The OPPO K3 got access to the Android 11-based ColorOS 11 Beta update in India at the end of July. A month later, the smartphone has now started receiving the ColorOS 11 stable update in the region. The rollout is happening following the schedule shared by OPPO earlier this month.

A few weeks back, OPPO revealed the ColorOS 11 Stable update timeline for August 2021. According to the plan, only OPPO K3 is supposed to receive the stable update in India. Hence, the update is now being seeded out to this device.

The Android 11 stable update for OPPO K3 arrives with firmware version CPH1955_11_F.11. Like any other OTA system update, it is being rolled out in batches.

Hence, some users might get access to the update earlier than others. For instance, the stable build initially went live for users who were running the beta build. Slowly, it has now begun to reach regular users. It should be available for all the users in the following weeks.

OPPO launched the OPPO K3 with ColorOS 6.x based on Android 9.0 Pie. The handset got ColorOS 7.x update based on Android 10 last year. This means ColorOS 11 (Android 11) is the phone’s second major update will be mostly its last ever major system update as per OPPO’s software update track record.

OPPO has been updating its devices to ColorOS 11 based on Android 11 since September 2020. As per the update plan for July 2021, only a single device in India will get the beta update this month. That device is OPPO K3 and beta registrations for it are already live for the past few days and should have probably ended by the time you will be reading this.

According to the ColorOS 11 update plan for the month of July 2021, OPPO was supposed to open beta registrations for the OPPO K3 in India from July 28 (yesterday). However, that did not happen.

As per an official announcement post on ColorOS Community, the company opened registrations days earlier on July 22. Hence, the registrations are scheduled to end by July 29 (today). Thankfully, there will be more batches for interested users.

In order to participate, users need to be on the firmware version C.16. To enroll, they will have to head over to Settings > Software Update > Gear Icon > Apply for Beta Version > Update Beta Version and follow the on-screen instructions. The beta build will be rolled out to applicants via OTA if they get selected.

The OPPO K3 debuted with ColorOS 6.x based on Android 9.0 Pie. The smartphone was updated to Android 10-based ColorOS 7.x last year. Going by OPPO’s update track record, ColorOS 11 (Android 11) should be its second and last major update.

In April, Oppo updated 17 of its smartphones to stable ColorOS 7 build in China. The list included all the premium and mid-premium devices. Now, the company has shared an update timeline for its mid-range and budget smartphones. These handsets will be receiving the OTA by the end of May.

The below-listed models are the third batch of handsets to receive stable ColorOS 7 stable update in China. 

For the unware, Oppo already has a new version of its mobile software called ColorOS 7.1. This incremental version is only available on the company’s latest flagship smartphones – Find X2 and Find X2 Pro as well as the newly launched Oppo Ace 2. The brand is yet to reveal which devices will get this update

ColorOS 7 was announced way back in November 2019 but only now the company is rolling out stable updates to its devices. The new software update, apart from bringing new features, also bumps up the underlying Android to version 10.

Earlier this week, OPPO had confirmed that it will be selling the new Radio Blue color variant for the OPPO K3 from Aug. 1 in China. The day has arrived, and the company has started the sales of the Radio Blue edition of the OPPO K3. The Chinese manufacturer is also selling OPPO K3 Radio Blue ChinaJoy custom gift box edition at its dedicated store at Tmall.

The OPPO K3 Radio Blue version comes in two models such as 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 128 Gb storage are respectively priced are 1,499 Yuan and 1,799 Yuan. These pricing include 100 Yuan discount for the first order. The new model will be selling alongside other color variants such as Nebula Purple, Morning White and Dark Black.

ChinaJoy is the biggest gaming and digital entertainment expo in China. It is also known as the China Digital Entertainment Expo and Conference. This year it will be held between Aug. 2 and Aug. 5. Ahead of ChinaJoy 2019 event, OPPO has introduced OPPO K3 Radio Blue ChinaJoy custom gift box edition today. It is available for purchase through OPPO’s store on Tmall.

It comes in special custom package that includes the OPPO K3 Radio Blue handset, a VOOC 3.0 charger, a Gundam edition power bank, a cable, a case and a SIM ejector pin. The custom edition carries a price tag of 2,099 Yuan and it features 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

A new color variant of the K3 has been announced for the Chinese audience. Dubbed as Radio Blue, the new variant will be available to Chinese customers from August 1.

