Last week, reported that OPPO had finished the ColorOS 12 stable rollout for January 2022. However, just a few days later, the company has proved us wrong. Because it has now started rolling out the update for two more devices that weren’t supposed to receive it this month. These phones got access to beta builds ahead of Christmas.

OPPO has begun to seed the Android 12-based ColorOS 12 stable update for OPPO Reno5 and OPPO Reno6. The OPPO Reno5 Marvel Edition also gets access to the new software at the same time. It is being pushed with the following firmware versions in Indonesia.

OPPO Reno5, OPPO Reno5 Marvel Edition

• Region: Indonesia

• Required Firmware: A.28, A.29

OPPO Reno6

• Region: Indonesia
• Firmware Version: C.08
• Required Firmware: A.10, A.11

In order to check whether their unit has got the update, users of the aforementioned smartphones can head over to Settings > Software Update.

Since the latest software update for the phone is being sent via OTA, it may take some time to reach every user. For the uninitiated, OTA rollout is usually carried out in a batched manner, so that the company can pull back the update easily without affecting many users in case of any major bug.

Having said that, if you happen to have installed the update on your OPPO handset, then do let us know your experience in the section below. This may help users who haven’t got it.

OPPO has begun to recruit ColorOS 12 beta testers for a new batch of devices in international markets. The latest handsets to join the beta program include OPPO Reno6, OPPO Reno5, OPPO Reno5 Marvel Edition Edition, and OPPO A74 5G.

After releasing Android 12-based ColorOS 12 beta builds for expensive and newer phones, OPPO has now turned its focus to older and less-expensive devices for the same purpose.

According to official announcement posts on OPPO Community, the beta registrations are currently live for the following smartphones.

• OPPO Reno6

  • Region: Indonesia
  • Firmware Required: A.10

• OPPO Reno5, OPPO Reno5 Marvel Edition

  • Region: Indonesia
  • Firmware Required: A.28

• OPPO A74 5G

  • Region: India, Indonesia
  • Firmware Required: A.12

In order to enroll in the program, users will have to go to Settings > Software Update > Gear Icon > Apply for Beta Version > Update Beta Version and follow the on-screen instructions. The company is only recruiting only 5,000 testers for a single phone in each region for the first batch.

Selected applicants will receive the ColorOS 12 beta update via OTA within 3 days from the selection. Those who don’t get recruited will get a chance in the next batch.

Unfortunately, OPPO is not known for revealing the stable release timeline for its software. However, going by the current pace of ColorOS 12 stable rollout, these handsets could get access to stable builds as early as late January 2022.

Huawei is finally back in the global market with an upper-midrange phone: the Huawei Nova 9. Unfortunately, the handset does not come with Google Mobile Services, but it has HarmonyOS on board and great specifications if we consider its listing price. Does it still represent a great choice if compared to the concurrence? In order to understand it, we decided to compare it with the other upper-midrange phones offering a high value for money. This is a comparison between the specifications of Huawei Nova 9, OPPO Reno6 5G, and Realme GT Master Edition.

Design

Each of these handsets has its original design elements. Which one provides the best design? It is mostly a matter of tastes. The Huawei Nova 9 offers a premium look and feel, as well as a curved screen at the sides which you can usually find only on flagship phones. With the OPPO Reno6 5G, you get a flat display and flat border just like the latest iPhones: currently, just a few handsets have this form factor in the Android world. The Realme GT Master Edition comes in a special variant called Voyager Gray sporting a leather back. Due to its wider display, the Huawei Nova 9 comes with bigger dimensions, while the OPPO Reno6 5G is the thinnest and most compact one.

Display

If you are looking for the most advanced display, you should go for the Huawei Nova 9. It is the only one with an OLED display able to show up to one billion colors and it provides the HDR10 certification, as well as a 120 Hz refresh rate. The Realme GT Master Edition comes right after with an AMOLED display providing a Full HD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate, but just 16 million colors. The OPPO Reno6 5G is more or less at the same level in terms of image quality, but it has a lower 90 Hz refresh rate. All of the phones are equipped with an in-display fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

Huawei Nova 9 and Realme GT Master Edition are powered by the same Snapdragon 778G mobile platform paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS internal storage. The Snapdragon 778G is a slightly better processor if compared to the Dimensity 900 found on the OPPO Reno6 5G, but this handset has a memory configuration offering 12 GB of RAM in select markets (not Europe). Al the phones run Android 11 but, unfortunately, the Huawei Nova 9 does not have Google Mobile Services due to the limitations of the U.S. ban.

