Just recently, OPPO started the Android 12-based ColorOS 12 beta program for a bunch of smartphones in multiple markets. Within a few days, the company has now added two more devices to the program. These phones are OPPO Reno4 and OPPO Reno4 Pro.

According to official announcement posts on OPPO Community, the ColorOS 12 beta program is now live for the OPPO Reno4 in Indonesia and the OPPO Reno4 Pro in India as well as Indonesia. The company is recruiting  5,000 testers for the handsets in each region. The registrations began on February 23 and will remain open until March 2.

OPPO Reno4

OPPO Reno4 Pro

• Region: Indonesia, India
• Seats: 5,000 (each region)
• Required Firmware: C.42, C.43

Interested users on the required firmware can head over to Settings > Software Update > Gear Icon > Apply for Beta Version > Update Beta Version and follow the on-screen instructions to enroll in the Android 12 beta initiative.

OPPO says that selected applicants will receive the beta software via OTA within 3 working days from the selection. That said, those who don’t get picked can try their luck in the next round of recruitment if there’s going to be any.

As far as stable release is concerned, OPPO is yet to reveal the timeline for it. Going by the rollout so far, it may happen in a month or two from now.

Oppo released its ColorOS 12 Q1 2022 rollout plan for its less recent smartphone models last month, and it looks like Oppo is keeping up with its promise as it seems that all is going even better.

The rollout is ahead of schedule! 

According to the plan, it was mentioned that Oppo will release its ColorOS 12 open beta for its Chinese variant of the Oppo Reno4 5G and Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G phones on Jan 17, 2022. However, in the latest announcement in the Chinese Oppo forum as of recent, Oppo announced that it will be conducting recruitment for its Oppo ColorOS 12 Open Beta from Jan 14 to Jan 17 3PM CST for Oppo Reno4 5G and Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G users in China. 

Here’s are the key details provided by Oppo that you need to know if you want to join the open beta:

1. The recruitment is for Oppo Reno4 5G and Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G users in China only.
2. The recruitment is running from Jan 14 to Jan 17 3PM CST.
3. Users will be reviewed within 5 business days after they submitted their application to join the open beta.
4. The ColorOS 12 update will be pushed to beta users within 3 business days once the review has been passed.

Do note here that beta builds are still under the development stage and will hence not be as stable as regular updates. Prepare to run into bugs, abnormal power usage, and other issues. While issues aren’t exactly guaranteed to exist, if you do run into them, then just be sure to report them to Oppo.

If you are interested in signing up for the beta Android 12-based ColorOS 12 builds for the Oppo Reno4 5G and Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G, here’s how to apply in two simple steps.

First, ensure your Oppo Reno4 5G and Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G are on the required latest builds: Reno4 5G(C.33 and above), Reno4 Pro 5G(C.32 and above). Then just head over to “Settings > Software Update > Settings icon > Upgrade early adopters > Upgrade to beta build” to upgrade to the open beta build.

Do note that this Android-12 based ColorOS 12 open beta is only available currently in China, however, the global beta is believed to be announced soon in the coming months.

Netflix is arguably one of the best streaming platforms available worldwide. The service can be accessed on a wide variety of devices with a display. But the OEMs require a license to support the app on their devices. Hence, not all Android smartphones can stream in HD or HDR quality. 

Above all, not all companies disclose whether their phones support Netlfix. Customers can only know about it by installing the application themselves. But thankfully, Netflix has a dedicated page on its website with a list of supported devices. This list has been now updated with the brand-new Samsung Galaxy S21 series, a bunch of OPPO smartphones, and a TCL handset.

It is interesting to know that only the 4G variant of OPPO Reno4 Pro supports Netflix HDR although the 4G variant has the exact same display. Also, all the OPPO handsets listed above are on sale for months but they have received Netlfix certification only now.

On the other hand, the TCL 20 5G launched only last month and the Galaxy S21 series just hit the shelves today.

After launching the Reno4 and Reno4 Pro in China in June, OPPO finally brings both the handsets to international markets in late July with sales starting from August. The Pro variant had a launch event earlier today for India but the availability and pricing for other regions are yet to be announced. At around the same time, the regular model launched quietly in Thailand for THB 11,990 ($384) in a single 8GB + 128GB storage variant.

Just like the global Reno4 Pro, the Reno4 global variant is different front the handset that originally launched in China. This phone features a plastic composite rear panel instead of glass and therefore it weighs only 165g. It comes in two color variants namely Galactic Blue and Space Black.

Further, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G with 4G connectivity, compared to Snapdragon 765G (5G) on the original. Also, it sports a 48MP (wide) + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth) quad-camera setup opposed to triple camera setup on the Chinese model. 

However, the 32MP (wide) + 2MP (depth) dual selfie camera, which nests in an oval-shaped punch hole at the top left corner of the handset’s 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED display is same as the Reno4 Chinese variant.

Another difference is that it is backed by a slightly larger 4,015mAh battery but only supports 30W VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge via USB Type-C port. Whereas, the original version packs a 4,000 mAh battery with support for 65W SuperVOOC 2.0.

Last but not least, the software on this phone is ColorOS 7.2 based on Android 10, which is exactly the same one found on the Chinese variant.

Yesterday, OPPO unveiled the Reno4 series of powerful mid-range phones in China. The 5G-ready Reno4 and Reno4 Pro smartphones that are driven by Snapdragon 765G are equipped with stellar cameras. It seems India will be the next country to receive the Reno4 series as OPPO India has confirmed that it will be soon launching the Reno4 series in the country.

The Chinese firm did not reveal any exact timeline for the arrival of the Reno4 series in India. However, the company revealed that the Reno4 models will come with features that are relevant to the Indian market. It is not clear whether it will be releasing Reno4 as well as its Pro version in India.

The Reno4 5G models such as 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage are priced at 2,999 Yuan (~$423) and 3,299 Yuan (~$465), respectively in China. On the other side, the Reno4 Pro 5G variants such as 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage are priced at 3,799 Yuan (~$536) and 4,299 Yuan (~$607), respectively.

OPPO Reno4 5G and Reno4 Pro 5G specifications

The Reno4 and Reno4 Pro are equipped with 6.43-inch and 6.55-inch full HD+ AMOLED screens. The Pro model supports a 90Hz refresh rate and comes with a single punch-hole for its 32-megapixel selfie camera. The Reno4 has a pill-shaped camera cutout on the screen for its 32-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual selfie camera system.

The Reno4 and Reno4 Pro phones are packed 4,000mAh batteries with 65W fast charging support. The Reno4 has a 48-megapixel + 8-megapixel (ultrawide) + 2-megapixel (depth) triple camera system. The Reno4 Pro has a 48-megapixel + 13-megapixel (telephoto) + 12-megapixel (ultrawide) triple camera setup. The ColorOS 7.2 based Android 10 OS comes preinstalled on the Reno4 and Reno4 Pro smartphones.