The Radio Blue color option is available on two variants. One with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage, and the other with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Oppo K3 vs Oppo Reno Z vs Oppo A9X

Design

Oppo K3 has the most stunning form factor. Despite it is not part of the Reno line-up, its back cover looks like the ones on Reno devices. And it even comes with a pop-up camera which helps to minimize the bezels without the aid of a classic waterdrop notch. If we exclude the K3, I personally prefer the Reno Z because it offers a cleaner glass back thanks to its in-display fingerprint reader. The design of the A9x looks more outdated due to the presence of a single module for the dual camera setup and a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. It even comes with a lower screen-to-body ratio.

Display

The level of detail offered by these handsets’ displays is pretty much the same, but the overall performance changes when it comes to color reproduction. Oppo K3 and Oppo Reno Z are way better because they sport an AMOLED display, and the Reno Z wins the comparison due to the support to the HDR10 technology. On the other hand, you should note that the Reno Z has a slightly smaller display than K3 and it comes with a waterdrop notch, unlike the K3. Oppo A9x still comes with an above-average display, but it looks like an inferior IPS panel.

Specs & Software

Despite the MediaTek Helio P90 found on the Reno Z is a more recent chipset with a higher base frequency, the Snapdragon 710 by Qualcomm which you can find on the Oppo K3 is a more powerful SoC. Further, the K3 is equipped with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage in its most expensive configuration, while Reno Z stops at 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. The A9x has an even less powerful chipset than Reno Z: an older Helio P70 and just 6 GB of RAM. Unlike its rivals, it sports a micro SD slot, but it loses the comparison because of its weaker hardware side. Each handset has both Android 9 Pie and Color OS 6 out of the box.

Camera

While Oppo K3 has the best hardware, it definitely comes with the worst camera department. The winner here is the Oppo Reno Z with its 48 MP dual camera, a bright f/1.7 aperture and a 5 MP depth sensor. Oppo A9x still offers a 48 MP dual camera, but the secondary sensor is an inferior one with a lower 2 MP resolution. Further, the Reno Z has a way better selfie camera with a resolution of 32 MP. So, there is no challenge, Reno Z is way more interesting.

Battery

With a capacity of more than 4000 mAh, Oppo Reno Z and A9x have the biggest batteries. But which one lasts more? Well, the Reno Z offers a longer battery life in a lot of scenarios because it comes with a smaller and more efficient AMOLED display, as well as a more efficient chipset. Oppo K3 is equipped with an AMOLED display as well, but its battery is smaller with a 3765 mAh capacity, so there is no way it can reach the overall battery life of the Reno Z.

Price

Here is the element which should mostly influence your final decision. As you had the chance to understand, the Oppo Reno Z is an overall better device under most of the point of views. It rocks a better display, way better cameras, and even higher battery life, despite it is powered by a lower-end chipset and less RAM than the Oppo K3. But it costs a lot more: the Reno Z starts from €330/$370, while Oppo K3 costs just €210/$235 and Oppo A9x starts from €260/$290 (we are referring to listing prices). OPPO has just teased the launch of the K3 smartphone in India, nearly three months after launching the device in China. News of the launch went viral, soon after a teaser page went live on Amazon India. The OPPO K3 is the successor to last year’s OPPO K1. It features a powerful Snapdragon SoC along with a pop-up camera and notch-less display.

According to the teaser, the OPPO K3 gets a Fullscreen AMOLED display, with Eye Protection mode, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The screen-to-body ratio on the smartphone is a whopping 91.9%. The other teaser image available on the retailer site has “Coming Soon” message. 

OPPO K3 Specifications and Features

The OPPO K3 features a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2340-pixel resolution and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The display is slightly bigger than the 6.4-inch unit on the K1. The K3 gets Gorilla Glass 5 certification for additional safety.

All of which are aimed at improving gaming performance. The device also supports Link Boost 2.0, which optimizes network performance on the device.

OPPO yesterday unveiled the much-anticipated OPPO K3 premium smartphone. The K3 has been a regular in leaks which had shown us the renders as well as the key specs. But in real life, the design and build beat our expectations. Chinese news blog MyDrivers have published a hands-on review of the K3. OPPO K3 could be confused for a flagship phone, considering the premium build alone. Thus, even if it is used up to 100 times a day, it will still last up to five years before the need to replace arises. The rear panel is made of glass with a colourful 3D gradient body.

To recap about the internals, the K3 features 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and comes with up to 256 GB of UFS2.1 flash storage. Yesterday, OPPO released a press render of the device to show us what it looks like. More renders have surfaced and they reveal the phone in all three color variants.
