Gaming on phones has come a long way, but not every device is built to keep up. Flagship phones may have fast chips, but they often fall short in terms of cooling, sustained performance, or gaming features. And these are the areas where a gaming phone excels.

A gaming phone can handle heat, frame rates, and battery drain better than the rest. No surprises. However, if you count the list of manufacturers who sell dedicated gaming phones, there are just two. Asus and Nubia. 

Asus’ ROG Phone and Nubia’s RedMagic line are pretty popular among enthusiasts, and they come with the bells and whistles you expect from a gaming device. That said, these phones lack in areas except for gaming. 

Considering that we are listing out five of the best phones for gaming, each one with a different edge, whether it’s raw speed, battery life, comfort, or software.

RedMagic 10S Pro

The RedMagic 10S Pro isn’t the most polished phone on this list, but it’s the most focused on gaming, without trying to hide it. At 229g, it’s a heavy phone with an aviation-grade aluminum frame, an under-display camera, and a large 6.85-inch AMOLED screen that supports a 144Hz refresh rate. That’s higher than most games can use, but it still makes a difference in supported titles.

What really makes the RedMagic 10S Pro stand out is its active cooling system. It has a built-in fan and a vapor chamber, helping the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip maintain top performance without overheating.

It also packs a massive 7050mAh battery, the biggest on this list. It should easily last a full day of heavy gaming and regular use. And if it runs low, the 100W fast charging gets you back up quickly.

The RedMagic 10S Pro also has a bold look to it. But that might not be everyone’s cup of tea. The back has a semi-transparent design along with RGB lights and sharp corners that could be overwhelming for some. 

Still, extras like shoulder triggers, stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a dedicated game mode switch make it one of the most practical gaming phones around.

Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro

If you want a premium gaming phone that also works well for everyday use, the ROG Phone 9 Pro might be your best bet. Asus has fine-tuned its formula this year with a faster 185Hz LTPO AMOLED display, a more subtle rear matrix LED screen, and better thermal management.

It delivers the same performance as the RedMagic, thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. There’s also a second USB-C port on the side, making it easier to charge while gaming in landscape mode. And if you want extra cooling, it supports Asus’s external cooler too.

The phone is fueled by a 5,800mAh battery and supports 65 wired and 15W wireless charging. Unlike Nubia’s offering, the ROG Phone also puts more effort into cameras. You get a stabilized 50MP main shooter, a 3x zoom lens, and even a gimbal stabilization system for more stable videos and photos. 

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

Samsung doesn’t brand the Galaxy S25 Ultra as a gaming phone, but it’s easily one of the most capable in 2025. It has a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with 2600 nits peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate. That’s not the highest refresh rate on this list, but it’s fast and responsive enough for most games.

More importantly, the S25 Ultra uses a tuned version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, with slightly higher clock speeds (up to 4.47GHz). While it doesn’t have physical gaming triggers or an active cooling fan, its thermal control is reliable. The titanium build and refined design make it a more comfortable daily phone than either the ROG or RedMagic.

What it outshines the others is longevity and ecosystem. You get seven years of major Android updates, Samsung DeX for desktop gaming, UWB support, and advanced camera capabilities, including a 200MP main sensor and dual zoom lenses. 

It’s also IP68 rated, which is something missing on most gaming-specific phones. It has a 5,000mAh battery, 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. 

iPhone 16 Pro Max

Apple still doesn’t make “gaming phones,” but the iPhone 16 Pro Max doesn’t need a label to compete in the arena.

Armed with the A18 Pro chip, Apple’s own silicon continues to outperform in raw single-core scores and graphical efficiency. You might not get cooling fans or gaming triggers, but iOS game optimization means games often run smoother with lower power draw.

The 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED also supports a 120Hz refresh rate and 2000 nits HBM brightness — not quite as bright as Samsung or Asus, but consistent and vibrant. Unlike Android phones, Apple uses NVMe storage, which gives faster read/write speeds than UFS, even though RAM is limited to 8GB.

Cameras on the 16 Pro Max are arguably the best here, especially the 5x telephoto with 3D sensor-shift stabilization and Spatial Video support. You can also be sure of the battery life here, thanks to Apple’s tight software-hardware integration. 

If you prefer Apple’s ecosystem and care more about frame pacing than max FPS, this is the most polished option, but not the most flexible one for hardcore gaming.

Poco F7 Ultra

Then there’s the Poco F7 Ultra, the surprise hit of the list. It’s not cheap, but it’s aggressively priced compared to Samsung and Apple, and it doesn’t cut many corners.

