OnePlus has commenced the global rollout of OxygenOS 16 (based on Android 16) for the OnePlus Pad Lite, beginning with Indian users. The update (versions OPD2481_16.0.3.500 and OPD2480_16.0.3.500) introduces substantial performance improvements and AI-powered features across the operating system.

Performance Updates

The Trinity Engine optimizes workload distribution in real-time, improving storage read/write operations and RAM compression. Background resource management has been updated to reduce power drain during intensive tasks, and power-saving modes now adjust performance based on battery levels. Apps launch faster from the home screen, with improved scrolling and touch responsiveness.

Parallel processing updates include animations for text selection magnifiers, status bar transitions, and audio playback controls. Swipe-back gestures now show previews of previous pages with motion tracking, and the Luminous Rendering Engine adds light field motion effects.

AI Features

The Photos app has updated navigation with clearer categories and personalized sorting. Video editing now includes splitting, merging, speed adjustment, transitions, and background music. Users can swipe up to view photo details.

Notes include block editing mode for formatting and repositioning text, images, tables, and documents. Text highlighting, font switching, and quick formatting access via “/” command are now available. Notes can be shared as single links containing all media types.

Interface Changes

The Flux Home screen uses light field styling for icons and has optimized grid layouts and customizable folder configurations. Users can remove icon labels, add more dock apps, and access drawer organization with category sorting and app suggestions.

Lock screen customization includes custom text and configurable corner shortcuts. Flux themes adjust icon styles to match wallpaper colors, with dark mode options available.

Connectivity and Additional Changes

OnePlus Connect groups device settings by type. My Devices appears in Quick Settings and home screen widgets for device management. AI LinkBoost updates kernel scheduling for app connectivity.

Other changes include earbuds-only ringtones, redesigned Smart Sidebar, faster iOS data migration, and updated notification management with Quick Settings customization.

The OxygenOS 16 update is now rolling out to the last eligible OnePlus device, the OnePlus Pad Lite. This entire rollout has been smooth, which began in early November with high-end devices like the OnePlus Open, OnePlus 13, and gradually expanded to mid-range and cheaper Nord CE models.

As shared by OnePlus in a post on the official community, the OxygenOS 16 update for the OnePlus Pad Lite is tagged with the firmware versions OPD2481_16.0.3.500(EX01) and OPD2480_16.0.3.500(EX01). It’s currently available in India as the initial rollout, but it will soon expand to the remaining regions.

If you’re rocking a OnePlus Pad Lite, navigate to Settings > System & Updates > Software update to manually check for the available update. If it doesn’t show up, you can join the OnePlus Release Candidate Program to reduce the wait time. For this, go to Settings > System & Updates > Software update > Beta Program and tap the “update now” button to download the update.

With the OnePlus Pad Lite now joining the OxygenOS 16 party, there’s no more OnePlus device left to receive this major upgrade. However, note that the rollout progresses in batches, so it may take some time to reach all users across all regions.

OnePlus is known for its premium tablets, in addition to its smartphones. Recently, the brand made its entry into the affordable tablet segment with the launch of the OnePlus Pad Lite.

The device is available in several markets around the world, making it a viable option for someone wanting a tablet without breaking the bank. It primarily competes with similar affordable options from fellow Chinese brands.

Upon its release, OnePlus India sent me a unit to try out. Having used the device for the last couple of months, I have shared my thoughts on it in this article.

As always, the brand had no editorial input or early look at this piece.

Who is it for?

The OnePlus Pad Lite is a sub-₹20,000 tablet in India. While in Europe, it retails at around €200. With the ongoing festive deals, which are expected to continue till the end of the year, the product is now even more affordable worldwide (wherever it is sold).

At this price, the tablet is targeted at budget-conscious buyers. More specifically, the OnePlus Pad Lite is catered toward students.

Not only the price, but the features it offers and the way it looks all suggest the tablet is intended for students and the youth. Let’s find out how.

How does it feel?

The OnePlus Pad Lite is well-built and ergonomically designed. It is comfortable to hold for a long duration as its 530g weight is evenly distributed within a 7.4mm thin form factor.