Camera

The most advanced rear camera belongs to the OPPO Reno6 5G: it has a better main camera with a brighter focal aperture. But with the Huawei Nova 9, you get a better front camera.

Battery

The biggest battery is provided by the Realme GT Master Edition which should also provide a longer battery life in most scenarios. OPPO Reno6 5G and Huawei Nova 9 have smaller 4300 mAh batteries, but they provide the same charging speeds as the Realme GT Master Edition thanks to 65W and 66W fast charging.

Price

The price of the OPPO Reno6 5G for the global market is €499/$570, just like the Huawei Nova 9. The Realme GT Master Edition starts from €349/$400 but you can find it for less than €300 thanks to online street prices. Given that there are no important differences between these three handsets, the Realme GT Master is the device offering the highest value for money and it even comes with a bigger battery. A lot of 5G upper mid-range phones debuted in the second half of 2021, including brand new variants and new series of phones. Vivo T1 for example is the first phone from the Vivo T series, while Redmi Note 11 Pro+ is the first Pro+ variant from the Redmi Note lineup. But which phone is the most interesting in the upper-midrange segment? There are three very interesting choices and we decided to put them together in a specs comparison: OPPO Reno6 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro+, and Vivo T1.

Design

Are you looking for the best and most original design? The answer is OPPO Reno6 5G. First of all, it has the best materials: the rear side is made of glass, while the frame is made of aluminum. Further, it has the OPPO Glow finish allowing for an opaque but brilliant glass back giving a very elegant and pleasing effect. The silver medal goes to Redmi Note 11 Pro+ sporting a glass back and a plastic frame. I do not like the Vivo T1 so much because it has a full plastic design and a lower screen to body ratio.

Display

On the paper, the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ has the most advanced display. It is an AMOLED panel with a 6.67-inch diagonal, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10 certification improving the image quality on streaming platforms. The Vivo T1 has similar specifications but its panel is an IPS, which means less impressive colors if compared to the Redmi Note 11 Pro+. The OPPO Reno6 5G has an AMOLED display as well, but with a lower 90 Hz refresh rate and without the HDR10 certification. Note that OPPO Reno6 5G is the only one with an in-display fingerprint reader, while Redmi Note 11 Pro+ and Vivo T1 have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Specs & Software

If you are searching for the best hardware, then you should opt for the Vivo T1 without thinking twice. It is fueled by the amazing Snapdragon 778G mobile platform built at 6 nm and paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The second place belongs to the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ with a Dimensity 920 chipset, up to 8 GB of RAM, and up to 256 GB of native storage. The OPPO Reno6 5G has an inferior Dimensity 900 paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The phones run Android 11 with heavily customized UIs.

Camera

The most impressive camera setup on the front side belongs to the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ which includes a 108 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide camera, and a 2 MP macro camera. Both OPPO Reno6 5G and Vivo T1 come with a 64 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide lens, and a 2 MP macro camera, but the OPPO Reno6 5G has a brighter focal aperture for the main sensor and even a better selfie camera with a 32 MP resolution.

Battery

The phone with the biggest battery is the Vivo T1 sporting a capacity of 5000 mAh, but you should note that it has a less efficient IPS display, so it does not always guarantee the longest battery life. The Redmi Note 11 Pro+ wins the fast charging comparison with a power of 120W.

Price

The prices of Redmi Note 11 Pro+ begin at €260/$300 in China, Vivo T1 starts from €300/$347, and Reno6 costs about €350/$405. There is no definitive winner of this comparison and each device has its pro and cons: OPPO Reno6 5G has a better design and front camera, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ offers an advanced main camera and faster charging, and Vivo T1 has a bigger battery and superior hardware. Which one would you pick?

Last month, OPPO unveiled ColorOS 12 in China. Since then, the company has been rolling out beta builds for eligible devices in the country. A few days after the software’s global launch, the firm has now started recruiting testers for the Reno6 series in its home country.

According to the update timeline provided by OPPO, the OPPO Reno6 series is scheduled to receive Android 12-based ColorOS 12 open beta in China in November. Ahead of that, the company has now opened closed beta registrations for these devices.

As per an official announcement post on OPPO Community (via ITHome), the Chinese smartphone maker will be recruiting Android 12 beta testers for the following OPPO Reno6 series handsets till tomorrow (October 19) at 11 AM (local time).

• OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G
• OPPO Reno6 Pro+ 5G

The OPPO Reno6 Pro+ 5G Detective Conan Limited Edition is not eligible for the closed beta program. However, it has been confirmed to receive open beta builds alongside the regular Reno6 Pro+ 5G.

Having said that, the firm will be currently recruiting only 700 users for the closed beta initiative. Applicants will be selected within the next 5 days and they will start receiving the update via OTA within 3 days from the selection.

As far as international markets are concerned, these phones will directly receive open beta builds in November, as per the plan shared by OPPO.

OPPO announced the OPPO Reno 6 5G alongside the OPPO Reno 6 Pro 5G in India in mid-July. The device is on sale in the country since the end of July. It is ₹10,000 cheaper than the Pro model and offers almost all the features of its bigger sibling with some exceptions. 

So is it really a better option of the two? Let’s find out the answer in my review.

OPPO Reno 6 5G Review

This review of OPPO Reno 6 5G is based on the author’s first-hand experience with a review unit loaned by OPPO India. The opinions stated here are the author’s alone.

The smartphone was running ColorOS 11.3 based on Android 11 with firmware version CPH2251_11_A.14 throughout the review period.

This review will be divided into the following two sections.

• The usual vanilla model dilemma
• Why does user experience matters?

The usual vanilla model dilemma

The OPPO Reno 6 5G is the smaller sibling of the OPPO Reno 6 Pro 5G that I reviewed back in July. The phone shares its DNA with the expensive model. However, to keep the price down, it arrives with an inferior set of specs.

Hence, there’s a dilemma whether you should save some bucks by opting for the vanilla model or go all-in for the Pro variant.

The OPPO Reno 6 has a smaller 6.43-inch flat AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels (FHD+), a 90Hz refresh rate, and good sunlight visibility with up to 750 nits peak brightness. The panel resolution is fine for the asking price, but the refresh rate isn’t, given the competitors offer a 120Hz refresh rate.

Since the Pro model itself comes with the same refresh rate, I don’t find this as a con. Above all, 90Hz is enough to experience smoothness throughout the UI. A normal user won’t find a significant difference between 90Hz and 120Hz or more refresh rates.

Personally, I liked the curved display on the Reno 6 Pro as opposed to a flat-screen on the Reno 6. Because curved screens enable a better experience for gesture controls.

Talking about the design, although the vanilla Reno 6 features the same OPPO Reno Glow design as its costlier brother, there’s a distinction between the two. The AG glass on both phones look identical with a similar hue, but they feel different in your hand.

Both devices have crystal structures on the rear, but the ones on the Pro variant are more prominent. In other words, you can sort of feel the crystals while holding the Reno 6 Pro. At least, that’s what I remember from my experience. The same cannot be said for the vanilla Reno 6.

Additionally, I felt more comfortable holding the Reno 6 Pro. Because the curved rear and front of the phone with a thin frame nested in my hands without the sharp sensation, which I felt while holding the Reno 6.

Though the iPhone 12/13 series-like metal frame on the Reno 6 offers good grip, my preference is towards the plastic frame on the Reno 6 Pro.

But there’s one thing that I don’t like about these two handsets. That’s none other than their cameras. The Reno 6 not only has a near-identical camera setup, but also a very similar processing standard.

It features the same 64MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide shooter, 2MP macro snapper, and 32MP selfie camera from the Reno 6 Pro. The only lens it misses is the 2MP monochrome sensor.

The output from these cameras is average, just like the cameras of Reno 6 Pro. This applies to both still photography and videography. Thankfully, OPPO appears to have fixed the issue with brightness with new system updates. Users need not fiddle with the slider to adjust brightness every time they click pictures.

Another noticeable improvement is in skin color tones. They are better than earlier, but not perfect. Hopefully, we will finally get to see true-to-life skin color tones from the cameras of Reno phones in the near future.

At the end of the day, the cameras need further improvements. Perhaps, we might see more refinements in the subsequent OTA software updates.

Coming to the performance, the MediaTek Dimensity 900 inside this handset is comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G present inside the devices like iQOO Z3 5G. It is capable of playing high-end games in average graphic settings. 

It has the same optimization issues in games as I faced on the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-powered Reno 6 Pro. This restricts the phone from utilizing the silicon’s true potential. However, I did not face any performance issues in day-to-day usage.

Now, as I am done talking about where the phone has cut corners, let’s take a look at why this smartphone matters despite its shortcomings.

Why does user experience matters?

A few years back, smartphones were all about specifications. When I was a high schooler and in my early days of college, even I was obsessed with specs. But I eventually realized that the decision of buying any device should not be solely dependent on specifications and features, rather it should be based on day-to-day user experience. Let me explain this using the OPPO Reno 6 5G.

