Soon after the Google Pixel 6 series launch, reports had flooded the internet regarding a number of bugs and issues that the smartphone lineup faced. But with the Pixel 7 series launch, it appeared that the company had a more stable release this year. However, it appears that the new phones aren’t completely immune to bugs.

Apparently, the Pixel 7 series have been facing issues with its support for the Pixel Stand dock. A Reddit user who owns the Pixel 7 Pro took to the online platform to share the issues with the Pixel Stand that his flagship smartphone suffered from. He stated that “When putting my phone on it, it begins the setup process, but when it gets to the part where I can pick my Home control devices, the app crashes and returns to the home screen. Every so often I then get a prompt to set up the stand, I go through the process of setting it up, only to be prompted again 10 minutes later or so. On top of this, the phone is not charging.”

Notably, he claimed that his Pixel 6 Pro faced no such issues with the second gen Pixel Stand, and even performing a factory reset did not help the bug plaguing the Pixel 7 Pro. This user is not alone as other Pixel 7 series owners have come forward to share their experience with the Pixel Stand online. Another user alleged that his Pixel 7 device turned black while on the dock, while another claimed that he couldn’t unlock his phone once he took it off the stand.

Apparently, this issue was more common with more than one user complaining about the under display fingerprint sensor becoming unavailable on their phones after being taken off the dock. As of right now, there is no fix to this issue but we can expect Google to release a software update to address the bug.

Google has never been one to jump on the bandwagon when it comes to new features, especially those that consumers really want. Fast charging is the perfect example. There are a plethora of phones (including mid-range models) that charge at incredible speeds, with some going as high as 120W for wired charging and 67W for wireless charging. Google, on the other hand, has remained stuck on 18W for wired charging for both its flagships and mid-range phones and 12W for wireless charging! Now there is good news for the upcoming Pixel 6 series.

The Pixel 6 series is shaping up to be the best Pixel phone from Google. With an unusual design that will turn heads and a custom chipset made in partnership with Samsung, there is a lot to look forward to. The folks at Android Police have found one more interesting detail that will get fans excited.

Google is expected to announce a new wireless charging stand alongside the Pixel 6 series. Ahead of the launch of the phones, the source reports that retailers have begun to input accessories for the devices. One such retailer is an American carrier and according to a supply chain source, one of the new accessories has the name “Google Pixel 23W WL Stand.”

Based on the name, it is presumed that the new Pixel stand will be able to output up to 23W which means one or both of the Pixel 6 phones will charge at this power rating. This is a significant jump in charging speed from the 12W of the Pixel 5 and the info checks out since an earlier report already revealed that the new charger will have a cooling fan. This is necessary since it will be charging at a higher rating which will generate heat.

At the moment, the new wireless charger, the Pixel 6, and the Pixel 6 Pro are yet to get listed on the database of the Wireless Power Consortium, so we do not have additional details.

The Pixel Stand is Google’s wireless charger for compatible Pixel phones. Announced back in 2018, it sure is due for a successor with better technology and it appears we may be getting just that this year when the Pixel 6 series arrives.

Details dug up in the code of the recently released Android 12 Beta 2 have pointed at a new wireless charger in development. Found by 9to5Google, the code mention cooling fans in the charger which means that the wireless charger should be able to pump out more than the 10W the first-gen Pixel Stand outputs.

We expect the new wireless charger to have a significantly higher maximum power output but most likely not as close to what we have from Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO, OnePlus, and Meizu.

The code also reveals the wireless charger is codenamed “Luxuryliner”, and looking at the inspiration for the name, there is a possibility that this may not be a vertical wireless charger.

Just like the Pixel Stand, this new charger should be able to activate some interesting software features on the new Pixel phones once placed on it. The Pixel Stand activated a new UI on the Pixel 3 that displayed the owner’s schedule, traffic info, and latest news. It also automatically turned on Do Not Disturb Mode at night while users who own a Nest Hello Video Doorbell could see who is at the door on the screen of their phone when placed on the charger.

The Pixel Stand had a launch price of $79 and shipped with a USB-C to USB-C cable and an 18W USB PD adapter. Knowing Google, we do not think the next-gen charger will cost any less especially if it is bringing new features and faster charging.

The new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL support wireless charging, a first for the Pixel phones. While there are a bunch of wireless chargers on the market already, it is no surprise that Google announced its own charger named the Pixel Stand. However, the Pixel Stand does more than charge your phone.

Just like the name says, the phone is propped up when you place it on the charger. There are a bunch of “standing” wireless chargers but Google has a reason for choosing this design.

When you place your Pixel 3 (or Pixel 3 XL) on the charger, a new UI comes up on the phone’s display. This UI shows important information like your schedule, traffic info, and the latest news. It also has an ambient lighting that mimics sunrise before your alarm rings. At night, it automatically activates Do Not Disturb mode, so that you can disconnect and get ready for bed.

The phone will also begin a slideshow of your favorite pictures from Google Photos as you charge. Also, if there is a knock at the door and you use a Nest Hello video doorbell, the Pixel 3 will show who’s at the door when charging on the Pixel Stand.

All the features mentioned above works well only if the device is propped up which explains the reason for the adoption of the standing design.

The Pixel Stand provides up to 10W fast charging for your Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. You can place the phone in landscape mode too and it will charge. Google says it will also charge Qi-compatible devices.

The charger weighs 160g, has a height of 105mm and a diameter of 92mm. It is made of polycarbonate and has a silicone base. The Pixel Stand costs $79 and will ship with a 1.5mm USB-C to USB-C cable and an 18W USB PD adapter.
