A couple of weeks ago, Chinese smartphone maker Oppo announced the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom FC Barcelona Edition smartphone in its home country. The smartphone is now available for purchase in China for a price of 4,799 yuan, which roughly converts to $698 and will be available in limited quantities.

The Oppo Reno 10X Zoom FC Barcelona Edition features a blue-and-red color scheme with heat-press technology to create a unique gradient color effect and a gold-plated club insignia on the back.

It also comes with an FC Barcelona-themed user interface and a case having a similar design. The smartphone also comes with FC Barcelona theme, icons, and ringtones to distinguish it from the standard edition.

Apart from these design-related changes, everything else remains the same as the standard model, including the phone’s specifications. It comes with a 6.6-inch AMOLED notch-less Full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It offers a screen-to-body ratio of 93.1 percent and the display is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 6 on top.

Can mobile phones replace SLR cameras? That is a question.

SLR cameras can take photos with excellent image quality, while the mobile phones can share the photos immediately, which image quality is good.

One of the attractive reasons of the phone’s camera is its light and portable, therefore, manufacturers continuously improve function and image quality of phone’s camera. Last year, we could know how stunning the multi camera module, which realize the features of depth of field and 2x lossless zoom. This year, manufacturers make smartphones camera module supporting 10x zoom.

OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition and Huawei P30 Pro support 10x zoom, which are the flagship smartphone coming with their best hardware.

Now, we will do a comparison of OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition and Huawei P30 Pro. Let’s check out.

Most of manufacturers consider how to make sure that the phone’s design keeps slim and support long focus. OPPO and HUAWEI decided to adopt Periscope Camera with horizontal modules, which in order to reduce the phone’s thickness problem caused by ultra-telephoto lens.

Combine main camera, which is good enough to realize digital zoom, with good telephoto lens and amazing wide-angle lens, the complicated camera modules support 10x zoom feature.

Both OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition and Huawei P30 Pro are made up of the most complicated multiple cameras. Although they have similar zoom design, the different algorithm makes them have different image effect.

At the 5x zoom or 6x zoom factor, we found that the effect of OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition is better than Huawei P30 Pro. The details keep well and the brightness is better.

When the zoom exceeds the limitation of the optical lens, and the two smartphones start wo turn on the mixed zoom, there are different image quality for the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition and the Huawei P30 Pro. In the 10x zoom factor, OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition is clearer than Huawei P30 Pro because of the higher sharpening. But if taking photos in the plain indoor condition, the over-sharpening will make the noise obviously.

Another difference between the two smartphones is color casts. OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition is blue cast. In the cloudy day in Shanghai, the blue cast makes the image hierarchically. The Huawei P30 Pro is yellow cast in the auto mode, which is general.

The Huawei P30 Pro has vivid color mode, which can make the images more colorful after turning on, and the mode will increase the automatic exposure factor, which can make the image brighter. However, if turn on the color mode when taking images in the scene of red subject, the color mode will cause the serious color shading, which is unnatural.

The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition also offers color mode, which will make the images more colorful. But it is more cautious than the Huawei P30 Pro color mode. The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition will optimize the contrast and saturation of images.

However, the color mode will make the image latitude lower, and there is a huge difference between the two smartphones. The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition still keeps more dark details at the 6x zoom or 10x zoom factors. Although the image latitude performs generally, it is enough to shoot. While it seems that Huawei doesn’t care about the image latitude. Look at the Huawei P30 Pro 10x zoom sample below, the dark details are almost invisible. The sample of OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition still keeps some of details.

It also seems to be related to the automatic exposure orientation of the two smartphones. The telephoto lens and the wide-angle lens of OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition adopt similar focusing and photometric way, and the exposure performance is well. The telephoto lens and the wide-angle lens of Huawei P30 Pro have different focusing and photometric way. The wide-angle lens performs well, but the telephoto lens is obviously underexposure.

The underexposure can make the images taken by Huawei P30 Pro have higher contrast, but for those users who want to take more details will prefer the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition. The color shading problem can be solved by filter, but the images details cannot be recovered.

Actually, both smartphones perform not well in the focusing aspect.

Therefore, when the two smartphones turn on the telephoto mode, they will offer infinity focus way by default to save focusing time. This is a good way, because people often shoot scenes by telephoto mode, and the infinity focus way is enough to keep the image sharp.

Huawei and OPPO add OIS technology to increase the success rate of telephoto shooting. Actually, they perform well when shooting in daily life with digital image stabilization. Even in a dark room, it is easy to take clear images if you hold the phone stably.

The image quality at the telephoto will drop in low light, so both smartphones have night mode which is to improve brightness and sharpness with multi-frame compositing.

After the accumulation of several generations of handheld night mode algorithms, Huawei has more experience in dealing with urban night scenes than OPPO. For example, look the samples below, the detail retention and brightness of Huawei P30 Pro is better than OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition which opens night mode.

