Oppo has been actively working on Android 16 and ColorOS 16 for months, and now it appears the brand is finally closing in on the stable release. It has just begun the ColorOS 16 Open Beta program, which is the final stage before the stable rollout. The program is currently limited to some high-end devices, including the Oppo Find X8, Find X8 Pro, and Reno 14.

The ColorOS 16 Open Beta program is available for Find X8, Find X8 Pro, and Reno 14 users in India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Interested users can apply to be a part of this program until October 13. Unlike closed beta or early beta build, the Open Beta is generally available to a wider audience. So, participants have a higher chance of getting early access to the latest features and upgrades ahead of the public rollout.

Here’s how to apply for the ColorOS 16 Open Beta program

It’s important to note that the open beta builds are generally safer and more stable than preview builds or closed beta builds; however, they are still beta builds and hence may contain bugs, errors, and stability problems. You must also back up important data to prevent data loss due to firmware failure or any other technical difficulties.

1. Make sure your phone is updated to the detectable version:
   • Oppo Find X8: CPH2651_15.0.0.860(EX01)
   • Oppo Find X8 Pro: CPH2659_15.0.0.860(EX01)
   • Oppo Reno 14: CPH2737_15.0.2.602(EX01)

Another important point to keep in mind is that the device performs heavy optimizations in the background after a major upgrade is installed, which generally leads to a faster battery drain. Don’t worry about that if it happens. It usually takes a day or two for the battery consumption to return to normal.

Oppo was one of the first brands to release Android 16 beta, which was a pretty early build, limited only to Find X8 users. The first beta arrived in April this year, followed by additional betas over the coming weeks and months. In August, the ColorOS 16 Closed Beta program went live, and now it’s time for the Open Beta experience. This is the final stage of the beta testing phase, indicating the imminent release of the stable build. Assuming no last-minute critical bugs, the ColorOS 16 stable rollout should begin later this month. We’ll have concrete details about the stable release and rollout schedule on September 15, when Oppo will launch ColorOS 16 globally.

And let’s not forget the front-facing camera. The 32-megapixel selfie camera captures detailed and well-exposed self-portraits with good colour accuracy and dynamic range. While it lacks autofocus, it generally produces pleasing results, making it suitable for both casual selfies and video calls.

The Quick Button, a haptic-sensitive control on the side of the phone, offers a fast and intuitive way to launch the camera and control basic functions like zoom and shutter release. However, I did not prefer using it quite often. Rather, I prefer to slide zoom-wheel out using my thumb and switch betwen zoom options.

The Oppo Find X8 Pro comes with other notable features, such as an x-axis linear motor, NFC, studio-level quad microphones, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB-C) port, AI LinkBoost, triple Wi-Fi 7 antenna, NFC, and an alert slider.

We just put up our Unboxing and Hands on video of the Huawei Mate 70 Pro. This smartphone is the brand’s latest flagship smartphone. But how does it compare to some other premium phones from China, which recently had their global debut? Here’s a quick comparison of the Mate 70 Pro with the Oppo Find X8 Pro and Vivo X200 Pro.

Design & Display

All three models are flagship grade smartphone models, which offer a premium feel. The form factor and screen are subjective, so it’s harder to find an objectively better phone here. The Mate 70 Pro, Find X8 Pro, and X200 Pro feature an aluminum frame and glass body. The smartphones support an IP68 and IP69 rating for water and dust resistance. These devices have a large circular camera module on the rear.

Although there’s a slight difference in screen size. None of these are compact flagship phones, but the Find X8 Pro and X200 Pro have a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 4500 nits of peak brightness. Meanwhile, the Mate 70 Pro packs a taller 6.9-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, and 2500 nits of peak brightness. So while the other two are brighter, one has a slightly taller display panel.

Specifications

Both the Vivo X200 Pro and Oppo Find X8 Pro are premium smartphones with cutting edge specs. The duo are equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC. These make it one of the fastest Android phones. However, the Mate 70 Pro is powered by a Kirin 9020 chipset. This processor isn’t bringing a major upgrade in performance. So the Mate 70 Pro still trails behind in this regard.

With the release of the HarmonyOS Next, Huawei is finally moving away from Android. A massive 6,000mAh battery pack powers the X200 Pro, while the Find X8 Pro has a 5,910mAh cell. Once again, the Mate 70 Pro lags behind with the smallest but still respectable 5,500mAh battery pack. But Huawei leads the pack with a 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging. Camera

Photography is one area where Huawei is renowned. But in recent years, many Chinese brands have started catching up. The Vivo X200 Pro and Oppo Find X8 Pro placed an emphasis on camera performance, with the former’s Zeiss APO Telephoto lens offering impressive zoom photography on a smartphone. For the main sensor, the Sony LYT808 on the Find X8 Pro and X200 Pro should offer similar levels of performance. But without a doubt, these are two flagship level camera phones.

Huawei isn’t bringing similar levels of ground breaking camera tech upgrades on the Mate 70 Pro. But it seems to be refining the overall experience. Its telephoto lens isn’t as versatile as its competitors, but the 50MP main sensor with a variable aperture gives it an edge in still shots in varying lighting scenarios.

So depending on your preference, your choice between the three might differ. If you want a true flagship experience with a display, camera, and more, the Mate 70 Pro could be for you in China. The Oppo Find X8 images reveal that it will be available in four shades: black, white, blue, and pink. On the other hand, the Find X8 Pro images confirm that it will be released in shades like black, white, and blue.

According to reports, the OPPO Find X8 is a smaller device with a 6.6-inch display, whereas the Pro variant has a 6.78-inch screen. While the displays appear flat, they actually have a micro-quad-curved design. As can be seen, both seem to have equal-sized ultra-thin bezels.

He further said that the term “effortless” conjures up a vivid picture of a user scenario in which you simply press the shutter to capture the beauty in front of you, leaving the rest to Oppo.

He revealed that the company has eliminated the unnecessary camera icon button on the lock screen of the Find X8 series. Now, when there is an exciting moment to be captured, users need to simply press the dedicated physical shutter button, without fumbling through various “sport/snapshot” modes to capture specific types of photos. For the sake of “effortlessness,” the company even challenged an impossible optical design, breaking the stereotype of bulky flagship cameras and making the photography-focused OPPO Find X8 series remarkably thin and light for the first time.

Dubbed the “Quick Launch” button (machine-translation), it is available on the right edge of the device, similar to the Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 series, as shown in the image shared by Oppo Find series product manager Zhou Yibao.
