<p><a href="https://aphy.io/">Apostrophy OS (AphyOS)</a> is a new mobile <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/operating-system">operating system </a>shaking things up in the privacy and security space. Unlike traditional Android, AphyOS ditches Google Mobile Services (GMS) and the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/google-play-store">Play Store</a>. This means you get more control over your data and avoid intrusive background tracking.</p>

<h3>AphyOS utilizes the Android Open Source Project to ensure security</h3>

<p>Built on a secure foundation, AphyOS utilizes the open-source Android Open Source Project (<a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/aosp">AOSP</a>) along with elements from the privacy-focused GrapheneOS project. This combination ensures a strong security core for your device.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="681" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Screenshot-2024-03-09-102511-1024x681.png?x10805" alt="AphyOS" class="wp-image-610243" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Screenshot-2024-03-09-102511-1024x681.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Screenshot-2024-03-09-102511-300x199.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Screenshot-2024-03-09-102511-768x511.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Screenshot-2024-03-09-102511-696x463.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Screenshot-2024-03-09-102511-632x420.png 632w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Screenshot-2024-03-09-102511.png 1038w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Adding another layer of trust, the company behind AphyOS is based in Switzerland, a country known for its strict data privacy laws. Their focus on net neutrality further strengthens their commitment to user transparency.</p>

<p>Currently, AphyOS isn&#8217;t available for existing <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android </a>devices. Instead, they&#8217;re taking a different approach. By partnering with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), they aim to pre-install AphyOS on brand-new smartphones. This strategy targets wider adoption compared to custom ROMs, which require more technical knowledge to install.</p>

<p>Despite being new, AphyOS has already secured partnerships with European OEMs, showcasing promising growth potential. Their vision is to become a major player in the mobile market, prioritizing user privacy and security.</p>

<p>The future of AphyOS looks bright for privacy-conscious users. Overcoming challenges like establishing a new device line will be key to their success. We&#8217;ll keep an eye on their progress and update this guide as they announce new partnerships and market expansions.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s been a while since <a href="http://gizmochina.com/category/lenovo">Lenovo </a>has innovated in the &#8216;software&#8217; side of things. The Hong-Kong-based company is stepping up its game in the tech world by working on a new <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/artificial-intelligence">Artificial Intelligence</a> (AI) operating system that might just give <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/windows-11">Windows 11</a> a run for its money. At the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/ces-2024">CES 2024</a> event, Lenovo&#8217;s big shot, Liu Jun, let slip their plans to roll out an AI OS this year. A move like this is clearly a part of Lenovo&#8217;s big push into AI; the company seems serious about leading the charge in smart tech.</p>

<h3>AI is making its way onto almost all platforms, and Lenovo wants a piece of the pie</h3>

<p>Last year, Lenovo was all about boasting its full-stack intelligence strategy. Now, they&#8217;re moving forward with an AI OS focused on AI PCs and personal helpers. The idea is to make computers and devices smarter at understanding what we want, using natural language. This means our gadgets could get a lot better at figuring out our needs without us having to spell everything out.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="900" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/channels4_profile.jpg?x10805" alt="Lenovo" class="wp-image-604175" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/channels4_profile.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/channels4_profile-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/channels4_profile-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/channels4_profile-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/channels4_profile-696x696.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/channels4_profile-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Lenovo&#8217;s first batch of these smart AI PCs is expected to hit the shelves in the first half of this year. They&#8217;re designed to be super intuitive, with a knack for picking up on user intent. On top of that, Lenovo&#8217;s crafting smart devices embedded with AI, emphasizing that they&#8217;re built to respect user privacy and security.</p>

<p>The new AI OS isn&#8217;t just about launching nifty devices; Lenovo wants to kickstart an AI PC ecosystem. This is a big deal because it&#8217;s not just about making cool products; it&#8217;s about changing how <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/technology">technology </a>works for us on a daily basis.</p>

<p>With tech giants in <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/china">China </a>and around the world trying to make their own operating systems, Lenovo&#8217;s new project could shake things up. If they pull it off, Lenovo&#8217;s AI OS might stand toe-to-toe with big names like Microsoft&#8217;s Windows 11. The organization&#8217;s dive into AI could mark a turning point, making technology smarter and more in tune with our lives.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/01/19/ayaneo-next-2-key-specs-teaser/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ayaneo announced that</a> it will release Ayaneo OS, a Linux-based operating system for its devices later this year. The move is similar to Valve&#8217;s decision to release SteamOS 3, which powers the Steam Deck, as a way to have more control over the user experience. Here are the details…</p>

