Oukitel has announced its brand new rugged smartphone, the Oukitel WP8 Pro, targeted at outdoor enthusiasts and adventure junkies. The phone’s rugged body ensures that it can withstand the harshest of environments and comes with IP69K certification.

But the WP8 Pro is all about its rugged body. The phone boasts pretty decent smartphone features like a 6.5-inch display, 5000mAh battery, an octa-core MediaTek Helio A25 processor, and even NFC.

One of the highlights of the new OUKITEL WP8 Pro is its IP69K rating. This makes it dust and heat resistant. IP69K is the highest IP certification for a smartphone and is only given after the phone has to go through dust, close-range high pressure, high-temperature spray downs. It is also water-resistant up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

The phone has 4GB of RAM onboard with 64GB of storage. There’s a basic 16MP triple camera setup at the back and the large 5000mAh battery can power these features for nearly two days on a single charge. Other features include a Side-Mounted Fingerprint Sensor, Barometer, Proximity Sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, and Electronic Compass.

Like some other rugged smartphones, the Oukitel WP8 Pro also features a special customizable button that can be programmed for a number of specific applications like underwater camera mode, emergency calls, or other short cuts. You can further customize it for single, double, and long-press functions.

A couple of renders have appeared bringing forth the smartphone’s design aspects. We can see a triple rear camera circular module that sits on the rear side of the smartphone. The rubber and metal material gives it an overall solid design. The toughened corners of the device provides an extra layer of protection which reduces the impact during any usual fall.

Moreover, the fingerprint sensors are present on the right side of the device providing easy accessibility. Overall, the holistic design gives it a durable and sporty look. It is a bit slimmer than normal rugged smartphones and even feels lighter.
