Pixel 8a was launched in May with the Google Tensor G3, which has 8 GB of RAM and is available in 128GB or 256GB of internal storage options. Furthermore, the smartphone has a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It houses a 4492 mAh battery with 18W fast wired charging and 7.5W wireless charging.

Last week, Google quietly announced the Pixel 8a. The phone arrives with significant upgrades compared to its predecessor, i.e. the Pixel 7a.

The search giant’s mid-range Pixel-A series offerings are slightly toned-down versions of the flagship non-Pro number series devices. The latest Pixel 8a borrows the same design language, processor, and notably the longer software support policy from the more premium Pixel 8. 

Pixel 8a vs Pixel 8: which one makes sense?

There are only slight differences between the Pixel 8a and Pixel 8. However, the main differentiating factor between the two phones is in terms of pricing.

Additionally, the Pixel 8 is also nearly six months old now (as of writing this article). It is often found at discounted prices during sales. This begs the question of whether it makes sense to purchase the latest mid-ranger Pixel or the premium offering. 

In this article, we have compared everything between the Pixel 8a and Pixel from specifications to pricing that should help you make the correct buying decision. 

Design and display

The Pixel 8a and Pixel 8 have identical designs with rounded corners and a horizontal bridge housing two cameras inside a pill-shaped cutout. The former is IP67 certified whereas the latter has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The Pixel 8’s front and back panels are shielded by Gorilla Glass Victus which is stronger than the Gorilla Glass 3 protecting the Pixel 8a’s front fascia. 

The display specs are similar on both the Pixel 8a and 8. Although the screen size on the two phones is 6.1 and 6.2 inches, both have an OLED panel with FHD+ resolution, 2,000 nits peak brightness, a 120Hz refresh rate, and support for HDR10. 

Camera

The camera is where the Pixel 8a is different compared to the Pixel 8. The latest mid-range has a 64MP 1/1.73″ main sensor with f/1.9 aperture, dual-pixel PDAF and OIS support. There is a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens. It is capable of recording up to 4K videos at 60fps. Up front also, the device features a 13MP selfie snapper. 

On the contrary, the Pixel 8’s dual camera setup comprises a 50MP 1/1.31 main with f/1.7 and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. There is a 10.5MP front-facing snapper. This camera hardware is comparatively better than the one on the Pixel 8a.

Anyways, both phones come with features like Best Take, Auto HDR, Ultra HDR, Audio Erase, and more. 

Hardware

The Pixel 8a and Pixel 8 are powered by Google’s in-house Tensor G3 processor. Both pack 8GB RAM and are offered in 128GB and 256GB storage options. The Pixel 8a is backed by a 4,492mAh battery with support for 18W wired and 7.5W wireless charging. On the other hand, the Pixel 8 runs on a larger 4,575mAh cell with support for faster 27W wired and 18W wireless charging. 

Software-wise, both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a are eligible for seven years of OS updates and security patches. 

Pricing and availability 

The Pixel 8a carries a price tag of $499 / EUR 549 / Rs 52,999 and $559 / EUR 609 / Rs 59,999 for the 128GB and 256GB variants respectively. Meanwhile, the same configurations of the Pixel 8 retail at $438 / EUR 599 / Rs 75,999 and $694 / EUR 749 / Rs 82,999 respectively. That makes the device a lot cheaper than the latest mid-range offering. 

Verdict

In our opinion, it doesn’t make any sense to go for the latest Pixel 8a over the six-month-old Pixel 8. This is mainly due to the difference in prices of both devices. The mid-range A-series model has a slightly toned-down camera sensor even though the megapixel count is higher. The Pixel 8 has a larger battery along with fast charging support. Barring this, everything is the same across the board. 

We would also recommend waiting for the Pixel 9 series which is due to arrive this fall with an entirely new design language.