<h3><strong>Ayaneo confirm their Linux-based Ayaneo OS arrives this year</strong></h3>

<p>When they previously talked about the Linux-based <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ayaneo/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ayaneo OS</a>, they said &#8220;<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ayaneo/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ayaneo</a> team loves games and game consoles as well. In the process of creating the best Windows handheld in the world, they found that the existing operating system in the new form of PC handheld still has many poor experiences, and even some problems that we can&#8217;t be solved. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1024x576.jpeg?x10805" alt="Ayaneo OS" class="wp-image-509596" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1536x864.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-747x420.jpeg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>&#8220;In order to allow everyone to enjoy the game and the handheld hardware better, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ayaneo/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ayaneo</a> has launched the Ayaneo OS, which is based on the Linux system and developed exclusively.&#8221; The company also mentioned that it will be using Proton, a compatibility layer that allows Windows games to run on Linux.</p>

<p>Recently, Ayaneo successfully completed an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign for the Ayaneo 2 and GEEK models, both of which feature an AMD Ryzen 6800U. The campaign garnered $3,157,147 in donations and 2,680 donations, and is currently in a pre-order-like demand phase.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1-1024x576.jpeg?x10805" alt="Ayaneo OS" class="wp-image-509597" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1-1536x864.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1-747x420.jpeg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/ayaneo-confirms-the-release-of-their-linux-based-ayaneo-os-1.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>While Ayaneo&#8217;s crowdfunding campaign has been successful, it&#8217;s still only a fraction of Steam Deck sales, which have surpassed 1 million units sold as of October 2022. It will be interesting to see how Ayaneo&#8217;s Linux-based operating system and gaming handheld fare in a highly competitive market market.</p>

<p>ZTE-backed <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/nubia">Nubia</a> has already confirmed that the company will launch its upcoming Z-series flagship smartphone &#8212; Nubia Z50 in China on 19th December.</p>

<p>Now, the company has revealed that along with the smartphone, a new version of its operating system &#8212; <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/myos-13">MyOS 13</a> will also get released on 19th December, which comes with upgrades and some new features.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="589" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/MyOS-13-Launch-Date-589x1024.jpeg?x10805" alt="MyOS 13 Teaser" class="wp-image-502793" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/MyOS-13-Launch-Date-589x1024.jpeg 589w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/MyOS-13-Launch-Date-173x300.jpeg 173w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/MyOS-13-Launch-Date-242x420.jpeg 242w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/MyOS-13-Launch-Date.jpeg 690w" sizes="(max-width: 589px) 100vw, 589px" /></figure></div>

<p>It is revealed that the upcoming MyOS 13 will come with a refreshed <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/design">design</a>, a step-less speed change technology, and the overall system fluency will be increased by 30 percent.</p>

<p>As of now, the company has not revealed much about the new update to the user interface, but we expect to know more in the coming days thorugh teasers. It&#8217;s likely that the MyOS 13 will be based on the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-13">Android 13</a> operating system.</p>

<p>Coming to the Nubia Z50, the smartphone is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-gen-2">Snapdragon 8 Gen 2</a> processor, which was announced last month and uses LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 storage. A few smartphones have already launched powered by this new chipset, and we expect most of the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/flagship-smartphone">flagship phones</a> to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-471122 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/HarmonyOS-3-Launch-Date.jpeg?x10805" alt="Huawei HarmonyOS 3.0" width="1080" height="1920" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/HarmonyOS-3-Launch-Date.jpeg 1080w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/HarmonyOS-3-Launch-Date-169x300.jpeg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/HarmonyOS-3-Launch-Date-576x1024.jpeg 576w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/HarmonyOS-3-Launch-Date-768x1365.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/HarmonyOS-3-Launch-Date-864x1536.jpeg 864w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/HarmonyOS-3-Launch-Date-696x1237.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/HarmonyOS-3-Launch-Date-1068x1899.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/HarmonyOS-3-Launch-Date-236x420.jpeg 236w" sizes="(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
<p>With the new HarmonyOS 3, the company claims to being some new features to the operating system, including an experience for connections, pages, collaboration, and some other major aspects of UX.</p>
<p>The market share of the operating system appears to be growing as Yu Chengdon of Huawei had earlier claimed that there are more than 300 million devices running HarmonyOS, which includes 200 million devices in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ecosystem">ecosystem</a> and 100 million third-party products from its partners.</p>
<p>Huawei released the developer beta version and opened public beta recruitment for the upcoming HarmonyOS 3 last month, which supports devices like<span> the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/02/09/huawei-p50-pro-p50-pocket-available-globally-prices/">P50 series</a>, the Mate 40 series, and the MatePad Pro 12.6-inch 2021 model.</span></p>
<p>In addition to this new version of the company&#8217;s self-developed operating system, Huawei is also gearing up to launch a few more products at the launch event, including the company&#8217;s first <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/smart-tv">Smart TV</a> powered by HarmonyOS 3.</p>
<p>Along with the Huawei Smart Screen S Pro 86, the company is also said to launch a new MateBook X Pro, flagship tablet MatePad Pro 11, and Huawei Chang Enjoy 50 Pro.</p>

