rate, supports Dolby Vision and HDR10, and its 344 ppi density should make games look sharp.

It comes pre-installed with HyperOS 2, based on Android 15, with long-term update support (four major Android upgrades). There’s no 3.5mm jack or expandable storage, but at this price, it’s hard to find a better value for gaming.

Honorable mentions

OnePlus Pad 2 Pro

The OnePlus Pad 2 Pro is a flagship model above the vanilla Pad 2. It’s got a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with dual Oryon cores, a 13.2-inch LCD at 144Hz, and a 12140mAh battery. But it’s only available in China, and even if you could import it, the ColorOS 15 software build might be more limiting than OxygenOS.

Starting at CNY 3,199 (~₹37,900), it technically undercuts the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus while beating it on performance, at least on paper. 

Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra

Another China-only release in this list is the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra. It’s powered by Xiaomi’s custom Xring O1 chip with a 10-core CPU and has a 14-inch AMOLED panel with 1600 nits peak brightness and an Immortalis-G925 GPU, making it the most hardware-packed tablet Xiaomi has released.

It also has eight speakers, 120W charging, a 50MP camera, and 1TB storage with UFS 4.1 support. It’s priced at 5,699 yuan (~₹67,800) for the 12GB + 256GB model. But like the Pad 2 Pro, it’s only being sold in China, and there’s no global release date yet.

OnePlus has started rolling out OxygenOS 15.0.0.801 for the OnePlus Pad 2. The update is live in India (IN), Europe (EU), and global (GLO) regions, with the build number OPD2403_15.0.0.801(EX01). It is rolling out in batches and will reach more users over the next few days.

The update adds partial screen recording, letting users record a selected part of the screen instead of the whole display. The Calendar, Notes, and My Files apps get a refreshed UI to show more information and make drag-and-drop actions easier.

On the system side, new clock widgets are now available for the Home screen, showing weather conditions and local time. Super Power Saving mode has a revised set of default apps and a better process for adding more apps. Gesture recognition for closing floating windows has been improved, and the shadow effects around floating windows have been enhanced. Quick Settings and the notification drawer now appear stacked vertically instead of side by side when opened together. The update also brings the April 2025 Android security patch to improve system security.

As usual, the OTA rollout is incremental. Only a small percentage of users will get it initially, and a wider rollout will follow soon. To check for the update manually, go to Settings > System > System Updates.

The OnePlus Pad should be very familiar to all of you, after all, it’s a tablet released a year ago. This time, the Pad product released with the Ace 3 Pro is actually not a second generation, but the Pro version. Em…… I’ve had a bad feeling, does it mean that there are actually not many upgrades for this tablet? After having it for a few days, I found out that I was right. The OnePlus Pad Pro is indeed a tablet with… no surprises.

Although there are no surprises, it doesn’t mean it’s not worth buying. If you just want a top-performing tablet, then the OnePlus Pad Pro is one of the few affordable options. Design

Even though I was prepared for this, I still couldn’t help but laugh a bit when I saw the design that was almost identical to some other pads. OPPO Pad 2, OPPO Pad Air2, OnePlus Pad, OnePlus Pad Pro. In just one year, the OPPO family has brought out four identical tablets. Then I look at the Ace 3 Pro right there that does the same thing, it suddenly makes sense again.

I can understand it’s all about the “business”, but you can’t stop me from saying it’s nothing new. Other than the design, other features are also the same, it’s still USB 2.0, no headphone jack, and no NFC. So for the ability to connect to your tablet with a touch on your phone like the Xiaomi Pad, you’ll have to buy its keyboard to do that.

keyboard Case

When it comes to the keyboard case, the Pro version of the keyboard is probably the one that has changed the most. There are more angles it can stand on, and it can connect to the tablet via Bluetooth as well, so it can also be used as a tablet stand. The trackpad is also bigger and easier to use. There’s also a new row of function buttons. All in all, it’s becoming more and more like a laptop keyboard.

As we just mentioned, you will be able to transfer data as soon as you touch the bottom right corner of your phone, which is also made possible thanks to the built-in NFC coil. If you want to really do some work stuff on the OnePlus Pad Pro, this keyboard is definitely worth buying. So can users who already own the standard version use this new keyboard case? The answer is No. Now you know this is one of the reasons why OnePlus wants you to buy the new tablet.

OnePlus Stylo Pro

This OnePlus Stylo Pro also gets some much bigger upgrades than the tablet. In addition to being black, the surface has been changed to a leather-like texture. The nib is rubberized to increase the friction of writing on the screen. And the Pressure Sensitivity has been increased by seven times, with a motor stuffed in it like the Apple Pencil Pro. It can simulate the writing feedback of a pencil or fountain pen, and it even has an exclusive writing sound in the Note App.

With support for laser pointers, it’s clearly made for business people. The writing latency doesn’t seem to be much of an improvement, but the good news is that it was already pretty low. It’s not the lowest latency I’ve ever seen, but good enough.

Display

Another good news is the screen isn’t exactly the same as the standard version. It’s a bit bigger, the resolution is a bit higher, and the brightness is slightly improved. But the bad news is that it’s still an LCD display, and the ratio is 7:5.One of the reasons why I’m not a fan of foldable phones is that their screen ratio is so close to 1:1. It’s not as good as a 16:9 tablet, whether you’re watching videos or browsing the web. Even games that can be displayed on a full screen, may get a smaller field of view.

So to be honest I’m not getting what the benefit of this ratio is, so if any of you know it, leave a comment, please.

Performances

The main reason why the OnePlus Pad Pro is a Pro is that the processor has been upgraded to the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Although Qualcomm is about to release the 8 Gen 4, the 8 Gen 3 is also quite a bit better than the Dimensity 9000 that was released two and a half years ago.