Performance

The Pixel 8a packs the more powerful Google Tensor G3 chip, the same found in the flagship Pixel 8. It promises improved performance and efficiency compared to the Pixel 7a’s Tensor 2 chip. Daily tasks, multitasking, and even light gaming should feel noticeably smoother on the 8a. But you can expect satisfactory everyday performance from the Pixel 7a too. 

The two Pixels in this comparison use the same 8GB RAM capacity, and both come with 128GB of by default. But there’s now a 256GB option on offer with the Pixel 8a, good news for users who tend to quickly fill up their phones with apps and photos.

Camera

Both phones sport the same dual-camera system: a 64MP main sensor and a 13MP ultrawide. But megapixels don’t tell the whole story. Google’s software smarts are what really make these cameras shine. You’ll get amazing pictures in all kinds of lighting, whether you choose the Pixel 7a or 8a.

That said, Google has equipped the Pixel 8a with its Real Tone coloring for video. This makes sure all skin tones look natural in your recordings. This feature will likely be available for other Pixel phones later, but its currently not available on the Pixel 7a. 

The Pixel 8a also improves on a feature called Guided Frame. This helps people with visual impairments take selfies by giving them audio cues. Guided Frame works with the rear cameras too, helping you line up shots of people, pets, and even food!

Battery Life and Charging

The Pixel 8a packs a slightly larger 4492 mAh battery compared to the 7a’s 4385 mAh. While real-world usage will determine the actual difference, the 8a might offer an extra hour or two of uptime. Both phones support 18W fast wired charging and 7.5W Qi wireless charging, which feels a bit dated in 2024.

Software

Here’s a big difference between the two: The Pixel 8a gets a longer software support window. Google promises a whopping 7 years of major OS and security upgrades for the 8a. 

The Pixel 7a, on the other hand, has three years of security updates and two years of major OS upgrades. This means the 8a will stay safer and up-to-date for much longer.

For those who love AI, there’s more good news. Google confirmed that the Pixel 8a will be compatible with Gemini Nano after a future Feature Drop update. This makes the 8a a fantastic choice for trying out on-device AI. Unfortunately, the Pixel 7a might not get this feature.

Price

The Pixel 7a is a bit cheaper than the Pixel 8a. In India, it starts at Rs 52,999 or USD 499 in the US for the base 8/128GB version. But if you’re watching your budget closely, the Pixel 7a still gives you great bang for your buck. Initially priced higher, the Pixel 7a now costs around Rs 37,000 in India and USD 399 in the US.

Google‘s struggle to maintain the secrecy of its upcoming devices continues. The Pixel 8a which is expected to launch during Google I/O 2024 has been in numerous leaks so far. Today is another day of it with the latest one spilling the beans on the complete specifications and European price of the phone.

Tipster MysteryLupin has shared the entire pdf of the Pixel 8a spec sheet on X (formerly Twitter), and the details corroborate what we already knew about the device. 

It will sport a familiar 6.1-inch display, this time with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone measures 152.1 x 72.7 x 8.9 mm and weighs 188 grams.

Under the hood, it will run the Tensor G3 chip, though some rumors suggest the SoC could be underclocked compared to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. Memory options include 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. 

On the software side, the Pixel 8a is expected to receive a handful of new features like Magic Touch-up, Better Grip Magic, Real Tone, and more. Most importantly, the device will get 7 years of software updates just the like regular Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. 

Keeping the lights on will be a 4,492mAh battery that supports 27W wired and wireless Qi charging. For security, you will get an in-display fingerprint scanner with the addition of face unlock.

Moving on, the camera department appears to be unchanged from the Pixel 7a. The phone still has a dual rear setup with a primary 64MP sensor (likely Samsung) and a 13MP ultrawide sensor (likely Sony). Both lenses have optical image stabilization support. The front-facing camera will be a 13MP unit.

The Pixel 8a also has an IP67 water and dust resistance rating, a USB 3.2 Type-C port, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, and support for major LTE and 5G bands.

The leak also includes a Pixel 8a banner hinting at a €549 price tag for the European market. There will also be a €150 trade-in bonus for older smartphones.

