The POCO F3 arrives as the Redmi K40 for global markets

Today, POCO announced the POCO F3 phone. The new device joins the growing list of flagship killers, and for POCO, this phone takes it back to its roots.

POCO F3 Design

The POCO F3 is a rebadged Redmi K40, so there is not much to say about the design. However, alongside the Night Black and Arctic White color options, it comes in a special Deep Ocean Blue colorway that the Redmi K40 isn’t available in. This color finish has three different shades of blue that make it eye-catching.

POCO F3 Specs

The POCO F3 has a 6.67-inch E4 AMOLED flat DotDisplay with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 360Hz touch sampling rate. It packs features such as MEMC, True Color, HDR10+, a 360° light sensor, and a peak brightness of 1300 nits. It also has a feature called True Display which automatically adjusts color warmth based on your environment.

As expected, there is a Snapdragon 870 processor inside which brings 5G and it is paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The back of the phone which is covered in Gorilla Glass 5 just as the front, is home to three cameras. There is a 48MP Sony IMX582 f/1.79 main camera, an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide angle camera with a 119° FOV, and a 5MP f/2.4 telemacro camera. The selfie camera is a 5MP sensor. POCO has packed the phone with several camera features for both stills and videos. The phone also has a dedicated microphone on the back for video recording and has a feature called audio zoom.

There is a 4520mAh battery inside the phone that POCO claims will provide up to 2 days of usage. It also supports 33W fast charging via USB-C, allowing you to charge from empty to full in just 52 minutes. The POCO F3 has Dolby Atmos Hi-res Audio, Hi-Res Audio Wireless, Dual Speakers, an IR blaster, and an X-axis linear motor. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The POCO F3 also has Wi-Fi 6.

POCO F3 Price and Availability

The POCO F3 is priced at €349 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB version, however, there is an early bird price of €299. The 8GB RAM version with 256GB of storage is €399 but can be purchased at an early bird price of €349.

The early bird sale runs from March 27 to April 6. It will be available for purchase first on POCO’s online store as well as the stores in the image above. It will also be available later at the online stores in the image below.

POCO F3 and X3 Pro Global launch timeline and key Specs leaked

Recently, we saw signs of POCO prepping the POCO X3 Pro and POCO F3 smartphones. Today, Indian tech influencer Mukul Sharma has come out with exclusive info regarding their Global launch and specs.

Mukul in a Twitter post, says that POCO F3 and POCO X3 Pro Global launch could happen this month, i.e., March. Among these, the POCO X3 Pro is also set to launch in countries like India as per a recent tip by another Twitter user.

To further kindle the rumor of this launch event, POCO Global Spokesperson Angus Kai Ho Ng has already tweeted “March”. Moving on, Mukul says that POCO F3 would be a rebrand of the recently launched Redmi K40 from China.

If this doesn’t ring any bells, the FCC has already certified the POCO F3 and the model number gives away that it is indeed the Redmi K40 rebrand. There are reasons why POCO could have chosen this to be the successor to the POCO F2 Pro. Xiaomi has priced the Redmi K40 aggressively at 1,999 yuan($310) in China.

And for that price, it packs in a 120Hz AMOLED display, Snapdragon 870 flagship chipset, 48MP triple rear cameras, and more. Thus, it makes a perfect combo for becoming a member of the legendary POCO F-series of devices.

POCO X3 Pro Specs(Expected)

Coming back, Mukul also sheds light on the specs of the mysterious POCO X3 Pro smartphone. He says that the device will feature a 120Hz FHD+ display, 5,200mAh battery, Snapdragon 860 chipset.

This is a yet-to-be-released chipset from Qualcomm and rumors say that it could be a boosted version of Snapdragon 855+. Also, the type of the display panel is expected to be an IPS LCD but let’s wait for the official info on that.

POCO garnered a fair bit of attention with the POCO F1 back in 2018. It was the cheapest flagship smartphone with a Snapdragon 845 chipset at that time. After that, the company has launched only a flagship POCO F2 Pro Globally and has been bringing a lot of mid-range and budget devices.

Let’s hope POCO surprises us in 2021 by bringing back the affordable flagship killer hype again.
