<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Twitter user Chun has </span><a href="https://twitter.com/chunvn8888/status/1508274316839833608"><span style="font-weight: 400">shared</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> three images of an unreleased OPPO Reno5 5G with a different SoC. This particular model houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip chipset instead of a Snapdragon 765G chip.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">In order to enable 5G support on phones with Snapdragon 855 SoC, OEMs have to use the Snapdragon X50 modem. So this version of </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-reno5-5g/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OPPO Reno5 5G</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> should include the said chip and the modem.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Since the global semiconductor shortage began in 2020, OPPO might not have been able to procure the year-old </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Snapdragon-855/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Snapdragon 855</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> chipset and the Snapdragon X50 modem. Also, it is always better to use an SoC with an integrated modem for power efficiency. Hence, the company could have decided to use the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Snapdragon-765G/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Snapdragon 765G</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> chip instead.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Anyway, this is just mere speculation from our end. We don’t expect to learn the actual reason behind this as brands don’t share such details publicly.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Having said that, If the OPPO Reno5 5G had been released with Snapdragon 855, it would have been almost identical to the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-reno5-pro-5g/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> with MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ SoC in terms of performance.</span></p>