The device is expected to come in Bay, Lime Green, Obsidian, and Porcelain colors. Now, all we have to do is wait for the device to officially hit the shelves, as almost everything else about it has already been leaked.

Huawei’s Kirin 9010 inside the Pura 70 chip has been tested with both benchmarks and real-life workloads over the past few days. Notably, the chip performed better than expected with no overheating.

According to TechInsights, the new chip is fabricated on SMIC’s second-generation 7nm-class process node, which is also referred to as N+2. Notably, this is the same process technology that the predecessor Kirin 9000s was built on.

Last year, it was said that Samsung was working on a new battery technology that would be able to hold more power in a smaller space. This new technology is called “stacked battery technology.”

With this year’s Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung was supposed to bring this new technology to smartphones. But that didn’t happen. So the expectation was set for the next release in 2025.

However, it looks like even the Galaxy S25 Ultra won’t have stacked battery technology. Likely to save costs on its next model.

Google’s Pixel 8a is expected to launch at the upcoming I/O annual developer conference that begins on May 14. Leaks and rumors have left nothing to the imagination about the upcoming smartphone. The device recently surfaced in leaked promo materials. Now, the Pixel 8a’s pricing has leaked out two weeks ahead of launch thanks to tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka Onleaks) who has an excellent track record.

The  recently leaked full promo material has increased the hype for the Google Pixel 8a. This is because, the smartphone will be eligible for seven years of OS update putting it on par with premium Pixel 8 duo. It will come with AI camera features including Best Take, Audio Magic Eraser, and Night Sight as well as other features like Live Translate and Circle to Search. The upcoming offering is confirmed to be IP67 rated, have VPN by Google One, and other features. 

Now, all these features and significant upgrades compared to the Pixel 7a suggest that the Pixel 8a will also get a price hike. It was reported previously that the upcoming offering will be 18 percent expensive than its predecessor. However, that won’t be the case. As per Onleaks, Google will retain the pricing of the Pixel 8a with the base 128GB variant costing $499 and the 256GB option carrying a price tag of $559. This means that it will cost the same as the Pixel 7a. It’s worth noting that this pricing is for the US market and it may vary depending on the region. 

Regardless, if the latest pricing leak of the Pixel 8a indeed turns out to be true, then Pixel fans are in for a treat. Considering the AI features loaded on the device as well as core upgrades across display, processor, and battery. Additionally, the Pixel 8a is also seen in Mint, Blue, and Black color options in the latest leak.

On May 14, Google will host its next 2024 I/O developers’ conference. Apart from making announcements on the next-generation Android 15 OS, the company is also expected to unveil the Pixel 8a mid-range phone. So far, the rumor mill has leaked a lot of information about the device. With around 15 days remaining for the launch, here is a rumor roundup of everything that has been revealed about it so far.

Google Pixel 8a design

The Google Pixel 8a’s leaked renders have revealed that it will arrive in four colors, such as Obsidian, Mint, Porcelain, and Bay. In terms of design, the device will look like a toned-down version of the Pixel 8 series. In other words, it will not bring an overhaul improvement to the design as compared to the predecessor model. On the front, it has a flat OLED panel, and on the back, it has a horizontal camera module that houses a pair of cameras and an LED flash. It seems to have a polycarbonate body with rounded corners. 

Google Pixel 8a specifications (rumored)

Reports have revealed that the Pixel 8a will have a 6.1-inch OLED panel that offers a Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The device will come preloaded with Android 14 and is likely to be one of the first phones to get an Android 15 OS upgrade when it arrives later this year. A recent report claimed that the Pixel 8a may receive up to seven years of security updates.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro flagship phones, which were released in October 2023, are powered by the Tensor G3 chipset. Speculation suggests that the Pixel 8 could either use the same chip or a down-clocked version of it. The SoC is likely to be accompanied by 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB / 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It may pack a 4,500mAh battery and support 27W fast charging. To recall, the Pixel 7a has a 4,380mAh battery with 18W charging support. Like its predecessor, the Pixel 8a is also expected to support 7.5W wireless charging.

