Google has rolled out extended service programs for selected Pixel 9 series phones after finding hardware problems in a small number of units. The move affects the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, with free repairs or full replacements offered based on model and eligibility.

For the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, Google has introduced an Extended Repair Program that focuses on display defects. The coverage lasts for three years from the original retail purchase date. Devices qualify if they show a vertical line running from the bottom to the top of the display. Pixel 9 Pro units may also qualify if the display flickers at times. If a service center confirms the issue after inspection, users can get a free display replacement. Repairs can be done at Google walk in centers, authorized service partners, or through online repair options, depending on location.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold falls under a separate Extended Warranty Program. Instead of a screen repair, eligible users may receive a full device replacement at no cost. This program applies to hardware issues that affect core device functionality, including the same vertical line display defect seen on other Pixel 9 Pro models. Depending on where the user lives, replacements may be handled online, at participating Google Stores, or through walk in centers that can approve a remote replacement.

Google says only a limited number of devices are affected. All phones submitted under these programs will go through an eligibility inspection. Devices with cracked displays, cover glass damage, or liquid damage may be disqualified. Fees may apply if the issue is outside the program scope. Proof of ownership may be requested during the process. Users must be 18 years or older, or have a parent or guardian complete the request.

Both programs start on December 8, 2025, and run through authorized online and in store channels. Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL users are eligible for free display repairs, while Pixel 9 Pro Fold users can receive one free replacement per device. Users who already paid for eligible repairs will be contacted by email with next steps. All repairs and replacements come with a 90 day warranty, in line with local consumer laws.

Replacing commonly failing parts like the USB-C port is straightforward, as they are situated independently from other components. Google’s choice of screws further simplifies disassembly compared to competing foldables.

iFixit also highlighted the ability to remove the external display without requiring heat, a process known to be risky for inexperienced repairers.

However, the teardown wasn’t without its criticisms. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s battery replacement process was deemed less than ideal. iFixit specifically faulted Google’s use of pull tabs for battery removal, finding them to be “flimsier” than those used by Samsung and prone to breakage even with the application of heat.

Another point of concern was the phone’s logic board, which iFixit described as “flimsy” and cautioned users to handle with extreme care to avoid damage.

Both the Honor Magic V3 and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold prioritize build quality and durability, but they take different paths in design. The Magic V3 is lighter at 230 grams while the Pixel weighs 257 grams.

For users who prioritize a lightweight device, the difference in heft should make a noticeable difference — particularly when holding the phone for extended periods or using it one-handed in folded mode.

Another notable difference is in terms of thickness. The Magic V3 is the thinnest foldable on the market with a profile of just 9.3mm when folded. Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, at 10.5mm, feels bulkier in comparison.

Additional Features

In terms of additional features, both devices offer side-mounted fingerprint sensors, which are fast and reliable. The Google Pixel Stand and Pixel Stand 2 can be a great wireless charger for Pixel owners except those who own the latest Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Now Google has shared a diagram revealing the reason why it cannot be charged using the Pixel Stand or Pixel Stand 2.

As you can see from the image below, the wireless charging coil inside the Pixel 9 Pro Fold isn’t perfectly centered as compared to most other phones that support wireless charging including the previous Pixel devices.

As the company’s wireless charging solution comes in the form of a stand instead of something like a pad on top of which you place the phone and can freely adjust, it’s not possible to align the charging coils inside. That’s why Google’s latest foldable doesn’t charge with its own wireless charger.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold works with many other wireless chargers in the market

Google confirmed that the phone should charge wirelessly with many other wireless chargers available in the market. “When you use another wireless charger, adjust the position of your phone to get it to charge. To confirm if it’s aligned correctly, check the charging indicator on your phone.” the company noted.

The company has updated the camera placement on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold as compared to the predecessor. This could be a reason behind the relocation of the wireless charging coil.

Whatever the reason is, it’s a shame that they didn’t make the necessary changes to keep the wireless charging coil in the same place and make the Pixel 9 Pro Fold compatible with the Pixel Stand 2. It’s also very inconvenient for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold users (who already own a Pixel Stand) to buy a wireless charger from another manufacturer just to charge their new Pixel wirelessly.

We hope Google addresses this alignment issue in the successor to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Google offers a number of AI features which are developed based on Android 14

Fortunately, Google ported some of the new features of Android 15 to Android 14. For example, the screenshot interface on the Pixel 9 adopts the new design of Android 15, with the preview window placed above the new pill-shaped tray with rounded buttons. There is also a dedicated app for screenshots that is supposed to help the user in finding out information from all the screenshots in the device. It can also function as a reminder.

Nonetheless, the new Pixel lineup currently doesn’t have support for the “Private Space”, which requires the system to be based on Android 15.

Some of the AI additions to the Pixel 9 series include Gemini Live and the Pixel Studio image generator, which lets you generate images completely on the device within a couple of seconds based on text prompts. There is also a camera feature called “Add me”, which makes capturing group photos a lot easier my merging two different images together that contain different people in the frames. Google has unveiled its second-generation foldable phone today. It is called the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The company had forayed in to the foldable segment back in 2022. Google has made quite a few changes to the latest offering. Specs-wise, it has many similarities compared to the latest-generation Pixel 9 series (standard, pro and pro XL) slab phones. The foldable phone goes up against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, OnePlus Open, Vivo X Fold 3, in the market. Let’s dive in to the technical details below. 

