OnePlus started off its journey as a startup focused on a single flagship smartphone in a year. But within three years of its formation, the company changed the strategy to two flagship smartphones in 12 months. And a year later, in 2017, OnePlus released a special edition model &#8211; the OnePlus 5T Star Wars edition, in addition to the regular <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-5/">OnePlus 5</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-5t/">5T</a>.</p>
<figure id="attachment_227514" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-227514" style="width: 1620px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/OnePlus-6T-McLaren-Edition-Hands-On-15.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-227514 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/OnePlus-6T-McLaren-Edition-Hands-On-15.jpg?x10805" alt="OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition Hands On (15)" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/OnePlus-6T-McLaren-Edition-Hands-On-15.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/OnePlus-6T-McLaren-Edition-Hands-On-15-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/OnePlus-6T-McLaren-Edition-Hands-On-15-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/OnePlus-6T-McLaren-Edition-Hands-On-15-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-227514" class="wp-caption-text">OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition &#8211; Gizmochina</figcaption></figure>
<p>In 2018, the company partnered with the British Motor Racing company, McLaren for the special McLaren edition of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-6t/">OnePlus 6T</a>. And in the following year, i.e. within six years of its inception, OnePlus released a total of six smartphones in 12 months including the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-7">OnePlus 7</a> duo, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-7t-pro">7T</a> duo, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-7-pro-5g">7 Pro 5G</a>, and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-7t-pro-5g-mclaren/">7T Pro McLaren Edition</a>. Finally, in 2020, OnePlus hit another key milestone with the launch of the Verizon branded OnePlus 8 (OnePlus phones were previously <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/23/oneplus-7t-pro-5g-mclaren-announced-as-a-t-mobile-exclusive/">exclusive to carrier T-Mobile</a> in the US). It also started selling directly through Amazon US this year.</p>
<p>As you can see already, OnePlus has been gradually expanding its operations ever since its inception. But after a period of slow and restrained growth, it looks like the Chinese smartphone maker is all set to spread its wings this year. In the past few months, OnePlus has launched a set of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/26/oneplus-tv-q1-oneplus-tv-q1-pro-launched-price/">premium QLED Q series TVs</a> along with a number of cheaper LED TVs in the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/02/oneplus-tv-u-and-y-series-announced-in-india-with-affordable-price-tags-and-new-features/"> Y and U series lineup</a>.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3><strong>But what&#8217;s next for OnePlus?</strong></h3>
<p>OnePlus was already the number one premium brand in India by the end of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/01/31/oneplus-bestselling-premium-smartphone-brand-india/">2018</a> and for the entire <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/04/oneplus-takes-top-spot-in-the-indian-premium-smartphone-market-in-2019-counterpoint/">2019</a> with a YoY growth of 28%, capturing one-third of India&#8217;s premium segment. According to <a href="https://www.counterpointresearch.com/apple-captured-59-premium-smartphone-segment/">Counterpoint</a>, OnePlus was also one of the top 5 premium smartphone makers in most of the global smartphone markets (except for Latin America and China) in Q1 2020.</p>
<figure id="attachment_325064" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-325064" style="width: 2048px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-8-Pro-vs-iQOO-Neo-3-featured-27.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-325064" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-8-Pro-vs-iQOO-Neo-3-featured-27.jpg?x10805" alt="OnePlus 8 Pro vs iQOO Neo 3 featured (27)" width="2048" height="1152" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-8-Pro-vs-iQOO-Neo-3-featured-27.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-8-Pro-vs-iQOO-Neo-3-featured-27-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-8-Pro-vs-iQOO-Neo-3-featured-27-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-8-Pro-vs-iQOO-Neo-3-featured-27-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-8-Pro-vs-iQOO-Neo-3-featured-27-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-8-Pro-vs-iQOO-Neo-3-featured-27-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-8-Pro-vs-iQOO-Neo-3-featured-27-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-8-Pro-vs-iQOO-Neo-3-featured-27-1920x1080.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-325064" class="wp-caption-text">OnePlus 8 Pro (Left) vs iQOO Neo 3 (Right)</figcaption></figure>
<h4></h4>
<h4><strong>So can it further grow in the premium smartphone segment?</strong></h4>