For security, it will have an in-screen fingerprint scanner. It may continue to feature the same 13-megapixel front camera that’s available on the Pixel 7a. The horizontal camera bar on its back may feature a 64-megapixel primary camera with OIS support and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens. It might have an IP67-rated chassis for durability.

Google Pixel 8a price (rumored)

To recall, the Pixel 7a was announced with a price tag of CAD 599 in Canada for the 128 GB variant. There is a possibility that the Pixel 8a will command a costlier price tag compared to the Pixel 7a. A recent report suggests that the 128 GB and 256 GB editions of the Pixel 8a in Canada may cost CAD 710 and CAD 790, respectively.

For durability, the Pixel 8a will also have an IP67 rating, making it resistant to dust and capable of surviving in up to one meter of water for half an hour.

But the real highlight of the Pixel 8a might be its software. The promo hints at an impressive seven-year run of security updates, aligning it with the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.

As for other specifications, rumors suggest that the phone will have a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of base storage, a 64MP main camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and support for 27W wired charging.

The handset is expected to launch on May 14th at the Google I/O and it might go on sale on May 16th.

The Google Pixel 8a has been subject to a host of leaks and rumours leaving nothing to the imagination. Those still don’t seem to stop as the AI capabilities of the smartphone have now surfaced in a leaked official promo video. It has been shared by reliable tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka Onleaks). The upcoming offering is widely expected to debut at the annual I/O Developer Conference on May 14 this year.

The leaked official promo video shows all the features that will be present on the Google Pixel 8a. Firstly, it will come with a ‘Best Take’ feature that will improve group photos. After clicking multiple pictures, it will let users to choose their best face and eliminate any awkward expressions. 

The Pixel 8a will ship with the Circle to Search feature that doesn’t need any introduction. It was announced earlier in January this year for the Galaxy S24 series and later arrived on the Pixel 8 and 7 series. The feature lets users search for elements/ items by simply circling on it. 

As per the promo video, the Pixel 8a will have ‘Live Translate’ which will translate voice calls and more in real time. The smartphone will get another camera-related feature called ‘Audio Magic Eraser’. It will remove any unnecessary background noises from videos. The leak also confirms Black and Blue color variants of the device. 

A recent leak revealed that the Pixel 8a will be priced 18 percent higher than its predecessor starting at CA$ 708.99 for the base 128GB variant while the higher-tier 256GB will cost CA$ 792.99.

Pixel 8a leaks are everywhere! Renders have been floating around, and Google even accidentally revealed the design in an official Google Fi ad. We pretty much know what the phone will be like, but the price was a mystery… until now!

Tipster Paras (via PassionateGeekz) has spotted the smartphone at a Canadian retailer, spilling the beans on its cost. 

As seen in the screengrabs above, the 128GB model of the Pixel 8a will be priced at CA$ 708.99, while the higher-tier 256GB will cost CA$ 792.99.

The Pixel 7a launched at CA$ 599 in Canada for the base 128GB model. So, the Pixel 8a is roughly 18% more expensive than its predecessor. However, the retailer’s listing doesn’t spill the beans on any other details about the smartphone.

Google Pixel 8a Specifications (Rumored)

The design of the Pixel 8a has been revealed through multiple leaks and renders, showing it will look nearly identical to the Pixel 8 with a familiar visor camera bump and rounded corners. It will come in multiple colors including Obsidian, Porcelain, Bay, and Mint.

The biggest upgrade for the Pixel 8a’s display is the jump to a 120Hz refresh rate, a first for a Pixel A-series phone. The display will also be a 6.1-inch OLED panel with a 1400-nit peak brightness.

Like the higher-end Pixel 8, the Pixel 8a will be powered by the Google Tensor G3 processor but an underclocked version. It will also have 8GB of RAM and the Titan M security chip. The phone will boot with Android 14.