This new operating system from the search engine giant is designed to run on old PCs and Macs.</p>
<p>The company is targeting businesses and schools for this new operating system and claims that it can be installed &#8220;within minutes.&#8221; Google says <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chrome-os">Chrome OS</a> Flex can run efficiently on devices that are up to 13 years old.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-443591 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-1.jpeg?x10805" alt="Google Chrome OS Flex" width="1920" height="1280" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-1.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-1-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-1-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-1-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-1-696x464.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-1-1068x712.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-1-630x420.jpeg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></p>
<p>The announcement of this new operating system from Google comes a few years after it acquired Neverware, a company that made Cloudready, a lightweight operating system for schools and businesses with fleets of old PCs or <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-mac">Macs</a>.</p>
<p>Talking about the use case, Google says that the old systems could be revitalized by replacing <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows">Windows</a> or macOS with Chrome OS Flex, a lightweight operating system that can run on weaker hardware and remain stable for years.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-443592 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-2.png?x10805" alt="Google Chrome OS Flex" width="16003" height="10003" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-2.png 16003w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-2-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-2-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-2-1024x640.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-2-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-2-1068x668.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-2-672x420.png 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Chrome-OS-Flex-2-1920x1200.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 16003px) 100vw, 16003px" /></p>
<p>Interestingly, the company says that the Chrome OS Flex will get the same attention from Google as Chrome OS. It will look and feel the same as the Chrome OS available on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chromebook">Chromebook</a> as it is built from the same codebase.</p>
<p>However, the availability of some features may be dependent on the hardware. This means that some of the features like always-on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-assistant">Google Assistant</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> smartphone syncing may not be available for everyone.</p>
<p>The Chrome OS Flex is available for early access but the company says that it has not done any large-scale testing. Google is just giving users a chance to play around with the OS and provide feedback before it pushes it in the market.</p>

</p>
<p>Now, a <a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/android-13-output-picker/">new report</a> from <em>Android Police</em> reveals that the Android 13 will come with some UI changes apart from the addition of new features. Google could be giving a new look to the output picket menu in the upcoming Android 13.</p>
<p>For those who are unaware, the output picker is a part of the media controls, showing a button at the top-right with information about which device is playing the media such as cast devices, Bluetooth buds, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/speaker">speakers</a>.</p>
<p>The report further indicates that the functionality of the feature remains the same and while the images don&#8217;t show the button, it can be accessed from Settings. The volume sliders have also been replaced by newer thicker ones.</p>
<p>The disconnected devices are now grayed out and are no longer marked as &#8220;disconnected.&#8221; Round icons have also gone missing and the selected output device now has a checkmark to make it clear which device is active.</p>
<p>The updated design aims to make it cleaner and clearer for improving the user experience keep the design consistent with other elements in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> operating system. But do note that this is still very early and it could get changed by the time Android 13 launches.</p>

<p>Ever since launching HarmonyOS, the company has been actively pushing new updates with features to improve the platform. Currently in version 2, a <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/596/284.htm">new report now reveals</a> information about the official launch of the upcoming HarmonyOS 3.0 later this year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-416485 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>According to a new report, Huawei&#8217;s next-generation <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos-3">HarmonyOS 3.0</a> is expected to officially get released in July this year. However, there&#8217;s a possibility that the official announcement of this new software could be made a bit early.</p>
<p>It is being claimed that the announcement could happen sometime by the end of the second quarter of this year, i.e. by June 2022. The Chinese giant is expected to host an event during the Spring festival but it&#8217;s not yet known what could be announced.</p>
<p>The Huawei HarmonyOS 3.0 Developer Preview <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/10/22/huawei-announces-harmonyos-3-developer-preview/">was released</a> by the company a couple of months back, in October 2021, at the Huawei Developer Conference 2021. It continues to innovate around three core areas &#8212; System Architecture, Super Terminal, and One-time development of multi-terminal deployment.</p>
<p>As per the reports, given that the HarmonyOS is a new-age <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/operating-system">operating system</a>, its system architecture can be deployed flexibly, allowing smart devices with different memories to communicate in the same language. In the latest version, there are deployment automation tools and <span class="accentTextColor">developers can select the required components based on hardware to</span> complete the operating system assembly.</p>
<p>Huawei has announced that the <span class="accentTextColor">HarmonyOS 3 Beta is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2022, i.e. by March 2021,</span> which will provide developers with more complete system capabilities and development tools.</p>