<p>Compared to the record-breaking shipments registered by phones in the budget category, the premium and ultra-premium segments where the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-8/">OnePlus 8</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-8-pro/">OnePlus 8 Pro</a> belong to respectively don&#8217;t pull those kinds of numbers. The sales in this segment would further decline due to the ongoing pandemic as consumers are restricting nonessential purchases.</p>
<p>So, for a smartphone maker that&#8217;s completely focused on the premium segment, a cheaper and affordable mid-range smartphone was inevitable.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h4><strong>Increasing Prices created a void in the Affordable Smartphone Segment</strong></h4>
<p>The first OnePlus smartphone, the OnePlus One was priced at just $300. The next couple of iterations, the OnePlus 2 and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-3/">OnePlus 3</a> were still priced under $400 (Rs. 30,000). If you remember, the OnePlus 3 series was the one to bring the company into the spotlight globally with an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/06/01/oneplus-3-goes-invite-free-launch-schedules-released/">invite-free sales strategy</a>. And the phone offered flagship specs for an unbeatable $400 price tag!</p>
<figure id="attachment_316798" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-316798" style="width: 2000px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/oneplus-8-pro-featured.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-316798" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/oneplus-8-pro-featured.jpg?x10805" alt="oneplus 8 pro featured" width="2000" height="1200" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/oneplus-8-pro-featured.jpg 2000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/oneplus-8-pro-featured-300x180.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/oneplus-8-pro-featured-768x461.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/oneplus-8-pro-featured-1024x614.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/oneplus-8-pro-featured-696x418.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/oneplus-8-pro-featured-1068x641.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/oneplus-8-pro-featured-700x420.jpg 700w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/oneplus-8-pro-featured-1920x1152.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-316798" class="wp-caption-text">The Oneplus 8 pro starts at Rs. 54,999 in India!</figcaption></figure>
<p>But if you look at the latest OnePlus 8 and the 8 Pro models, the cheapest variant starts at $700! In India, the same base variant starts at Rs. 44,999.</p>
<p>So, OnePlus, which traditionally sold phones in the sub-$400 price segment, has no product catering to the price segment where it started off &#8211; leaving a subset of its fanbase disappointed.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h4><strong>Lite Variants are the New Trend in the Market</strong></h4>
<p>OnePlus&#8217; strategy to release the Nord series is in line with the current trend. The two other brands focused on the premium segment &#8211; <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple">Apple</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> have tweaked their strategies recently.</p>
<p>Both these brands have released a mid-range, affordable model in the market in the past 12 months &#8211; a deviation from their traditional focus on the premium segment. And the mid-range models from both these brands have done exceptionally well.</p>
<figure id="attachment_317250" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-317250" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/iPhone_SE.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-317250" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/iPhone_SE.jpg?x10805" alt="iPhoe SE 2020" width="1200" height="800" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/iPhone_SE.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/iPhone_SE-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/iPhone_SE-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/iPhone_SE-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/iPhone_SE-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/iPhone_SE-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/iPhone_SE-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-317250" class="wp-caption-text">Apple is tapping into a new market segment with the iPhone SE 2020</figcaption></figure>
<p>The<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-se-2020/"> iPhone SE</a> is <a href="https://www.counterpointresearch.com/real-reason-apple-launched-iphone-se-cusp-5g-era/">expected to drive 15 million</a> units in sales for Apple this year. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-3a/">Pixel 3a</a> duo also helped Google ship more units in 2019. In fact, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/10/google-pixel-series-shipments-2019/">Google shipped more devices than OnePlus</a> for the first time last year, even though the flagship <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/04/google-admits-pixel-3-sales-have-fallen-year-over-year/">Pixel 3 sales were lower</a> than its predecessor. So this growth has to be attributed to the cheaper, more affordable Pixel 3a models.</p>
<p>When big brands like Apple and Google, which were premium-only for the past few years, have launched affordable models to drive more sales from the mid-range segment, it was only natural for OnePlus to follow suit.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h4><strong>Mid-Range Phones are exceptionally good this year!</strong></h4>
<p>If a premium brand was looking to launch a mid-range smartphone, for a cheaper price tag, 2020 would probably be a good year.</p>
