Oppo has been actively working on Android 16 and ColorOS 16 for months, and now it appears the brand is finally closing in on the stable release. It has just begun the ColorOS 16 Open Beta program, which is the final stage before the stable rollout. The program is currently limited to some high-end devices, including the Oppo Find X8, Find X8 Pro, and Reno 14.

The ColorOS 16 Open Beta program is available for Find X8, Find X8 Pro, and Reno 14 users in India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Interested users can apply to be a part of this program until October 13. Unlike closed beta or early beta build, the Open Beta is generally available to a wider audience. So, participants have a higher chance of getting early access to the latest features and upgrades ahead of the public rollout.

Here’s how to apply for the ColorOS 16 Open Beta program

It’s important to note that the open beta builds are generally safer and more stable than preview builds or closed beta builds; however, they are still beta builds and hence may contain bugs, errors, and stability problems. You must also back up important data to prevent data loss due to firmware failure or any other technical difficulties.

1. Make sure your phone is updated to the detectable version:
   • Oppo Find X8: CPH2651_15.0.0.860(EX01)
   • Oppo Find X8 Pro: CPH2659_15.0.0.860(EX01)
   • Oppo Reno 14: CPH2737_15.0.2.602(EX01)
   • Oppo Reno 14: CPH2737_15.0.2.502(EX01)
2. Open the Settings app and tap System and update.
3. Tap on Software update.
4. Tap the three dot icon in the top-right corner and choose Beta program.
5. Click the Apply button.
6. Check the required boxes and hit Apply.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your application.

Once your application is accepted, you’ll receive the ColorOS 16 beta via an OTA update. You can manually check for updates by navigating to Settings > System and update > Software update.

Since this is a major upgrade, the download size will likely be a few gigabytes. It’s recommended to download such packages over a Wi-Fi connection. Before installing the update, ensure the device has at least 40% battery, so that it doesn’t power off during the process.

Oppo says some third-party applications are currently incompatible with Android 16. It should be resolved in the upcoming updates. Another important point to keep in mind is that the device performs heavy optimizations in the background after a major upgrade is installed, which generally leads to a faster battery drain. Don’t worry about that if it happens. It usually takes a day or two for the battery consumption to return to normal.

Oppo was one of the first brands to release Android 16 beta, which was a pretty early build, limited only to Find X8 users. The first beta arrived in April this year, followed by additional betas over the coming weeks and months. In August, the ColorOS 16 Closed Beta program went live, and now it’s time for the Open Beta experience. This is the final stage of the beta testing phase, indicating the imminent release of the stable build. Assuming no last-minute critical bugs, the ColorOS 16 stable rollout should begin later this month. We’ll have concrete details about the stable release and rollout schedule on September 15, when Oppo will launch ColorOS 16 globally.

The Chinese tech giant confirmed on a recent community post that the ColorOS 16 Open Beta is live now. This update is available only to users in India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. For those interested, the application period for the open beta is already live, with the last date set for 13th October 2025. So you have a couple of days if you wish to try out the Android 16 OS based ColorOS 16 custom skin.

It is worth noting that the major software upgrade is seeing a limited release. Only the Oppo Find X8 Pro and Reno 14 are eligible for the open beta. The flagship model is receiving the CPH2659_15.0.0.860 build, while the mid range model is getting the CPH2737_15.0.2.602 or CPH2737_15.0.2.502 build version. If you are planning on applying for the ColorOS 16 open beta, here are a few quick and easy steps.

On your Find X8 Pro and Reno 14, hit Settings > About device > Tap the top of the page > Click the top-right button > Select Beta Program > Fill in your information > Tap on Apply Now. After you’ve finished this process, you’ll have to be patient for the application to be approved, and once that is done, head to About device in Settings again and click on Download Now to install the update. The intricate artwork is etched on the black rear panel. This offers a nice contrast to the eye catching design. Oppo has teased the new special edition Reno 14, but there is still no official word regarding its launch date. Apart from the bright design, this limited edition model likely offers the same specs and features as the regular Reno 14. OPPO has added a new Mint Green colour option to its Reno 14 smartphone in India. The phone was earlier available in Pearl White and Forest Green. The new variant keeps the same hardware and features as the previous models.

The Reno 14 features a 6.59-inch OLED flat display with a 2760 x 1256 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, 1200 nits peak brightness, and 3840Hz PWM dimming. It has Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection.