Thanks to the huge body of the tablet, thermal issues were not a problem either. We first tried to play Genshin Impact for half an hour, but of course, it was not difficult for it.

By the way, the OnePlus Pad Pro doesn’t have a 120FPS mode to choose from like the Ace 3 Pro, but the resolution can be boosted. It can be boosted from 864P to 1484P, which is really gaming at 2K rendering resolution. Playing at this resolution for another half an hour, the frame rate remained stable.

It’s normal for the temperature and power consumption to be a bit higher, after all, this big LCD screen is also a big consumer of power. Anyway, the overall gaming experience was pretty good, as my hands weren’t touching the heating area during the game.

Battery & Charging

The battery and charging power are exactly as you’d expect, completely unchanged. It still has the same 67W of charging power, but it only takes about an hour to fully charge the 9510mAh battery. You can play Genshin Impact for more than 5 and a half hours continuously and watch a movie for 14 hours before it dies. Even the standard version can standby for a month, so the Pro version with a more efficient processor is even less to worry about when it comes to battery life.

Software

Of course, OnePlus has done some good things over the past year. The latest ColorOS has created a lot of new features for the tablet. One of the most special features, and the one that I find the best to use, is this triple view feature. Unlike the traditional top-down or left-right split windows, this triple view can display the full screen at the same time as well as focus on a single window.

The point of this feature is that the three apps won’t be frozen or killed because they are on stage, and switching apps is easier and smoother. If you’re a mobile game fan, you should know how great this feature is.

Summarize

OnePlus seems to know that the Pad Pro’s upgrades aren’t quite enough, so it has a more friendly price. The less than four hundred dollar price tag still makes it a worthwhile purchase, but the problem is that it’s only sold in China at the moment. If the Pro version is sold globally, then the price shouldn’t be that low. I don’t know how much you guys are willing to pay for this modestly upgraded tablet, feel free to leave your comments.

OnePlus finally unveiled its next gen tablet earlier this week. The OnePlus Pad 2 arrives as the direct successor of the original OnePlus Pad. But is it actually a worthy successor? How do the two compare in terms of specs, pricing, and other aspects? Let’s check it out.

OnePlus Pad 2 with a taller & brighter display

The new OnePlus Pad 2 launched with a taller 12.1-inch IPS LCD panel that offers a resolution of 3,000 x 2,120 pixels, a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and up to 900 nits of peak brightness. This is taller than the 11.61-inch IPS LCD screen on the original OnePlus Pad. You still get Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and a 144Hz refresh rate. But, its peak brightness maxes out at 500 nits.

Flagship chip upgrade

The Chinese company had announced the OnePlus Pad with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC. This is a high end chip that offers capable performance. However, the successor to this tablet takes performance to the next level. OnePlus Pad 2 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This is the same processor that powers ultra premium phones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

6 Speakers over 4

There are plenty of similarities between the two generations of tablets, but OnePlus did bring some changes in the audio setup. What’s remained the same?

You still get the metal unibody that employs aluminum for the rear and the frame. This adds premium feel to the tablet. The battery is still a massive 9510mAh cell, which supports a respectable 67W wired fast charging. Another area that remained untouched is the camera system. The front still houses an 8-megapixel selfie shooter, while the rear has a 13-megapixel camera.

Pricing & Verdict

Back in 2023, the first OnePlus Pad dropped with a starting price tag of ₹37,999, $479, €499 in India, the US, and Europe, respectively. With all these upgrades, there has been a slight hike in price with the OnePlus Pad 2. The tablet now starts from ₹42,999 in India. Meanwhile, its US, EU, and UK market pricing starts at $550/€550/£500. Unlike the unique Halo Green color option on the original Pad, the Pad 2 only arrives in a rather plain Nimbus Gray color option.

So if you’re looking for a new tablet right now, the OnePlus Pad is the more affordable option. However, the OnePlus Pad 2 seems like a better offering, if you can stretch your budget a bit. However, he didn’t reveal much about the product himself.

According to a recent rumor, the Pad 2 will come with four storage configurations 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB, and 16GB+512GB, and two color options: space gray and fresh khaki green. According to the leak, it could be released as soon as this month.

The device weighs 585 grams, which is slightly heavier as compared to the 552g OnePlus Pad, which was released in April last year.

Since the SD 8 Gen 3 is more powerful than the Dimensity 9000 and still based on a 4nm process, it will be interesting to see how the Pad 2’s battery life compares to its predecessor while it introduces some industry firsts.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 

The most prominent leak suggests the OnePlus Pad 2 will pack Qualcomm’s current best Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. It would be a notable step up from the Dimensity 9000 on the first-gen Pad, delivering better performance. If true, this will position the Pad 2 squarely against the upcoming Galaxy Tab S10, which is also rumored to sport the same chip. 

Design and Display

Leaks are currently mum on other key specifications of the Pad 2. However, some reports have claimed that it will be the rebrand of Oppo Pad 3 for the global market. It wouldn’t be quite surprising though since the original OnePlus Pad is also a rebranded Oppo Pad 2.

If this turns out to be true, we can expect the tablet with a premium design featuring an all-metal body.

In recent times, we have been learning rumours about the OPPO Pad 3. Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station revealed that the tablet will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. If this indeed turns out to be true, it will pack a significant upgrade compared to its predecessor which is equipped with a Dimensity 9000 SoC onboard. We will have to wait and see if the OnePlus Pad 2 or OPPO Pad 3 debut first. Because both are expected to be similar with the former available globally and the latter only limited to its home market.