The Reno 6 has its shortcomings, as discussed above, but that doesn’t make it a bad purchase. Because it offers certain things that can be experienced only by using the handset yourself.

The hardware powering the device is nothing without the software that users interact with. The Reno 6 nails this with ColorOS 11.3 based on Android 11. I never felt that I was using a mid-range smartphone. The phone felt as smooth as its more expensive OPPO Reno 6 Pro 5G sibling.

The only noticeable difference for me at least was the app opening times. A random user wouldn’t know this unless they have used smartphones with more powerful processors.

That said, the software is not perfect because of a few reasons. The ‘Browser’ and the ‘Theme Store’ throw push notifications every day though I have never opened these applications even once. Then, there’s the ‘Hot Apps’ apps recommendation folder that neither can be uninstalled nor disabled.

There are also several preloaded apps, in addition to Google Phone and Google Messages, instead of stock ColorOS Contacts and Messages applications.

I am not against OEMs using Google Phone and Google Messages because of the ‘call recording notification’ that most people detest. I don’t like them because they look out of place on an Android skin that’s not designed by Google.

As far as the connectivity is concerned, the device has a dual-SIM card slot that offers 5G connectivity. It has support for 13 5G bands and therefore, users need not worry about compatibility when the networks go live in India in the future.

Then, there’s VoLTE, VoWiFi, dual-band WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The internet experience through both WiFi and 4G mobile data is seamless. I didn’t face any call drops either. Also, the connection with Bluetooth earphones remained stable without any issue.

The earpiece and microphone perform well, as they should. The performance of the mono speaker is good, but it could have been even better with a stereo setup.

The best thing about the OPPO Reno 6 5G is its endurance. The phone can easily last for two days on moderate usage that does not involve gaming. 

The standby performance is also fantastic. It’s difficult to kill this handset’s battery in a day unless you game or use cameras extensively.

Even if it dies, the battery can be fueled up in around 30 minutes, thanks to SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging protocol. The smartphone not only ships with the required charger and cable, but also a pair of USB Type-C earphones and a transparent silicone case.

In a nutshell, customers get everything out of the box. They even need not invest in a screen protector as soon as they make the purchase. Because the handset comes with a basic screen protector pre-applied.

The only thing that hampers user experience on the Reno 6 is its haptics. OPPO shouldn’t have cut corners on this one. The haptics from the Reno 6 Pro should have been retained.

Now you know why day-to-day experience matters more than the specs. It is not a pleasure to use a smartphone without these traits. Hence, I personally prefer using a mid-range device with a good user experience rather than investing in a phone with powerful specs that lack crucial attributes discussed above.

Conclusion

Just like the OPPO Reno 6 Pro 5G, the OPPO Reno 6 5G is not meant for everyone. If you are one of those customers who value user experience over specifications and features, then you should definitely consider checking out this handset.

On the other hand, I certainly do not recommend this phone to those looking for a device for gaming or cameras. There are better options in this price segment for these purposes.

After the initial launches in China and India, OPPO launched the Reno6 series in Europe as well. The European market got two variants of the lineup: the OPPO Reno6 5G and the Reno6 Pro 5G. The latter is not the same Reno6 Pro we saw in China, but it is a rebrand of the higher-end Reno6 Pro+ 5G as it features the same specifications. Is it worth spending more for the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G or the vanilla version is enough for your needs? This comparison between the specifications of the two handsets will help you to find out.

OPPO Reno6 5G vs OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G (Global)

Design

The vanilla Reno6 5G has a very original design: just like the last two generations of iPhones, it has a brick-like design with flat borders, and currently, there is not any phone from a mainstream brand in the Android world that features such a design. It is also a more compact phone than its Pro sibling, thanks to the presence of a smaller display. On the other hand, the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G features an amazing design as well: with a thickness of just 6.99 mm, it is one of the thinnest phones in the whole market. Further, it is lightweight and it has an elegantly curved screen at the sides. Both the devices are built with the suggestive OPPO Glow finish providing an opaque but shining back cover inspired to crystallization.

Display

The differences between the displays of these handsets are not big. Both the phones are equipped with AMOLED panels sporting a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 90 Hz refresh rate. The OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G has a slightly bigger panel with a diagonal of 6.55 inches and the HDR10+ certification: the image quality provided by the Pro variant is slightly higher if compared to the vanilla version. The phones feature an in-display fingerprint reader for authentication and the Gorilla Glass 5 protection for the display, as well as a single punch hole placed on the top left corner of the screen.

