The official community post says that the initial rollout is only a part of the first batch, meaning more batches will be following soon. If you haven’t received a notification for the update, then you may need to wait a while. Just make sure you’re on firmware version C.42/C.43/C.44 on the Reno4/Reno4 Pro beforehand, though.

And now that the Indian and Indonesian variants of the devices in question are getting it, it’s safe to assume that other regions will be following soon.

To check for the latest available update on your Reno4 or Reno4 Pro, head over to Settings > Software update. If you aren’t on the latest ColorOS 11 build, then you may not get the ColorOS 12 notification so might want to ensure that first.

ColorOS 12 is based on Android 12 and arrives with a bunch of new features plus improvements. Elements throughout the interface have been tweaked visually, be it icons, the quick settings panel, or system apps. You also get some of those enhanced A12 privacy features such as the new Privacy Dashboard and microphone and camera Indicators.

The OPPO Reno4 and Reno4 Pro were launched back in July 2020 with Android 10 and the ColorOS 12 is likely the very last major update for the duo. OPPO may continue sending out security updates for some time, though.

At the moment, top smartphone brands are fighting to capture a better footing in the emerging 5G handset market in the region. Back in June 2020, Oppo launches its Reno4 series that offered the newer and faster bandwidth along with great performance with a price of around 3,000 Yuan (roughly 428 US Dollars). Since its launch, market analysts and research has revealed interesting new data regarding the market.

Despite the overall smartphone sales being affected by ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the 5G smartphone market has exceeded expectations. The annual sales volume of 5G enabled devices is expected to hit 150 million units, up from 120 million units from last year. In June, the launch of the Reno4 series helped boost Oppo’s 5G smartphone sales, with an increase of 50 percent month on month when compared to May.

The market analysis also revealed that the sub 2,500-2,999 Yuan (roughly 356 to 428 US Dollars) is by far the most popular price point at which customers tend to buy 5G smartphones. Hence, the Reno4 series with its sub 3,000 Yuan price point fits perfectly with the market demand and price to performance value. Furthermore, this even led to Oppo witnessing four consecutive weeks of sales growth.

It is definitely one of the cheapest phones with the support of fifth-generation networks in the whole market, but is its value for money high enough to be preferred to other recent 5G mid-rangers?

Design

All of these handset offer a modern design, but the most wonderful is the Vivo X50 which comes with a glass back, an aluminum frame like flagships and even a very high screen-to-body ratio, the highest of this comparison. You get a display with a single punch-hole inside and even an in-display fingerprint reader so that the glass back is totally clean with the exception of the camera elements. Oppo Reno4 comes right after, it has a very clean and futuristic design too. But it has a dual punch-hole and a lower screen-to-body ratio than Vivo X50. It is even thinner and lighter, one of the thinnest 5G phones released, that is why Vivo X50 is my favorite choice.

Display

With the Vivo X50, you even get the best display. It is an AMOLED panel with a 90 Hz refresh rate and the HDR10+ certification, so it provides both a smooth viewing experience and a great image quality. iQOO Z1x 5G has HDR10 and an even higher refresh rate (120 Hz!), but unfortunately, it sports a disappointing TFT panel which is not even close to the Vivo X50 in terms of image quality. Oppo Reno4 has an AMOLED display, but with a standard refresh rate.

Hardware/Software

iQOO Z1x 5G, Oppo Reno4 and Vivo X50 are based on the Snapdragon 765G mobile platform, they sport up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. Exactly the same hardware department, so you would get more or less the same performance and the same 5G connectivity with SA/NSA standards and an integrated Snapdragon X52 modem. The software is what changes: iQOO UI, ColorOS, and Funtouch OS, respectively, all based on Android 10.

Camera

Vivo X50 is again the winner, even when it comes to the camera quality. Vivo X50 is the only one with OIS, it has an additional telephoto lens which is not present on its rivals, and it provides a way better photo quality. Oppo Reno4 only wins the selfie comparison thanks to a dual 32 + 2 MP front camera including a depth sensor. iQOO Z1x is the most disappointing one as a camera phone, simply do not choose it if you need great photos and videos.

Battery

Finally an aspect under which iQOO Z1x takes the crown: it has the longest battery life thanks to its bigger 5000 mAh battery. On the other hand, with the Oppo Reno4, you get the fastest charging technology with a 65W power. It can fully charge in just 36 minutes from 0 to 100 percent.

Price

iQOO Z1x is priced just €200/$226 in its base variant, Oppo Reno4 costs €370/$418, and Vivo X50 carries a €451/$510 price tag. There is no doubt about the fact that Vivo X50 is the most advanced phone of this comparison. But you can get the same performance and a longer battery life for less money with the iQOO Z1x. So if you do not care about cameras, design and image quality, iQOO Z1x is enough for you. Oppo Reno4 sits in the middle, it will let you save some money, but you have to face compromises when it comes to the camera department and the display, compared to the Vivo X50.