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold specs

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a proper foldable phone-like looks compared to its predecessor that had a wider aspect ratio. In fact, the primary external screen is taller and looks similar to a slab phone. Similar to the Pixel 9 series, the foldable phone also has rounded corner offering a better grip in hands. The company says that the device’s boasts a multi-alloy steel with an aerospace-grade high-strength aluminium alloy cover. The back panel of the device sports a rectangular camera island with two pill-shaped cutouts accomodating sensors. The power and volume rocker keys are located on the right side. The former also doubles up as a fingerprint scanner. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is said to fold flat completely unlike its predecessor. It can also be used in a tabletop mode.

The external display on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold measures 6.3-inches. It is surrounded by symmetrical bezels on all sides and has a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout. The AMOLED screen bears an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The foldable phone features a large 8-inch internal Super Actua Flex panel screen bringing it on par with the OnePlus Open. It has a resolution of 2,152 x 2,076 pixels with a 120Hz LTPO refresh rate and 2,700 nits peak brightness. 

On the optics front, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a 48MP main camera accompanied by a 10.5MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10.8MP telephoto unit with 5x zoom and 20x super res zoom. Both the internal and external screens have a 10MP selfie camera sensors. Much like the Pixel bar phones, the foldable phone also comes with various camera features and also intelligent editing features.

Internally, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is powered by a Tensor G4 chipset. There is a Titan M2 chipset for security purposes. The foldable phone packs up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. It ships with Android 14 OS and is eligible for 7 years of OS updates just as the Pixel 9 series. You can see the renders of the Pixel Watch 3 below, which looks very similar to the predecessor. However, it was reported that the Pixel watch 3 will come with a brighter display and possibly slightly slimmer bezels. The strap seems to retain the design of the predecessor. According to a previous report, the watch 3 series will continue to use the same Qualcomm 5100 chip and the Cortex M33 coprocessor. as the predecessor. It will be paired with the same 2GB RAM and 32GB eMMC storage, which is also the same as the predecessor. So the watch will have a very similar computing power as the predecessor. However, it is expected that the new watch will come equipped with Wear OS 5 out of the box, which may offer some improvements to the new watches. It is also speculated that the refresh rate has been upgraded from 30Hz to 60Hz.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold:

The tipster has once again shared high-definition renders of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which you can check out below. According to sources, Google plans to launch two storage versions for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold phone, 256GB and 512GB. These two versions are expected to be priced at US$1,799 and US$1,919 respectively.

According to previous rumors, the phone will come with an 8.0-inch inner screen with specifications of 147×141 mm, and a resolution of 2152 x 2076 pixels. The panel will have a pixel density of 374ppi, which is very similar to the Pixel Fold. The predecessor was slightly taller than the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which comes with a 6:5 aspect ratio.

The outer screen is measured at 6.24″. For context, the predecessor offers a 5.8″ cover display. The outer panel on the upcoming device will reportedly reach 1800 nits in high brightness mode, while the predecessor reaches 1200 nits.

Being in line with the previous leaks, the renders reveal a flat design with a camera island that is no longer connected to the frame. All models feature centered punch-hole front cameras.

The standard Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro come with a single pill-shaped camera cutout on the back, while the Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes with dual pill-shaped cutouts for the same. The standard Pixel 9 still offers a dual camera setup on the back. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold also appears to have a triple camera setup on the back similar to the Pixel 9 Pro.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold

The Pixel 9 could offer a 6.3″ “Actua” display, which is slightly bigger than the 6.2″ one of its predecessor. The main camera and the ultrawide reportedly boast 50MP and 48MP sensors inside respectively. For context, the ultrawide is upgraded from 12MP. The phone uses a 10.5MP selfie camera similar to its predecessor. There is no more reliable information about the sensors at this point.

While the renders show a total of three models, according to a previous rumor, there are a total of four models in the Pixel 9 series – Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Another significant change is size. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will sport an 8-inch inner display, a noticeable jump from the 7.6 inches of its predecessor. The increase in real estate is accompanied by a bump in display quality.

The inner panel now features 1,600 nits of full-screen HDR brightness, a welcome improvement over the original Pixel Fold’s 1,000 nits. The resolution also sees a slight increase, though the larger size keeps the pixel density roughly on par with the original Fold.

We’ve covered several reports suggesting that Google Pixel phones may soon support satellite communication. New evidence from the Android 15 Beta 4 now confirms that Google is working on bringing satellite emergency call support to Android smartphones.

According to Android Authority, the fourth beta of Android 14 has code strings referencing the upcoming satellite connectivity features. The feature will likely be called “Pixel Satellite SOS.”

Although not confirmed, the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and the foldable Pixel 9 Pro Fold are expected to be the first to benefit from this feature. These smartphones will reportedly come equipped with Samsung’s new Exynos 5400 modem, which has Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) capabilities essential for satellite communication.