The camera is expected to use the same sensors as the Pixel 7a with a 64MP main sensor, 13MP ultrawide sensor, and a 13MP selfie camera. However, it may benefit from some of the new Pixel 8 camera features like Best Take and Magic Eraser.

Battery life has been a weak spot for Pixel A-series phones, but the Pixel 8a is rumored to have a larger 4,500mAh battery with faster 27W wired charging compared to the Pixel 7a’s 18W. 

It will also support 7.5W wireless charging. There are also rumors of an improved battery stats feature that will show details like date of manufacture, charging cycles, and battery health.

Leaker Evan Blass was quick to spot the Pixel 8a on UScellular’s website. Apparently, the carrier had uploaded a tutorial for the device before swiftly taking it down. 

But Blass managed to grab a screenshot that revealed the Obsidian color variant, along with the previously leaked colors Porcelain, Bay, and Mint.

In terms of design, it seems the Pixel 8a is taking a different route from its predecessor, the Pixel 7a. It’s got curvier edges and thicker bezels, but the carrier listing doesn’t reveal the back of the device. However, leaks so far hint at a switch from the 7a’s glossy finish to a matte texture.

There are also whispers that Pixel 8a will feature a 6.1-inch OLED display boasting a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,400 nits. Powering it could be the Tensor G3 chip, though probably a slightly dialed-down version compared to the one in the Pixel 8 series. 

Battery life might also get a boost from the 7a, according to a recent rumor, possibly with faster charging capabilities.

Google I/O is right around the corner on May 14th, and it’s expected the tech giant will announce the smartphone at the event. 

There’s talk of a price increase over the $499 Pixel 7a, which could shake things up in the mid-range phone market of 2024. Whether this affects its chances of being the best mid-range phone of the year remains to be seen.

The mint is reminiscent of a bright flavor of green, while obsidian and porcelain resemble black and white/off-white colors respectively. The Bay color resembles a blue shade, and its the same one that was spotted in a Google Fi advertisement posted by the company. Two colors definitely have a pastel-like feel to them, and they are a good option for those who want to step out of the ‘black and white’ smartphone shell.

Design-wise, the Pixel 8a appears very similar to its predecessor, the Pixel 8, featuring a matte-textured back and a 6.1-inch FHD+ 90Hz display. Google will likely stick with the Tensor G3 processor found in the Pixel 8 and a 4,500mAh battery for the 8a. The camera setup is also expected to remain unchanged, featuring a 64-megapixel main sensor and a 13-megapixel ultrawide sensor. After all, it’s a budget-segment smartphone (hopefully).

Apple is said to be adding an additional button to the iPhone 16 series: the capture button. A new report throws light into why the Cupertino giant would take such a decision, especially in an age when virtual buttons are gaining popularity. Well, one of the reasons is undoubtedly how Apple is struggling to differentiate its newer models, but maybe Apple also wants to put the focus back on the camera department?

Well, the reasons are just speculations at this point, but worth a read.

OnePlus, OPPO, and realme are expected to switch to ultrasonic fingerprint scanners for their upcoming devices. This technology, already used by brands like Samsung in their flagships, would replace the optical in-screen scanners that were present on their models.

Redmi Turbo 3 won’t cost below $300, all thanks to pricey Snapdragon chips. Redmi exec points out that the chip is the most expensive component in the entire device. 

He further adds that even older Snapdragon 8 series chips, like last year’s 8 Gen 2 devices, currently start at a minimum of 2300 yuan ($317). So, it’s unlikely that the Redmi Turbo 3 will have a price lower than $300.

Additionally, the design shown in the ad doesn’t show the microphone near the cameras that the Pixel 8 has. So, it’s pretty obvious it’s the Pixel 8a. But it’s unclear whether the inclusion of the Pixel 8a in the ad was intentional or an oversight.

As for specifications, the Google Fi ad didn’t spill any new details. The ad focuses on Google Fi’s pricing plans rather than the featured device.