With the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, up to 16GB RAM, and a QHD+ AMOLED display that peaks at 3200 nits, Poco has made one of the best-looking and fastest displays on the market. And it supports 3840Hz PWM dimming, which should be gentler on your eyes during marathon sessions.

The camera setup is surprisingly capable for a gaming phone, including a 2.5x optical zoom telephoto and a 32MP ultrawide. But more importantly, it includes 120W wired charging and 50W wireless, which outpaces every phone on this list except in battery capacity.

At 5300 mAh, the battery is still generous, and with Bluetooth 6.0, Snapdragon Sound, and IP68 water resistance, the phone is more than capable for a gaming cum everyday phone. 

So… which one’s the best?

If you want raw performance, top-tier cooling, and zero compromises, the RedMagic 10S Pro is tough to beat. It offers the highest RAM, the most aggressive thermal setup, and the fastest storage of the bunch.

The ROG Phone 10 Pro comes next. It’s still a gaming powerhouse, but with a more balanced approach and a higher price tag. It feels like a phone that could double as a portable workstation.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max are ideal if you want a premium flagship that also happens to game well. But neither is built specifically for gaming; they just handle it well enough.

Then there’s the Poco F7 Ultra. It delivers near-flagship performance at a more affordable price and probably has the best screen on any phone this year.

The live shot suggests the phone has a flat display, similar to the predecessor.

The Poco F7 is expected to be a rebadged version of the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, launched in China this April, which comes with a 6.83″, 1.5K AMOLED display, aluminum middle frame, glass back, and a dual camera setup on the back. The display uses a wider 19.5:9 aspect ratio compared to the 20:9 ratio of the F6 and most other Android phones on the market.

The FCC listing confirms that the Poco F7 will support multiple 5G bands, Wi-Fi 802.11ax/be, Bluetooth, and NFC. It will run Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 15.

The Poco F7 Ultra and Redmi K80 Pro are, at their core, siblings under Xiaomi’s umbrella. But as usual with Xiaomi’s strategy, they’re targeted at slightly different audiences and priced differently across markets. 

On paper, both these phones appear nearly identical, to the point where you’d wonder if there’s any real difference beyond the logos stamped on their backs. But when you dig deeper, the small differences can matter. Let’s break it down.

Design and Build

When you hold either phone, you won’t feel much of a difference. Both phones share the exact same dimensions — 160.3 x 75 x 8.4 mm — and both weigh around 212 grams (the K80 Pro has a slightly heavier variant at 217g depending on configuration). Their frames are aluminum which keeps both the front and back glass panels in pace. And the phones are IP68 water and dust resistance making them capable of surviving in up to 2.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.

However, the glass protection is where the two differ. The Poco F7 Ultra uses Poco Shield Glass, while the Redmi K80 Pro relies on Longjing Glass 2. On paper, both are designed to resist scratches and cracks, but we can not say for sure which offer better protection here. 

Display

In the display department, you’re essentially looking at the same panel. Both phones feature a 6.67-inch AMOLED with support for 68 billion colors, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and a 120Hz refresh rate. Peak brightness hits a blinding 3200 nits, which is more than enough to stay visible even under harsh sunlight.

Resolution is flagship-grade too — 1440 x 3200 pixels, translating to a sharp 526 ppi pixel density. Both phones use an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, a more reliable and faster tech than optical sensors.

So if display quality is your deciding factor, there’s no real winner here. Both phones deliver equally well.

Performance

Under the hood, both phones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, built on a 3nm process. The CPU layout is the same: 2x Cortex Oryon V2 Phoenix L at 4.32 GHz and 6x Oryon V2 Phoenix M at 3.53 GHz, with the Adreno 830 GPU handling graphics.

Both phones ship with Android 15 layered with HyperOS 2. In real-world use, this chipset is more powerful than most users will need. Whether you’re multitasking, gaming, or editing videos, you won’t notice much lag or stutter.

The phones are available in slightly different memory configurations. The Poco F7 Ultra starts with a 12GB RAM base paired with 256GB storage while the top-tier model has 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. Memory is LPDDR5X while the storage is UFS 4.1.

The Redmi K80 Pro also starts at 12/256GB base but the highest configured model has 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. However, it’s worth noting that it uses UFS 4.0, slightly slower than Poco’s UFS 4.1.

In practice, the difference between UFS 4.0 and 4.1 is negligible for day-to-day tasks. But if you’re particular about having the fastest storage or need a 1TB option, the K80 Pro has a clear edge.