The code strings further reveal that satellite communication will be limited to text messages sent through Google Messages. Additionally, similar to Apple’s initial offering, Google might provide a two-year grace period where Pixel Satellite SOS is free. 

However, the pricing structure after this initial period is still unknown, with no indication from Google about potential subscription costs yet. While Apple also offers emergency calls via satellite, it is unclear whether Google plans to extend its emergency satellite functionality beyond messaging. 

Another notable point from the code is that the feature might not be available for Pixel 9 phones at their launch on August 13th or could be initially restricted to certain regions. Eligible Pixel smartphones might require a software update to enable Pixel Satellite SOS.

Besides Pixel phones, Samsung is also preparing to introduce satellite connectivity to its Galaxy phones soon. Support for this feature has been found in three different Samsung apps, suggesting the company is in the final stages of development.

However, neither Google nor Samsung has provided a timeline for when their devices will receive satellite communication support.

Real-life images of Google‘s entire Pixel 9 series have been revealed. We even got the internal shots of the phones. Google is set to introduce the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold very soon.

Previously, hands-on image of pink Pixel 9 had already leaked. Now, Android Authority team has also managed to uncover photos of Pixel 9 Pro Fold too. Let’s take a first look at the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold features a square camera array. Internal images reveal that it comes with a triple camera setup. Additionally, the outer display’s selfie camera is centered, while the inner display’s selfie camera is positioned at the top right corner.

As we mentioned earlier, Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro had already been spotted on the earlier leaks. However, the new NCC photos provide a comprehensive look at all the phones from every angle. Unlike the glossy finish we’ve seen on previous Pixel models, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL feature a matte finish on the back, similar to Apple’s iPhone Pro lineup. The boxy design of these phones also gives them an iPhone-like appearance. It seems phone manufacturers are gradually shifting away from rounded design language.

Another thing we’ve learned is that there might be an increase in charging speed. Pixel 9 Pro XL could come with 35W charging. While this is not any exciting compared to phones made by Chinese manufacturers, it’s a small improvement over the Pixel 8 Pro with 30W charging. We’ve also got some info on the battery capacities. The battery capacities of the Pixel 9 series seem pretty similar to the previous series. In our previously shared article, we mentioned that the regular Pixel 9 is a bit bigger than Pixel 8. Pixel 9 comes with a 4558 mAh battery, while Pixel 8 has a 4485 mAh battery. It’s not a huge difference, but this reveals the slight increase in size is because of the bigger battery. Note that the typical capacity is not what’s used on marketing materials, you can check the battery capacity and compare it with other devices’ battery.

French publication Dealabs has leaked what appear to be the European prices for the four upcoming Pixel 9 devices: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. If accurate, the leak shows a price increase for most models compared to their Pixel 8 counterparts.

According to the leak, the base Pixel 9 will start at €899 for the 128GB model and €999 for the 256GB model. The available colors are reported to be Obsidian (black), Porcelain (white), Cosmo (likely pink), and Mojito (presumably green).

The Pixel 9 Pro, expected to be similar in size to the base model but with additional cameras, will start at €1,099 for 128GB, €1,199 for 256GB, and €1,329 for 512GB. The top-tier configurations will reportedly be limited to Obsidian and Hazel, while the other storage options will also include Porcelain and the rumored pink shade, possibly named “Cosmo.”

The Pixel 9 Pro XL, tipped to be the true successor to the Pixel 8 Pro in terms of size, will share the Pixel 9 Pro’s internals but come in a larger form factor. Prices will start at €1,199 for 128GB, €1,299 for 256GB, €1,429 for 512GB, and a staggering €1,689 for the rumored 1TB model. The color options are even more complex, with the 1TB model exclusive to Obsidian, 128GB and 512GB models also available in Porcelain and Hazel, and the 256GB variant uniquely including Pink.

Finally, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the successor to the original Pixel Fold, is expected to cost €1,899 for the 256GB version and €2,029 for the 512GB version. Color options for the foldable appear to be limited to Obsidian and Porcelain.

It’s important to note that these prices are based on Euros, and VAT variations might cause slight fluctuations across the European Union. However, if the leak is accurate, it indicates a trend of price hikes for most Pixel 9 models compared to their Pixel 8 predecessors.

The rumor mill tentatively calls the said device the Pixel Fold 2. However, a recent report from AndroidAuthority suggests that the device will go by the name Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

According to the publication, it has learned from a Google insider that there will be a fourth Pixel 9 series device. This device is said to be a foldable phone. The report states that the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro are codenamed “tokay” and “caiman.”

On the other hand, the “Komodo” and “comet” codenames belong to the Pixel 9 Pro XL and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The software for this year’s Pixel phones also mentions these names.

Reports have revealed that the second-generation Pixel foldable, which is now said to have the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, will feature the Tensor G4 chip. Leaked renders of the device have revealed that its design will be more in line with the Pixel 9 series.

According to previous reports, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will have an 8.02-inch foldable screen on the inside and a 6.29-inch cover display. According to reports, the device will come with 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage, and the Pixie AI assistant. Now that the company’s next foldable is said to be a part of the Pixel 9 series, it is likely to break cover in October this year.
