Fresh information reveals that Google is giving up on tablets completely. Hence, the company will not be launching a successor for the Pixel Slate. The company will focus on laptops driven by Chrome OS.

According to Computer World, Google was working on two small-sized tablets. However, it decided to stop their development earlier this week. Google’s Senior VP for Devices & Services also confirmed that the hardware team of Google will solely focus on laptops. He added the company will continue to support the Pixel Slate for the long-term. Google is committed to support it until June 2024. While the company won’t be making first-party tablets, the form factor will be supported by the Chrome OS.

The report from Computer World further states that a Google spokesperson has said that the employees that were working on abandoned tablets will be assigned other projects. These employees could be working on the Google laptops. He also revealed that the company may release a new notebook-type Pixelbook hardware before the end of 2019.

Perhaps, the Google may announce the new Pixelbook alongside the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones in October this year. Google’s decision of axing its Pixel line of tablets will have no impact on the Pixel smartphones. While the Nexus series of Android tablets that were launched in the past competed well with Apple iPads, the newer Pixel tablets could not rival with Apple iPad and Microsoft Surface products.

The device is listed as the “google rammus” and its name isn’t the only thing weird about it.ge

The “google rammus” was benchmarked a few days ago and Geekbench reveals it runs Android 7.1 Nougat and has 4GB of RAM. It also states the device is powered by an Intel Core M3-8100Y processor.

There are reports that the device might actually be an older prototype of the Pixel Slate which is powered by the same processor. Apparently, Geekbench has an issue with recognizing Chrome OS. The Pixel Slate was shown to be running Android Pie on the benchmark site before its eventual release.

There are also some who are of the opinion that it is a less powerful version of the Pixel Slate that may be unveiled soon. The Pixel Slate comes in four versions with different processors. The least powerful has an Intel Celeron processor with 4GB/8GB of RAM. It is followed by the version with an Intel Core M3 processor and then two others with Core i5 and Core i7 processors.

The version with the Core M3 processor only comes with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The “google rammus” has 4GB of RAM which means it should cost less but more than the Celeron version.

These are all speculations at the moment, so take them with a pinch of salt.

It is the first table from the search engine to run on Chrome OS. It comes with a detachable keyboard and a stylus.

The Google Pixel Slate 2-in-1 device features a 12.3-inch LTPS LCD display that produces 3000 x 2000 pixels resolution. The display offers an aspect ratio of 3:2. The anodized aluminum chassis of the Pixel Slate measures 7mm in thickness and it weighs 1.6 pounds. The edges of the device are slightly curved which makes it comfortable to hold for longer hours.

The Pixel Slate features dual front-facing speakers. A fingerprint scanner is embedded under the power button of the Slate. Google did not confirm on the exact size of the battery present inside the Pixel Slate. However, what is known about it is that it can last for about 12 hours on a single charge. The device is equipped with a USB-C port. There is a wide-angle 8-megapixel front-facing camera on the Pixel Slate. An 8-megapixel camera is also available on the backside of the device.

The Google Pixel Slate runs on a customized version of Chrome OS that is designed to offer more desktop-like experience. Depending on how the device is held, the Pixel Slate can automatically switch between tablet and laptop modes. As expected, the device includes the G Suite and it also features a user-friendly split-screen mode.

The Chrome OS is also deeply integrated with Google Assistant. The search engine has also added a virus protection and a Titan security chip in the device for complete security.

The Google Pixel Slate comes in four variants. The base model has Intel Celeron processor that is coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of SSD storage. It carries a price tag of $599. There are other variants include Intel Core m3, Core i5 and Core i7. The highest configuration variant is priced at $1,599 and it includes Core i7, 16 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD storage. The Pixel Slate comes in a single color option of Midnight Blue.

Another new device that is now expected to get unveiled tomorrow is the Google Pixel Slate.

The Google Pixel Slate is rumored to arrive as laptop-tablet hybrid which means it will be equipped with a detachable keyboard. The renders of the rumored tablet have also leaked. There is nothing significant about its design, but the support for detachable keyboard can be seen since it features a pogo-pin connector.

Like the Pixelbook from last year, the Pixel Slate seems to be equipped with 3:2 aspect ratio display. The screen of the device is surrounded by thick bezels. There is no information on the exact size of the screen and resolution of the Pixel Slate. However, it is likely to support at least Full HD resolution. It is also equipped with a front-facing camera and a rear-mounted snapper.

The renders of the Pixel Slate features dual front-facing speakers, a USB-C port and a fingerprint reader. There is no 3.5mm audio jack on the device. The detachable keyboard features a large-sized track pad and round-shaped keys. It features a shortcut key for accessing Google Assistant.