Nevertheless, rumors about the Pixel 8a’s specs have been circulating for a while now. It’s said to feature a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED display with a boosted refresh rate of 120Hz. Under the hood, it’s expected to pack the same Tensor G3 chip as the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, along with either 128 GB or 256 GB of storage.

In terms of cameras, we can expect the same 64 MP OIS main camera and 13 MP ultrawide lens as the Pixel 7a, along with a 13 MP selfie camera.

There’s also talk of faster charging for the Pixel 8a. It’s rumored to support 27W charging which is a much-needed upgrade from the 18W speed seen in previous generations of Pixel A phones.

Google switched to more rounded corners on the flagship Pixel 8 series last year. As per leaked renders, the upcoming mid-range Pixel 8a will borrow the same design language compared to the sharper look of its predecessor. The search giant has reportedly increased the corner radius on the Pixel 8a which now measures 128px instead of 47px on the last year’s model.

While, the OLED display panel, resolution, and screen size are expected to remain unchanged, this year’s Pixel 8a is rumoured to pack an upgraded 120Hz refresh rate and 1,400 nits peak brightness. To jog your memory, the Pixel 7 has a 90 Hz display and 1,070 nits peak brightness. 

Tensor G3 onboard

It’s no surprise that the Pixel 8a will be powered by Google’s latest Tensor G3 chipset which also powers the flagship models. The mid-range offering should be able to support some generative AI features. However, it entirely depends on the RAM capacity since the Pixel 8 has limited support for Gemini Nano due to its 8GB RAM.  

Support for DisplayPort output and faster charging

With the Pixel 8a, the DisplayPort output feature will be available on the entire Pixel 8 series. This will enable users to cast the phone’s display onto a bigger screen via the USB-C port. The feature is similar to Samsung’s DeX mode. 

According to a tipster, the Pixel 8a will also get a faster charging speed of 27W. This is a much-awaited welcome upgrade as Google has stuck with 18W speed on previous generations of Pixel A phones.

The next-generation Pixel 8a has already been subject to leaks and rumours. Now a new report courtesy of Android Authority reveals a host of details of the upcoming offering. 

Google Pixel 8a key details emerge in a massive leak

Citing a source inside Google, Android Authority has shared key specifications of the Pixel 8a. The mid-ranger A-series phone is said to feature a significant display upgrade. While the OLED panel, display resolution, and screen size will remain the same at 6.1 inches, the refresh rate and brightness will get a huge upgrade over last year’s Pixel 7a. The device will offer a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,400 nits peak brightness. 

The report adds that Google has increased the corner radius on the Pixel 8a which now measures 128px instead of 47px on the last year’s model. This is in line with the leaked renders that already revealed the design change. 

The Pixel 8a will also come with DisplayPort output. This will make the feature available across the entire Pixel 8 series. The flagship models recently started getting support for display output. Under the hood, the upcoming smartphone will reportedly be equipped with a Tensor G3 chipset which also powers the non-pro and pro models. The Pixel 8a won’t get any upgrades in the camera departments. It is very much expected to retain the same setup as its predecessor which comprises a 64MP IMX787 sensor and a 13MP IMX712 lens. 

Lastly, the report adds that the Pixel 8a will likely be offered in more regions compared to the limited availability of the Pixel 7a. The forthcoming smartphone includes electronic warranty labels for the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

Google may have unintentionally revealed its plans for the upcoming Pixel 8a while addressing a curious change with a recent Pixel software update. The company confirmed that an expanded battery stats page is exclusive to the Pixel 8a and other future devices.

Android 14 QPR1 introduced a useful battery stats feature that displayed charging cycle counts and the battery’s manufacturing date. However, this feature mysteriously vanished in the March 2024 Pixel update. 

Google has since clarified on a bug tracker page that the feature was never intended for currently released devices. The company says “We only enable this page on Pixel 8a and beyond, so this is WAI(Working as Intended).”