The tablet arrives in a single Aero Blue color option, which offers a dual-tone finish. Both the rear and front cameras are placed on the longer edge, and therefore, your hands don’t get in the way when holding it.

The device is big enough with its 11-inch display and compact enough (254.9 x 166.5 mm) to carry around anywhere. It can be fitted in backpacks of all sizes with ease.

The tablet’s striking blue color and subtle 1+ logo make it an aspirational, fashionable tech product for budget-conscious buyers, such as students and young adults.

What does it offer?

The OnePlus Pad Lite is built around an 11-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Hence, the tablet is rectangular in shape.

It is perfect for watching movies and reading books without much scrolling. If you are into vertical short-form content (Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts), it is well-suited for that too.

The display is complemented by a good set of quad speakers. These not only get loud but also deliver a commendable surround sound experience for the price.

The device boots OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15 with multi-tasking and ecosystem features baked in. Your OnePlus smartphone seamlessly connects with the tablet to offer convenient features, such as screen mirroring, clipboard sharing, media sync, and file management. OnePlus also promises three OS upgrades and six years of security updates, unlike competitors.

The 9,340mAh cell inside the tablet offers solid battery life even with a 4G cellular connection. The device can easily last a day, and some more, with mixed usage. Thanks to 33W charging support, the battery refuels within an hour and a half.

What does it miss?

The display on the OnePlus Pad Lite is adequate. It is neither the brightest nor the sharpest in its segment, as its 1920 x 1200 resolution only delivers 207 PPI.

Coming from a smartphone or a more expensive tablet, you will require some time to get used to the screen. Once your eyes get familiar with the display, there won’t be an issue until you start comparing it with others.

Further, the screen does not offer support for stylus input like its competitors. This could be a dealbreaker for students who prefer digital note-taking over physical notes.

Finally, the MediaTek Helio G100 chipset is not a fast chip. So you may experience stutters here and there. There’s no easy solution to this problem, as even competitors feature the same or even less powerful chips.

Should you buy?

The OnePlus Pad Lite faces strong competition from two products, namely Redmi Pad 2 and Lenovo Idea Tab (which also goes by Moto Pad 60 Neo).

Both these aforementioned tablets cost about the same, and yet offer a sharper display and support for stylus input. Lenovo even bundles the stylus in the box, while Xiaomi charges extra.

But none of them have the software chops of the OnePlus Pad Lite. They don’t offer stellar battery performance or fast charging either.

Looks can be subjective, but in my opinion, the OnePlus Pad Lite has a better design, especially due to its rear camera placement.

The display is OnePlus Pad Lite’s Achilles’ heel. If you can forego that (difficult for some), it is a better product than the other two.

So do we recommend the OnePlus Pad Lite? Yes, we do, especially for students who are on a tight budget, both school-goers and college-goers alike.

Unlike the competitors, the OnePlus Pad Lite will remain fresh for years to come with three promised OS upgrades. And if you happen to own a OnePlus smartphone, it comes out as a default option with added ecosystem benefits.

Apple iPad Mini

Apple’s iPad Mini 7 is the latest iteration of its smallest tablet. It debuted back in 2024, bringing a powerful A17 Pro chipset and a starting storage capacity of 128GB. The Cupertino based giant arrives with a compact form factor thanks to its 8.3-inch Liquid Retina Display. So kids can comfortably game on this tablet while also getting access to a creative tablet, as this model is compatible with the Apple Pencil Pro, opening up a world of creative possibilities.

With features like pressure sensitivity, tilt support, and a customizable tool palette, the Apple Pencil Pro can turn the iPad Mini 7 into a portable digital sketchbook. Other notable features include a 12MP rear camera, 12MP selfie shooter, WiFi and 5G variants, and iPadOS that brings various parental controls.

OnePlus Pad Lite

Back in July 2025, OnePlus unveiled the Pad Lite model at a budget price with features that made it great for everyday use. But one of its new additions was the OnePlus Kids Mode, which offers greater parental controls. This included screen time limits, app control, and built-in eye protection. There are even Google Kids Space preloaded on this tablet.

To recall, it sports an 11-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, and up to 500 nits of peak brightness. Under the hood, this model is equipped with the MediaTek Helio G100 SoC. You also get a sizeable 9,340mAh battery pack, which supports 33W wired fast charging. You also get a quad speaker setup for a more immersive experience while watching media.