<p><figure id="attachment_432891" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-432891" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-432891 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13.jpg?x10805" alt="Android 13" width="1200" height="800" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-432891" class="wp-caption-text">Android 13 (Image Credit: XDA-Developers)</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>The four major changes or features coming to the Android 13 include App Languages, Runtime Permission for Notifications, TARE &#8212; The Android Resource Economy, and Lock Screen Clock Layout. Here are more details about them.</p>
<h3><strong>App Languages</strong></h3>
<p>
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/24/android-13-features-leak-online/android-13-app-language-1/'><img width="750" height="1200" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-1.jpg?x10805" class="attachment-full size-full" alt="Android 13 App Language" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-1.jpg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-1-188x300.jpg 188w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-1-640x1024.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-1-696x1114.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-1-263x420.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></a>
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/24/android-13-features-leak-online/android-13-app-language-2/'><img width="750" height="1200" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-2.jpg?x10805" class="attachment-full size-full" alt="Android 13 App Language" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-2.jpg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-2-188x300.jpg 188w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-2-640x1024.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-2-696x1114.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-App-Language-2-263x420.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></a>
</p>
<p>It appears that in Android 13, users will be able to set different languages for different applications with the help of the &#8220;App Language&#8221; settings. Currently, Android sets the language system-wide and not on an app-by-app basis.</p>
<h3><strong>Runtime Permission for Notifications</strong></h3>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> seems to be interested in tackling the issue of notification spam and in Android 13, there&#8217;s a new permission &#8220;POST_NOTIFICATIONS&#8221; which means that notifications could become an opt-in feature. This means that users may be able to choose if they want the application to send notifications or not.</p>

</p>
<p>It&#8217;s noteworthy that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> has already introduced sometime similar for notifications permission in the latest Android 12-based <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/one-ui-4">One UI 4</a>.</p>
<h3><strong>TARE</strong></h3>
<p>With Android 13, the search engine giant will lay the foundation for the &#8220;TARE&#8221; feature which is an abbreviation for &#8220;The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> Resource Economy.&#8221; It focuses on energy-use management on the device, with the feature working through AlarmManager and JobScheduler policies.</p>
<p>
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/24/android-13-features-leak-online/android-13-tare-1/'><img width="750" height="1200" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-1.jpg?x10805" class="attachment-full size-full" alt="Android 13 TARE" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-1.jpg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-1-188x300.jpg 188w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-1-640x1024.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-1-696x1114.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-1-263x420.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></a>
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/24/android-13-features-leak-online/android-13-tare-2/'><img width="750" height="1200" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-2.jpg?x10805" class="attachment-full size-full" alt="Android 13 TARE" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-2.jpg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-2-188x300.jpg 188w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-2-640x1024.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-2-696x1114.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-TARE-2-263x420.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></a>
</p>
<p>The feature introduces &#8220;Android Resource Credits,&#8221; which is basically a form of currency tied to the battery level of the device. The company will award credits to apps based on how depleted the battery is, and apps can then use these credits as &#8220;payments&#8221; for the opportunity to perform tasks.</p>
<h3><strong>Lock Screen Clock Layout</strong></h3>
<p>Another user-facing change coming in the Android 13 is the ability for the users to change the layout of the lock screen clock. It will allow users to show the clock on a single line instead of a large two-line square layout. There&#8217;s also a possibility that this new feature can make its way to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-12l">Android 12L</a>.</p>
<p>
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/24/android-13-features-leak-online/android-13-lock-screen-clock-1/'><img width="750" height="1200" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-1.jpeg?x10805" class="attachment-full size-full" alt="Android 13 Lock Screen Clock" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-1.jpeg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-1-188x300.jpeg 188w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-1-640x1024.jpeg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-1-696x1114.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-1-263x420.jpeg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></a>
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/24/android-13-features-leak-online/android-13-lock-screen-clock-2/'><img width="750" height="1200" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-2.jpeg?x10805" class="attachment-full size-full" alt="Android 13 Lock Screen Clock" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-2.jpeg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-2-188x300.jpeg 188w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-2-640x1024.jpeg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-2-696x1114.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-13-Lock-Screen-Clock-2-263x420.jpeg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></a>
</p>
<p>These are some of the features that the team at <em>XDA-Developers</em> were able to find out but there will definitely be more features coming to the Android 13 operating system. We will get to know more about this in the coming months through leaks.</p>