Specs & Software

The OPPO Reno6 5G is a good mid-ranger that can withstand most of the usage patterns from the average user. It is fueled by the Dimensity 900 chipset paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage in the European market. In terms of hardware, the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G is a flagship: it is powered by the Snapdragon 870 mobile platform supported by 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. The Reno6 Pro 5G is perfect for all the power users, despite the Find X3 Pro provides even better hardware. The phones ship with Android 11 out of the box, customized by ColorOS 11.3, but they will be among the first to get the ColorOS 12 update.

Camera

The OPPO Reno6 5G is a good camera phone, but its camera department is nothing so special. It has a 64 MP triple camera on the rear side which includes an 8 MP ultrawide sensor and a 2 MP macro camera. The OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G is a high-end camera phone with the same main camera as the Find X3 Pro: the Sony IMX766 with a resolution of 50 MP and OIS. It also features a 13 MP telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom, a 16 MP ultrawide camera, and a 2 MP macro sensor. It is not among the best camera phones ever as it could have better secondary sensors, but it is great in every scenario.

Battery

The OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G houses a slightly bigger battery than the OPPO Reno6 5G: its capacity is 4500 mAh, while the vanilla version has just 4300 mAh. This said, both the devices are always able to provide a more sufficient battery life, but the Reno6 Pro 5G lasts more on a single charge. Both the phones support 65W fast charging.

Price

In the European market, the vanilla OPPO Reno6 5G carries a price tag of €499/$585 and it is only available in the 8/128 GB memory configuration. Earlier this month, we reported that Oppo will launch the Reno6 smartphones in the European markets in the coming days. Today, Oppo has launched the Oppo Reno6 series in Europe comprising of three smartphones – the Oppo Reno6 5G, Oppo Reno6 Pro 5G, and Oppo Reno6 4G.

Oppo Reno6 Series Pricing and Colors 

All three phones bring impressive specs with a streamlined design. The Oppo Reno6 Pro 5G is priced at EUR 799(~$947) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. It comes with a bundle that includes the Oppo Band Style, Oppo Enco X TWS earbuds, and a protective case. It is available in Arctic Blue and Lunar Grey colors.

On the other hand, the Oppo Reno6 5G is priced at EUR 499(~$590) for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. It also comes with a bundle offer that includes the Oppo Enco Free 2 TWS earbuds and a Radiant Lightning case. It is available in Arctic Blue and Stellar Black colors.

The details for the Reno6 4G are still under wraps but it is currently in the ‘coming soon’ status meaning that we should learn more details soon.

Oppo Reno6 5G and Reno6 Pro 5G Specifications 

Moving to the specs, the Oppo Reno6 Pro 5G is nothing but the Reno Pro+ 5G(Chinese edition). It comes with a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The Reno6 5G, on the other hand, has a smaller 6.43-inch panel with the same 90Hz refresh rate. Both the phones have a punch-hole screen with thin bezels.

The Reno6 Pro 5G has a triple rear camera system with a 50MP main lens, a 13MP telephoto camera, and lastly a 16MP ultra-wide lens. The Reno6 5G has a 64MP triple camera system at the rear.

Under the hood, the Pro 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC, whereas, the Reno6 5G has the Dimensity 900 SoC onboard. The Pro 5G packs a 4,500mAh battery and the vanilla model houses a smaller 4,300mAh battery. The duo supports a 65W fast charging support.

A couple of months ago, OPPO launched its latest flagship smartphone lineup — the OPPO Reno6 series in its home country China. Later, in the month of July, the devices were made available in the Indian market.

Now, the Chinese firm is expanding the footprints of the Reno6 series smartphones by launching the devices in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. The phones are set to launch in the coming days in these regions and the company has already started promotions on their respective social media accounts.

The OPPO Reno6 4G and 5G models are up for pre-orders in Egypt which will end on 4th September. The phone will be launched in Kenya on 6th September and the teaser shared by the company talks about the Bokeh Flare Portrait mode.

On 9th September, the next-generation Reno6 series 5G smartphones will be officially launched in Germany and France. The landing page for the upcoming device talks about the MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset. Earlier, it was reported that the Reno6 Pro+ is expected to be rebranded as Reno6 Pro in the European market.

It’s not yet known if these regions will be getting the OPPO Reno6 Pro smartphones and to know for sure, we’ll have to wait for the official launch event, set to take place in the coming days in different regions.

