<p>Leaker Digital Chat Station has posted the images of what he claims to be the Engineering Test version of the upcoming <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo-smart-tag">OPPO Smart Tag</a>. The device appears in White color and another image shows the device has &#8216;Ultra Wide Band&#8217; and &#8216;<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OPPO">OPPO</a>&#8216; written on it.</p>
<p>This further strengthens the reports of OPPO readying an object tracker to spoil the party of <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple">Apple</a> and <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a>. What is more surprising is OPPO&#8217;s solution seems to be more environment-friendly than the rivals. This is because we see a Type-C port at the bottom.</p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t present on either the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/airtag">AirTag</a> or the Samsung <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-smarttag">Galaxy SmartTag</a> and <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-smarttag-plus">SmartTag+</a>. Anyway, this suggests that OPPO may include a rechargeable battery inside its Smart Tag. To compare, the rivals promise a 1-year battery life on their respective object trackers but you cannot recharge them.</p>

<p>Although Apple has given the option of replacing the CR2032 battery on the AirTags, a rechargeable one might be a better and convenient option. Then again, we will have to wait and see if OPPO&#8217;s object tracker will have any kind of IP rating to protect it from getting damaged.</p>
<p>Talking about the features, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/UWB">UWB</a> etched on the image indicates that the Smart Tag will help users accurately track the location of tags, and help you with directions better than the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/bluetooth">Bluetooth</a>-only version. That said, we don&#8217;t see any provision for the lanyard hole just as we saw on the Galaxy SmartTag.</p>
<p>OPPO is holding a launch event on May 6 in China where it is expected to bring new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/04/22/oppo-entry-level-smart-tv-launch-6-may/">Smart TV</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/04/21/oppo-k9-5g-renders-emerge-ahead-of-may-6-launch/">OPPO K9</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/04/21/oppo-enco-air-new-oppo-band-china-launch-date/">OPPO Enco Air, and a new OPPO Band</a>. There are chances that the Smart Tag might debut on the same day but this is our guess so take it with a pinch of salt till we get official info on the same.</p>

Now, the design of this smart tag has been revealed in patent images prior to its official launch.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-375236 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Screenshot-245.png?x44794" alt="Oppo" width="711" height="466" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Screenshot-245.png 711w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Screenshot-245-300x197.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Screenshot-245-696x456.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Screenshot-245-641x420.png 641w" sizes="(max-width: 711px) 100vw, 711px" /></p>
<p>The Smart Tag from the Chinese tech giant will be functionally similar to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-smarttag/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy SmartTag</a> from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Samsung</a>, which was announced along with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s21/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy S21</a> series. So, it was also assumed at the time that we might see Oppo&#8217;s iteration of this device being launched alongside the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/find-x3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Find X3</a> series. Now, the Smart Tag from the company has been spotted in a recent patent filing with China&#8217;s CNIPA, as per a <a href="https://www.91mobiles.com/hub/oppo-smart-tag-design-patent-images/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>91Mobiles</em> </a>report. The patent carries a number of images that are a bit different from the ones spotted earlier this year.</p>
<p>The Oppo Smart Tag appears to be flatter than and a bit larger than before. It features a rectangular design with rounded edges. In the middle, a circular design with the smartphone maker&#8217;s branding can be observed. Notably, the patent does not reveal any seam or hole that will allow one to attach the device to a personal item. For those unaware, smart tags are essentially small Bluetooth enabled devices that help locate certain items and objects, which they are attached to.</p>

<p>In other words, it helps find items like keys or a bag if they are lost but still connected to your smartphone. Unfortunately, it is unclear if this is the final design the company would opt for. So, we will have to wait for the official announcement, which will arrive when the Find X3 series launches on the 11th of March 2021. So stay tuned.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-367736 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-smart-tag-bluetooth-tracker-1024x676.jpg?x44794" alt="Oppo" width="1024" height="676" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-smart-tag-bluetooth-tracker-1024x676.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-smart-tag-bluetooth-tracker-1024x676-300x198.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-smart-tag-bluetooth-tracker-1024x676-768x507.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-smart-tag-bluetooth-tracker-1024x676-696x459.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-smart-tag-bluetooth-tracker-1024x676-636x420.jpg 636w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/smartphones/oppo-smart-tag-bluetooth-tracker/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>LetsGoDigital</em> </a>report, the new Bluetooth smart tag is another product in the company&#8217;s growing peripheral and IoT portfolio. Back in May 2020, the Chinee tech giant had filed a design patent in China for a &#8220;Bluetooth smart tag locator&#8217;. The documentation for this was published earlier today (26th Jan 2021) along with a series of images of the device. Looking at these images, the Oppo smart tag is a rectangular shaped device with rounded corners.</p>
<p>This design also resembles the company&#8217;s Oppo Watch case. On the top of the smart tag, the brand&#8217;s logo can be observed that is etched in the middle. Furthermore, the body of the tracker is shown to be in a black color scheme, which is also patented. On one of the corners, the Oppo Bluetooth smart tag also has a hole, which is likely to have a key ring pass through it. Samsung&#8217;s Galaxy SmartTag featured a 4x4cm size, so we can expect Oppo&#8217;s counterpart to also feature&#8217;s a similar size and form factor.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-367737 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-find-x3-1024x676.jpg?x44794" alt="Oppo" width="1024" height="676" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-find-x3-1024x676.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-find-x3-1024x676-300x198.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-find-x3-1024x676-768x507.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-find-x3-1024x676-696x459.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/oppo-find-x3-1024x676-636x420.jpg 636w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>The patented designs do not reveal any buttons in any of the images, although, Samsung&#8217;s tracer did feature one button for various functions. At the moment, it is unknown when the company aims at launching this smart tag, but we can assume it will be unveiled along with the company&#8217;s flagship handset, the Oppo Find X3 series. The series is expected to launch later this year, and it is possible that the Bluetooth smart tag will debut alongside it.</p>
