POCO has just launched its latest entry from its mid range X series of smartphones in the Indian market. The company has released the new POCO X5 in the region today (14th March 2023), so here are all the details.

The X5 sports a 6.7 inch Full HD+ AMOLED display that offers 1200 nits of peak brightness, 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. This panel also supports 100 percent DCI P3 color gamut along with SGS certification for eye care. Meanwhile, the rear packs a triple camera setup on a large camera island that also carries the brand’s logo. Under the hood, the POCO X5 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC that is paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage.

On the rear, it features a 48 megapixel primary camera that is paired with an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle lens, and a 2 megapixel macro sensor. The front houses a 13 megapixel selfie shooter in a center aligned punch hole cutout. The smartphone is powered by a large 5,000mAh battery pack that supports up to 33W fast charging. Other notable features include, IP53 water and dust resistance, 3.5mm headphone hack with Hi-Res audio support, IR Blaster, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and more.

The POCO X5 5G will be available in India in two storage variants. The 6GB + 128GB model has a price tag of 18,999 INR, while the higher end 8GB + 256GB variant costs 20,999 INR. The Chinese smartphone maker is also offering a bank discount worth and an additional exchange offer worth 2,000 on the first day of the sale. The device will go on sale starting from March 21 and the device will be available in three color options, namely Jaguar Black, Wildcat Blue, and Supernova Green, exclusively on Flipkart.

The Poco X5 series made its global debut in early February. The brand launched two devices for the global market called the Poco X5 5G and the Poco X5 Pro. Out of these two, only the Poco X5 Pro was launched in India. However, the brand will soon be launching the vanilla X5 model as it has now released an official teaser.

The teaser doesn’t outright state the name of the device, however, the hints are enough to guess that it is indeed the Poco X5 5G. Additionally, the brand also reveals that the Poco X5 will be priced below Rs 20,000 ($244) in India. Let’s take a look at what you can expect to get in this price range.

Poco X5 specs

The POCO X5 boasts an impressive display, featuring a 120Hz AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution and 1200nits peak brightness. The panel measures 6.67 inches and offers a contrast ratio of 45,00,000:1. Protection is ensured with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and a centered punch hole notch houses the front camera.

Running the show is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor with an integrated Adreno 619 GPU. You can expect up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage and 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The phone comes with MIUI 13 for POCO, based on Android 12.

On the camera front, the POCO X5 flaunts a triple-rear camera setup, including a 48MP sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP macro sensor, and an LED flash. A 13MP front camera is available for selfies and video calls.

The POCO X5 packs a 5000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging over USB Type-C. Users can enjoy a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that doubles as the power button, a micro-SD card slot, a 3.5mm audio jack, and an IR blaster.

The POCO X5 is already available in Blue, Black, and Green colors for various markets. It measures 165.88 × 76.21 × 7.98mm and weighs 189 grams. It has an IP53 rating, making it dust and splash-resistant.

Poco X5 5G Appeared on BIS, FCC Certification Sites, May Launch Soon

Poco X4 made its debut earlier this year, and it wasn’t quite what we had hoped from the Poco X3’s successor. Nevertheless, the company now seems to be working on the Poco X5 5G, and it might launch soon since it has already bagged a few certifications. Recently, the handset has been spotted on the FCC and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) websites. Let’s look at the details.

Poco X5 5G has been spotted on the BIS and FCC certification sites with model numbers 22101320I and 22101320G, respectively (via MySmartPrice). The FCC listing hints the device will have a rectangular camera module design and support dual-band Wi-Fi. Further, it is revealed that the Poco X5 will come with a 4900mAh battery, which will likely be advertised as 5000mAh.

The FCC suggests the handset will have the n5, n7, n38, n41, n77, and n78 5G bands. On the software front, it will run MIUI 14. The Indian variant of the smartphone has been spotted on the BIS website with model number 22101320I. As usual, the listing did not reveal any specs about the device but suggested an imminent launch.

As MySmartPrice rightly points out, POCO India’s chief Himanshu Tandon recently hinted that the company will launch a new phone, likely the Poco X5 5G. The brand should announce the launch date of the handset soon. We’ll keep you posted.

It is rumored that the upcoming Poco handset will come with an IPS LCD panel that will offer a 120Hz refresh rate. Poco X5 is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC, which is also found on the Nothing Phone (1).