<p>The new version of the Go Edition of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> comes with several upgrades and improvements, especially in terms of performance and privacy.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-430962 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-12-Go-Edition.jpg?x10805" alt="Android 12 Go Edition" width="1820" height="1213" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-12-Go-Edition.jpg 1820w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-12-Go-Edition-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-12-Go-Edition-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-12-Go-Edition-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-12-Go-Edition-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-12-Go-Edition-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Android-12-Go-Edition-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1820px) 100vw, 1820px" /></p>
<p>The company says that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-12">Android 12</a> Go Edition can offer up to 30 percent faster performance compared to the best Android Go phones that are currently available in the market. Hopefully, this means that the users won&#8217;t have to wait for a couple of seconds before the app loads up on the screen.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> also seems to have improved the battery performance on this updated operating system as it is claimed that the system will automatically hibernate applications that don&#8217;t get used for an extended period.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s an increased focus on improving the user experience and in line with that, Google has added a feature that will show options to the users to translate the content displayed on the screen when navigating to the recent apps screen.</p>
<p>It has also got support for sharing apps with nearby Android devices using <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/nearby-share">Nearby Share</a> and Google Play. Also, the profiles are now available on the lock screen, which further simplifies the experience for the users.</p>
<p>With users getting more concerned about <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/privacy">privacy</a>, the company has now introduced a privacy dashboard thorugh which users will be able to see apps that access sensitive data. There&#8217;s also an indicator that will notify users when an application is using the camera or microphone on the device.</p>
<p>Apart from the system-wide changes, some built-in apps have also got new features. For instance, the Files Go <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/application">application</a> has been updated with a feature that allows users to recover deleted files within 30 days.</p>
<p>Google has also shared that there are more than 200 million users with Android Go Edition devices. The company has also confirmed that the first Android 12 Go Edition devices will launch early next year.</p>

It is specially designed for students and schools.</p>
<p>Windows 11 SE is a stripped-down version of the regular Windows 11 operating system and is targeting K-8 students. The laptops powered by this new edition of the OS will be coming from companies like Dell, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hp">HP</a>, Acer, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/asus">ASUS</a>, and others.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-424206 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-2.jpg?x10805" alt="Windows 11 SE" width="1720" height="967" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-2.jpg 1720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-2-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-2-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-2-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-2-1068x600.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-2-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1720px) 100vw, 1720px" /></p>
<p>Microsoft is attempting to focus on simplicity and is optimized to run on slower or low-cost hardware. There&#8217;s no Microsoft Store for installing apps but Win32 and Universal apps can be deployed on the device.</p>
<p>Administrators have exclusive control over what apps are installed and run on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows-11">Windows 11</a> SE laptops via Microsoft Intune for Education. It has removed several features from the standard Windows 11 for creating a more streamlined and distraction-free experience.</p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t the first time Microsoft has launched a stripped-down version of the regular Windows operating system. Earlier, the company had launched Windows 10 S which is streamlined for security and performance, while providing a familiar experience.</p>
<p>The Redmond-based tech giant was also working on a new modern version of the Windows OS, dubbed as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows-10x">Windows 10X</a> with a focus on dual-screen devices but the product was eventually canceled.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-424205 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-Featured.jpg?x10805" alt="Windows 11 SE Featured" width="1820" height="1213" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-Featured.jpg 1820w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-Featured-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-Featured-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-Featured-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-Featured-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-Featured-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Windows-11-SE-Featured-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1820px) 100vw, 1820px" /></p>
<p>Aaron Woodman, Microsoft&#8217;s General Manager of Windows, says that this latest Windows 11 SE is more focused on solving a specific problem &#8212; How can Microsoft create the ideal OS experience for students and teachers?</p>
<p>With this new version of the operating system, Microsoft is directly competing against the Chrome OS that is powering the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chromebook">Chromebooks</a> which have been adopted for many schools and are offered to students.</p>
<p>Do note that the Windows 11 in S Mode is still a thing and allows users to switch to the normal Windows 11 system while the Windows 11 SE is meant to be run strictly in schools on hardware managed by school administrators.</p>
<p>The Surface Laptop SE, costing $249, is the first device to come running this new Windows 11 SE operating system. But there will be devices from other companies starting as low as $219 and will be launched through the remainder of this year and into 2022.</p>

