A survey result by Sino research has shown that the OPPO R9S released late last year is the most popular domestic smartphone brand in China. The R9S outpaced popular brands like the iPhone 7 and has a single phone market share of 5%. In terms of popularity, the OPPO R9S is followed by Vivo X9 and then iPhone 7 and others.

The survey also showed that 78.7% of young phone users between the age of 18 – 23 years prefer the R9S and as a result, the OPPO smartphone has the highest sales in Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai. Also interesting of note is the trend where iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 users replaced their phones with the R9S.

Before this latest report, the OPPO R9S has been a high flying model, revealed to have grossed over 3 million units in sales in January 2017 alone. The OPPO R9S isn’t a very cheap smartphone, priced at 2799 Yuan ($416) but its great design and rich specs lineup make it a hot selling piece. The company has continued to refresh the line in order to make it more appealing to more persons by adding a red variant and recently a fresh green colour variant.

As a reminder, the R9S comes with a 16MP Sony IMX398 sensor at the rear, which is said to be jointly developed by OPPO and Sony. The sensor is reportedly fast and comparable to SLR camera speeds and there is also dual-core focus as well as dual LED flash on board. The R9S is powered by a Snapdragon 625 chipset backed by a 4GB RAM and there is 64GB storage among other features.

Recently, a red color variant was added to the R9S lineup and now the company has announced a fresh Green color variant of the R9S via Weibo. This brings the number of colors the R9S is available on to five which include Rose Gold, Gold, Black, Red and now Green color.

The world is going green and in getting on with the tide, OPPO joins Huawei who also added a new green paint job to the P10 range of colors. The OPPO R9S fresh green variant still retains the design of the other variants but of course, the new gives a different perspective to the device’s look. The antenna band looks almost none existent as the color scheme does a good job of masking it well.

On the specs end, the device packs the same lineup as the original R9S, sporting a 5.5-inch 1080p display with the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection which should provide better resistance against drops. Inside, the R9S is running the Snapdragon 625 chipset, a much better upgrade as compared to the Helio P10 chipset in the OPPO R9. As for memory, there is a 4GB RAM and 64GB of ROM setup. Further, the R9S packs a 16MP Sony IMX398 sensor at the rear, which is said to be jointly developed by OPPO and Sony. The sensor is reportedly fast and “comparable to SLR camera speeds” and comes with tailored features. There is also dual-core focus and dual LED flash onboard. The device also features a 16MP sensor up front as well. As for the software, the OPPO R9S runs on the company’s ColorOS 3.0 version. Inside, there is a decent 3010mAh battery but with VOOC fast charging, the battery shouldn’t be an issue on the device.

The OPPO R9S fresh Green color variant will be officially unveiled on March 19. The price of the new color variant is not yet known but it isn’t expected to be higher than the 2799 Yuan ($416) price tag of other variants.

OPPO has been teasing its new flagship smartphone, the OPPO R9S for the past few days. And now, the company has officially taken the wraps off not one, but two new devices, namely the OPPO R9S and the OPPO R9S Plus. Both the devices are capable upgrades to the popular R9 series which has managed to sell very well in China as well as internationally under the name OPPO F1 Plus.

The basic design of the OPPO R9S remains the same as its predecessor, but it features a new split antenna design. The company had already confirmed this in one of its teasers, but now, it has revealed more details about the design. So, there are three super narrow antenna lines at the back (0.3mm wide), instead of one thick line. This makes it less visible, thereby giving the overall design a seamless look. The company says that this has also helped it to increase the proportion of metal in the phone to 98.8%.  The new design is also said to improve the Wi-Fi signal, and now, the coverage is said to be better.

Coming to the specs, the OPPO R9S comes with the same 5.5-inch 1080p display, however, this time, you have the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. This should provide better resistance against drops, as much as 80% intact rate at 1.6m drop, much better than previous generations. Inside, the R9S is running the Snapdragon 625 chipset, a much better upgrade as compared to the Helio P10 chipset in the previous generation. This new chip should also ensure better GPU performance than the R9 model. As for memory, there will be 4GB RAM and 64GB of ROM.

The camera has been one of the best-selling features of the OPPO R9 and the company has made sure that it remains the same with its update. The OPPO R9S comes with the 16MP Sony IMX398 sensor, which is said to be jointly developed by OPPO and Sony. The sensor is reportedly fast and “comparable to SLR camera speeds” and comes with tailored features. The company also revealed that the pixel area is upgraded and the amount of light reaching the sensor has increased up to 2 times. Further with the help of dual-core focus, the camera can focus 40% faster than PDAF.

Even the aperture size is large, and f/1.7 aperture will ensure great low light images. Further with the help of multi-frame noise reduction technology and large aperture, low light images should be clear, with limited noise. So camera lovers should be happy with the performance of the new R9S. Up front, you get a 16MP sensor as well.

As for the software, the OPPO R9S runs on the company’s ColorOS 3.0 version. Inside, there is a decent 3010mAh battery but with VOOC fast charging, the battery shouldn’t be an issue on the device.

The OPPO R9S will go on sale on October 28 for 2799 Yuan ($416). There are three color options available, gold, rose gold and black.

