The Vanilla Reno 3 is also expected to soon receive the ColorOS 12 update in India while the Reno 3 Pro Chinese variant has already received the update.

In order to be eligible for the update, make sure your Reno 3 and Reno 3 Pro (India/Indonesia variants) are on firmware version C.23 or above. For the Reno 3 China variant, users need to make sure that the device is on the firmware version C.14 or above to receive the ColorOS 12 update.

Users need to navigate to Settings > Software Updates to download and install the update. The OTA software builds for these smartphones are being pushed in batches. Therefore, some users may get them earlier, while others may have to wait.

This is a limited beta, therefore, the company will only be accepting 5,000 participants each for the OPPO Reno3 and the Reno3 Pro. Applications will be reviewed within 5 working days following which selected applicants will get an OTA for the update after another 3 days.

OPPO Reno3 users need to check they’re updated to firmware C.24, in order to receive the OTA. This can be done by heading over to Settings > About Phone > Version Information > Version Number. Reno3 Pro users, on the other hand, need to make sure their devices are updated to version C.23/C.24 to receive the OTA carrying the ColorOS12 beta build.

It should be noted here that the ColorOS 12 update that will be rolled out will be a beta, meaning it’s not guaranteed to provide a stable experience. It’s true that the builds will have passed internal testing, but they’ll likely be rough around the edges, so expect bugs and abnormal power consumption. Therefore, it’s not recommended to apply for the beta unless you’re sure of what you’re doing.

OPPO also warns that since ColorOS 12 is based on Android 12, some third-party applications may run into compatibility issues — although the version has been out for months now so you should be just fine. Also recommended is backing up the data prior to the update process.

To apply for the open beta, head over to Settings > Software Update > Click the settings icon on the screen > Apply for Beta Version > Update Beta Version.

Unlike the SD765G-powered 5G model launched in China, the Indian variant is 4G-only and comes with a few changes in terms of specs.

The phone was launched with a starting price of ₹29,990 for the 8GB + 128GB model and ₹32,999 (~$437) for the 8GB + 256GB model. However, after the GST hike by the Indian government, the phone’s pricing was increased to ₹31,990 (~$424) for the base model.

Now, OPPO India has slashed the pricing of Reno3 Pro by ₹2,000 (~$27), and thus, the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is now available for purchase in the Indian market for ₹29,990, which is around $398.

The OPPO Reno3 Pro features a 6.4-inch E3 S-AMOLED display that offers a Full HD+ screen resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device is powered by 12nm MediaTek Helio P95 chipset, along with 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128/256 GB UFS 2.1 storage.

The OPPO Reno3 Pro in question is different in some aspects of the design apart from the absence of a 5G modem. Official teaser point to the presence of a dual punch hole for the selfie cameras, with one of the shooters being a 44 MP camera. The display also seems to be a flat panel as against a 2.5D curved panel on the 5G version. Some leaked specs suggest an Helio P95 chipset and up to 12 GB RAM, as well as 30W fast charging.

Design

The design of a smartphone is not all about looks: it is also about dimensions and thickness. And I think Oppo Reno3 Pro is the handset that mostly meets the requirements for the best design award. Despite it includes a battery above 4000 mAh, it still comes with an incredibly thin design: just 7.7 mm, as well as a lightweight body with just 171 grams. Further, it has a cleaner glass back thanks to the camera module including all the camera elements, and very narrow bezels thanks to its punch-hole display. Oppo Reno3 Pro is the device attracting me the most, but Vivo X30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite remain two smartphones with amazing aesthetics. The former is even more compact than Oppo Reno3 Pro (but it is thicker and heavier).

Display

Oppo Reno3 Pro is the device offering the most advanced display experience. It is the only to support a high 90 Hz refresh rate, it has a very nice image reproduction thanks to HDR and high DCI-P3 coverage, and even a high brightness. But you should not underestimate the image quality provided by the Super AMOLED Plus panel found on the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite. Even the Vivo X30 Pro sports a great display, but I personally prefer the Oppo Reno3 Pro due to its high refresh rate.

Hardware/Software

It is not very common to see a Samsung smartphone with higher performance than other devices in the same price range. But thanks to the Snapdragon 855 chipset, Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite is faster and more powerful than both Oppo Reno3 Pro and Vivo X30 Pro. But there is a con: unlike its rivals, it does not support 5G. Both Oppo Reno3 Pro and Vivo X30 Pro boast 5G connectivity, but their chipsets are not the most powerful in the market (they are upper-midrange-class mobile platforms). Whether you should go for a 5G device or not depends on the country you live in and how much time will pass before changing your device. Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite and Oppo Reno3 Pro have Android 10 out of the box, while Vivo X30 Pro is still based on Android Pie.