This latest software from the technology giant is already powering the company&#8217;s first-generation Nest Hub.</p>
<p>Now, a new job listing from the company, <a href="https://9to5google.com/2021/10/08/google-fuchsia-expanding-additional-smart-devices/">spotted by <em>9to5Google</em></a>, sheds light on the matter that Google is looking to expand the Fuchsia operating system to &#8220;additional smart devices and other form factors.&#8221;</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_230627" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-230627" style="width: 850px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-230627 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/fuchsia-os.jpg?x10805" alt="Fuchsia OS" width="850" height="430" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/fuchsia-os.jpg 850w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/fuchsia-os-300x152.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/fuchsia-os-768x389.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-230627" class="wp-caption-text">Google&#8217;s Fuchsia OS</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>For those who are unaware, Google has been working on this new Fuchsia OS for a few years, developing the software from scratch. It launched earlier this year without any fanfare, powering the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/nest-hub">Nest Hub</a>, which seamlessly switched from Cast Platform.</p>
<p>The company has been working on adding support of Fuchsia OS on more devices, including the Nest Hub Max and the second-generation Nest Hub. Now, the company is looking to expand it to more devices and not just smart displays.</p>
<p>From the job listing, it appears that the “Fuchsia Devices team” will be working on the operating system and will be responsible for making sure that it can successfully apply the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/fuchsia-os">Fuchsia platform</a> to real world products that make a difference to Google and users.</p>
<p>As of now, there&#8217;s no information about what new form factors the operating system will support but it&#8217;s likely to be the devices with support for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chromecast">Chromecast</a>, Video Conferencing, and Machine Learning capabilities.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s also a possibility that Google could work with some of its partners and bring the latest Fuchsia OS to non-Google devices, including products from companies like JBL and Lenovo. Do note that there&#8217;s no concrete evidence on where this latest <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/operating-system">OS</a> from Google is heading and this is just speculation until more details surface online.</p>

<p>Google is expected to publish the source code for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> 12 operating system on 4th October on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) Gerrit. If Google sticks with its tradition, then the latest Android version should be rolled out to its own Pixel series smartphones on the same day.</p>
<p>Do note that this is a tentative launch date for Android 12 and it could get changed as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> has not officially announced it. Going by history, Google is a bit late in releasing the stable build of the Android operating system. It&#8217;s likely that the development schedule was affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.</p>
<p>The delay could be because Google wants to ensure that everything works properly and is taking more time in testing. Unlike the previous updates, this one comes with significant updates and several new additions, including revamped user interface and more security-focused features keeping user privacy in check. A detailed look at key features in the newer mobile operating system is available <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/19/android-12-is-official-key-features-changes/">here</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-390313 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Android-12-featured.jpg?x10805" alt="Android 12 featured" width="1000" height="563" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Android-12-featured.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Android-12-featured-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Android-12-featured-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Android-12-featured-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Android-12-featured-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>The Android 12 Beta is already available for Google&#8217;s own Pixel lineup and a number of other smartphones from brands like Xiaomi, Realme, OPPO, OnePlus, ASUS, and Samsung. You can check the full <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/19/android-12-beta-eligible-supported-devices-list/">list of eligible devices from this article</a>.</p>
<p>Google is also reportedly working on a new minor update for the Android operating system and interestingly, it appears that it will be a version update. This means that the next update from the company will be Android 12.1 and not Android 13 and is expected to be rolled out pretty soon after the launch of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-pixel-6">Pixel 6 series phones</a>. It&#8217;s noteworthy that the last point update was Android 8.1 Oreo and since then, there haven’t been point updates from Google for the Android operating system.</p>

The Redmond-based tech giant has now released the first beta version of the Windows 11 OS.</p>
<p>The Windows 11 Beta is available for those who are enrolled in Windows Insider Program. As per the company, the beta release is less volatile compared to the Dev build and is being validated by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/microsoft">Microsoft</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-396254 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Windows-11-Widgets.jpg?x10805" alt="Windows 11" width="880" height="507" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Windows-11-Widgets.jpg 880w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Windows-11-Widgets-300x173.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Windows-11-Widgets-768x442.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Windows-11-Widgets-696x401.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Windows-11-Widgets-729x420.jpg 729w" sizes="(max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /></p>
<p>To test out this new version of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows">Windows</a> you will need to have a computer that meets the compatibility requirements laid out by Microsoft. Those who have installed the Dev version can switch to the Beta version by going to Settings &gt; Windows Update &gt; Windows Insider Program and then clicking on Choose your Insider Settings.</p>
<p>Do note that while Beta releases are more stable than the Dev releases, they are still not stable versions and are likely to have bugs, crashes, and missing features. So, we would suggest not installing <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows-11">Windows 11</a> on your primary device yet.</p>
<p>Windows 11 operating system features a new user interface, including a centered Start menu and Taskbar <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/design">design</a>, rounded corners, new sounds, and much more. The preview version available misses some interesting features like in-box app experience and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/25/microsoft-windows-11-android-apps/">Android app support</a> but Microsoft adds that they will soon go into testing.</p>

