The company said that it combined the best in hardware innovation with its proprietary AI algorithms for the new camera tech, which aims to offer a full screen experience in upcoming devices.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-403978 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-Rendering.png?x96852" alt="Oppo" width="3548" height="2026" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-Rendering.png 3548w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-Rendering-300x171.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-Rendering-768x439.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-Rendering-1024x585.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-Rendering-696x397.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-Rendering-1068x610.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-Rendering-736x420.png 736w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-Rendering-1920x1096.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 3548px) 100vw, 3548px" /></p>
<p>The Chinese smartphone maker stated that its under screen camera solution would be able to maintain the integrity and consistency of the entire screen, even when the camera is in use or in standby. Through this, it would be capable of a balance between consistent screen and camera image quality, or as the brand put it &#8220;an under screen camera solution with no compromises. Notably, Oppo also saw various breakthroughs during the development of the new camera technology.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-403975 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-E-book-Reading.jpg?x96852" alt="Oppo" width="4123" height="2754" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-E-book-Reading.jpg 4123w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-E-book-Reading-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-E-book-Reading-768x513.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-E-book-Reading-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-E-book-Reading-696x465.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-E-book-Reading-1068x713.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-E-book-Reading-629x420.jpg 629w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-E-book-Reading-1920x1282.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 4123px) 100vw, 4123px" /></p>
<p>This includes inconsistent display quality in the screen area right above the under display sensor and poor image quality due to the obstruction of the camera by the display panel. By tackling these known issues of the camera tech, the company will be able to offer an upgraded under screen camera solution that promises to bring the full screen experience on smartphones to the next level. The company showcased the under screen camera technology in a new prototype device.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-403977 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-pixel-rendering.png?x96852" alt="Oppo" width="1753" height="1005" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-pixel-rendering.png 1753w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-pixel-rendering-300x172.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-pixel-rendering-768x440.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-pixel-rendering-1024x587.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-pixel-rendering-696x399.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-pixel-rendering-1068x612.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/OPPO-USC-pixel-rendering-733x420.png 733w" sizes="(max-width: 1753px) 100vw, 1753px" /></p>
<p>This device arrived with several new innovations in structure design and AI algorithms. Notable breakthroughs include innovative pixel geometry, with the new solution shrinking the size of each pixel without decreasing the number of pixels to ensure 400ppi density even in the camera region. Furthermore, Oppo replaced the traditional screen wiring with an innovative transparent wiring material. This newer material uses a manufacturing process that reduces its wiring width by 50 percent, allowing for finer display quality. Along with these innovations, it also arrives with improved control of screen accuracy, color, and brightness along with improved reliability and lifespan.</p>

OEMs have adopted various measures to trim down the bezels around the display screen in order to give an immersive viewing experience and improve aesthetics.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/huawei-under-screen-camera.png?x96852"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-324444" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/huawei-under-screen-camera.png?x96852" alt="" width="600" height="447" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/huawei-under-screen-camera.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/huawei-under-screen-camera-300x224.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/huawei-under-screen-camera-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/huawei-under-screen-camera-265x198.png 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/huawei-under-screen-camera-485x360.png 485w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/huawei-under-screen-camera-564x420.png 564w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>One component that has made maintaining the symmetry while trimming the bezels is the front camera. OEMs have used display notch, pop-up selfie camera design and lately, punch-hole design-style to ensure the camera takes less space. But one technology which is believed to be the perfect solution is the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/under-screen">under-screen</a> camera technology.</p>
<p>A number of OEMs have been reported to be working on such technology. Xiaomi was reported to have <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/07/xiaomi-patents-a-phone-with-waterfall-display-and-under-screen-camera/">patented a smartphone with an under-screen camera</a>. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/10/oppo-rd-team-details-the-development-of-under-screen-camera-technology/">OPPO</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/03/samsung-confirmed-perfect-full-screen-development/">Samsung</a> have also reportedly got the technology under development. A Chinese tipster has now hinted that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> may beat all other brands to become the first to release a smartphone using the under-screen technology.</p>
<p>Under-screen display technology involves the use of a transparent glass around the camera area which has the characteristics of low reflection and high light transmission. When not taking pictures, the screen content can be displayed normally, and when taking pictures, it becomes transparent glass, so that the light enters to realize the self-timer. The under-screen camera has to work with other hardware flawlessly and image algorithms are needed to perfect the camera experience.</p>
<p>Previous reports tipped the under-screen technology to be mass-produced in the second half of this year. This is just in time for the Mate 40 series release. The technology might find its way first on Huawei&#8217;s upcoming Mate 40 series which should drop around October.</p>
