We all know Fortnite is a phenomenon worldwide, and it’s been that way for quite a while now. However, Fortnite fans hoping to dive into the new Greek mythology-themed Chapter 5: Season 2 are left waiting after the update’s launch hit a snag.

The game servers failed to come back online after maintenance

Epic Games typically takes the servers offline for maintenance at 3 AM ET to prepare for major updates. However, this time, Fortnite failed to return online as scheduled. Players were initially told the maintenance would take “a few hours longer than usual.”

The most recent update from Fortnite Status arrived around 4 PM ET, informing players they could pre-download the update “in approximately five hours.” Unfortunately, there’s no official word on when everyone will be able to log in and play the new season.

Frustrated players might want to hold off on jumping into Helldivers 2, as that game has also been experiencing server issues according to DownDetector reports. Big games like Fortnite are tricky to manage since their player base is nothing short of ‘huge’, and with a player base that big, the number of dissatisfied players goes up as well. Let’s hope Epic games can restore the game back to normal running status so players can get to enjoy the new chapter of the game.

Instagram was Down for Hundreds of Thousands of Users Worldwide

In a surprising turn of events on Sunday evening, Instagram, the popular photo-sharing platform, experienced a brief but impactful outage, leaving millions of users unable to access their feeds. Reports started pouring in just minutes after 6 PM ET, with over 175,000 users flagging the issue at its peak. However, the problem was swiftly addressed, and by 7:30 PM ET, Instagram was up and running again.

The downtime lasted for merely 1 hour as the glitch was fixed soon

The technical glitch, which caused the app’s feed to freeze and displayed error messages preventing refreshes, caused a momentary panic among users who rely on the platform for their daily dose of visual inspiration. The website, too, showed a blank page, adding to the frustration.

Dave Arnold, spokesperson for Meta, Instagram’s parent company, issued an apology after the incident, stating, “Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we’re sorry for any disruption this has caused.”

Given the timing of the outage, it quickly made headlines in Australia, becoming a topic of discussion on Monday morning news reports. Fortunately, other services under the Meta umbrella, such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Horizon Worlds, remained unaffected, alleviating concerns about a broader system failure.

Curiously, Instagram’s help page and its accounts on other platforms like Facebook and Twitter remained silent about the incident, failing to provide timely updates to concerned users. Speculation about a potential Instagram-owned service on Twitter proved fruitless, as no such service exists currently. However, we might have something by as soon as next month, as the Twitter alternative codenamed P92 made headlines recently.

While the outage was a temporary setback, it serves as a reminder of our dependency on digital platforms for social interaction and entertainment. Instagram users worldwide can now breathe a sigh of relief as their beloved app is back online, ready to show them the creative content they cherish.

Google Search and other services saw outage across the globe

Another day, another outage for a major tech based company. Google saw a massive outage across the globe, with a number of its services going down like the Google Search service.

This outage had began on Monday night (8th August 2022), with a DownDetector finding a surge in number of complaints it received about the Google Search in the US. People using the Search service saw long leading times, empty results, and much more. Out of all the complaints raised, the vast majority of the issues were based on the Search service, while some were also facing issues on some of its other services as well. Furthermore, many people facing this issue took to Twitter to share their experiences with the #GoogleDown and #GoogleOutage tags.

Notably, certain people using the Search service received the “500” error, which basically implies a server problem. Thus, its other services were also affected, including YouTube, Photos, Maps, Drive, Duo, and more. Although, not every region saw these issues. As of right now, it appears that the Search Engine giant is still currently facing some problems, with some users still facing issues in their services sharing their experiences on Twitter. Apple App Store and other services face outage for two days straight

Apple has just recently been hit with an outage that has affected a number of its popular services. This includes the likes of its Music, App Store, and even Podcasts, which stopped working for two days straight.

According to a Reuters report, the Cupertino based giant’s official system status page has confirmed that the services have seen resumed operations as of Tuesday (22nd March 2022). Although, this followed after two days of outage. Before this, the Mac App Store, users of Apple Card, Apple Books, iCloud Web Apps, and even the Weather app stopped working yesterday. Apart from these apps, another 11 apps from the iPhone maker’s services stop working on Monday (21st March 2022), including Arcade and Maps as well.

As of right now, it is still unclear as to what exactly caused the outage on the two days. However, a separate report had stated that the company had told its staff that the outage on Monday had been caused by a domain name system or DNS, which is basically an address book of the internet which enables computers to match website addresses with the correct server. At the moment, the brand has also yet to respond to any comments regarding the outage in Tuesday.

Apple suppliers struggle to keep production on schedule amid power outages in China

Apple suppliers in China are currently struggling to keep the production on schedule amid widespread power outages in the region. The suppliers are scrambling to keep production on track prior to the arriving holiday season.

According to a NikkeiAsia report, the widespread outages of power in China are the latest reasons that have caused tech giants from shifting their production away from the Asian country. As of right now, the suppliers of the Cupertino based giant, Amazon, and more are struggling to keep production on track. A source talked to Nikkei and revealed that power outages has been hitting on irregular intervals since mid September.

But now, these suppliers have been receiving notices every week notifying them regarding, which days in the following week will face a power cut. Reportedly, Apple suppliers have warned that the power cuts are threatening the supply chain, but these disruptions might last till the end of this year or possibly even longer. Furthermore, another issue is that the suppliers do not know which firms will receive power and which won’t.

The report added that another Apple supplier stated that local governments are deciding where to provide electricity based in part on the value of the products being manufactured. The news arrives as the company seeks to boost initial production of its iPhone 13 series to 90 million units through the end of this year. This marks an increase of up to 20 percent over the 75 million units of the iPhone 12 series that launched back in 2020.

Telegram gained more than 70 million new users during Facebook outage

Telegram, an application for instant messaging, has said that the platform gained more than 70 million new users during the Facebook outage on Monday as people across the world were left without key messaging services for about six hours.

A couple of days ago, Facebook suffered an outage on its network for around six hours during which all of its services, including Messenger, social media platform Instagram and messaging service WhatsApp, were inaccessible for users globally.

Telegram founder Pavel Durov said that “the daily growth rate of Telegram exceeded the norm by an order of magnitude, and we welcomed over 70 million refugees from other platforms in one day.”

He also added that some of the users of the platform in the United States may have experienced slower speeds as millions rushed to sign up at the same time, but that the service worked as usual for the majority of users.

Telegram recently topped one billion downloads and earlier this year, the platform had over 500 million monthly active users.

It’s not just Telegram that benefited from Facebook’s problem. Signal, which is a competitor of WhatsApp and Telegram, also said that millions of new users joined the platform for secure messaging.

Also, this isn’t the first time Telegram and Signal gained millions of new users at the expense of Facebook. Recently, when WhatsApp updated its privacy policy and struggled to explain it properly, both platforms added millions of new users.