After the success of the OPPO R9 spurred by its fast charging feature, it is hardly surprising that OPPO’s expected R9S is planning to come with even more fast charging capability. The OPPO R9S was rumored to drop on September 12 but that’s come and gone and nothing happened.

However, a new leak has emerged from China’s Weibo platform about the expected OPPO R9S. It is now rumored that the OPPO R9S will now drop sometime in October and that the new smartphone will feature on the camera end, image stabilization technology powered by a new OPPO SmartSensor. Apart from that the phone will feature the company’s new ultra-fast Super VOOC fast charging technology, which would give the device the capacity to deliver up to 10 hours of talk time with just 5 minutes charge time.

Furthermore, as had earlier been leaked, the OPPO R9S is likely to get a new design without visible antenna band and this design concept comes in a way that signal isn’t affected. We’ll get to see more of that when the smartphone pops.

The R9S had also cleared TENAA not too long ago, posting a device retaining the same 5.5-inch 1080p display with the R9. However, the R9S will be seeing a shift on the processor end, sporting a Snapdragon 625 chipset as against the Helio P10 on the R9.

OPPO R9 turned out to be the company’s best-seller this year, with over 10 million units being sold in the past few months. Now, we are all looking forward to the OPPO R9S, the successor to this model and it looks like the launch might be much closer than we thought.

According to the latest information from China, the OPPO R9S will be released on September 12 i.e. next Monday. The new device is said to feature the company’s ultra-fast Super VOOC fast charging technology, which it first showed off at MWC Barcelona. However, that probably won’t be the only highlight feature of the device, as it is said that the OPPO R9S will feature a special “No Antenna Band” design. We had seen a patent of OPPO’s new design recently and the same could be used on the new device.

As for the specs, the OPPO R9S will reportedly come with the Snapdragon 625 chipset instead of Helio P10. The display should be the same as before, a 5.5-inch panel with 1080p resolution. At the front, you should find a 16MP shooter while at the back, a 13MP sensor. Other possible features include 2850mAh battery and dual SIM dual standby with entire network support in China.

OPPO R9s, the next big thing from China’s second largest smartphone maker OPPO, has received certification from the Chinese Telecoms regulatory agency TENAA. We had earlier reported that the R9s could likely be released in September ahead of China’s National Day celebration, the TENAA listing tends to reaffirm that assertion.

The OPPO R9s is a follow-up to the highly successful OPPO R9 smartphone which saw the sales of OPPO’s smartphones more than double for both the first and second quarter of 2016. The TENAA listing only gave little details about the device listed as OPPO R9km, but the accompanying image render shows some similarity in design to the expected OPPO R9s.

The Oppo R9s features a thin metal body just like the R9, and should run on Android M. It is said that the phone comes with the new super VOOC fast charging feature that can charge the battery full in 15 minutes. But the main difference between the two phone models is that Oppo R9s will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset instead of the MediaTek Helio P10 found on the R9 model.

The Snapdragon 625 processor uses 14nm process which is said to give the R9s a top of the pack performance and provide power efficiency and there is an Adreno 506 GPU which powers the graphics. The teaser hints that camera will yet again be the highlight of the new generation model. OPPO R9 had a powerful 16MP camera up front and 13MP shooter at the back. These two were capable sensors, so it remains to be seen what upgrades we could see on its successor.

According to the latest information, the OPPO R9S has already entered production. There will be a few changes in the new version, like the processor and some other features. While it is yet to be confirmed, it is said that OPPO R9S will be using the Snapdragon 625 chipset instead of the Helio P10 found inside the current R9 model. Also, the VOOC fast charging tech could be upgraded, with a possibility of the Super VOOC tech that was demoed back at MWC 2016 Barcelona making it to the new generation model.

OPPO R9 is doing very well for the company, selling over 7 million units of the device in a few months of launch. However, it looks like this best selling model will soon see a successor, as Taiwanese media reports indicate that OPPO is preparing to launch the OPPO R9S which should succeed the R9 later this year.

It is said that Qualcomm has bagged the rights to supply processors for the OPPO R9S model. The chipmaker is said to start shipping the chipset in August this year, which means the official launch of the new model is just a few months away. The company is also said to continue with the same design philosophy that worked wonders with the R9, i.e. a thin metal body design. However, since Qualcomm has reportedly got the chipset rights for the R9S, it would be interesting to see which chip is used inside this new device.

OPPO R9 Plus came with Snapdragon 652, but it was a larger and a costlier version of the R9. With the OPPO R9S, the company could either upgrade the chip to SD652 or maybe use a newer chip like the Snapdragon 625. Also, if the rumored OPPO Find 9 is not releasing anytime soon, then OPPO may even upgrade the chip to Snapdragon 821 inside this R9S. This is possible because the phone will have to take on powerful models like the Mi Note 2, LeEco flagship, Mate 9 etc in the second half of the year.

Another interesting feature said to end up on the OPPO R9S is the fast charging technology. It looks like OPPO could use the Super VOOC fast charging tech that charges a 2500mAh battery in 15 minutes inside its new device. If that’s the case, charging a phone won’t be an issue anymore.

There are rumors about OPPO releasing a dual camera phone, but the setup would ideally end up in a top-end flagship lineup like the OPPO Find 9.
