<p>Many users are reporting burns from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple</a>&#8216;s latest iPhone 15 Pro, suggesting a possible severe overheating problem. Before its official release, some reviewers had already raised concerns <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/24/iphone-15-pro-overheating-due-to-a17-pro-chip/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">about the phone&#8217;s A17 Pro chip heating up too much</a>.</p>

<h2>Too Hot to Handle? iPhone 15 Pro Users Share Overheating Issues </h2>

<p>Many people on social media are sharing pictures of burns on their thighs and fingers, saying they happened because their iPhone 15 overheated. They believe these incidents are real and stress the importance of experiencing such issues to truly understand them.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="421" height="733" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/iPhone-15-overheating-burn-e1696362206818.jpg?x10805" alt="iPhone 15 overheating burn" class="wp-image-571884" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/iPhone-15-overheating-burn-e1696362206818.jpg 421w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/iPhone-15-overheating-burn-e1696362206818-172x300.jpg 172w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/iPhone-15-overheating-burn-e1696362206818-241x420.jpg 241w" sizes="(max-width: 421px) 100vw, 421px" /></figure></div>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/01/apple-acknowledges-overheating-issues-on-iphone-15-pro-models/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple has recognized the overheating concern</a>. They stated that the iPhone 15 Pro might get hotter than usual, especially during the first days of use. This suggests that the initial setup or restoration of the device might push it to run at higher temperatures.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="586" height="684" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/iPhone-15-overheating-burn-1-e1696364240253.jpg?x10805" alt="iPhone-15-overheating-burn" class="wp-image-571885" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/iPhone-15-overheating-burn-1-e1696364240253.jpg 586w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/iPhone-15-overheating-burn-1-e1696364240253-257x300.jpg 257w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/iPhone-15-overheating-burn-1-e1696364240253-360x420.jpg 360w" sizes="(max-width: 586px) 100vw, 586px" /></figure></div>

<p>Some tech experts believe that Apple might have sacrificed efficient heat dissipation to make the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-15-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 15 Pro</a> thinner and lighter. This model has a smaller area to let out heat, which can lead to overheating. The new titanium frame used in its design could be another reason. This material transfers heat faster than the old stainless steel frame, possibly contributing to the problem.</p>

<p>In addition to the heating issue, some iPhone 15 Pro users have reported problems with the NFC chips, especially after <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/02/iphone-15-nfc-chip-breaks-bmw-wireless-charging-pad/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">charging their phones on BMW&#8217;s wireless pads</a>. This has affected functions like Apple Pay and digital car keys. Apple hasn&#8217;t fully addressed this yet, but users are advised to be careful when using BMW&#8217;s chargers for now.</p>

<p><strong>Update</strong>: Xiaomi has released an official statement on the incident, which reads as follows, <em><strong>&#8220;At Xiaomi India, customer safety is of utmost importance, and we take such matters extremely seriously. We stand with the family in this time of difficulty and hope to support them in any way possible. The matter is currently being investigated. We will work with the authorities to determine the actual cause of the incident and will support them in any required manner.&#8221;</strong></em></p>

<p><strong>Original story follows&#8230;</strong></p>

<p>An eight-year-old girl named Adithyashree lost her life when her mobile phone exploded in her hand. The incident happened at 10:30 pm (local time) on April 24 in Thiruvilwamala in Thrissur, Kerala, India. The device in question is said to be the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-5-pro/">Redmi Note 5 Pro</a>, which, according to forensic experts, was not charging at the time of the accident.</p>

<p>Instead, the phone was reportedly <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/?s=overheating">overheating</a>, leading to an explosion that proved fatal for the young girl. The forensic team has shared their preliminary findings with the local police and collected debris from the scene to conduct a more detailed examination. As per the police, Adithyashree sustained severe facial injuries as a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/?s=explode">result of an explosion</a>, which also led to the severing of her right-hand fingers and a broken palm.</p>

<h3><strong>Preliminary findings suggest phone overheating as cause of explosion</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smartphone-explosion--1024x576.jpg?x10805" alt="Smartphone explosion-" class="wp-image-532539" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smartphone-explosion--1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smartphone-explosion--300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smartphone-explosion--768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smartphone-explosion--696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smartphone-explosion--1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smartphone-explosion--747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Smartphone-explosion-.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Smartphone explosion claims life of eight-year-old in India</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>According to Ashok Kumar, the father of the deceased child, his daughter, and his grandmother were at home when the incident occurred. The grandmother reportedly told the police that the child had been playing a game on her mobile phone while lying under a blanket. She had gone to the kitchen to get food, and, upon her return, heard a loud explosion before discovering her granddaughter lying in a pool of blood. However, it is also being said that the explosion may have happened while watching videos on her phone for a long time.</p>