Cameras

The rear camera setup is identical on both phones:

• 50MP main camera (f/1.6, OIS, 1/1.55” sensor)
• 50MP telephoto with 2.5x optical zoom and OIS
• 32MP ultrawide with a 120° field of view

Both phones can shoot up to 8K at 24fps and support advanced stabilization and high frame rate modes — including 4K at 60fps and even slow-motion at 1920fps in 720p.

Where the difference appears is on the front camera. The Poco F7 Ultra uses a 32MP selfie camera, while the Redmi K80 Pro opts for a 20MP shooter. In good lighting, you might not notice much difference, but for those who rely heavily on front cameras — whether for video calls, content creation, or social media — Poco’s higher resolution sensor has the upper hand, at least on paper.

That said, the K80 Pro supports gyro-EIS on the front camera for smoother videos, a feature missing in the spec sheet of the F7 Ultra.

Battery and Others

Battery capacity is one area where these phones go in different directions.

The Poco F7 Ultra packs a 5300mAh battery, while the Redmi K80 Pro uses a larger 6000mAh silicon-carbon battery. Both phones support 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

As for the audio, both have stereo speakers but you don’t get a headphone jack support. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and an Infrared blaster. And the positioning systems are also identical with support for NavIC, GPS (L1+L5), GLONASS, BDS, Galileo, and QZSS. 

The under-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and a full suite of sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, proximity) are also common to both.

So, Which One Should You Buy?

Now as you can tell, both phones are strikingly similar. The Redmi K80 Pro has a few key advantages over Poco as it packs a massive 6,000mAh battery for longer endurance and offers up to 1TB of storage. While the F7 Ultra has a higher-res selfie camera. 

These differences are minor, but price could be a major deciding factor for users. And fortunately, you can get the Redmi K80 Pro for $100 less at starting than the Poco F7 Ultra. The POCO F7 Pro features 50MP (Main) + 8MP (Ultra Wide) dual cameras on the rear, while the front houses a 20MP sensor for selfies and video calls. While this is a downgrade from the POCO F7 Ultra, it is better than the Ultra variant in the battery department. It houses a larger 6,000mAh cell, although it skips wireless charging and only offers 90W wired fast charging.

Publication XpertPick has come across the Poco F7 Ultra with the model number 24122RKC7G in Geekbench AI’s database. The listing reveals that the device will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with 16GB of RAM, and will run on Android 15.

Reports suggest that the Poco F7 Ultra will be a rebranded version of the Redmi K80 Pro, which launched in November 2024 in China. The Geekbench AI listing further supports this claim, confirming that the F7 Ultra shares the same chipset as the K80 Pro.

Being a rebranded K80 Pro, the F7 Ultra is expected to feature a 6.67-inch OLED display with 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It may offer up to 512GB of storage and pack a 6,000mAh battery with support for 120W wired and 50W wireless charging. The camera setup may include a 20-megapixel selfie camera on the front, while the rear panel could house a 50-megapixel (OIS) main sensor, a 32-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 50-megapixel (2x telephoto, OIS) sensor.

The Poco F7 Ultra and F7 Pro are expected to launch globally later this month. The F7 Pro is speculated to be a rebranded Redmi K80, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Meanwhile, the Poco F7 is anticipated to debut in Q2 2025, powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8s Elite chipset. Although, it seems like POCO has some ambitious plans, according to Brar.

Based on our earlier reports, the POCO F7 Ultra is a rebranded Redmi K80 Pro model. Meanwhile, the POCO F7 is a renamed version of the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro. It is unclear why POCO might be making this move. There’s a chance that the F7 Pro and F7 Ultra may launch under a different name in the region. However, this isn’t completely surprising as the brand made a similar move last year as well.

For those unaware, the POCO F6 series made its global debut in Dubai, but only the base model made its way to the Indian market. However, a new leak from tipster Yogesh Brar suggests that Indian consumers might not see the Poco F7 Pro and F7 Ultra hitting local shelves this year. According to the leak, the brand has “ambitious” plans (though it’s not clear exactly what that means), but if the leak is true, only the base model, Poco F7, will launch in India.

In fact, the F7 has already surfaced on India’s BIS and Singapore’s IMDA certification platforms. It is rumored to be a rebranded version of the Redmi Turbo 4, which recently debuted in China.

