Last year, OPPO had launched OPPO R11s and R11s Plus smartphones with upgraded specifications in the latter half of 2017 after launching the OPPO R11 and R11 Plus phones in June. Hence, the rumor mill been speculating that the upgraded OPPO R15s and R15s Pro may arrive in the next few months since the company had launched OPPO R15 and R15 Pro phones in March this year. Kumamoto Technology, a leakster from China has shared an image seems to have been snapped during a media event in the country. OPPO seems to be one of the sponsors of the event as the banners of the company can be seen in the image. What’s interesting about the image is that it features R17 billboards too. This suggests that the company has already started teasing the R17 smartphone in the home country. Probably, it may launch OPPO R17 and R17 Pro as the successor editions of R15 and R15 Pro.

As of this writing, there is no information available on the specs of the OPPO R17. In the recent, multiple Chinese leaksters including Kumamoto Technology have claimed that OPPO and Vivo could be the first companies to launch smartphones with 10 GB of RAM. Apart from sharing the above image, the leakster has once again shared his previous Weibo post in which he had claimed that smartphone featuring 10 GB RAM may launch by the end of the year.

He could be hinting that the OPPO R17 will come with 10 GB of RAM. However, it seems unlikely because the R15 duo feature 6 GB of RAM. Since the R-series of devices are not flagship phones from the company, there is a possibility that there could be another 2018 flagship phone from the company that will feature 10 GB of RAM. It is speculated that it could be equipped with Snapdragon 710 SoC.

OPPO is among the top three phone makers in China presently in terms of smartphone shipments and still jostle for the top 5 spot in the global market. The company recently went official with OPPO R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition. Both new smartphones went on sale for the first time on April 1 and the official information from the BKK-owned OPPO indicates that the R15 has created a new sales record for the company in China.

A perusal of the opening day sales figures on the Jingdong, Tmall, and Suning showed a record sales exceeding that of the R11. However, we are not privy to the sales figures so as to make our independent analysis and comparison. OPPO’s models have always enjoyed good sales outing and the R15 seems not to be an exception. The trend has been a long streak right from the time of the OPPO R9. In January 2017, just two months after the R9S was released, OPPO revealed that it had sold almost 3 million units in China alone. The model was also crowned by Sino research as the top selling smartphone by a Chinese manufacturer. The first day sale of the R9s on Jingdong was broken by the R11 in just 40 minutes and the model did go on to record stunning feats in terms of sales volumes. That record may likely be shattered by the R15 considering its new design and amazing hardware lineup.

Ever since Apple released the iPhone X, people have been split about its notch design. Some consider this design to be a revolution, enabling a near bezel-less front but there are others who consider the same notch as ugly. Irrespective of what you feel about this notch, it looks like the iPX’s notch design is here to stay. Major manufacturers have started to adopt this design on their smartphones and you might have to get used to seeing it on a number of flagships this year. After today’s little teaser, add OPPO to the list as well.

OPPO has never been shy of copying Apple’s design in the past, and even this time around, the company has decided to adopt the iPX design for its upcoming OPPO R15 and OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition flagships. The company confirmed the names of the new models earlier today with a small teaser image, which also shows us that these two models are going to adopt the notch design. The front of the phone is clearly visible in this image, especially the notch and the phone has a small chin at the bottom. So, the screen to body ratio should be less than that of its inspiration.

Apart from the notch design, the OPPO R15 is expected to feature an advanced facial recognition tech. It could be similar to what Apple does, unlike other software based recognition technologies, but we can’t be sure at the moment. Other rumored features include gesture enabled virtual home button, vertically stacked dual cameras, and Color OS 4.0 with Android 8.1 Oreo. There’s also speculation that the new R15 models will feature the upcoming Snapdragon 670 chipset, but as of now, there’s no confirmation about the same.

In the past couple of years, OPPO’s R series has been an important lineup for the company, driving maximum sales in the premium mid-range segment. If the company wants to continue the same sales this year, it will have to make sure that the new OPPO R15 manages to attract customers with its innovative features.

The company is yet to reveal an official date for the OPPO R15 launch, but since its been teased, expect an announcement before the end of the month.
