A few days ago, the new POCO C50 went official. It is an entry-level from the most affordable lineup of the brand and it comes with low-end specifications, but also with a big battery and a recent Android version. Earlier last year, its predecessor made its debut too: the POCO C40. In a world where new phones are not always better than older ones, it became harder to understand which device to choose. Is the new POCO C50 really better than the POCO C40 or it is better to opt for the older model? We will try to answer this question through this specs comparison between the latest entry-level phones from the brand.

Design

There is an important change in the design between the POCO C40 and the POCO C50. The latter comes with a rear design similar to the one of the Xiaomi 11 series, while the former is definitely uglier due to its big camera module painted in black. Further, the C50 has more compact dimensions thanks to the presence of a smaller display and a smaller battery. I think you understood which one is the best. Both phones are dust resistant and splash resistant, but they do not have any IP certification. They come with pretty thick bezels around the display and a waterdrop notch, and their fingerprint readers are placed on the rear side like very old phones.

Display

The specifications of the displays found on these two phones are more or less the same. The only different thing is the diagonal. The POCO C40 has a bigger display with a diagonal of 6.71 inches, while the POCO C50 has a smaller panel with 6.52 inches. For the rest, they are pretty much the same. We are talking about two IPS LCD panels with an HD+ resolution and a brightness of 400 nits. It is not an insufficient display, but it is a low-end display with a low level of detail and not very realistic colors. It is sufficient for everyone, but nothing special. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass and it does not include a fingerprint reader as it is placed on the rear side of the phone. The handsets include a mono speaker, as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack for wired earphones.

Hardware/Software

Even though it is an older device, the POCO C40 has a superior hardware department. First of all, it comes with a better SoC, even though it is an unknown processor released by an unknown chipmaker. We are talking about the JLQ JR510 chipset built with an 11 nm production process and sporting an octa-core architecture composed of four Cortex A55 CPUs running at a max frequency of 2 GHz, four Cortex A55 CPUs running at a max frequency of 1.5 GHz, and a Mali G57 MC1 GPU. The chipset is paired with up to 4 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of native storage expandable with a micro SD slot. The POCO C50 has an inferior MediaTek Helio A22 chipset built at 12 nm and running at a max frequency of 2 GHz. It has a quad-core architecture composed of four Cortex A53 CPUs running at 2 GHz and a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. Alongside the chipset, there are up to 3 GB of RAM and up to 32 GB of native storage. Note that the POCO C50 runs Android 12 out of the box (Go Edition), while the C40 is based on Android 11.

Camera

The POCO C40 is equipped with better rear cameras. It has a dual camera setup composed of a 13 MP main shooter and a 2 MP depth sensor. With the POCO C50, you actually get a very disappointing 8 MP main shooter and an even more disappointing depth sensor with less than 1 MP of resolution. Both phones come with the same 5 MP selfie snapper.

Battery

The POCO C40 wins the battery comparison because it is equipped with a bigger 6000 mAh battery: one of the biggest batteries this year. It even supports 18W fast charging, while the POCO C50 has no fast charging support.

Xiaomi POCO C50 vs Xiaomi POCO C40: Price

The starting price of the POCO C50 roughly translates into $87/€80, while the POCO C40 begins at $139/€128. The C40 wins the comparison.

The Poco C40 was announced for the global market back in June and it comes with some decent features. It is powered by a JLQ JR510 chipset and has a 6,000mAh battery. It has a 6.71-inch screen with a 720 pixels resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. Dual 13MP cameras make up the camera setup of the Poco C40. Information on the capability of the JLQ JR510 chipset in the C40 is limited at this time. Neither JLQ nor Xiaomi have provided details yet of the chip. It is from an 11nm architecture that has 8 ARM-Cortex-A55 CPU cores and a variant of the ARM Mali-G52 GPU. When put through the paces via Geekbench, the four of the processor’s cores reached 1.5GHz while the rest had 2GHz.

The Poco C40 comes in a 3GB + 32GB or 4GB + 64GB model. Interestingly, the two RAM/storage configurations were offered at introductory prices on July 31. The 32GB storage model is now priced at €169.90 (~$174) while the 64GB storage model currently sells at €189.90 (~$195).

The massive 6,000mAh battery of the Poco C40 is one of its major highlights and Xiaomi expects the C40 to have decent reception in Europe. Black, coral green, and yellow color options are available for the smartphone.