Google statements confirm two big things. Firstly, it serves as Google’s official confirmation that the affordable Pixel 8a is in the pipeline. 

Secondly,  future Pixel devices, starting with the 8a, will enjoy a dedicated and maybe more comprehensive battery health monitoring section in system settings. But it’s that this feature won’t be available on older Pixel devices.

Regardless, this slip-up suggests Google is working to provide Pixel users with better tools to understand their phone’s battery longevity.

The Pixel 8a launch is anticipated within the next few months, possibly aligning with Google I/O in May. This timeframe would mirror the release pattern of its predecessors.

Google Pixel 8a specifications (rumored)

Reports suggest that the Google Pixel 8a might come equipped with the Tensor G3 chip. There’s a chance it could be a toned-down version of the Tensor G3 chip found in the flagship Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones.

The device is expected to boast 8 GB of RAM and support 27W fast charging. CAD renders of the Pixel 8a were leaked in October last year, revealing its dimensions to be 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9mm, with a 6.1-inch OLED display. Further details about the smartphone are yet to be disclosed.

According to the publication, the Google Pixel 8a will come in two options, such as 128 GB and 256 GB. To recall, the Pixel 7a, which came with 128 GB of storage, was priced at 499 euros at launch. The new report claims that the 128 GB Pixel 8a will cost 569.90 euros, whereas the 256 GB edition will be priced at 630 euros.

It further claims that the Pixel 8a will come in as many as four color options. These include Obsidian (black), Porcelain (white), Bay (light blue), and Mint (light green). It seems that not all four colors will be available in both configurations. The report also states that the Pixel 8a will be available for purchase in April or May of this year.

Back in November 2023, the design of the Google Pixel 8a was first revealed in leaked images. Now, the device has been spotted again. But this time, the retail box of the Pixel 8a was leaked, which has revealed key details regarding the upcoming smartphone.

The images of the retail box were shared on a private Vietnamese Facebook group (Via MySmartPrice). Looking at the official packaging, we can see that the Pixel 8a has a design that is similar to the leaked renders we covered earlier. The smartphone features rounded corners and a dual camera setup on the rear. It retains the visor like camera module that also houses an LED flash module. The Pixel 8a can be seen in the black color model.

Meanwhile, a center aligned punch hole selfie camera is housed in the front. The volume rockers and power buttons are situated on the right side of the device. Notably, Google Pixel 8a’s G6GPR model number was also revealed. The retail box has also confirmed that the handset will support 27W wired fast charging. This leak shares the dimensions of the device as well, which is 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9mm.

To recall, the Pixel 8a is an upcoming mid range model that will likely launch ahead of the flagship Pixel 9 series. It is believed to be equipped with an underclocked version of the Tensor G3 chipset. In a GeekBench sighting, the smartphone has scored 1218 points in the single core test and 3175 points in the multi core tests. Although the official launch of the Google Pixel 8a is still several months away, leaks have already begun to provide insights into the device. The latest revelation shows the Pixel 8a’s wallpapers, which have been circulating online.

Aptly named the “Minerals” collection, these wallpapers were shared by SmartPrix and Kamila Wojciechowska, both reputable sources for Google Pixel information leaks. 

The collection features three captivating wallpapers, each with a light and dark version to suit individual preferences: Titanite, Barite, and Hematite.

The wallpapers are created by Andrew Zuckerman, the same artist behind the Pixel 8 series’ default wallpapers. Each of them showcases the intricate patterns and natural beauty of minerals.

The Titanite wallpapers, codenamed “emerald,” feature a vibrant green emerald stone, while the Barite wallpapers, codenamed “sky,” highlight the mineral on a serene blue background. 

This blue background could potentially serve as the stock wallpaper for the Pixel 8a’s Bay color variant. Lastly, the “licorice” Hematite wallpapers exhibit the mineral in a deep blue hue, mirroring the Pixel 8 Pro’s Obsidian shade.

