These companies release a huge number of budget devices every year and they are among the best ones for those who want to save money while still getting a great device. The latest affordable handset launched by Realme is the Realme V20: a phone which comes with 5G even though it offers the most affordable price. In a similar price range, you can find the POCO M4 5G: it is another of the most affordable phones with 5G connectivity. Given that these two devices are currently very hot, we decided to compare them. Here is a comparison between the specifications of the Realme V20 and the POCO M4 5G, very useful if you were wondering which will be your next entry-level phone.

Design

The Realme V20 is definitely one of the most beautiful entry-level devices out there. It has flat borders just like the iPhones, it has no big dimensions and its cameras do not come inside a camera module but they are placed directly on the rear side, even though they are protruding. The presence of a waterdrop notch ruins the overall design experience, but you can not pretend a punch hole on a so affordable phone. The POCO M4 5G is definitely less elegant because of its big camera module and classic curved borders. It has bigger dimensions, it is thicker than the Realme V20, and it comes with a waterdrop notch too. However, there are two important advantages when it comes to the build quality: it has the Gorilla Glass 3 protection and it is splash resistant, and it is not easy to find these elements on an affordable phone.

Display

The display of the POCO M4 5G is way better than the panel found on the Realme V20. It is an IPS LCD display with a diagonal of 6.58 inches, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, protected by Gorilla Glass as already mentioned. The Realme V20 has an IPS panel with a 6.5-inch diagonal and an HD+ resolution of 720p, nothing special. As you can clearly see from the specifications, the display of the POCO M4 5G is able to show images with a higher level of detail and it even provides a smoother viewing experience thanks to a 90 Hz refresh rate. These displays are nothing special because they are low-end LCD panels, so do not expect a huge image quality. The POCO M4 5G and the Realme V20 are equipped with side-mounted fingerprint readers and they come with mono speakers, but they have a 3.5 mm audio jack for the headphones.

Hardware/Software

The Realme V20 and the POCO M4 5G are powered by the same processor: the Dimensity 700 by Mediatek built at 7 nm and running at a max frequency of 2.2 GHz. It is composed of two Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 2 GHz, as well as a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. The Dimensity 700 is the most affordable 5G chipset by Mediatek to date but it provides good performance. The Realme V20 wins the comparison because it offers a higher amount of RAM: up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage, while the POCO M4 5G stops at 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB. Note that the POCO runs Android 12 out of the box, while the Realme is still based on Android 11. These phones are good for average or entry-level users, not for power users or gamers, but they are not disappointing in terms of performance.

Camera

The most advanced camera is the one found on the POCO M4 5G. It has a better main camera with a 50 MP resolution: it is not a camera phone, but it offers a decent photo quality. The main camera is paired with a 2 MP depth sensor. The Realme V20 has a 13 MP main camera and a 0.3 MP depth sensor, disappointing for those who look for great photo quality. So if you need the best camera phone in this comparison, you know what to choose without thinking twice.

Battery

There is no difference between the capacities of the batteries of these two phones. They both come with a 5000 mAh lithium unit, but the Realme V20 should provide a longer battery life on a single charge simply because its display is more efficient due to the HD resolution and standard refresh rate. On the other hand, the POCO M4 5G remains an amazing battery phone and, unlike the V20, it supports fast charging.

Realme V20 vs Xiaomi POCO M4 5G: Price

You need at least $239/€226 to purchase the POCO M4 5G, while the Realme V20 5G starts from about €141/$149. The POCO phone wins the comparison due to its better display, cameras, and fast charging, but the V20 is more affordable and beautiful.

But now, it seems that the company is planning on releasing the device in the global market soon, as it was spotted on a known certification website.

The Chinese smartphone maker’s 5G enabled M4 model is a budget phone. It was just spotted on the NBTC certification database. In this listing, the device carried the model number 22041219PG, so we can expect the global launch to be near. Previously, the handset had even surfaced on other known certification sites like FCC and IMDA databases as well. Unfortunately, the listing did not reveal any other finer details, but the recent Indian launch revealed its entire specifications. So let’s have a look.

The POCO M4 5G sports a 6.58 inch IPS LCD panel that has a Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate support as well. This screen also has a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. Under the hood, the device is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC that is paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The storage can be further expanded by up to 512GB via a MicroSD card slot.

The smartphone is powered by a large 5,000mAh battery pack that supports 18W fast charging from a USB Type C port. On the rear, it features a dual camera setup, consisting of a 50 megapixel primary shooter and a 2 megapixel depth sensor. Meanwhile, the front houses an 8 megapixel selfie camera. Other features include, Android 12, side mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Since the device was spotted on another certification site, we can expect POCO to announce its official global launch date soon.

The M4 is offered in two storage variants, with the 4GB + 64GB option costing 12,999 INR. On the other hand, the 6GB + 128GB version has a price tag of 14,999 INR. The Chinese brand is also adding a special launch offer that includes a 2,000 INR discount with SBI Credit cards.

In a recent press release and tweet on Twitter, the Chinese smartphone maker announced that the POCO M4 5G will be launching at the end of this month. The smartphone will be unveiled on 29th April 2022 and will apparently be sold exclusively through Flipkart.com, a popular Indian e-commerce platform. Furthermore, the tweet reads “you’re about to witness the #KillerLooksOPPerformer for yourself,” so it is clear that the company is placing a focus on performance and design.

While the official specifications are currently unknown, we do have past reports that share some details. The M4 5G will reportedly sport a 6.58 inch LCD panel that has a Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. On the front, the device might feature a 5 megapixel selfie shooter, while the rear houses a 50 megapixel primary lens paired with a 2 megapixel depth sensor. Under the hood, the smartphone is expected to be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 700 chip.

This chipset is rumored to be paired with either 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. It will likely run on Android 12 OS based MIUI 13 out of the box and be powered by a large 5,000mAh battery pack that could support 18W fast charging. Keep in mind that these specs are based on previous rumors and reports so take it with a pinch of salt and stick around for more, since we will be covering the launch event.

It is unclear whether the POCO M4 5G will be made available in all three variants in different markets.

According to a MySmartPrice report, the upcoming smartphone has surfaced in the database of FCC and even IMDA. In other words, this also hints at an imminent launch as well. The Chinese brand is expected to launch the device in a number of markets soon, with the FCC listing revealing its model number 22041219G. Furthermore, the data also shows that the POCO M4 5G will run on MIUI 13 out of the box, which is likely based on the Android 11 OS.

The listing also revealed that the device will arrive with support for three 5G bands. It even confirmed three of its storage configurations as well. So, the POCO M4 5G will come with a 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage option, a 4GB + 128GB variant, and a top end 6GB + 128GB model as well. Apart from FCC, the device was also spotted on the IMDA certification website as well. Unfortunately, this listing does not reveal any additional information but does hint at its near launch.