The agency has granted approval to the smartphone. However, the certification did not reveal any specification of the handset.

According to tipster Mukul Sharma, the Poco C40 has been spotted on the TDRA (Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority) UAE website. Although the listing did not reveal any specifications of the smartphone, it does hint at an imminent launch of the new Poco phone. The upcoming smartphone has been listed on the TDRA website with model number 220333QPG and the model name “Poco C40”.

Poco also recently confirmed through a community forum post that two new smartphones, dubbed Poco C40 and Poco C40+ will soon join the smartphone brand’s affordable C-series lineup.

Poco C40 was also spotted on NBTC and BIS websites with the same model number. Poco is yet to reveal the launch and specifications of the smartphone, however, we do know some details about its specification, thanks to leaks and Rumors.

Poco C40 Specifications (Rumored)

According to previous leaks, the Poco C40 is going to be powered by an unusual processor, and it’s not Qualcomm, MediaTek, or a Unisoc SoC, but an entry-level JR510 SoC. The upcoming Poco smartphone is also expected to run MIUI Go out of the box. MIUI Go is said to be a special version of the MIUI operating system. It will be comparatively lighter than the regular OS.

The smartphone will have support for WiFi 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz. Previous listings have confirmed that the handset will only have 10W charging. It will measure 167.18 x 76.87mm (length x width).

The company has not revealed the price of the device yet, however, judging from the specs, it is likely to be priced under $128.

The company has captured a huge market share in Asian countries, especially in India. The Chinese tech giant recently launched the M4 Pro and now it is gearing up to refresh its entry-level segment with the launch of a new C-series smartphone. The device in question is the Poco C40 which recently bagged NBTC and BIS certification.

As initially spotted by Mukul Sharma, POCO C40 has visited the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) Thailand site with the model number 220333QPG and the name “POCO C40”. The same device has also appeared on the BIS India site. The listing does not reveal the specifications of the smartphone but it indicates that it might be launched soon.

It is worth noting that a device with the same model number was also spotted on the FCC certification site. The FCC listing revealed some key specifications of the smartphone. As per the listing, POCO C40 is likely to run MIUI 13 based on Android 12 out of the box. However, it is possible that the handset may carry a lite version of the MIUI software skin. The POCO C40 will carry support for WiFi 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz. The listing also confirms that the smartphone will only have 10W charging. It will measure 167.18 x 76.87mm (length x width).

Previous reports have suggested that the POCO C40 will be powered by an unusual JR510 processor manufactured by China’s JLQ technology. Moreover, the smartphone is expected to carry a 6000mAh battery and a dual-camera setup on the back.

POCO has not confirmed any details about the device, however, judging from the specs, it is likely to be priced under $128. The smartphone will see daylight later this year.

The POCO C31 brought a similar design with tweaked specs. This year, we are expected to see the POCO C4 as the successor to the two aforementioned phones and it will likely be a rebadge of the Redmi 10C/Redmi 10. Now, however, a new phone called the POCO C40 has been reported by the folks at XDADevelopers, which appears to not follow the same old rebadge suit.

The upcoming POCO C40 first appeared on the FCC certification website with model number C3QP. To recall, the Redmi 10C carries a similar model number – C3Q. Having said that, the POCO C40 was believed to be just another rebadge. However, it seems that the C40 isn’t actually a rebadge.

One of the senior XDA members kacskrz reported that the POCO C40 will not use the Snapdragon 680 chipset of the Redmi 10C, nor will it have a MediaTek or UNISOC chipset. Instead, the C40 is said to pack an entry-level chipset called the JR510.

To those unaware, the JR510 is a chipset made by China’s JLQ technology. Currently, this chipset is powered by entry-level phones made by Treswave like the TW501, TW104, and TW502. Xiaomi choosing this chipset for its sub-brand’s POCO C40 will be an uncanny choice.

Moreover, the POCO C40 was spotted on the Geekbench database with the codename “frost”. However, the phone is yet to pass the test on the platform. In addition to this, kacskrz also spotted a mention of “MIUI GO”, hinting at a lite version of the MIUI software skin. As of now, it is unclear whether the MIUI GO will work on the Android Go OS or if it will just be a software skin for the regular Android OS.

As far as its availability is concerned, the smartphone is touted to be available in all markets including the European region. POCO C40’s other specifications and release date still remain a mystery.