It is powered by the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor with a Mali-G615 MC6 GPU. It comes with 8GB or 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. The phone runs on Android 15 with ColorOS 15.

The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor (IMX882) with OIS and f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide camera (OV08D) with a 112-degree field of view and f/2.2 aperture, and a 50MP periscope camera (JN5) with OIS and f/2.8 aperture offering 3.5x zoom. According to Oppo, this edition stands out with a unique temperature-sensitive finish that shifts colours based on the surrounding heat. Oppo Reno 14 Sun & Moonlight edition

The Oppo Reno 14’s Sun & Moonlight edition features a heat-reactive back that changes from Moonlight Silver to Sunlight Orange depending on the temperature. At around -15°C, the device reveals a vibrant orange tone, while temperatures over 70°C shift it back to silver.

Oppo claims both colors can coexist during the transition, giving the device a visually dynamic appearance. Unlike earlier electrochromic designs, this process is automatic and reacts directly to the environment.

The Oppo Reno 14 Sun & Moonlight variant comes in several configurations:

This is another excellent premium mid-range phone featuring an aluminum alloy frame, Gorilla Glass 7i protection, and an IP68 rating that ensures protection against dust and water. It has a slightly smaller screen size with a higher pixel density, resulting in sharper and crisper images. The device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chip, faster than Vivo V50’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

The Reno 14 promises two additional Android upgrades than the Vivo V50. It also featured an additional camera unit (telephoto lens) on the rear side, enabling a range of shots. The battery capacities remain the same, but the charging speed is a little lower on the Oppo phone. The connectivity features are nearly identical, except for the NFC support on the Reno 14.

It’s another solid package on the list, featuring an aluminum frame, IP68 rating, and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection on both sides. The Exynos 2400e chipset powers the handset, which is nearly twice as fast as the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 on the Vivo V50.

The Galaxy S24 FE features a marginally smaller screen size with nearly the same pixel density but a significantly lower peak brightness. However, it leaves the Vivo V50 in the dust by offering seven years of Android upgrades. The device allows up to 8K video recording via its triple rear cameras, which also includes a telephoto unit. The battery capacity, however, is a bit disappointing, as is the charging speed (4700mAh, 25W). However, it supports wireless charging.

The Vivo T4 Ultra puts a tough show against the Vivo V50 while being similarly priced. It comes with the Dimensity 9300+ chipset, which is significantly faster than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in the V50.

Nothing Phone (3a) Pro another excellent mid-range phone with a non-traditional rear design and a clean software experience. The device features a slightly better Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, the same-sized AMOLED panel, and Android 15 OS with three years of Android updates.

After its roll-out in the global market last month, Oppo has finally made the Reno 14 series official for the Indian market. The lineup consists of the expected Reno 14 and Reno 14 Pro smartphones, both powered by the MediaTek Dimensity chips. 

Oppo Reno 14 and Reno 14 Pro Specifications

To begin with, the Reno 14 Pro gets a 6.83-inch LTPS AMOLED screen, while the non-Pro version scales things down slightly to 6.59 inches. Both offer a 120Hz refresh rate, 1.5K resolution, and up to 1200 nits of brightness. 

Design-wise, the Pro model comes in Pearl White (with a Velvet Glass finish) and Titanium Grey. The base Reno 14 is available in Pearl White and Forest Green, with a glossy, luminous texture.

Both models use aerospace-grade aluminium frames and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. They are also rated IP66, IP68, and IP69 for protection against dust, water, and pressure.

As for the cameras, both feature a 3.5x lossless optical telephoto lens, and the Reno 14 Pro adds a 50MP primary camera along with ultra-wide and telephoto units. You get 4K HDR (@60fps) recording support on both of them. 

Oppo even claims the phone can shoot underwater without needing a dedicated case. There’s also a new lineup of software-based features under the brand’s AI umbrella, including tools like AI Editor 2.0, AI Perfect Shot, and AI Recompose.

Performance is split between two new MediaTek chipsets. The Reno 14 Pro debuts the 4nm Dimensity 8450, while the standard Reno 14 runs on the Dimensity 8350. They both have a Nano Dual-Drive Cooling System for thermal management. 

Keeping all things powered on the Pro is a 6200mAh cell supporting 80W wired and 50W wireless charging. The regular Reno 14 packs a 6000mAh battery with 80W SUPERVOOC support. 

Software is handled by ColorOS based on Android 15 and integrates Google’s Gemini AI for tasks like voice dictation, transcription, and real-time translation. Gemini also works across stock apps such as Notes, Calendar, and Clock.

