We do it because they are among the hottest handsets in the market: a lot of people want to try 5G connectivity but, at the same time, they want to save money as 5G phones are generally more expensive than 4G ones. In this article, we compared the specifications of three of the main 5G budget phones from Chinese manufacturers sold in the global market: Redmi Note 10T 5G, Realme 8 5G, and OPPO A54 5G.

Design

OPPO always pays a lot of attention to the realization of the designs of its phones, including the affordable ones. The OPPO A54 5G is the device with the most interesting design not only for attention to the details but even for its sleek body. It is thin and lightweight despite its big battery, and it has a high screen-to-body ratio. The Redmi Note 10T 5G has bigger dimensions and a less impressive design, but it comes with the Gorilla Glass 3 protection which makes the display panel sturdier. All these phones are built with polycarbonate and they do not include premium materials.

Display

On the paper, the OPPO A54 5G has a superior display: unlike Redmi Note 10T 5G and Realme 8 5G, it has an LTPS panel which is a more advanced kind of LCD display. But the specifications are the same for each device: a diagonal of 6.5 inches, a Full HD+ resolution, and a 90 Hz refresh rate. The phones are equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint reader for authentication and they have a single punch hole on the front.

Hardware/Software

The most advanced phone if we talk about the hardware department is the Realme 8 5G. It has the same processor as the Redmi Note 10T 5G: an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 700 built with a 7 nm production process and belonging to the mid-end segment (low-end if we only consider 5G phones). But the amount of RAM is higher: in the most expensive configuration, it comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 native storage. The Redmi Note 10T 5G goes up to 6 GB of RAM, but it features UFS 2.2 storage. The three handsets run Android 11 out of the box.

Camera

If you need the best camera phone, you should go for the OPPO A54 5G without thinking twice. It has a brighter focal aperture for the main 48 MP sensor and it adds an 8 MP ultrawide camera, unlike Redmi Note 10T 5G and Realme 8 5G. Further, it has the best front camera with a 16 MP resolution and an f/2.0 focal aperture.

Battery

These phones come with the same battery capacity: 5000 mAh. And given that the components are similar, you should not expect important differences in terms of battery life. Note that OPPO A54 5G lacks fast charging, while Redmi Note 10T 5G and Realme 8 5G support it.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10T 5G vs OPPO A54 5G vs Realme 8 5G: Price

You can actually find OPPO A54 5G and Realme 8 5G for less than €200/$240 in the global market, while in India they start from Rs. 13,990 and Rs. 15,499 online. Redmi Note 10T 5G is priced at Rs. 14,999 in India and it is still not available globally. Overall, the OPPO A54 5G is slightly more interesting (even though not for everyone): despite it lacks fast charging and it has an inferior chipset, it comes with better cameras.

Probably a lot of people did not expect a so affordable 5G device from a brand like Samsung, but it became very evident how the Korean giant wants to fight the Chinese concurrency with all of its strength. That is why we think it is a great moment to compare the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G with the other entry-level 5G phones. Among the most affordable 5G devices sold in the global market, you have the Realme 8 5G and the OPPO A54 5G. Here is a specs comparison between three of the cheapest but valid 5G phones out there.

Design

Samsung Galaxy A22 5G does not provide an amazing design. Just like its two rivals, it is entirely built of plastic, but its design looks more outdated. Instead of a punch-hole display, it comes with a waterdrop notch and it has thicker bezels around the screen. The OPPO A54 5G is definitely more attractive not only for its punch-hole display but also because it comes in catchier color variants. The Realme 8 5G is nice as well, despite I personally prefer the design of the OPPO A54 5G.

Display

The OPPO A54 5G is equipped with the most advanced display: an LTPS panel with a Full HD+ resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate. With the Realme 8 5G, you get an IPS display with a Full HD+ resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate which sits in the middle. The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G is Full HD+ and 90 Hz as well, but it has a TFT panel. Each of these phones comes with a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

Hardware/Software

The most advanced hardware setup belongs to the Realme 8 5G. It is powered by the Dimensity 700 mobile platform built at 7 nm paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of UFS 2.1 native storage which you can furtherly expand through a micro SD dedicated slot. Right after, we got the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G with a Dimensity 700 chipset and memory configuration up to 8/128 GB, but it has no UFS 2.1 storage. With the OPPO A54 5G you get Snapdragon 480, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of native storage. All the phones run Android 11 with customized UIs.

Camera

If you need the most advanced camera department, you should go for the OPPO A54 5G. All of these phones come with a 48 MP main camera sporting an f/1.8 focal aperture, but the OPPO A54 5G has better secondary sensors, including an 8 MP ultrawide camera, a 2 MP macro camera, and a 2 MP depth sensor. Realme 8 5G lacks an ultrawide camera, while Samsung Galaxy A22 5G has an inferior ultrawide sensor and it lacks a dedicated macro camera.