In addition to the “Minerals” collection, rumors suggest that the Pixel 8a may also include a “porcelain” wallpaper and a Motif collection illustration designed by Finnish artist Antti Kalevi. These wallpapers, along with the “Minerals” collection, are available for download in high resolution.

Google‘s Pixel 8a smartphone has been leaked in a new set of dummy unit images. These images, shared on LinkedIn by leakers No Name and xleaks7, reportedly depict dummy units of the Pixel 8a. The four photos showcase the front, back, and sides of the upcoming device.

The dummy units show the Pixel 8a with a more rounded design than its predecessor. The leakers also suggested that the device will be slightly slimmer, yet a bit longer than the Pixel 7a, measuring 153.44 x 72.74 x 8.94mm.

The front of the dummy unit shows that the device will still have a punch-hole selfie camera, as well as some thick bezels. On the back, we see the Pixel’s signature camera bar, two sensors, and a flash. 

Meanwhile, the right side of the handset has the same power button and volume rocker that has appeared on other Pixel phones.

Similar to its A-series predecessors, Google’s Pixel 8a is expected to launch in the first half of 2024. The exact release date, however, remains unconfirmed. We expect to learn more in the coming months.

Google is nearing the launch of its Pixel 8 series of flagship smartphones. The Pixel 8 lineup will be announced on 4th October 2023. But apart from just premium models, the company is also expected to launch the more affordable Pixel 8a later on as well. Now, a new leak has revealed the design of the Pixel 8a model, so let’s have a look.

Google Pixel 8a Design

The leak was shared by known tipster Abhishek Yadav, who shared live images of the upcoming device on X (formerly Twitter). Looking at the images, the Pixel 8a can be seen in a bright blue color option. In the tweet, Abhishek stated that the Pixel 8a has the codename Akita and will be powered by the Search Engine giant’s proprietary Tensor G3 SoC. The leaked live images offer us a glimpse of the device from the side, front, and back.

We can see a center-aligned punch hole cutout for the selfie camera on the front with noticeable bezels surrounding the display. Notably, the Google Pixel 8a also features curved edges. This makes its design more in line with the other models from the Pixel 8 series. The right side houses the power button and volume rockers. Similar to the previous generation devices, the Pixel 8a retains the visor camera module design as the Pixel 6a and Pixel 7a models.

Keep in mind that this is an unconfirmed leak so take these live images with a pinch of salt. Since the Pixel 8a launch is still a while away, it is likely that the device spotted on X is a prototype version. The Pixel 7a launched back in May 2023, so the Pixel 8a might have a similar launch window.

We’ve all heard the leaks and rumors about the Pixel 8 series, especially the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The lineup is also expected to include the Pixel 8a, but there has been very little information about it until now. However, a device with the model name “Google Akita” has recently appeared on Geekbench, and it is believed to be the Pixel 8a.

The Geekbench listing for the Akita smartphone reveals that it will be powered by an underclocked version of the Tensor G3 chipset and the Mali-G715 GPU. It will also have up to 8GB of RAM and boot Android 14 out of the box. The smartphone scored 1,218 and 3,175 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.

The details of the Pixel 8a are still under wraps. In December 2022, Android Authority reported that the device is codenamed “Akita,” continuing Google’s animal-inspired naming convention for Pixels. However, it is not yet clear if the Pixel 8a will be released.

According to sources, Google may only release a new A-series smartphone model every two years. As the Pixel 7a is released in 2023, then the next A-series phone could be released in 2025. By then, it would be the Pixel 9a, or Google may choose to rebrand the series by removing the number.

For now, the Pixel 7a is a great option for those who want a Pixel experience on a budget. It has a 6.1-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and a 90Hz refresh rate. It is powered by Google’s Tensor G2 chipset with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The phone also has a 64MP dual-camera system, a 13MP selfie camera, stereo speakers, a 3.5mm audio jack, a 4,385mAh battery, and support for 18W wired charging and wireless charging.