Lenovo Idea Tab Pro

Lenovo’s Idea Tab Pro is another great Android tablet option, bringing a tall 12.7-inch LCD display with a 3K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. This tablet arrives with a premium all metal body and is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 SoC. Out of the box, you get a stylus and a fast charger included in the box.

There is even an Idea Tab Pro 2-in-1 keyboard included, as well as a Folio Case. You also get a 13MP rear facing camera, while the front houses an 8MP selfie shooter. A massive 10,200mAh battery pack powers this model, which supports 45W wired fast charging. So you get both power and a great display, making it perfect for gaming and creative sparks for children.

The sub-₹20,000 Android tablet space in India has suddenly become very interesting, thanks to the near-simultaneous launches of the OnePlus Pad Lite and the Redmi Pad 2. Both tablets are priced aggressively, offer large 11-inch displays, run Android 15 out of the box, and support 4G LTE connectivity. But despite similar footprints, these two devices serve slightly different users and use cases. After spending time evaluating both spec sheets, software integrations, and value propositions, here’s a breakdown of how the two stack up.

Display and Design

Both tablets feature 11-inch LCD panels with 90Hz refresh rates, but the Redmi Pad 2 maintains a technical edge on paper. Its 2.5K (2560×1600) resolution delivers a sharper 274ppi pixel density compared to the OnePlus Pad Lite’s HD+ panel at 1920×1200. The Redmi Pad 2 also gets brighter in outdoor conditions, peaking at 600 nits, while the OnePlus Pad Lite caps out at 500 nits.

Both displays are TÜV Rheinland certified for low blue light and flicker-free viewing. However, Redmi adds more with circadian-friendly tuning, DC dimming, wet-touch support, and Reading Mode for extended comfort.

In terms of design, the differences are minor but noticeable. The Redmi Pad 2 is slightly thinner at 7.36mm and lighter at 510–519g, compared to the OnePlus Pad Lite’s 7.39mm thickness and 530g weight. While neither tablet feels bulky, Redmi’s tighter dimensions and extra display clarity make it a better choice for prolonged reading, streaming, or stylus-based tasks.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, both tablets share the same 6nm MediaTek Helio G100 SoC, a mid-tier chip with Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55 cores and a Mali-G57 GPU. Day-to-day performance, browsing, video playback, and productivity apps should be nearly identical.

Where things diverge is the software. OnePlus Pad Lite runs OxygenOS 15.0.1, while Redmi Pad 2 runs HyperOS 2, both based on Android 15. OxygenOS comes with useful integration tools like Screen Mirroring, Clipboard Sharing, and Shared Gallery, which will appeal to existing OnePlus smartphone users. On the other hand, HyperOS introduces Circle to Search, Face Unlock, Gemini, and deeper smart home integration across Xiaomi’s ecosystem.

For stylus fans, Redmi wins again. It supports the Redmi Smart Pen with 4096 pressure levels and ultra-low latency. OnePlus offers no stylus input.

Speakers, Battery, and Connectivity

Each tablet offers a quad-speaker setup, and both support Hi-Res Audio, but Redmi Pad 2 adds Dolby Atmos and even a 3.5mm headphone jack, a rare bonus in this price range. OnePlus, however, touts its Omnibearing Sound Field, which adapts speaker directionality depending on orientation, enhancing the experience while watching videos or gaming.

Battery life is competitive on both ends. The OnePlus Pad Lite packs a slightly larger 9340mAh cell with 33W fast charging, while the Redmi Pad 2 houses a 9000mAh unit with slower 18W charging (and a 15W charger in the box). So, if fast top-ups matter, OnePlus gets the edge here.

Both offer Wi-Fi and LTE variants. The Redmi Pad 2 cellular model supports a broader band spectrum, dual-SIM functionality, and GPS, making it the better choice for those wanting a connected tablet on the go.

Cameras

Neither of these tablets is a photography champion, but the Redmi Pad 2 again edges out slightly with its 8MP rear and 5MP front sensors, both supporting HDR and document modes. OnePlus sticks to 5MP shooters front and back, serviceable for video calls but not much else.