As for the specifications, the OPPO Reno6 5G features a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, 410 PPI pixel density, and 93.28% DCI-P3 color gamut. The display also offers a 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling rate, 600 nits peak brightness (typical), and 91.7% screen-to-body ratio.

The device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC, paired with 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. In the camera department, there’s a triple camera setup consisting of a 64-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide unit (119° FOV), and a 2-megapixel macro snapper.

On the front side, the phone features a 32-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling. The device running the Android 10 operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s own ColorOS, is powered by a 4,300mAh battery and comes with support for 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging technology.

A few days ago, the Realme GT Master Edition was officially announced for the global market, including Europe. Next month, the OPPO Reno6 5G will hit the global European market as well. The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G, an upgrade of the Galaxy A52 5G, made its debut a few days ago as well. These three devices share a lot of things in common: they come with similar specifications and they are sold in the same price range. That is the reason why we decided to publish a comparison to highlight the differences.

OPPO Reno6 vs Realme GT Master Edition vs Samsung Galaxy A52s

Design

While the OPPO Reno6 5G and the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G come with traditional designs including a plastic body, the Realme GT Master Edition has unique aesthetics thanks to leather back designed by the known Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa. That is the reason why, if you want the most interesting design, you should go for the Realme GT Master Edition. On the other hand, OPPO Reno6 has a thinner and lighter body, while the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is the only one to offer water and dust resistance with the IP67 certification.

Display

All of these phones are equipped with a Super AMOLED panel sporting a Full HD+ resolution. The Realme GT Master Edition and the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G have a higher refresh rate with a max of 120 Hz, while OPPO Reno6 5G stops at 90 Hz. The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G has a slightly wider panel with a diagonal of 6.5 inches (instead of 6.43 inches) and it comes with the Gorilla Glass 5 protection by Corning. All the phones come with an in-display fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

These devices are powered by upper-midrange hardware departments. The Snapdragon 778G mobile platform found on the Realme GT Master Edition and the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is a bit more powerful than the Mediatek Dimensity 900 found on the OPPO Reno6. But the OPPO Reno6 is the only one to offer up to 12 GB of RAM, so consider it in case you need a long-lasting phone for your productivity. OPPO Reno6 5G and Realme GT Master Edition have similar user interfaces based on Android 11 (Realme UI is based on ColorOS), while Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is totally different due to the One UI.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is the most advanced camera phone of this comparison. Its 64 MP main camera is the only one to support OIS. Further, the secondary ultrawide camera is better than OPPO Reno6 and Realme GT Master Edition with its 12 MP resolution. You also get a better 5 MP macro camera and an additional 5 MP depth sensor.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy A52s should provide a longer battery life because it sports a bigger battery (4500 mAh vs 4300 mAh), but OPPO Reno6 and Realme GT Master Edition support faster charging (65W vs 25W).

Price

Overall, Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is a more interesting phone, but its price tag is higher and it will be surely higher once it hits the global market. The Realme GT Master Edition has the best value for money since it is priced at less than €400/$470, while OPPO Reno6 5G will begin at €500/$587. Oppo India has recently shared that it has set a new benchmark in terms of quality assurance with its Reno6 series of smartphones. The company even shared videos of the device being passed through 150 rigorous quality tests.

These tests were undertaken in the Chinese tech giant’s QE Reliability Lab, established at the Greater Noida factory in India. In this site, the company had the Reno6 go through quality tests involving environmental tests, mechanical stress tests,
durability tests, and performance tests.

Tasleem Arif, VP, and R&D Head OPPO India added that “We are committed to represent quality without compromise, and all our products result from tireless efforts towards quality testing. Our focus is to empower users with premium devices that can endure bumps and spills and even exceed users durability requirements.”

Some of the more notable tests include drop and rain tests. To check the physical endurance of the smartphone, Oppo dropped the Reno6 front a height of 1.5 meters around 24 times. Furthermore, the company even dropped the phone into the water at a depth of 20 centimeters for 30 seconds to test its water resistance. The handset even had a USB cable and headphone jack inserted over 10,000 times each at varying angles.

In the environmental tests, the company tested the smartphone’s ability to function in varying temperatures. This includes extreme temperatures of about -40°C, as well as warm conditions such as 75°C for 7 days. Notably, this is more than double the industry standard of 3 days. The Oppo Lab also conducted rigorous tests on the radiation efficiency of the phone’s antennas. This includes 5G networking brands to also ensure seamless operation and connectivity across India.