While Indian markets may miss out on the Pro and Ultra variants, the devices are expected to roll out in global markets. Now that Poco is done with the launch of the X7 series, it is expected to unveil the F7 series in the coming weeks. For the uninitiated, the F series is Poco’s flagship product lineup and they sit above the X series.

A lot about these upcoming devices has been appearing on the web lately. For the first time, the lineup will include an ‘Ultra’ model. This top variant will be accompanied by vanilla and ‘Pro’ versions.

Thanks to multiple sources, a lot about the forthcoming Poco F7 Ultra is out in the open. Here in this post let’s go through all the known details.

A rebranded product as usual

Poco is part of the Xiaomi group. Except for its first product, the Poco F1 (aka Pocophone F1), the rest of its lineup so far has been either tweaked or rebranded variants of devices from sister brand Redmi.

So it’s not surprising to learn that the upcoming Poco F7 Ultra is a rebranded Redmi K80 Pro. The Redmi device bears the codename miro, while its Poco version is called miro_global.

The F7 Ultra is expected to retain the specs of the K80 Pro. However, it could arrive in different finishes in terms of colors.

Most premium Poco phone to date

The Poco F7 Ultra will offer the best set of specs on a Poco smartphone to date. It will not only house the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm but also arrive with other matching features.

The device will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. It will sport a 6.67-inch flat OLED display with a QHD+ resolution (3200 x 1440 pixels), a 120Hz refresh rate, and 1800 nits global peak brightness level in HBM (High Brightness Mode). The panel will support DC dimming, Dolby Vision, 2560Hz PWM dimming, 12-bit color depth, and 3200 nits local peak brightness level.

The touchscreen can be operated even while the surface is wet. Under the screen, the phone will use an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

Further, the handset will arrive with a triple camera system on the back and a 20MP front-facing shooter. The rear setup will consist of a 50MP Light Fusion 800 primary sensor, a 50MP 2.5x floating telephoto unit, and a 32MP ultrawide snapper.

On the software front, the device will boot HyperOS 2 based on Android 15. It will be IP68-rated for dust and water resistance.

Finally, it is expected to draw power from a 6,000mAh Silicon Carbon battery and carry support for 120W wired and 50W wireless charging standards.

Limited availability

The Poco F7 Ultra will not be available in all the regions where Poco has its presence. There’s just a single regional variant of the handset.

The phone is only expected to hit the shelves in select countries in Europe and Southeast Asia. This means it will not be sold in India.

The devices were spotted in the regulatory listing with their model numbers and marketing names: 24117RK2CG for the Poco F7 Pro, and 24122RKC7G which is the F7 Ultra. Interestingly, the standard model is absent from the listing, we can expect it to appear sooner or later.

What we know so far

The POCO F7 Pro has previously appeared on TDRA and IMDA certifications, corroborating its model number, 24117RK2CG. The IMDA listing revealed support for 5G, Bluetooth, NFC, and Wi-Fi connectivity. 

Additional details from the FCC show the Pro model will feature a 5830mAh battery, support for 90W fast charging, and Xiaomi’s new HyperOS 2.0. Connectivity options like 5G NR, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.4 are expected as standard.

Meanwhile, the POCO F7 Ultra has surfaced on FCC and IMDA certifications as well. According to the FCC, the Ultra model will offer configurations of 12GB + 256GB, 12GB + 512GB, and 16GB + 512GB, and will run Android 15-based HyperOS 2. Connectivity upgrades include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth BR/EDR/LE.

Rebranded Redmi Models?

Speculation is rife that the POCO F7 Pro and Ultra might be rebranded versions of the Redmi K80 and K80 Pro, respectively. If true, the Pro model could house the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, while the Ultra might debut with a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.

A new Poco F7 Ultra has now surfaced in the IMEI listing with model number 24122RKC7G. Spotted by X user, it appeared alongside the Poco F7 Pro.

Interestingly, the Poco F7 Ultra’s model number matches that of the Redmi K80. This suggests that the Poco F7 Ultra could be a rebranded version of the Chinese Redmi K80. If that indeed comes true, here’s what you can expect from the device.

Redmi K80 Specifications

The Redmi K80 is expected to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. On the front, we might get a 2K flat OLED display, which according to a previous report, will be made by TCL.

Moving on, the device is also expected to feature a telephoto lens capable of shooting macro shots. We might also see the phone packing a big 6500mAh battery.

Big battery, especially in the range of 6000mAh, seems to be a trend for smartphones in 2024. Several flagship devices are rumored to include batteries in this range, and even Redmi’s own Note 14 Pro+ also has a 6200mAh cell.