<p>Why?</p>
<p>Because of the Snapdragon 765G.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/765g.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-293606" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/765g.jpg?x10805" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G" width="600" height="399" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/765g.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/765g-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The new chipset from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> comes delivers flagship-like experience in the mid-range market. You get premium features on an upper mid-range chip like an integrated 5G modem, the latest 7nm manufacturing process, 120Hz display support, Wi-Fi 6, Quick Charge 4+, and 4K 30 fps video recording.</p>
<p>This means, even though the Snapdragon 765G is cheaper than the flagship Snapdragon 865, you don&#8217;t have to sacrifice on the premium features. This is also what OnePlus&#8217; founder Carl Pei mentioned in the interview with <a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/oneplus-nord-interview-carl-pei-1134650/">Android Authority last week</a>.</p>
<p>He said, <em>&#8220;We wanted to do the right thing for the consumer, and we really believe that putting this 765G processor here is the right thing for a product at this price point. It can now deliver the experience we wanted to deliver.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>For a fan base that&#8217;s not ready to &#8216;Settle&#8217;, the Snapdragon 765G is a competent processor to power the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus-nord">OnePlus Nord</a>.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h4><strong>OnePlus needs to rope in More Users into its Ecosystem</strong></h4>
<p>OnePlus is no longer just a smartphone maker. It&#8217;s a headset and TV manufacturer as well, and in the coming years, its likely to diversify its product portfolio with wearables and smart products.</p>
<figure id="attachment_330198" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-330198" style="width: 811px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/OnePlus-TV-series.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-330198" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/OnePlus-TV-series.jpg?x10805" alt="OnePlus TV series" width="811" height="410" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/OnePlus-TV-series.jpg 811w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/OnePlus-TV-series-300x152.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/OnePlus-TV-series-768x388.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/OnePlus-TV-series-696x352.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 811px) 100vw, 811px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-330198" class="wp-caption-text">OnePlus&#8217; new TV series ropes in a new set of users to its ecosystem</figcaption></figure>
<p>With a cheaper device like the OnePlus Nord, it will be able to sell more units and get the OnePlus experience in the hands of more users. With this, OnePlus wants users to be hooked to its OxygenOS ecosystem. After all, if you like a particular ecosystem, you are likely going to experiment with its other products too. For example, if you are a OnePlus smartphone user, you are likely to check out and get the brand&#8217;s TV lineup as well for a seamless experience. This is exactly what Xiaomi has been doing for the past few years in China and India.</p>
<p>So it all makes sense why OnePlus is going after the mid-range segment this year. All we know so far is that the phone will feature <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/01/confirmed-oneplus-nord-will-feature-snapdragon-765g/">Snapdragon 765G</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/26/oneplus-nord-to-sport-32mp-and-8mp-dual-cameras-on-the-front-report/">dual punch-hole cameras</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/07/oneplus-nord-48mp-quad-camera-setup-revealed/">48MP quad-cameras with OIS</a> at the back.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h4><strong>OnePlus Nord faces Stiff Competition</strong></h4>
<p>While launching the mid-range OnePlus Nord makes perfect sense, whether it&#8217;ll be a successful launch is a different story altogether. The OnePlus Nord is all set to face stiff competition in the sub-$500 segment in India as well as Europe. There are a lot of competitive devices in this price range like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-10-lite-5g/">Mi 10 lite</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-note-10/">Mi Note 10</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/realme-x2-pro/">Realme X2 Pro</a>, and even the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/poco-f2/">Poco F2 Pro</a> (€499) with the flagship Snapdragon 865. So it won&#8217;t be an easy road for the brand&#8217;s new mid-ranger.</p>
<p>But history reveals that OnePlus has had a sound product strategy so far and it&#8217;s very likely that they have a solid plan in place for an important device like the OnePlus Nord too.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll know soon!</p>