Camera

The most impressive camera on the paper belongs to the Vivo X30 Pro. It has a quad camera composed of a main 64 MP sensor with OIS, a 32 MP portrait lens, a 13 MP periscope sensor with up to 5x optical zoom and an ultrawide sensor. But the fact that it boasts the most impressive cameras on the paper does not mean it provides the best photo quality in every scenario. Oppo Reno3 Pro is another amazing device for photos thanks to its 48 MP main sensor with OIS, while Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite should be impressive for video recording due to its new Super Steady OIS. We will be able to tell you more after testing it thoroughly.

Battery

The king of battery life is Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite with its 4500 mAh battery, followed by Vivo X30 Pro and its 4350 mAh unit.

Price

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite costs €649 globally, Vivo X30 Pro starts from about $585 in China, and Oppo Reno3 Pro starts from about €520 in China. With Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite you lose 5G, but you get better performance and longer battery life. If you get a unit of the Oppo Reno3 Pro, you will get the most amazing design and display, as well as 5G and Android 10 out of the box, while Vivo X30 Pro has the most impressive camera department.

Design

According to us, Oppo Reno3 Pro has undoubtedly the most attractive design. First of all, it is thinner and lighter, one of the thinnest smartphones to feature a battery with a capacity above 4000 mAh. Further, it has an almost totally clean rear side since all the elements of the camera are included in the camera module and there is an in-display fingerprint reader. The phone also comes with a punch-hole display and a very high screen-to-body ratio. While Oppo Reno3 Pro is the most attractive, Huawei Nova 6 looks like the most original with its “Nova” pattern on its glass back.

Display

The most amazing screen belongs to the Oppo Reno3 Pro. It is the only device of this trio to feature a display with a 90 Hz refresh rate. Further, it is HDR-compliant and it has a high DCI P3 coverage. The silver medal goes to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite that is the only affordable flagship to support the S Pen, great for productivity users. Huawei Nova 6 has an IPS panel, it is not a bad display but it offers nothing special, just an average screen like the ones you can find on a lot of mid-range smartphones.

Hardware/Software

Huawei Nova 6 wins the hardware comparison thanks to its Kirin 990 chipset: the latest flagship SoC from Huawei built at 7 nm. The device also comes in a variant with 5G connectivity. The Oppo Reno3 Pro comes right after with a Snapdragon 765G chipset paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite still comes with high-end hardware, but not at the same level as its rivals. On the other hand, it is the only to support micro SD. In each case, you get Android 10 out of the box with a customized user interface.

Camera

In order to give you a definitive opinion, we have to test each camera department of this trio. Unfortunately Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite just debuted, so we had no chance to test its camera performances. On the paper, Oppo Reno3 Pro looks more gorgeous with its 48 MP quad-camera, but Huawei Nova 6 is a valid opponent with its 40 MP triple camera and an ultrawide dual front camera.

Battery

The bigger 4500 mAh battery on board of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite will surely provide a longer battery life than both Huawei Nova 6 and Oppo Reno3. But Huawei Nova 6 has a way faster charging technology (70 percent in just 30 minutes).

Price

Huawei Nova 6 (without 5G) is sold for about €380/$421 in its base variant in India, Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite costs about €494/$548, and Oppo Reno3 Pro is rumored to launch in India next month with a €545/$605 price tag. While Oppo Reno3 Pro looks like a more refined choice, Huawei Nova 6 offers a higher value for money, while Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite may be better for productivity and power users due to the S Pen and a longer-lasting battery.

But the Snapdragon 765G had a better GPU score of 93,086 while Exynos 980 scored 88987 points.

The difference between the total AnTuTu benchmark score of the two mobile phones is 10,000 points, which is less than 3%. This slight difference in score can’t be felt by everyday users of phones with both SoCs. So even though we are comparing the Samsung Exynos 980 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G AnTuTu benchmarks, the differences in running points have no practical significance because it does not affect anything noticeable at all.

Before the company starts selling the devices from 31st December, it had opened reservations for the same.

Now, the company has revealed that the reservations for the Oppo Reno3 series smartphones have exceeded the 1.46 million mark. Out of those 1.5 million registrations, about 580,000 came through JD.com and it has also been said that the lineup became the booking champion on TMall for 2019.

Since the announcement was made a couple of days ago, the numbers may have exceeded the 1.5 million mark by now. However, do note that these are just the registration numbers and not the actual sales. It remains to be seen how the device actually performs in the market in terms of sales.

As for the pricing, the Oppo Reno3 5G smartphone starts at 3,399 yuan (approximately $486) for the 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM variant and goes up to 3,699 yuan (approx. $528) for the 12GB RAM and 128GB variant.

Design

All of these phones are very stylish and futuristic. They all feature an amazing punch-hole display with very narrow bezels around it. If I had to choose, I would personally go for the Oppo Reno3 Pro. It has a very clean design thanks to a very small punch hole, an in-display fingerprint reader and all the camera elements included in the rear camera module. Further, it comes in very attractive color variants and it is even one of the thinnest handsets out there to feature a battery with a capacity above 4000 mAh (just 7.7 mm thin). Last but not least it is lighter, it only weighs 171 grams.