Battery

Samsung Galaxy A22 5G, Realme 8 5G, and Samsung Galaxy A22 5G are equipped with 5000 mAh batteries and provide a great battery life, but the OPPO A54 5G lacks fast charging, unlike its two opponents.

Samsung Galaxy A22 5G vs OPPO A54 5G vs Realme 8 5G: Price

Samsung Galaxy A22 5G is priced €230/$279 in its base variant, Realme 8 5G starts from €199/$241, and OPPO A54 5G costs €269/$326 (Europe). The OPPO A54 5G is definitely the best device if we exclude the fact that it only comes in a 4/64 GB configuration, but the Realme 8 5G has the highest value for money.

It packs impressive specifications if we consider its listing price. But is it the best cheap 5G phone you can currently get in the global market?
Design

The POCO M3 Pro 5G is the handset with the most original design in the trio, especially in the POCO Yellow color variant. But with the OPPO A54 5G, you actually get a thinner body. The Realme 8 5G is the most lightweight one. There is no real winner between these devices if we consider the design: it is mostly a matter of taste. All are made of polycarbonate, so you do not get premium materials. Even the dimensions are more or less the same. They all sport a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

Display

All of these phones come with LCD displays sporting a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a diagonal of 6.5 inches, and a 90 Hz refresh rate. But with the OPPO A54 5G you get a slightly better panel with the LTPS technology. Given that we are talking about average IPS displays, do not expect a huge image quality. But they are more than sufficient for every user. With the POCO M3 Pro 5G, you get a lower brightness, so while the OPPO A54 5G takes the crown, the second place goes to the Realme 8 5G.

Hardware/Software

On the paper, the MediaTek Dimensity 700 found on the POCO M3 Pro 5G and Realme 8 5G is a better processor if compared to the Snapdragon 480 5G found on the OPPO A54 5G. Further, with the OPPO A54 5G you get just 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of native storage. The best hardware setup is provided by the Realme 8 5G which sports up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. But you should not underestimate the POCO M3 Pro 5G with its UFS 2.2 storage, despite it packs a max of 6 GB of RAM. All the phones run Android 11 out of the box with customized user interfaces.

Camera

The OPPO A54 5G has the most advanced cameras. It packs a quad camera including a 48 MP main sensor with a brighter f/1.7 focal aperture, an 8 MP ultrawide sensor, and a pair of 2 MP sensors for macros and depth calculation. Unfortunately, the POCO M3 Pro 5G and the Realme 8 5G lack an ultrawide camera. Further, they do not have a focal aperture as bright as the OPPO A54 5G. With the POCO M3 Pro 5G, you even get an inferior 8 MP front camera.

Battery

The POCO M3 Pro 5G, the OPPO A54 5G, and the Realme 8 5G come with the same battery capacity: 5000 mAh. But the POCO M3 Pro 5G and the Realme 8 5G should have a lower energy consumption due to the 7 nm production process of the Dimensity 700. Further, you should consider that OPPO A54 5G lacks fast charging, so it takes a bit more to charge its battery.

Xiaomi POCO M3 Pro 5G vs OPPO A54 5G vs Realme 8 5G: Price

POCO M3 Pro 5G’s prices start from €159/$194, OPPO A54 5G costs €269/$328, and Realme 8 5G is priced at €199/$242. While OPPO A54 5G is definitely a more convincing device, with the Realme 8 5G and the POCO M3 Pro 5G (which is the weakest one in terms of overall specs) you get a higher value for money.

We are talking about the new models from the A series: OPPO A54 5G, OPPO A74 5G, and OPPO A94 5G. Until now, these are the only devices from the A series launched by OPPO in the European market this year. In order to clear your ideas about their specifications, we decided to write a comparison between these devices. Here you will learn all the main specifications and what changes between each model.

Design

If we exclude the color variants, OPPO A54 5G and OPPO A74 5G have the same design, the same weight and the same dimensions. They come with a punch-hole display and a polycarbonate body, as well as a rectangular camera module and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The OPPO A94 5G is slightly different and definitely better than its internal rivals. With the OPPO A94 5G, you still get a polycarbonate body and a punch-hole display, but it is a thinner and lighter phone with a thickness of 7.8 mm and a weight of 173 grams.

Display

The OPPO A54 5G and the OPPO A74 5G share the same display: an LTPS IPS panel with a diagonal of 6.5 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, and a 90 Hz refresh rate. It is a pretty nice display, but an average panel. If you need something better in terms of image quality, you should go for the OPPO A94 5G. You get a standard refresh rate with this handset, but on the other hand, it has an AMOLED display with brighter colors and deeper blacks. The diagonal is 6.43 inches, so the phone is more compact, while the resolution remains Full HD+. The OPPO A94 5G has an important additional feature: an in-display fingerprint scanner which makes authentication more comfortable.