<h3><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Original Story</strong></span></h3>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Oneplus has been hyping its new mid-range smartphone for a while now. The name of the handset was </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/30/oneplus-confirms-nord-name-shows-prototype-and-hints-at-price/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">revealed to be OnePlus Nord</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> yesterday. It was even </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/01/oneplus-nord-pre-order-europe/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">available for pre-order</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> today, albeit limited to 100 customers. Now, the company’s co-founder Carl Pei confirms to </span><a href="https://www.techradar.com/in/news/exclusive-oneplus-nord-chipset-5g-and-3-key-focuses-revealed"><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">TechRadar</span></i></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> that the device will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The chipset powering the OnePlus Nord (previously </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OnePlus-8-Lite"><span style="font-weight: 400;">OnePlus 8 Lite</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> &amp; </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OnePlus-Z/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">OnePlus Z</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">) had already leaked a long time ago. But now, the brand confirms itself ahead of the launch.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Snapdragon 765G by </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Qualcomm"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Qualcomm </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">is a mid-range 5G chip found in a number of smartphones, especially by Chinese companies. Phones powered by this SoC is quite popular in China, given its market share as most mid-tier 5G phones feature it.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Apart from the SoC, the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OnePlus"><span style="font-weight: 400;">OnePlus </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">executive did not reveal anything else. But he did hint about providing flagship-level camera experience, however, we all know how good OnePlus is in this department.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Anyway, as per previous leaks and rumors, the forthcoming </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OnePlus-Nord/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">OnePlus Nord</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> will sport a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with dual punch-hole and 90Hz refresh rate. It will come with a 4,300 mAh battery with support for 30W Warp Charge.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Other features of the device include 32MP + 8MP dual selfie camera, 64MP + 16MP + 2MP triple primary camera, up to 12GB RAM, OxygenOS 10 based on Android 10, and could cost as low as ₹24,990 ($330) in India.</span></p>

The phone is one of the most anticipated devices of the year as it will mark the re-entry of OnePlus in the budget segment after the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-x/">OnePlus X smartphone</a> that was launched in 2015.</p>
<p>Although the company has confirmed that the new OnePlus series of smartphones is launching, the brand has not yet revealed the name or the launch date. But if the reports are to be believed, then the OnePlus Nord <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/09/oneplus-z-may-debut-as-oneplus-nord-on-july-10/">could get launched on 10th July</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-326076 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus.jpg?x10805" alt="oneplus" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p>Now, Amazon India has created a landing page on its platform, confirming the arrival of this budget smartphone. This also confirms that the phone will be available for purchase in India through <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/amazon">Amazon</a>, possibly with OnePlus&#8217; official online store.</p>
<p>The upcoming budget smartphone from the company was first leaked as OnePlus 8 Lite, as a part of the newly introduced OnePlus 8 series. Later, it was reported that the device has been rebranded to OnePlus Z. Now, reports hint at the phone getting launched as the OnePlus Nord. But to know for sure, we&#8217;ll have to wait for a couple of weeks.</p>
<p>Rumors indicate that the device will come with a 6.4-inch <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oled">OLED display</a> with Full HD+ screen resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Running on Android 10, the device is said to be powered by a 4,000mAh battery with the company’s own Warp Charge technology.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-one">OnePlus One</a> came with a price tag of $299 for its 16 GB storage version. The higher 64 GB model came with a pricing of $349. Recently, the specifications of the upcoming mid-ranger from the company were spotted in a survey site in India. The listing didn’t confirm the name of the device. However, its details matched with the rumored specs of the OnePlus Z.  The listing stated that the phone is priced at Rs. 24,990 (~$328).</p>
<p>Hence, there is a possibility that the OnePlus Nord could be priced around $299 to $349 or under $399. If it arrives with a similar pricing, it could be a good rival for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-se-2020/">iPhone SE 2020</a> that is available for $399 in the market.</p>