Display

Besides more attractive design, Oppo Reno3 Pro also provides a better display. It has a lower 90 Hz refresh rate than Redmi K30 5G (the K30 has a 120 Hz refresh rate), but it has a better color reproduction and an AMOLED panel, unlike the latest Xiaomi’s 5G mid-ranger. You even get a higher brightness, stereo speakers and an HDR10+ compliant display. Redmi K30 5G has a smoother 120 Hz display but it is an LCD panel, so you may remain a bit disappointed with the overall quality. But it is still a great panel since it supports HDR.

Hardware/Software

You should not underestimate the new Exynos 980 chipset which debuted on board of the Vivo X30, also known as the first SoC with an integrated 5G modem. According to benchmarks, it is definitely better than the Snapdragon 765G found on the Redmi K30 5G and the Oppo Reno3 Pro, despite the Snapdragon 765G is considered a better choice for a lot of people. Further, Oppo Reno3 Pro is the only coming with up to 12 GB of RAM, so it delivers definitely better performance overall. Oppo Reno3 Pro and Redmi K30 5G have Android 10 out of the box, while Vivo X30 is still based on Android 9 Pie.

Camera

Oppo Reno3 Pro and Vivo X30 have the most convincing cameras and, unlike the Redmi K30 5G, they are high-end camera phones. Unfortunately, we still did not test them thoroughly, so we still can not give you our definitive opinion about their camera performance. Vivo X30 looks definitely impressive with its 32 MP telephoto lens and its 64 MP main sensor with OIS, while Oppo Reno3 Pro has a more common camera department but it offers an additional monochromatic sensor and a brighter focal aperture (as well as an amazing optical stabilization).

Battery

Due to its bigger 4500 mAh battery, Redmi K30 5G should last more on a single charge. But this does not mean you do not get an amazing battery life with Oppo Reno3 Pro and Vivo X30. The Vivo X30 should have a longer battery life than Oppo Reno3 Pro thanks to a bigger 4350 mAh.

Price

Vivo X30’s price starts from €420 in India (still not sold in China), Redmi K30 5G starts from just €255 in China, and Oppo Reno3 Pro starts from $572 in China. None of these devices is sold globally at the moment. While Redmi K30 5G offers the highest value for money, Oppo Reno3 Pro has a better design and display and it is more or less at the same level as the Vivo X30 (which should offer slightly higher performance and longer battery life).

Now, ahead of the launch, the company has shared yet another teaser video, highlighting the Reno3 Pro smartphone’s key features.

The video basically highlights and compiles what the company has already teased about the upcoming smartphone. It shows that the phone will come with a full-screen design with a punch-hole display at the top-left corner for housing front-facing cameras.

https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Oppo-Reno3-Pro-Teaser.mp4

It also highlights that fact that the bezel around the display is very narrow and thus it offers higher screen-to-body ratio. On the back side, the smartphone features a gradient color scheme to make its look attractive.

The smartphone comes equipped with a quad-camera setup on the back and the company has also confirmed that the device measures just 7.7mm in thickness. Further, all the models in the series will come with support for 5G connectivity.

As per the leaks, the Reno3 5G has a full HD+ 6.4-inch AMOLED display with waterdrop notch. On the other side, the Reno3 Pro 5G has a full HD+ curved AMOLED punch-hole display with 90Hz refresh rate support.
The company has already revealed some of the key features and specifications of the smartphone. It is already known that both the Reno3 and Reno3 Pro will be the first devices from Oppo to have dual-mode SA/NSA 5G support.

Now, Oppo’s Vice President Shen Yiren has shed light on the phone’s antenna design. He has revealed that the smartphones will come with a 360-degree surround antenna design which will help keep the signal stable even when playing games or doing other things.

With the use-case of the smartphones changing, mobile manufacturers are coming up with new designs for antenna to make sure that the phone-holding pattern of the user doesn’t mess with the signal reception, a phenomenon known as “death grip”. And this offering from Oppo is in line with that.

It is also said that the phone will intelligently switch between 4G and 5G connections, depending on what you’re doing, the internal temperature and battery consumption. For example, launching a video will put the modem in 5G mode so that it can pre-load the video and start playback as quickly as possible.

EDITOR’S PICK: Xiaomi leads Smart TV market in India with 33 percent market share

Recently launched Redmi K30 smartphone also comes with an unusual 12 antennas, which is about 2.4 times the number that is found in 4G smartphones. The company also mentioned that it is now using a new structural design and complex RF solution to make 5G signals stronger and much more stable.

Oppo Reno3 is expected to come powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1000 SoC while the Pro model is expected to pack Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, the same processor that powers the Redmi K30 5G smartphone.

Since the company has revealed almost every major feature for the upcoming smartphones, only the variants and pricing details remain to be seen, which will be revealed during the launch event in the coming days. Oppo will also launch its Enco Free TWS earbuds at the same event.