Price and Availability

The Reno 14 Pro 5G starts at Rs 49,999 for the 12GB+256GB model, with the higher-end 12GB+512GB variant priced at Rs 54,999. 

Meanwhile, the Reno 14 5G begins at Rs 37,999 for the 8GB+128GB configuration and tops out at Rs 42,999 for 12GB+512GB. Sales will begin on 8 July 2025 on Amazon, Flipkart, Oppo’s e-store, and select offline retailers.

1. Nothing Phone (3)

Launch date: July 1, 2025 (official)

The Nothing Phone (3) is launching later today. It’s expected to introduce rather significant changes to its rear design. Official-looking renders appeared recently, showing an awkward placement of the rear cameras. While Nothing hasn’t confirmed Phone (3)’s camera setup, it has confirmed that one of the three is a 50MP periscope telephoto unit.

The black circle on the right is for the Glyph Matrix. There’s no iconic Glyph Interface that we are used to seeing in Nothing phones. The brand will likely use the new Glyph Matrix in upcoming high-end phones as well.

The Phone (3) is expected to feature a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED screen with a 1.5K resolution and a 5,150mAh battery with 100W wired and 15W wireless charging support. It’s confirmed to pack the powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset for smooth performance. The phone will receive Android updates for five years and security updates for seven years.

2. AI+ Smartphones

Launch date: July 8, 2025 (official)

The new AI+ smartphone brand, led by Realme India’s former CEO, Madhav Sheth, is all set to launch its first smartphones next week. The upcoming phones — AI+ Nova 5G and AI+ — Pulse are designed and built in India and will be exclusively sold through Flipkart.

The smartphones have a starting price of INR 5,000, but this likely includes card discounts as well. We’ll have better clarity about the pricing at the launch. As for the key specs, the phones have a 5,000mAh battery and dual rear cameras led by a 50MP sensor. The phones also feature a microSD slot for up to 1TB of additional storage.

The brand has confirmed that the Nord 5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and will feature a 7,300mm² vapor chamber. It features a vertical camera array on the rear side, housing two sensors. According to recent leaks, it may include a 50MP Sony LYT-700 primary sensor and an 8MP ultrawide sensor. The front side could come with a 50MP Samsung JN5 sensor.

4. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7

Launch date: July 9, 2025

The next-generation Galaxy foldables will be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event scheduled for July 9. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be the showstopper. However, reports say Samsung could also unveil a cheaper Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 may come with an 8-inch inner screen and a 6.5-inch cover screen. It’s expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, paired with up to 12GB RAM and up to 1TB storage. The device is said to feature a triple camera setup, led by a 200MP sensor, and a 4,400mAh battery with 25W charging support.

As for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, it’s likely to sport a 6.8-inch inner screen and a 4-inch cover screen. Samsung is expected to ship the device with two chipsets, either with an Exynos 2500 or a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, depending on the market. The device could be equipped with a dual rear camera setup, including a 50MP primary camera and a 12MP ultrawide sensor. It’s said to have a 4,300mAh battery and 25W fast charging support.

Both foldable phones will likely ship with Android 16-based One UI 8 software out of the box, promising seven years of Android and security updates.

5. Oppo Reno 14 series

This week, Oppo will announce the Reno 14 series in India. There will be two smartphones: Reno 14 5G and Reno 14 Pro 5G. The Reno series targets the mid-range segment, offering a good blend of performance, price, and features, and the Reno 14 series will be no different.

As for the specs, the Reno 14 Pro is confirmed to have the Dimensity 8450 chipset. 6. Realme 15 series

Launch date: mid-July (unofficial)

The Realme 15 series is confirmed to launch soon in India. Although there’s no exact launch date yet, it will most likely be unveiled later this month.

The official teaser reveals that the brand will soon launch the Realme 15 5G and Realme 15 Pro 5G. There will likely be a “Pro+” variant at a later stage. Most of the things about the Realme 14 series are under covers.

The Realme 15 Pro is being positioned as an “AI Party Phone,” suggesting that the device will come with loads of AI features. The official poster also hints at flagship features for the Pro model that were previously exclusive to the Plus line of Realme smartphones.

6. Vivo X Fold 5 and X200 FE

Vivo X Fold 5 and Vivo X200 FE are officially confirmed to launch soon, most likely this month.