Hardware/Software

The OPPO A54 and the OPPO A74 5G are powered by the Snapdragon 480 mobile platform that is the most entry-level 5G chipset by Qualcomm. They differ when it comes to the memory configurations: the OPPO A54 5G has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, while OPPO A74 5G packs 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. With the OPPO A94 5G, you get a more powerful chipset: the upper-midrange SoC Dimensity 800U by Mediatek, paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage. All the phones feature an expansion slot and run Android 11 customized by ColorOS 11.1.

Camera

OPPO A54 5G, OPPO A74 5G, and OPPO A94 5G feature the same rear cameras: a 48 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide camera, and a pair of 2 MP sensors for macros and depth. Nothing special, but nothing disappointing.

Battery

OPPO A54 5G and OPPO A74 5G are superior when it comes to battery life, thanks to a 5000 mAh battery. Unfortunately, the OPPO A54 5G does not support fast charging, while the A74 has 18W fast charging. But the OPPO A94 5G wins the fast charging comparison with a power of 30W.

OPPO A54 5G vs OPPO A74 5G vs OPPO A94 5G: Price

OPPO A54 5G costs €269 in Europe, OPPO A74 5G is priced at €299, and OPPO A94 5G costs €369. The OPPO A94 5G is definitely a more interesting handset due to its AMOLED display, better design, and faster charging, but it has a smaller battery. OPPO A54 5G and A74 5G only differ in the color variants and memory configuration.

OPPO A54 5G – SPECIFICATIONS & FEATURES

The two new smartphones surprisingly pack similar hardware and design, leaving us bewildered as to why OPPO decided to launch the models separately. The major difference between the two is the amount of RAM and storage available on both. While the A54 5G comes with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of expandable UFS 2.1 flash storage, the A74 5G has a single 6GB RAM version with 128GB of expandable storage.

OPPO A54 5G

In terms of the specs, the OPPO A54 5G features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD screen with FHD+ resolution and support for a 90Hz refresh rate. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset which supports 5G connectivity.

For photography, the A54 5G packs a quad-camera setup at the rear and this includes a 48MP main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 2MP macro lens, and 2MP depth sensor. At the front, there is a 16MP selfie camera etched on the punch-hole located at the top left side of the display.

The phone gets its juice from a 5000mAh battery which unfortunately doesn’t support fast charging. The interface is provided by the Android 11-based ColorOS 11.1. For connectivity, the A54 5G comes with WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth, and NFC. There is equally a side-mounted fingerprint sensor on board for biometric authentication.

As usual, we have entries from well-known brands like OPPO, Xiaomi, Redmi, realme, Nokia, and a few surprises from companies like Sony and TCL. So without wasting your time, let’s dive into it straight away.

Redmi Gaming Smartphone

Gaming smartphones have their own niche audience and companies like ASUS, Nubia, Black Shark never fail to tap into the excitement. However, they are going to have a new entry and probably a potential rival, Redmi.

Redmi’s Product Director Wang Teng has confirmed that the company will hold a launch event this month and rumors are rife that the star of the show could be the Redmi’s first gaming phone. So far, we know that a device with model number M2104K10C/M2104K10I under respective brands Redmi/POCO could be the upcoming device.

It is confirmed to feature MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset something that we saw in the likes of realme GT Neo as well.

Samsung Galaxy F12, F02s

Samsung is beginning the month by launching two devices under the F-series- Galaxy F12, Galaxy F02s on April 5. Teasers so far hint that they share a lot of specs with the already launched Galaxy M12 and M02s.

Reports reveal that it could be a rebadged version of the iQOO U3 which means it could come with a Dimensity 800U chipset with 5G support. Let’s hope that Vivo doesn’t skip any further.

Oppo A74 4G & 5G, A94 & A54 5G

OPPO is said to bring the remaining devices of the OPPO Axx series and it might happen this month. The company has already unveiled the OPPO A54 4G version already. Next in line could be the OPPO A74, A54, and A94 5G models.

The OPPO A74 4G is said to come in certain markets as rebranded OPPO F19 while the 5G version could have Snapdragon 480 chipset.

On the other hand, the OPPO A94 5G could be the OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G for Europe whereas OPPO A54 5G is said to be a rebadged version of OPPO A93 5G.

Huawei P50 series

When it comes to Huawei, things haven’t been so smooth lately. The company is struggling a lot to gather the supply chain after the US ban and it is hitting them hard. Previously rumored to come this month, the launch of the Huawei P50 series looks to be a far cry for now.

However, anything can happen in between so let’s hope that Huawei turns tables to come back stronger.