Yes, because 5G is still not widely used and it is currently not necessary to do every activity with satisfying connection speeds. In the coming years, the situation will change all around the world, but if you get a mid-ranger like the newly-announced Vivo V19 Neo, you will save money, so you will be able to get a 5G phone in the future without worrying so much. If you want to keep the same device for several years, then it is probably better to get a 5G-enabled phone like OPPO Reno4 5G and Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G. But if we exclude the connectivity, it is worth spending more on these two devices? Let’s discover it together through a specs comparison highlighting the main differences.

Design

In my honest opinion, OPPO Reno4 has the most stunning design because it is built with premium materials. It sports a glass back protected by Gorilla Glass 6 (the display has the latest Corning’s protection as well) paired with an aluminum frame, just like the most expensive flagship smartphones. Further, it comes with a dual punch hole instead of the notch found on the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G. Vivo V19 Neo is made of polycarbonate, but it is still a very elegant device thanks to its punch-hole display and a very high screen-to-body ratio. But the premium materials, the attractive color variants, and the less invasive camera module would make me go for the OPPO Reno4.

Display

Despite being affordable phones, Oppo Reno4, Vivo V19 Neo, and Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite all come with AMOLED displays. So they show brilliant colors and deep blacks and they are also very efficient. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G deserves to be considered because it is the only device from the trio to sport an HDR10+ panel, but this does not mean that it will provide a better quality in all the scenarios. As this comparison is only based on the specs on the paper and these panels are similar, we can not give you a definitive verdict until we tested all of these handsets.

Hardware/Software

The most impressive hardware belongs to both the Oppo Reno4 and the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite which come with a Snapdragon 765G processor (including a 5G integrated modem), up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of native storage. They have upper-midrange hardware that behaves well with every kind of activity, including multi-tasking and gaming. Vivo V19 Neo has an inferior processor and it does not support 5G, but on the other hand, it offers a micro SD slot to expand the internal storage, unlike Oppo Reno4 and Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite. On the software side, you get Android 10 with a highly-customized user interface.

Camera

All of these devices are more than sufficient as camera phones, but they are just midrange camera phones. I like the rear camera of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite because it is the only able to record 4K videos at 60 fps, but I also like the bright focal aperture of the Oppo Reno4 which should allow clicking better photos in the dark. The best front camera department belongs to Oppo Reno4 sporting a dual front camera including a 32 MP main snapper and a depth sensor for a better bokeh effect and depth info calculation.

Battery

The longest battery life will be probably offered by the Vivo V19 Neo for two simple reasons: the Vivo V19 Neo has a bigger 4500 mAh battery and it does not support 5G. With some usage patterns (if you do not use 5G and avoid energy-demanding activities), you may get a longer battery life with the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite due to its more efficient chipset built at 7 nm. Oppo Reno4 has the smallest battery but on the other hand, it is one of the fastest-charging phones ever. Thanks to its SuperVOOC 2.0 technology with a 65W power, it is able to charge from 0 to 100 percent in just 36 minutes.

Price

You can get the Oppo Reno4 in China with prices starting from €370/$416, Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite begins at €328/$369, and Vivo V19 Neo costs just €270/$304. Unless you want to save a consistent amount of money, we do not recommend the Vivo V19 Neo. Oppo Reno4 has the best build quality, blazing charging speeds, and the greatest front camera, while Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite offers HDR10+ and a battery which should last a bit longer. What would your choice be?

But are they the mid-rangers with the highest value for money out there or you can find something better in the actual smartphone market? We think there is no better reason to understand this than comparing the new OPPO Reno4 with its most recent rivals in the same price segment. That is why we decided to write a specs comparison between OPPO Reno4, Redmi 10X, and Realme X50, all mid-rangers, all with 5G support.

Design

At first glance, you might not notice important differences between the designs of these three handsets. But if you dig deeper, you find that OPPO Reno4 is more premium than its two rivals. It is more compact, thinner, and even lighter than Redmi 10X and Realme X50. Further, it boasts a glass back and an aluminum frame, while Redmi 10X has a glass back and a plastic frame. It is even more elegant thanks to its camera module sporting the same color as the rear side, and let’s not talk about its higher screen-to-body ratio. I do not like the Redmi 10X so much due to its big and central rear camera module, while Realme X50 looks pretty elegant and it adopts the same materials as the OPPO Reno4, but in a bigger and thicker body.

Display

On the paper, Redmi 10X 5G looks like the device with the most impressive display. It is the only device with a display sporting the HDR10+ certification, and it is AMOLED. But this does not necessarily mean it is a better panel: OPPO always used great AMOLED panels on the Reno lineup, so do not underestimate the Reno4. Unfortunately (at least for most of the potential users), Realme X50 5G has an IPS display, but on the other hand, it supports a high 120 Hz refresh rate and it is one of the most affordable smartphones with a so high refresh rate.