<p>Now, as per the report from <em>Science and Technology Innovation Express News</em>, the Chinese giant is all set to launch a second-generation version of the operating system in September this year &#8212; HarmonyOS 2.0.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-331207 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/huawei-harmonyos-2.png?x10805" alt="Huawei HarmonyOS 2.0 Leak" width="908" height="235" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/huawei-harmonyos-2.png 908w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/huawei-harmonyos-2-300x78.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/huawei-harmonyos-2-768x199.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/huawei-harmonyos-2-696x180.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 908px) 100vw, 908px" /></p>
<p>When launched, the HarmonyOS (aka <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hongmeng">HongMeng OS</a>) was aimed at several different types of devices but we haven&#8217;t seen many devices powered by the same. But the upcoming version aims to take it a step forward and will be running on computers, smartwatches, and even cars &#8212; in line with the roadmap previously shared by the company.</p>
<p>A couple of months ago, it was reported that Huawei is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/02/huawei-pcs-powered-by-kunpeng-processors-and-harmonyos-2-0/">all set to enter the PC market</a> with products powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kunpeng processors. It was also reported that PCs from Huawei will be running the HarmonyOS 2.0.</p>
<p>Recently, Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/08/huawei-applies-for-trademarks-related-harmonyos/">filed a number of trademark applications</a> for the names like HarmonyOS, HarmonyOS Connected, HarmonyOS Linked, and more. This further indicates that the company is expanding its capability and device compatibility.</p>

<p>The Chinese giant has promoted its HarmonyOS as &#8220;a single OS that covers everything, and works with all product types.&#8221; It is engineered to communicate openly regardless of the device, and by using a microkernel system, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> says HarmonyOS is secure. It is also intelligently adaptive and will display correctly on various screen sizes, just like adaptive mobile websites.</p>
<p>Although the report claims that HarmonyOS 2.0 could get announced in September this year, there is no timeline about the products powered by this operating system to be available in the market.</p>
<p>HarmonyOS was expected to replace the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> operating system on Huawei and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/honor">Honor</a>-branded smartphones. It&#8217;s been almost a year since Huawei launched its own operating system and we are yet to see a smartphone powered by this OS. Given the development so far, we don&#8217;t expect HarmonyOS-powered phones anytime soon.</p>

The development was first reported by <em>The Information.</em></p>
<p>This means that in the future, hardware products from Facebook, which includes the likes of Oculus and Portal, could come running the company home-developed operating system, the report says citing Facebook executive Ficus Kirkpatrick.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-291601 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/facebook-dark.jpg?x10805" alt="facebook dark" width="1200" height="789" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/facebook-dark.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/facebook-dark-300x197.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/facebook-dark-768x505.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/facebook-dark-1024x673.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/facebook-dark-696x458.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/facebook-dark-741x486.jpg 741w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/facebook-dark-1068x702.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/facebook-dark-639x420.jpg 639w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>According to the report, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/operating-system">operating system</a> from Facebook, the name of which remains unknown, will be built from scratch. The project is being led by Mark Lucovsky, a former Microsoft engineer who co-authored the Windows NT operating system.</p>
<p>Its noteworthy that social media giant Facebook has not indicated when the said operating system (OS) might arrive or which products would use it first. This isn&#8217;t the first time Facebook has considered developing its own OS. Facebook once developed prototypes of a custom OS for Home, but ultimately decided to go ahead with Android.</p>
<p>It seems that the current version of the operating system that Facebook is working on is a part of the company&#8217;s larger effort to make itself self sufficient and reduce reliance on other companies.</p>

<p>Andrew Bosworth, Facebook&#8217;s head of augmented and virtual reality, told The Information: <em>&#8220;We really want to make sure the next generation has space for us,&#8221;  &#8220;We don&#8217;t think we can trust the marketplace or competitors to ensure that&#8217;s the case. And so we&#8217;re gonna do it ourselves.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Along with its own operating system, Facebook is also developing a voice assistant similar to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple">Apple</a>&#8216;s Siri and Amazon&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/alexa">Alexa</a>. The company even approached Microsoft to license data from its Bing search engine to train the assistant.</p>
<p>The development of all these software products to power its hardwares will take place in Facebook&#8217;s new 770,000-square-foot campus being built in Burlingame, California, where the company is also developing other products, including <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ar">AR</a> Glasses.</p>