The Vivo X Fold 5 may feature an 8.03-inch LTPO inner screen and a 6.53-inch cover screen, both supporting a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s said to be powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, paired with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

The foldable phone could feature a triple camera setup on the rear side, including a 50MP (Sony IMX921) primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP (Sony IMX882) periscope telephoto unit. It’s expected to house a 6,000mAh battery with support for 80W wired and 40W wireless charging speeds.

The Vivo X200 FE will likely launch alongside the X Fold 5 sometime this month. Key specs include an LTPO AMOLED panel, Dimensity 9300+ chipset, and a 6,500mAh battery with 90W fast charging support. 7. Motorola Moto G96

Inside is a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor with a reported benchmark score of over 1.4 million. The chip is paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, with configurations ranging from 12/256GB to 16GB/1TB. 

The phone is fueled by a 6000mAh cell that supports 80W wired charging. TO keep the thermals down, Oppo equips the Reno 14 with what it calls a “nano ice crystal heat sink.” It is said to deliver three times the thermal conductivity of graphite-based solutions like those in iPhones.

The rumour mill is yet to reveal the model number of the standard edition.

On being asked what the difference is between Dimensity 8450 and the existing Dimensity 8400, the tipster said it’s the same as the difference between the Dimensity 8350 and Dimensity 8300. For those unfamiliar, the Reno 13 and 13 Pro feature the Dimensity 8350 SoC.

As the Reno 14 series is expected to launch this month in China, the Dimensity 8450 is likely to be officially unveiled just before the Reno 14 series debut. The above leak also suggests that Oppo may unveil other devices like the Enco Clip earbuds and Pad SE tablet alongside the Reno 14 lineup. The Pad SE will feature an 11-inch LCD panel, a Dimensity G100 (upcoming) chip, and a 9,30mAh battery with 33W fast charging. It will measure 7.39 mm in thickness and weigh 530 grams.

Oppo‘s Reno series is one of its most popular smartphone lineups, especially since these devices target the mid range segment. The Reno phones are more affordable than their flagship lineup but still offer attractive specs and gorgeous designs. With the next gen Reno 14 series being on the horizon, here’s everything we about the upcoming Reno 14 and Reno 14 Pro.

Design and Display

The Chinese tech giant is bringing slight changes in the design elements of the new Reno 14 lineup. The overall look remains the same, but there are slight tweaks in the rear. The camera module in particular is getting touched up with the camera island housing twin oval shaped cutouts for the image sensors.

Apart from this, the front and back remain flat while the corners are rounded. Oppo is rumored to launch the new Reno models with an aluminum alloy frame on the sides for a more robust and premium build. These will likely offer IP68/IP69 rating for superior water and dust resistance.

On the front, the base Reno 14 sports a 6.59-inch LTPS OLED flat display with a 1.5K resolution and high refresh rate. The higher end Reno 14 Pro is expected to feature a taller 6.83-inch LTPS OLED flat panel with a 1.5K resolution and high refresh rate as well (the duo likely gets 120Hz).

Performance

Under the hood, both the Reno 14 and Reno 14 Pro is expected to be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 SoC. Unforutnately, the RAM and internal storage configuration is still at large. However, we can assume that the duo will run on the Android 15 OS based ColorOS 15 custom skin out of the box.

Based on what we know so far, the vanilla Reno 14 could be powered by a massive 6,000mAh battery pack, which may support 80W wired fast charging. While the exact capacity is unknown, there are reports of the Pro model having a larger battery pack and 80W wired fast charging support as well.

Camera

For photography, Oppo is expected to offer a 50MP primary sensor along with a 50MP telephoto shooter (Samsung JN5) and an 8MP ultra wide angle lens. The front could house a 50MP selfie shooter. On the other hand, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro may feature a 50MP main camera but skip the regular telephoto lens at the back for a more advanced periscope telephoto camera for better quality zoom shots. We can also expect an ultra wide angle lens as well. Just like the base model, the front could featuer a 50MP camera for selfies and video calls.

Launch Date

The company has yet to official confirm a launch date for the Reno 14 series. However, it did announce that it will be running promotional installations across three cities in China. These are set to run between 1st to 14th May in Chengdu and Chongqing, and 1st to 28th May in Changsha. This strongly suggests that the Oppo Reno 14 lineup could debut sometime in the middle of next month.

According to DCS, the Reno 14’s texture and finish are so refined that it closely resembles an iPhone, making it almost impossible to tell the two apart at a glance. While the front of the phone has not been revealed, it is said to be equipped with a flat display.