<p>The young girl was a class third student at Christ New Life School in Thiruvilwamala. Her death has shocked and saddened the local community. Ashok Kumar, who himself is a member of the Block Panchayat, has asked for a thorough <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/?s=investigation">investigation </a>into the incident.</p>

<p>The local police are said to be actively investigating the case and working to determine the cause of the mobile phone&#8217;s malfunction. The collection of debris and detailed forensic examination of the device will likely provide valuable insights into the events that led to the tragic loss of a young life in Thiruvilwamala. At present, there is no official statement from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/xiaomi/">Xiaomi</a>.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-489387 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/apple-watch-fire-1.webp?x10805" alt="" width="1024" height="512" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/apple-watch-fire-1.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/apple-watch-fire-1-300x150.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/apple-watch-fire-1-768x384.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/apple-watch-fire-1-696x348.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/apple-watch-fire-1-840x420.webp 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>The Cupertino based giant&#8217;s smartwatch arrives with a number of sensors that help detects irregular heartbeats, falls, and much more. However, one overheating Apple Watch sent its user to the hospital after it blew up. The owner of the wearable device reached out to <a href="https://9to5mac.com/2022/10/05/apple-watch-blows-up/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>9To5Mac</em></a> about this incident. The person stated that he was wearing his Apple Watch like any other day when he noticed that the wearable started getting hotter than usual. After this, he noticed that the back of the device had even cracked and watchOS even started displaying a warning about shutting down due to high temperature.</p>
<p>This incident didn&#8217;t occur out in the sun or under intense heat, with the user sitting in his home. The user then contacted Apple Support following this and explained the situation. Following this, the customer care executive escalated the issue to their manager who opened a case for investigation. However, there has since been no solution for advice offered by the brand since apart from telling them to not touch the device. Unfortunately, the incident didn&#8217;t end there as the device got even hotter to the touch the next morning, with the device&#8217;s glass also cracking because of the excess heat.</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" title="Apple Watch Series 7 blows up" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8-RkkXEEqTY?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>When the user decided to take pictures of his Apple Watch, it started making &#8220;crackling sounds&#8221; and exploded in his hands just as he was about to throw it away. The smartwatch has left burn marks on the user&#8217;s couch while also sending him to the emergency room because of lead poisoning concerns. But thankfully, the device does not house enough lead to be dangerous to a human being. Since this incident, Apple has made his case the top priority, and even arranged for a pick up for further testing. The company also sent him a document asking him to sign it to not share this story, but the user declined and reached out to the publication.</p>

The phone comes as a successor to the Pixel 4a launched last year with an upgraded specs sheet but a bit higher pricing than its processor.</p>
<p>The device is decently powerful, packing in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> Snapdragon 765G SoC, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. Even with such powerful specifications, the phone isn&#8217;t able to handle 4K video recording.</p>
<p>As <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamJMatlock/status/1428076454861058051">per the latest reports</a>, when recording 4K videos at 60 frames per second, the Google Pixel 5a smartphone gets overheated. While shooting, the phone asks users to close the camera until temperatures return to a more reasonable level.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_407468" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-407468" style="width: 2048px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-407468 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Pixel-5a-Video-4k60fps-Warning.jpeg?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 5a 4K 60fps Recording Overheating" width="2048" height="1536" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Pixel-5a-Video-4k60fps-Warning.jpeg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Pixel-5a-Video-4k60fps-Warning-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Pixel-5a-Video-4k60fps-Warning-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Pixel-5a-Video-4k60fps-Warning-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Pixel-5a-Video-4k60fps-Warning-80x60.jpeg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Pixel-5a-Video-4k60fps-Warning-265x198.jpeg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Pixel-5a-Video-4k60fps-Warning-696x522.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Pixel-5a-Video-4k60fps-Warning-1068x801.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Pixel-5a-Video-4k60fps-Warning-560x420.jpeg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Pixel-5a-Video-4k60fps-Warning-1920x1440.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-407468" class="wp-caption-text">Image Credit: @AdamJMatlock</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>In a tweet, reviewer <em>TechOdyssey</em> complained that his Pixel 5a took just a few minutes to overheat while recording video at the highest possible settings, before displaying this message on the screen: &#8220;Device is too hot. Close Camera until device cools off.&#8221;</p>
<p>He also adds that he is also facing the same issue with 4K fps30 and 1080P 30fps. Another Twitter user with handle <a class="external" href="https://twitter.com/LadyRedsTekRvw/status/1428157182722379782" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">@LadyRedsTekRvw</a> said that their Pixel 5a did the same thing after about 2 minutes of recording at 4K 60fps.</p>
<p>Apparently, Pixel 5a isn&#8217;t the only recent Google smartphone to face this issue and some users are pointing out that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-5/">Pixel 5</a> is also having the same issue, as <a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/2021/08/19/looks-like-the-pixel-5a-gets-too-toasty-while-recording-video/">confirmed by <em>Android Police</em></a>. So far, Google has not acknowledged the issue and it remains to be seen if and when the company plans to fix this.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> Pixel 5a features a 6.34-inch OLED screen with FHD+ resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. It comes with a dual-camera setup on the back consisting of a 12.2-megapixel main shooter and a 16-megapixel ultrawide rear camera. For selfies, there is an 8-megapixel front camera tucked under a punch-hole cutout.</p>
<p>The smartphone runs the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-11">Android 11</a> operating system and is guaranteed three years of OS upgrades and security patch support. It is powered by a 4,680mAh battery and ships with an 18W charger in the box. It is likely to be the last Google smartphone to come with a power adaptor in the retail box for the Pixel smartphones.</p>