Pricing

The base models of both tablets start at ₹12,999 (after bank offers), with the Redmi Pad 2 Wi-Fi (4GB/128GB) and OnePlus Pad Lite Wi-Fi (6GB/128GB) priced similarly. For LTE variants, Redmi’s 6GB/128GB Cellular and OnePlus Pad Lite 8GB/128GB LTE both cost ₹17,999 (₹14,999 effective in OnePlus’ case).

Redmi offers more flexibility with three configurations and up to 256GB of storage, while OnePlus sticks to two SKUs with identical storage. If you need LTE, 8GB RAM, and maximum storage, Redmi gives you more for the same price.

So, Which One Should You Buy?

If display quality, stylus support, GPS, and cross-platform sharing features matter to you, the Redmi Pad 2 is the more well-rounded option. Its brighter, sharper display, higher-res cameras, and 256GB variant offer better long-term value, especially for students and creatives.

But if you’re already deep into the OnePlus ecosystem or want faster charging and a slightly larger battery, the OnePlus Pad Lite makes a lot of sense, particularly for media consumption and casual productivity.

At these prices, both tablets deliver serious bang for the buck. But if we had to pick one for most users, Redmi Pad 2 edges it out with a more complete feature set and better display, even if it charges a bit slower.

The OnePlus Pad Lite pairs the chip with 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM with 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Meanwhile, the Oppo Pad SE can be purchased in three storage configurations, namely 4GB + 128GB, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 128GB.

Apart from this minor difference in RAM variants, the rest of the specs are still identical. So you still get a massive 9,340mAh battery on the new OnePlus Pad Lite with support for 33W wired fast charging like the Oppo Pad SE. For optics, the 5MP rear camera and 5MP selfie shooter also remains unchanged.

Pricing

Finally arriving at the key difference between these two affordable tablets, let’s talk pricing. OnePlus just announced the Pad Lite model for a starting price tag of 15,999 INR for the WiFi only 6GB + 128GB variant. Meanwhile, the 8GB + 128GB LTE version costs 17,999 INR.

The base 4GB + 128GB WiFi only Oppo Pad SE starts from 13,999 INR, while the 6GB + 128GB LTE version costs 15,999 INR. Its top end 8GB + 128GB LTE variant is listed for 16,999 INR. While OnePlus is throwing in a few bank offers and launch discounts in the mix, the Oppo version of the tablet is clearly more affordable. For the same 15,999 INR variant, you get LTE support on Oppo, and the 8GB + 128GB variant is 1,000 INR cheaper. So you’re likely just paying for the brand here.

Today, the brand officially announced the Pad Lite for India. Here’s a look at the specifications, features, and price of the device.

Customers can also enjoy no-cost EMI for up to 6 months with select banks.

OnePlus seems to be filling in the gaps in its tablet lineup. After introducing the flagship-level Pad 3 just a week ago, new renders now show what’s expected to be a lower-cost alternative called the OnePlus Pad Lite. 

The design, specs, and accessories for this unannounced tablet have been revealed through 91mobiles in collaboration with leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks).

As the name suggests, the Pad Lite isn’t trying to compete with high-end models. It takes cues from the earlier OnePlus Pad Go, both in design and in target market. 

Visually, it’s a standard affair. It comes with flat sides, thin bezels, and a centered circular rear camera module. There’s reportedly a folio case accessory in the works, complete with a built-in kickstand. The tablet is expected to come in a single Aero Blue color.

The Pad Lite is said to pack a MediaTek Helio G100 chipset, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The screen is expected to be an 11-inch LCD with a 1920 x 1080 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.

As for the camera specs, it is said to have two 5-megapixel sensors—one on the front, one on the back. That’s a downgrade from the 8-megapixel pair found on its predecessor. Still, tablets aren’t known for their camera performance, so this likely won’t be a dealbreaker for the Pad Lite’s audience.

One area where the Pad Lite seems to improve on the Pad Go is battery capacity. The new model is reportedly getting a 9,340mAh unit, up from 8,000mAh. 

Likewise, the device will reportedly ship with Android 15 and OxygenOS 15.0.1 out of the box. It measures 254.9 x 166.5 x 7.4mm and weighs 539g.
