Last month at Mobile World Congress 2022, Oppo revealed their latest 240W SuperVOOC fast charging tech along with 150W fast charging which will soon debut on a OnePlus device. The brand also unveiled some details about their Battery Health Engine which is responsible for keeping the battery healthy and safe while charging over such insane speeds in the long run.

Now, in a press release, Oppo has shared the results of the latest lab tests of their fast charging technology in tandem with the Battery Health Engine which is already in use on the Oppo Find X5 Pro. The test results reveal even after 1,600 charging cycles the battery performs at 80% of its original capacity. Each cycle consists of charging a completely dead battery to 100% and then draining it back down to 0% again.

To put this into perspective, suppose that you are a power user using the Oppo Find X5 which features a 5000mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC fast charging and manage to drain the battery completely through a days’ use. After using the device for 4 years and 4 months, you will still have 80% battery health i.e. just 20% battery degradation.

This ability to prolonge the battery life while using high-speed fast charging gives Oppo the upper hand over its competition as brands using conventional fast charging methods see their battery life reduced to 80% of its capacity in just 800 charging cycles.

Oppo says, “As the leader of charging technology, OPPO knows that the future development of fast charging can not only stop at high power – it should also consider aspects such as safety, portability, compatibility, and battery lifespan. Here at OPPO, the company is taking big steps towards upgrading the world of smartphone charging to completely revolutionize the user experience of smartphones while contributing to the future sustainability of lithium battery technologies.”

The brand’s latest 240W fast charging is not quite ready yet, but with a claim of 9 minutes to completely charge a 4500mAh battery, it will be interesting to see if the claims regarding battery health still stand after the 240W SuperVOOC charging is officially launched.

The fast-charging capabilities of smartphones have been constantly increasing year by year. A while ago, we would be contempt with fast charging in the 30W range, and now, 100W+ fast charging has become the norm for many smartphone brands. However, in a recent announcement, OPPO has unveiled some cutting-edge tech that’s honestly pretty mind-blowing.

150W SuperVOOC

At Mobile World Congress 2022, OPPO took the stage to unveil their latest 150W fast charging technology. The brand stated that the new 150W SuperVOOC charging will be assisted by OPPO’s Battery Health Engine and will come coupled with their exclusively customized 6C batteries. The 150W fast charger will be able to easily fill up 50% of a  4500mAh battery in just 5 minutes while a full 100% will take around 15 minutes.

Oppo’s Battery Health Engine

With the increased charging speed, the company states that they have also made the batteries safer and have dramatically increased their life span up to 1600 charging cycles from 0-100 percent with a loss of just 20% battery health. OPPO has announced that the Battery Health Engine will become a staple in upcoming OPPO and OnePlus devices from this point on. For those unaware, OPPO has already debuted the Battery Health Engine in their Find X5 and Find X5 Pro smartphones. The 150W SuperVOOC charging tech will first launch with an upcoming OnePlus device which is scheduled to launch in Q2 2022.

240W SuperVOOC

But that’s not all, as the company also gave us a glimpse at their upcoming 240W fast charging technology which is capable of filling a 4500mAh battery to half capacity in just 3 minutes 29 seconds and takes a meager 9 minutes to get it to 100%. The technology is still not ready for commercialization yet as the company is still working on polishing it further to offer a better battery life and energy density.  So stay tuned for more updates.