<h3><strong>OnePlus Z (OnePlus Nord) specifications</strong></h3>
<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-z/">OnePlus Z</a> survey listing revealed that it will have a 6.55-inch S-AMOLED display that offers Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The Snapdragon 765 is said to power the device with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.</p>
<p>It may come with a 16-megapixel front camera and a 64-megapixel + 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/12/07/oneplus-8-lite-renders-leaks-with-a-design-similar-to-samsungs-galaxy-s11/">triple camera setup</a> on its rear. The handset may house a 4,300mAh battery with 30W fast charging support.</p>
<p>It is still unclear whether the handset will debut as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/09/oneplus-z-may-debut-as-oneplus-nord-on-july-10/">OnePlus Z or OnePlus Nord</a>. Rumors have it that it <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/08/oneplus-z-tipped-to-launch-on-july-10-in-india-specs-leak-via-a-survey/">may debut on July 10 in India</a>.</p>

The Chinese company is expected to launch the OnePlus TV and also a mid-range smartphone, something it had not done in years. The smartphone was earlier tipped to adopt the moniker OnePlus Z but a recent tip points to it being <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/09/oneplus-z-may-debut-as-oneplus-nord-on-july-10/">named OnePlus Nord</a>.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-Z.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-325104" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-Z.png?x10805" alt="oneplus z" width="670" height="403" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-Z.png 670w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-Z-300x180.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px" /></a></p>
<p>Well, the OnePlus Nord (OnePlus Z if you like) has now been certified by Germany&#8217;s TuV Rheinland. The device certified by TUV Rheinland actually bore the name OnePlus AC2003. But if you recall, the same model had <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/02/alleged-oneplus-z-spotted-with-snapdragon-765g-at-geekbench/">earlier appeared on Geekbench</a> database with some of its key specs in tow.</p>
<p>The TUV Rheinland certification page shows the device will pack a 5V/6A super-fast charging support. This means the device may ship with a 30W fast charging adapter. Unfortunately, the page doesn&#8217;t reveal any more detail of the model. However, recertification is also a pointer to the fact that the model will have a display that is devoid of harmful blue light. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus-nord-tuv-rhineland.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-328333" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus-nord-tuv-rhineland.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="583" height="364" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus-nord-tuv-rhineland.jpg 583w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/oneplus-nord-tuv-rhineland-300x187.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 583px) 100vw, 583px" /></a></p>
<p>The earlier <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/02/alleged-oneplus-z-spotted-with-snapdragon-765g-at-geekbench/">GeekBench</a> listing for the OnePlus AC2003 reveals the device will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor paired with 12GB of RAM. For the interface, the smartphone will ship with Android 10 OS out of the box. The OnePlus Nord 5G is rumoured to pack a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a centrally placed punch hole and support for 90Hz refresh rate. The phone is also rumoured to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/16/oneplus-nord-quad-camera-setup/">feature a quad-camera setup at the rear</a> while it will get its juice from a 4000mAh battery with USB-C port and 30W fast charging support.</p>

The phone is expected to be named OnePlus Nord, which was earlier said to have been named OnePlus Z and OnePlus 8 Lite.</p>
<p>When rumors started circulating about the budget OnePlus smartphone, the device was said to have a dual-camera setup on the back. Later, it was said that the phone will feature a triple-camera setup. Now, the latest report claims that it has now been upgraded to a quad-camera setup on the back.</p>

<p>Although the exact camera specifications have not been revealed yet, the report indicates that the phone could come packed with a 48-megapixel primary sensor, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens. The fourth camera sensor in the setup could be a depth sensor or a color filter.</p>
<p>The smartphone will reportedly come powered by the Qualcomm <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/01/14/qualcomm-slashing-snapdragon-765-prices-will-affect-mediatek-5g-chips-orders-ming-chi-kuo/">Snapdragon 765 chipset</a>, along with support for 5G connectivity. Rumors have also claimed that the company is planning to launch a less powerful phone called OnePlus Z. The smartphone is rumored to be powered by Snapdragon 765G and is expected to debut in July. A mysterious OnePlus has surfaced on the Geekbench benchmarking platform. It appears to be the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/30/oneplus-z-could-be-oneplus-8-lites-real-name/">upcoming OnePlus Z phone.</a></p>