Oppo on Monday launched the 4G version of the Oppo Reno6 in Indonesia. Unlike the 5G versions, the Oppo Reno6 4G comes with curved sides instead of the boxy design. Some of its major highlights are a 90Hz AMOLED screen, 64MP quad cameras, and 50W flash charging support.

The smartphone is priced at 5,199,000 Indonesian Rupiah(~$359) for the sole 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. It comes in two colors – Stellar Black and Aurora. It can be picked up from Oppo’s official website and other popular stores like Lazada and Shopee.

Oppo Reno6 4G Specifications 

The smartphone comes with 6.43-inch punch-hole display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. It is an AMOLED panel sporting Full-HD+ resolution and a 90Hz screen refresh rate. It has a 180Hz touch sampling rate and supports the DCI-P3 color gamut.

It flaunts a quad-rear camera system with a 64MP primary lens with an f/1.7 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with a 119-degree field of view, a 2MP macro sensor, and lastly a 2MP mono camera. Interestingly, it has a 44MP front camera for selfies.

The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G octa-core chipset coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It houses a 4,310mAh battery with support for 50W flash charging. It runs on ColorOS 11.1 based on Android 11 out of the box.

It has an in-display fingerprint scanner and supports face unlock for security. It has NFC support and features a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio needs.

Back in May, OPPO unveiled the Reno6 series in China succeeding the predecessor Reno5 series. Now, the Oppo Reno6 series is slated to launch in India this month and its specs were leaked. Today, a tipster named Debayan Roy, revealed the pricing of the Oppo Reno6 Pro on Twitter.

As per the tweet, the Oppo Reno6 Pro will cost ₹46,990 (~$631) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant in India. Interestingly, the phone is touted to arrive at an introductory price of either ₹42,990(~$577) or ₹43,990(~$591). The phone will also launch in the base 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant priced at either ₹38,990(~$523) or ₹39,990(~$537).

Adding to this leak, a leaker named Rock Leaks has posted a screenshot of a youtube video from an Indian tech channel that has already unboxed the phone ahead of its launch. It showcases the Indian retail unit’s MRP to be ₹46,990 (~$631). This is the same price that the tipster suggested.

With these leaks, we are surely nearing the unveiling of the smartphone series. Going by a previous Flipkart listing, the OPPO Reno6 series will land on July 14 in India.

Oppo Reno6 series Specifications

The Oppo Reno6 series will be a 5G smartphone series comprising of two smartphones – Reno6 and Reno6 Pro. Both phones are already available in China and the Indian models won’t differ much.

The Oppo Reno6 is expected to feature a 6.4-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate. On the other hand, the Reno6 Pro will sport a slightly larger 6.55-inch panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. The phones will be built out of an aluminum alloy frame offering rigidity.

Under the hood, the Reno6 will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC, whereas, the Reno6 Pro will draw power from the Dimensity 1200 SoC. Both phones will come with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage variants.

As for the optics, the phones are expected to boast a 32MP front camera for selfies. The Reno6 will be featuring triple rear cameras with 64MP primary, an 8MP secondary, and a 2MP macro sensor. The Reno6 Pro will feature the same setup with an additional 2MP depth sensor.

Design

Despite it is the only one with a fat display, the OPPO Reno6 is a very interesting phone in terms of form factor. Indeed, it comes with flat borders just like the iPhone 12 series, and it is the only Android phone released in 2021 from a mainstream manufacturer with this kind of design. On the other hand, with the OPPO Reno6 Pro, you get a very elegant design including a curved edge-to-edge screen and a very thin profile (the thickness is just 7.6 mm), as well as a lightweight body. The OPPO Reno6 Pro+ is a heavier Reno6 Pro with a thicker body.

Display

The OPPO Reno6 Pro and the Reno6 Pro+ are equipped with better displays than the vanilla Reno6. They have a diagonal of 6.55 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ certification. But the OPPO Reno6 is not disappointing: it still comes with an AMOLED Full HD+ display and a 90 Hz refresh rate, but the image quality and the brightness are inferior. Specs & Software

The OPPO Reno6 is just a midrange phone as it is powered by the Dimensity 900 chipset by MediaTek. With OPPO Reno6 Pro and Reno6 Pro+, you can get flagship-class performance thanks to the Dimensity 1200 and the Snapdragon 870 mobile platform paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. The Snapdragon 870 is actually better than Dimensity 1200, so Reno6 Pro+ wins the hardware comparisons. The phones are based on Android 11 and customized by the new ColorOS 11.3.