The night mode is not suitable for all scenes. Look at the samples below, they show the disadvantage of multi-frame compositing. It can show more details and clear the image, but the images appear stiff. The performance of OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition is more natural.

In fact, the Huawei P30 Pro’s performance is surprising at the telephoto if you don’t consider the night mode’s software algorithms. Its camera module of super wide-angle lens, wide-angle lens and telephoto lens shows three different performances. Look at the samples below, can you believe that they are taken by the phone in automatic mode?

OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition is more uniform, it provides the same exposure factor and color representation, and when manually turn on the night mode, the overall details and picture exposure performance has improved.

It is worth mentioning that OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition and Huawei P30 Pro are capable of doing over 10x zoom, OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition achieves maximum 60x zoom, and Huawei P30 Pro achieves maximum 50x zoom. However, the two features are based on 10x mixed zoom and then digital zoom, so it is hard to take beautiful images at the maximum zoom factor.

Overall, we believe that the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition is superior to Huawei P30 Pro in the telephoto with better resolution, automatic exposure and color performance. When both smartphones don’t be turned on night mode, OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition still has good images with detail retention, which is enough to shoot. The night mode of Huawei P30 Pro can bring brighter image in some of scenes, but it often shows some stiff images.

Conclusion:

Both Huawei P30 Pro and OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition are a reflection of the current progress in smartphone technology. Through the ingenious mechanical structure, OPPO and Huawei break the optical barrier and combine zoom with lightness.

Do you think which is better?

A few weeks ago, Oppo took the wraps off its new flagship lineup — Oppo Reno. So far, the company has launched two models of the series in China — Oppo Reno and Oppo Reno 10X Zoom Edition.

The phone, which is currently available for pre-order in China and before the device goes up for sale, here’s the teardown of the Reno 10X Zoom Edition, explaining the internals of the flagship smartphone.

Removing the plastic back cover of the phone reveals that it is connected to the NFC chip. The company has made some changes on both sides of the cover, including the addition of grooves for heat dissipation gel and to make the wire turn to the flash.

Moving ahead, we can see the two major highlights of the smartphone — the new and unique pop-up camera mechanism and the 10X hybrid zoom triple-camera setup for the back panel. Because of these two features, the PCB board or the motherboard layout is quite compact compared to others.

It seems that the device offers a good level of heat dissipation on the motherboard. It has metal shields on both the front as well as the back and a uniform copper foil. Also, silicone grease and gel have been added to the front and the back side of the CPU core area.

There’s also soft protective ring protection around the BTB and the lens for the protection and is not much difficult to take it apart. However, the precision and the quality used for this definitely looks like a flagship-grade device.

The smartphone has a unique pop-up mechanism and so does its implementation and layout under the hood. It combines a front camera, soft light, an earpiece, a microphone, and a rear flash on the asymmetrical rotating structure and the stepper motor is placed on the right side. The volume of the transmission part is also small and has a seven-toothed gear that reduces movement sound.

The whole pop-up mechanism is made up of a circular motion which centers on one point on the right side of the fuselage. The guide rail is made of a metal frame which offers much higher stability.

Coming to the major highlight — the 10X Hybrid Zoom camera setup — it comes with a 48 MP primary sensor, an 8 MP wide-angle lens, and a 13 MP telephoto lens. These three lenses are held together in an L-shaped arrangement and are fixed by a gel.

It seems that the periscope lens, which measures 11.5 x 5.7 x 24.5 mm, is separately packaged in another metal cover. When opened, along with the CMOS for the general lens, it can be seen that the lens and the refractive prism are much larger than the conventional size. The company has also customized the lens module to cut the circular lens further in parallel, reducing the volume occupation, which is the origin of the D-Cut module. To achieve the anti-shake effect, the company uses electromagnetic control.

Overall, the internal structure of the Oppo Reno 10X Hybrid Zoom Edition is quite compact. As with the unique pop-up mechanism, the internals for the same is also executive a bit differently. It also takes care of the heat dissipation and offers protections for regular usage. So, the phone does have the flagship grade build quality.

Huawei’s P30 Pro flagship may be dominating the headlines right now with its 50X digital zoom but we won’t lose sight of OPPO’s latest smartphone which comes with a decent 10X zoom camera on one of the models. OPPO Reno was announced yesterday in China and it comes in a standard edition powered by a Snapdragon 710 chipset and a 10x zoom edition which packs a Snapdragon 855 chipset. Both models look very similar but there are some few differences in their designs. These pictures of the Reno standard edition and Reno 10x zoom edition will help you pick out the differences.

Both models have the same design at the front but different screen sizes. The 10x zoom edition packs a 6.65-inch AMOLED display while the standard model has a smaller 6.4-inch display. Both displays are near bezel-less, devoid of any form of screen notch. The Reno models use a similar 16MP shark fin-shaped pop-up camera design for the selfies. The locations of the power button on the right and the volume rockers on the left side of the display are consistent on both models. Further, both the standard and 10X zoom edition of the Reno come with USB-C ports and the SIM card slot is located on the left side of the USB-C port while there is a speaker grill on the right.

