<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Recently, OnePlus </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/01/22/oneplus-9-series-january-update-lands-with-several-features-optimizations/"><span style="font-weight: 400">rolled out </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">a new software update for the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. The update arrived as OxyegnOS 12 C.44 with a long changelog.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">According to </span><a href="https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-9-pro-gcam-auxiliary-access-restored/"><i><span style="font-weight: 400">XDA Developers</span></i></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, the latest system update for the handsets allows GCam ports to access auxiliary cameras, at least on the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-9-pro/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OnePlus 9 Pro</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. But for some reason, OnePlus hasn’t mentioned the fix in the changelog.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Therefore, if you happen to own either of the two </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-9/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OnePlus 9</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> models and are on the latest software build, then do try any GCam port to check whether you can access other camera sensors apart from the primary rear module and selfie shooter.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Hopefully, OnePlus irons out other issues with </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OxygenOS-12/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OxygenOS 12</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> before rolling it out to the remaining devices. So far, only the last year’s primary flagships are on the new version of the software. The </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Android-12/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Android 12</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> rollout is probably the slowest software delivery by OnePlus in a long time.</span></p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-379448" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/OnePlus-9-Pro.png?x10805" alt="OnePlus 9 Pro" width="877" height="497" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/OnePlus-9-Pro.png 877w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/OnePlus-9-Pro-300x170.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/OnePlus-9-Pro-768x435.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/OnePlus-9-Pro-696x394.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/OnePlus-9-Pro-741x420.png 741w" sizes="(max-width: 877px) 100vw, 877px" /></p>
<p>But the problems with the OS weren&#8217;t only limited to bugs. As we <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/13/oxygenos-12-blocks-access-to-auxiliary-cameras-on-third-party-camera-apps/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">previously reported</a>, modded apps like Google Camera ports were being blocked from using the phone&#8217;s auxiliary cameras, i.e. the ultrawide and the telephoto camera. This is a deal-breaker for many people since GCam (modded) is known to considerably improve picture quality compared to the stock camera app on a lot of phones.</p>
<p>This issue has been present in OPPO&#8217;s ColorOS for a while now, leading people to believe that OnePlus devices will no longer be able to use modded camera apps. However, a new report has surfaced that reassures OnePlus users otherwise.</p>
<p>According to an <a href="https://www.xda-developers.com/oxygenos-12-aux-cam-unblock/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">XDA Developer</a>&#8216;s report, on Friday (December 17th, 2021), OnePlus took to its <a href="https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/new-oxygenos-12-update-for-the-oneplus-9-and-9-pro.1527688/?utm_source=cj&amp;utm_medium=affiliate&amp;utm_content=KC+Online+Media%2C+LLC&amp;cjevent=082ad75861b811ec83c56f260a180511&amp;cjdata=MXxOfDB8WXww" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">community forums</a> to announce that they have heard the feedback regarding the bugs and issues faced by its users in the recently rolled out OxygenOS 12 update and are working hard to fix them and release a patch soon. OnePlus additionally pointed out that the upcoming update will also fix the &#8220;temporary lack of access to the Ultra HD 48M / AUX camera on GCam.&#8221;</p>
<p>Since then, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/18/oneplus-9-pro-oxygenos-12-stable-re-release/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OxygenOS 12 has been re-released</a>, but the inaccessible auxiliary camera issue while using the GCam port still remains. However, since the company has specifically acknowledged the issue, we can expect a future update to arrive with the promised fixes.</p>

At around the same time, an interesting detail about the software also emerged. Let’s take a look at what it’s all about.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">According to the </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400">Google Camera Port Updates</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400"> Telegram </span><a href="https://t.me/googlecameraport/1962"><span style="font-weight: 400">channel</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> (via </span><a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/oxygenos-12-update-breaks-auxiliary-google-camera/#disqus_thread"><i><span style="font-weight: 400">Android Police</span></i></a><span style="font-weight: 400">), OxygenOS 12 blocks access to auxiliary cameras in third-party camera apps on </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-9/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OnePlus 9</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> and </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-9-pro/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OnePlus 9 Pro</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">For the unaware, auxiliary cameras on smartphones include additional sensors other than the primary wide-angle snapper. This means the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OnePlus/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OnePlus</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> 9 series users on </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OxygenOS/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OxygenOS</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> 12 cannot use the ultra-wide camera or the telephoto shooter in any other camera application other than the stock camera app.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The aforementioned limitation is part of </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ColorOS/"><span style="font-weight: 400">ColorOS</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. Since the OnePlus 9 series now basically runs OPPO’s operating system with the latest iteration of OxygenOS, it has inherited all the qualities.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Thus, Google Camera ports, which enable users to click Pixel-esque pictures can now only access the primary sensor on the current-gen OnePlus flagships. The older OnePlus devices slated to receive OxygenOS 12 should also be plagued with this limitation.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">In a nutshell, unless OPPO or OnePlus makes changes to the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/02/oneplus-integrate-oxygenos-coloros-three-android-updates-flagships/"><span style="font-weight: 400">unified codebase of ColorOS and OxygenOS</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, all devices running software builds based on this codebase will continue to have this limitation. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">As mentioned earlier, the issue applies to all third-party camera applications, not only Google Camera ports. </span></p>