Camera

OPPO Reno6 and Reno6 Pro are midrange-class camera phones. They both feature a 64 MP main camera and an 8 MP ultrawide camera, but the Reno6 Pro+ has a pair of 2 MP sensors, while the vanilla Reno6 has just a single 2 MP. The difference is just marginal between these phones, but it becomes huge with the OPPO Reno6 Pro+. This device is a top-camera phone with its 50 MP main camera equipped with OIS, a 13 MP telephoto sensor with optical zoom, a 16 MP ultrawide camera, and a 2 MP macro lens.

Battery

The OPPO Reno6 has a smaller 4300 mAh battery, while the Reno6 Pro and the Reno6 Pro+ both come with a 4500 mAh unit which can provide a longer battery life. Note that the Reno6 Pro has a chipset built with a better 6 nm production process, which can allow a lower energy consumption. The phones all feature 65W fast charging and they all lack wireless charging.

Price

The OPPO Reno6 series is only available in China for now. The vanilla Reno6 has a €360 starting price in the country, the Reno6 Pro costs €450 in its base variant, and the Reno6 Pro+ starts from €520. The OPPO Reno6 brings a fresh and original design to the market, but it is a mid-range phone and it cannot compete with the other two variants if we exclude the price. It comes with an inferior chipset, display, cameras, and battery. Between OPPO Reno6 Pro and Reno6 Pro+, there are fewer differences: the camera department is the only significant one, given that the Reno6 Pro is a mid-range camera phone and the Reno6 Pro+ has flagship cameras.

OPPO is working on several smartphones including OPPO F, and A series apart from the reno series of devices. Also, we are already talking about the reno6 series launching in China. And add to this, a new TENAA listing reveals key specs and images of the OPPO PEXM00.

The OPPO smartphone appearing on China’s TENAA with model number PEXM00 is a 5G mobile device. Recently, OPPO has transitioned itself into launching both 5G and 4G versions of devices according to the market needs and one such example is the recent OPPO A74, OPPO A54 devices.

OPPO’s reno series of devices recently have had the PE_M00, PD__M00 model numbers while the F and A series have been spotted with CPHxx. Even this hasn’t been constant as OPPO A55, A93 5G has PEMM00 and PEMM00 respectively. Hence, we aren’t sure about the name of the device in question just yet.

Talking about the specs, the listing shows that the device measures 159.1×73.4×7.9mm. The images show that the device has a Triple-camera setup like the F and A series devices but there is a yellow line separating the sensors and the LED flash. The blue color variant listed has a power button on the right, volume buttons to the left.

Further, the listing also shows that the device has a 6.43-inch display on the front. The device also has a dual-cell battery with 2100mAh as each cell’s capacity.

In addition to the TENAA images vaguely showing the camera specs, the camerafv5’s database suggests that the OPPO PEXM00 could have a 64MP main camera and a 32MP selfie shooter. Other specs include a SA/NSA 5G and Android 11 OS.

OPPO brought the Reno5 series to China just three months back. The company has launched multiple handsets inside the series including the flagship Reno5 Pro+ 5G. However, none of the devices support wireless charging. That is about to change soon as Reno6 is expected to bring support for 30W wireless charging.

Leaker Digital Chat Station has said that three new OPPO Reno6 series of smartphones are in the final stages of testing. He is expecting an early launch this year, and considering we are getting the info just three months after the Dec’2020 launch, we can expect towards the end of H1 or the beginning of H2 2021.

Anyway, he hasn’t spoken anything about the naming scheme of the devices but going by the past record, we can expect it to be Reno6, Reno6 Pro, and Reno6 Pro+. These are just our guesses so let’s wait for the official word. Anyway, he also says that OPPO will finally bring the Wireless charging tech to the mid-high segment of devices.

If this turns out to be true, the affordable Reno series of smartphones will support wireless charging. Specifically, he says that the devices will support up to 65W wired fast charging(should be SuperVOOC 3.0) and 30W wireless charging.

OPPO recently unveiled the Find X3 series of devices and the devices support up to 30W AirVOOC Flash Charge charging protocol. This company has launched a 45W AirVOOC charger already and it might just aid OPPO in selling the Reno6 series in the future even if the overall price jumps up a bit.

It’s too early to comment on the specs of the Reno6 series of devices but looking at the predecessors, we think that OPPO might continue the Qualcomm + MediaTek combo. That said, the top-of-the-line flagship is very likely to feature the next-gen flagship processor of Qualcomm just like the Reno5 Pro+ 5G.