The back panel design is where you will find most of the significant differences between the design of both models. The major highlight of the 10x zoom model is the 10X hybrid zoom technology which it features. It packs three rear cameras; a 48MP high-definition main camera + 13 MP periscope telephoto lens + 8 MP super wide-angle lens. At the same time, the device uses dual optical image stabilization (OIS), triple focus, and can take a true and clear 10x zoom photo without a tripod. On its part, the standard Reno comes with a dual camera setup as it lacks the 10x zoom feature. OPPO Reno standard edition features OIS-assisted 48MP + 5MP dual camera module on its rear. You can check out more pictures of the model from below.

On April 10^th, finally, OPPO Reno was released! With the new smartphone, the new series, the new technology, you must be interested in the OPPO Reno. Before OPPO Reno, the most well known series of OPPO is R series focusing on photograph, and Find X inclining to exploration and technology. So, what’s the difference of OPPO Reno? Now let’s check out the latest smartphone of OPPO!

Design

In these two years, there are two features of smartphone’s development, which are bigger screen size and better photograph. From 3.5-inch screen to 6-inch screen, most of people prefer a large display gradually. And for the screen designs, there are several designs having been widely adopted, which are notch, water drop and punch hole. Ultimately, manufacturers make the true full-screen possible by hiding the front-facing camera. OPPO Find X has shown us the possibility, and the OPPO Reno is the upgrade version of true full-screen.

OPPO Reno features a uniquely design called “shark fin” shaped pop-up module.

The durability of the cameras with side-rotation lifting module is being proved. Official claims that the lifting time of the camera is about 0.8s, and the usage count is up to 200,000 times. In other words, if you make it lift up 20 times per day, you can use it at least 20 years.

What’s more, there is a drop protection system built-in the camera module, when the phone falls down, the camera module will be automatically retracted.

In order to further enhance the proportion of the screen, OPPO Reno comes with the in-display fingerprint reader. You should have a question where is the receiver? OPPO Reno ships with the hidden receiver which is making a sound through the edges of panel and glass.

Thanks to the skillful design, OPPO Reno comes with the true full-screen, and the screen-to-body ratio is up to 93.1%.

It’s hard to do a stunning rear panel design which is attractive. From Find X to R17, OPPO has always been a good designer and a color player. At this time, we can great color matching on Reno’s rear side.

There are four color of Reno for users to choose, which are Extreme Night Black, Nebula Purple, Fog Sea Green and Pink Mist.

The 3D gradient color makes the OPPO Reno looked colorful and rich. Reno adopts the bright spot color technology, which integrate glass surface layer, tinting layer, condensation layer and metal bottom layer, to create the visual effect of interweaving fog and bright on a rear glass.

Performance

The market positioning of OPPO Reno is between R series and Find X series, so Reno should publish two editions.

OPPO Reno standard version comes with Snapdragon 710 processor, and the 10x Zoom edition is powered by Snapdragon 855 processor supporting liquid cooling system. What’s more, Reno will be published a 5G edition in future.

Obviously, performance is no longer the shortcoming of Reno.

OPPO Reno is equipped with ColorOS 6 which adopts the latest borderless design. The new system has also expanded a lot – remote guardianship, which is very particular for dealing with phone problems, Hyperboost 2.0, which optimizes game performance, and Breeno smart assistant, which covers the whole scene, all of which have help to improve user experience.

OPPO’s 10x Zoom technology has showed on the MWC, and now it is used in the OPPPO Reno. Note that the standard edition has no 10x zoom, but has dual rear camera module.

OPPO Reno comes with 48MP main camera with Sony IMX586 sensor making sure the imaging effect. Moreover, Reno also uses four-in-one pixel aggregation technology, so the performance is quite good in low-light environment.

Both edition support Super Nightscape, which is a technology to enhance the performance of night scene through multi-frame synthesis technology. In the handheld mode, after taking a night photo, it will compose 7 images with different brightness to form a photo. If you take photos by tripod, it will compose maximum of 17 images with different brightness to form a photo, so the image quality will also be greatly improved.

Overall, regardless of the low light and night scenes, the camera of OPPO Reno will have a great performance. You can see from the official sample.

We also take several samples by Reno. The camera’s performance is very good in daytime, even in the easily overexposed scenes, the color is gorgeous, the details are greatly preserved. There is no distortion in color in a dimly lit room.

In general, you can take photos by OPPO Reno without complex setup.

There is no doubt that, photograph is one of the features of Reno.

Conclusion

According to the marketing report of IDC, OPPO shipped 113.1million units in 2018 and has become one of the top mobile phone manufacturers in China. Now, it is considering the next step of smartphone marketing.

OPPO Reno is one of the answers with great design, good performance and stunning photograph.