The company is making such a large recall due to an apparent overheating issue that requires a replacement in their power boards to fix.</p>
<p>According to official notes from the company, 18 OLED TV models are affected by this issue, which were sold between February 2016 and September 2019. The components that are affected are within the power boards and are used to minimize current noises. The company stated that a few of the components used have shown performance drop over a period of time, which caused the current increase that could potentially lead to overheating.</p>

With this chip inside, the phone manages to score more than 70K easily, which is why many of us are interested to see how well the Pro 5 flagship manages to dissipate heat.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/meizu-pro5-unboxing-06.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-60288" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/meizu-pro5-unboxing-06.jpg?x10805" alt="meizu-pro5-unboxing-06" width="600" height="399" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Snapdragon 810 has a very bad reputation of overheating, despite being a powerful flagship chipset. On the other hand, the 14nm based Exynos 7420 seems to tackle the problem of overheating quite well. So, some folks over at China decided to perform a heating test on the new Meizu Pro 5 under certain circumstances to see how whether it managed to keep the heat levels under control.</p>
<p><strong>TEST I</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/wpid-1443602675577.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone" style="width: 469px; max-width: 920px;" title="wpid-1443602675577.jpg" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/wpid-1443602675577.jpg?x10805&amp;w=920" alt="image" width="580" height="175" /></a></p>
<p>In the first test, the Meizu Pro 5 was made to run the <strong>AnTuTu benchmark test</strong> for about 5 minutes. The test takes care of a number of areas like processing power, GPU etc, which should technically heat up the device. It&#8217;s like playing a high-end game for about 5 minutes on the device. After the first five minutes of the test, wherein the phone managed to score about 76K points, the maximum temperature at the front was<span style="color: #ff0000;"> <strong>39.5</strong> </span><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">degree</span> </strong>Celsius. At the back, the maximum temperature was just <span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>37.3 degrees</strong> </span>Celsius with an average of about <span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>35.8 degrees</strong></span>. The phone managed to keep the temperature under 40 degrees which is quite impressive. Not bad for a flagship with such raw power underneath!</p>
<p><strong>TEST II</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/wpid-1443602675899.jpg?x10805"><img class="alignnone " style="width: 477px; max-width: 580px;" title="wpid-1443602675899.jpg" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/wpid-1443602675899.jpg?x10805&amp;w=580" alt="image" height="178" /></a></p>
<p>In the second test, the phone was made to run a <strong>full HD 1080p video for 10 long minutes</strong>. After the video playback, the temperatures of both the back and the front were measured. The temperature up front was just <strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">34.6 degrees</span></strong> with the average being <span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>32.4 degrees</strong></span>. As for the back of the device, the maximum temperature was just <strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">34.2 degrees</span></strong> with the average being <strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">33.5 degrees.</span></strong></p>
<p>Both the tests show that Meizu has done a great job controlling heat on its Pro 5 flagship. This does prove that high-end performance is possible without overheating the device to unacceptable levels.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