<p>The mysterious OnePlus AC2003 that has emerged on Geekbench 5 has scored 612 in the single-core test and 1955 in the multi-core test. The handset is fueled by an octa-core processor from Qualcomm that is dubbed as “Lito” on Geekbench 5. It has a base frequency of 1.80GHz.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-325611" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Alleged-OnePlus-Z-Geekbench.jpg?x10805" alt="Alleged OnePlus Z Geekbench" width="764" height="811" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Alleged-OnePlus-Z-Geekbench.jpg 764w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Alleged-OnePlus-Z-Geekbench-283x300.jpg 283w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Alleged-OnePlus-Z-Geekbench-696x739.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Alleged-OnePlus-Z-Geekbench-396x420.jpg 396w" sizes="(max-width: 764px) 100vw, 764px" /></p>
<p>The OPPO Reno4 phone that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/01/oppo-reno4-geekbench-listing-reveals-snapdragon-765g-and-12-gb-ram/">surfaced on Geekbench yesterday</a> was spotted with the same Lito processor. The Reno4 is rumored to be fueled by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-765G">Snapdragon 765G</a> SoC. Hence, there is a possibility that the OnePlus Z could be fueled by the Snapdragon 765G. As mentioned above, previous reports have also claimed that the SD765G will be driving the OnePlus Z phone. The Geekbench listing further mentions that the phone has Android 10 OS and 12 GB of RAM.</p>
<p>Recently, <em>GizmoChina </em>had carried an exclusive report to reveal the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/28/oneplus-z-leaked-screen-protector-showcases-the-front-design/">image of a screen protector</a> for the OnePlus Z phone. It revealed that the display of the OnePlus Z will have a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/28/oneplus-z-coming-in-july-with-a-centered-punch-hole/">punch-hole at the top-center position</a> on its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/30/oneplus-z-hands-on-photo-leaked/">flat display</a>. It is likely to carry support for the 90Hz refresh rate.</p>

<h3><strong>OnePlus Z specifications (Rumored)</strong></h3>
<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/04/oneplus-8-lite-leaked-price-specifications-and-launch-revealed/">OnePlus Z is speculated</a> to come with a 6.4-inch display. The back panel of the phone may sport a 48-megapixel + 16-megapixel + 12-megapixel triple camera system. It may draw power from a 4,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging support. The protector is accompanied by the render of the upcoming affordable model showing the front design.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-Z-Exclusive-GizTop.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-325103" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-Z-Exclusive-GizTop.jpg?x10805" alt="OnePlus Z" width="695" height="695" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-Z-Exclusive-GizTop.jpg 695w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-Z-Exclusive-GizTop-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-Z-Exclusive-GizTop-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnePlus-Z-Exclusive-GizTop-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 695px) 100vw, 695px" /></a></p>
<p>The OnePlus Z has featured in previous leaks which show the front design. This new leak reaffirms the design which includes centrally placed punch-hole and curved edge display. The display also features narrow bezels on all sides but that of the chin is slightly prominent. The earpiece is also nested on the top edge while the volume rockers and power buttons are at the right edge.</p>
<p>That is about all the important details we can pick up from the leaked image. But earlier leaks tipped the model to pack a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/01/leak-reveals-the-oneplus-z-has-a-snapdragon-processor/">Snapdragon 765</a> chipset and a USB-C port.</p>

A fresh leak has revealed that <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus">OnePlus</a> has decided to go with a Qualcomm processor for its upcoming OnePlus Z smartphone and not a MediaTek processor as earlier reports have said.</p>
<p>The info was revealed by Max J. (@MaxJmb), the same leaker that reconfirmed that the OnePlus Z <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/28/oneplus-z-coming-in-july-with-a-centered-punch-hole/">will launch in July</a>. According to a tweet he shared today, the OnePlus Z is powered by a Snapdragon 765 processor with support for 5G.</p>

<p>Earlier leaks had said the OnePlus Z will have MediaTek&#8217;s Dimensity 1000/1000L processor under the hood but that seems to have changed. Could it have been that the info was incorrect? Maybe, maybe not.</p>
<p>It is possible that OnePlus originally decided to use one of MediaTek&#8217;s new 5G processors but changed its mind. Since the launch is still two months away, there is still enough time for such a major change to happen as long as mass production is yet to commence. However, the reason for changing from MediaTek to Qualcomm can be for a myriad of reasons.</p>
<p>Did Qualcomm offer OnePlus a better deal on the price of its Snapdragon 765 chipset? Did OnePlus, itself, decide to switch to a Snapdragon processor for reasons unknown to us? Is the Dimensity 1000 towing the same line as the ill-fated Helio X30 from a few years ago? We can come up with a lot more questions.</p>
<p>The Snapdragon 765 is a powerful mid-range processor but it still doesn&#8217;t match the Dimensity 1000L in terms of performance talk less of the Dimensity 1000. Nevertheless, we are sure there are lots of folks out there that are happy at the news that the OnePlus Z has a Snapdragon processor. Are you one of them? Let us know in the comment box.</p>