Hardware/Software

The most awesome handset in terms of the hardware department is the Realme X50 5G, at least in its most impressive variant. It sports an amazing Snapdragon 765G chipset paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. Redmi 10X 5G offers the same chipset and less RAM (up to 8 GB), while Redmi 10X looks less interesting with its Dimensity 820 chipset, but it is the only with a micro SD slot to expand the internal storage. Android 10 is installed out of the box on all of these devices, with a highly-customized user interface.

Camera

The winner of the camera comparison is the Realme X50 5G which is equipped with a 64 MP quad camera on the rear side, including a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. OPPO Reno4 and Redmi 10X are equipped with a triple camera and they lack a telephoto sensor. Further, you may be interested in the fact that Realme X50 5G is the only with a dual ultrawide front camera. OPPO Reno4 has a dual front camera (and its main sensor is even better than Realme X50 5G), but the secondary sensor is just a depth sensor.

Battery

The Redmi 10X 5G should guarantee the longest battery life on a single charge because it sports a bigger 4520 mAh battery and it comes with a standard refresh rate. OPPO Reno4 wins the charging speed battle thanks to its 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging technology.

Price

OPPO Reno4 is priced about €370/$418 in its base variant, Xiaomi asks just €200/$226 for the Redmi 10X, while Realme X50 5G is priced €220/$248. While Redmi 10X has a higher value for money, OPPO Reno4 and Realme X50 5G look more impressive. There is not a definitive winner of this comparison as you should choose depending on your needs, after checking the pro and cons of each device.

The OPPO Reno4 Pro is the real star of the series featuring a curved AMOLED display upfront and a 3D curved back for better ergonomics. The standard Reno4 comes with a simple, flat AMOLED panel. Both the phones have triple cameras at the back, but the Pro variant packs a more powerful setup. You also get a bunch of fancy colors on the Reno4 Pro including the brand new Reno Glow Blue and Reno Glow Red color variants. There’s even a Pantene Summer Green edition for the Pro model alongside two other regular Black and White color options. The standard Reno4 has three color options: Diamond Blue, Black, and White.

OPPO Reno4 & Reno4 Pro Specs

Both models are powered by the Snapdragon 765G processor with Adreno 620 GPU. You get liquid cooling too to ensure the phone doesn’t overheat when running intensive tasks. Naturally, given the CPU, both the devices come with 5G support too. The Reno4 has just 8GB of RAM with 128GB and 256GB storage options, but the Reno4 Pro includes a top-end 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM variant too.

oppo reno4

As for the display, the Reno4 comes with a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel while the Reno4 Pro has a much better 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling rate, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, HDR10+ and low Blue Light certification. Another big feature exclusive to the Reno4 Pro model is dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound.

Both the phones feature a 4000mAh battery with 65W SuperVOOC fast charging. This fills up the battery to 60% in just 15 minutes and 100% in just 36 minutes. They also run on the new ColorOS 7.2 UI based on Android 10.

They both have a laser focus sensor.

Both models come with OPPO’s ultra-clear low light algorithm, which was reportedly developed for more than a year in the company’s institute. The new night algorithm enables clear and colorful night videos. They also support OPPO’s Video Anti-Shake 3.0 technology when using the ultra-wide-angle sensor as well as front camera video stabilization.

The new Reno4 models add a live HDR video mode and 21:9 custom movie shooting mode with manual parameter adjustment options which the company claims offer a more professional shooting experience. This paired with OPPO’s Soloop video editor which features classic movie filters and soundtracks, you can produce high-quality videos right from your Reno4 smartphone.

Both phones support up to 4K 30fps and up to 720p 240fps slo-mo video shooting from its rear cameras. The front cameras are also capable of 1080p 30fps videography.

Both models have front video stabilization (software) and AI Smart Beauty ‘face repair’ algorithm that enhances clarity and fixes blurry faces even when the lighting is dim.

The company had recently confirmed the same through a short video teaser.

Now, the company has officially shared renders of the upcoming Reno4 series smartphones which is expected to have at least two models — OPPO Reno4 and Reno4 Pro. In another teaser, the company has confirmed that the device will come with an ultra-thin body and a new touch experience.

https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OPPO-Reno4-Teaser.mp4

From what the company has showcased so far, the phone has a curved glass back which has large-sized Reno Glow written. There’s volume rocker keys on the left side of the phone while the power button is on the right side.

Interestingly, none of the teaser images or video shared by the company showcases the front panel of the display. It seems that the company is holding up for the big reveal of the so-called “new touch experience” that it is teasing to offer with the Reno4 series.

The renders have confirmed that the smartphone will come with a triple-camera setup on the back, along with an LED flash and a Laser focus support. It has already been confirmed that the smartphones will come with 5G support.