However, the OS is not limited to smartphones and will power a range of devices, including smart home products.</p>
<p>Now, a new report claims that the market share of HarmonyOS will reach 2 percent globally next year, making it the world&#8217;s fifth largest operating system surpassing Linux. Counterpoint further points that the share of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hongmeng-os">HongMeng OS</a> in China will reach 0.1 percent by the end of this year and 5 percent by the end of next year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-282609 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/OS-Market-Share.jpg?x10805" alt="Operating System Market Share" width="550" height="367" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/OS-Market-Share.jpg 550w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/OS-Market-Share-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px" /></p>
<p>Currently, Android is the world&#8217;s leading operating system with a market share of 39 percent, and is followed by Windows having 35 percent market share, Apple&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ios">iOS</a> with 13.87 percent market share, and macOS with 5.92 percent market share. Linux is currently the fifth largest operating system with 0.77 percent share.</p>
<p>HarmonyOS, announced earlier this year, can support a wide range of applications including <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a>, Linux, and HTML5 in the future. The new operating system uses Huawei’s ARK compiler and will support Kotlin, Java, Javascript, C, and C++ programming languages. It will also have a verified Trusted Execution Environment for a better connected security across multiple devices.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>EDITOR&#8217;S PICK: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/07/huaweis-5g-products-expected-to-account-for-50-of-chinas-5g-market-in-2020/">Huawei’s 5G products expected to account for 50 percent of China’s 5G market in 2020</a></strong></h6>
<p>The company had said that it began working on the OS back in 2017. It is currently in version 1.0 with Version 2.0 scheduled for launch next year and version 3.0 planned for 2021. We should also see it appear on PCs next year and on VR headsets in 2022.</p>
<p>HarmonyOS has already started making its way to the company&#8217;s devices starting with smart televisions. Honor Vision TV and Huawei&#8217;s Smart TV both come powered by HarmonyOS out-of-the-box. However, the company has confirmed that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/22/huawei-harmonyos-smartphone-not-coming-this-year/">it has no plans</a> to launch a smartphone powered by this OS this year.</p>
<p>Recently, in an interview with the correspondents of Fortune Magazine, Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/12/harmonyos-will-be-able-to-compete-with-apples-ios-in-2-years-tells-huawei-ceo-to-fortune-magzine/">made a bold claim</a> saying that their in-house developed operating system would be able to compete with top rivals like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple’s</a> iOS within a period of 2 years.</p>

<p>As it has been happening for last few years, the company is expected to unveil this new Android P operating system at the upcoming Google I/O developer conference later this year. And we now have information about what major features to expect.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-173534 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/android.jpg?x10805" alt="Android" width="1024" height="640" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/android.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/android-300x188.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/android-768x480.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>According to a report from <em>Bloomberg</em>, which cites unknown sources aware of the development at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google/">Google</a>, the company is going to offer lots of changes in the upcoming Android P version. One of the major change will be support for unique display types. This addition will enable manufacturers to debut new form factors such as foldable displays just like the Axon M or adopt the &#8220;notch&#8221; just like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-x/">iPhone X</a> and the Essential Phone.</p>
<p>Further, the Android P update is also expected to have tighter integration with the company&#8217;s smart digital voice assistant &#8212; <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-assistant/">Google Assistant</a>. This could be the version in which Google finally grants permission to third-party developers to integrate the Assistant into their own apps.</p>
<p>The report further adds that the Android P will come with a “dramatic redesign”. Some believe that this could be the Google&#8217;s way to “persuade more iPhone users to switch” to devices with Android P. This redesign could be referring to “Material Design 2” which has been reported a few times. Along with all these, we are also expecting improvements for the battery life performance in this upcoming Android update.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #ff0000"><strong>Read More:</strong></span> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/01/22/google-fuchsia-os-shown-running-pixelbook/">Google Fuchsia OS Shown Running on Pixelbook</a></p>
<p>Finally, it states that the Android P&#8217;s internal code name is &#8220;Pistachio Ice Cream&#8221;. However, the final public name of the upcoming Android version is likely to be different. There are a lot of things we don&#8217;t know about regarding this new version but we expected to get to know a lot more at the Google I/O in May this year, where the company is expected to announce Android P.</p>