<p>The publication claims that it received the OnePlus Z leaked shot from the same source that it had provided it with hands-on shots of OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro. Still, it has advised readers to digest the leak with a pinch of salt.</p>
<p>The live shot of the OnePlus Z shows that is fitted with a flat screen. The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro have curved screens with a punch-hole placed at the upper-left corner. The OnePlus Z hands-on image reveals that it will be the first OnePlus phone to feature a top-center positioned punch-hole on the display. A new leak has revealed the date for the launch of OnePlus&#8217;s third phone this year.</p>
<p>According to leaker Max J. (@MaxJmb), the OnePlus Z will be announced in July. The leaker shared an image on Twitter confirming the phone&#8217;s release date.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>The OnePlus Z was originally expected to launch alongside the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-8/">OnePlus 8</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-8-pro/">OnePlus 8 Pro</a> but didn&#8217;t. OnePlus even teased that there would be a surprise product at the Chinese launch of the OnePlus 8 series and we thought it would be the OnePlus Z but there actually wasn&#8217;t any surprise product.</p>
<p>We do not know if the July release is the OnePlus originally planned or if it actually postponed the launch of the phone. Nevertheless, we now know that the phone is still coming even though there is no specific date yet and we do not know which market it will launch in first.</p>
<p>The OnePlus Z will have a punch-hole display with the hole in the middle of the screen rather than on the left side like that of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. The screen is said to be 6.4-inches in size and has a refresh rate of 90Hz. It is also rumored to have a MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G processor inside it. Other features are a 48MP triple camera setup, a 4000mAh battery, and support for 30W fast charging.</p>

The launch event, which was done online, saw the manufacturer announce the OnePlus 8, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-8-pro/">OnePlus 8 Pro</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/14/oneplus-bullets-wireless-z-brings-fast-charging-to-earbuds-for-just-50/">OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z</a>. However, one device that was missing from the lineup is the much-anticipated OnePlus Z a.k.a. OnePlus 8 Lite. A teaser by OnePlus China on Weibo hints at the phone launching tomorrow.</p>
<p>The teaser is an image of a white box with a question mark on top and a caption that roughly translates to “If there will be a “mysterious new product“ at the launch event tomorrow, what do you think it will be?”.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-317093" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/OnePlus-Z-Weibo.png?x10805" alt="OnePlus Z Weibo" width="657" height="609" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/OnePlus-Z-Weibo.png 657w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/OnePlus-Z-Weibo-300x278.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/OnePlus-Z-Weibo-453x420.png 453w" sizes="(max-width: 657px) 100vw, 657px" /></p>
<p>The box is clearly a retail package for a phone and it is quite smaller than the retail box for the new OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. We believe it is the retail box for the OnePlus Z/OnePlus 8 Lite.</p>
<p>It makes sense that OnePlus is launching this phone in China (first) rather than globally. The phone is expected to come with a MediaTek Dimensity 1000 processor, and unlike the rest of the world, Chinese phone buyers are more receptive to phones powered by <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/mediatek">MediaTek</a> processors.</p>
<p>The OnePlus Z is rumored to have a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a centered punch-hole. It has also been reported to have 48MP triple rear cameras, a 4000mAh battery capacity, and support for 30W Warp Charge.</p>
<p>Do you think the mysterious product is the OnePlus Z?</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">From a startup to a fully-fledged premium smartphone brand, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OnePlus/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">OnePlus </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">has come a long way since its inception in 2013. Now, as the brand is all set to unveil its 7th generation of smartphones, it has also tweaked its logo with bold letters and icons. In case you are wondering, the OnePlus 8 series is indeed the seventh generation of phones from the company as it ditched number 4 back in 2017 by l</span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/06/20/oneplus-5-launched-dual-cameras-year-solid-price/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">aunching the OnePlus 5</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Although OnePlus still depends on feedback from its community, the brand has shifted its philosophy from making ‘flagship killers’ to producing ‘premium flagships’ competing directly with the big names like Apple, Samsung, and Huawei. Also, the brand still somehow manages to undercut the competitors by pricing its devices slightly cheaper with OxygenOS as an icing on the cake.</span></p>
