One of the competitors of Tesla in the electric vehicle market, Polestar, just unveiled their first phone. We actually knew this one coming up as we shared a post revealing that Polestar would launch on April 23 a few days ago. Furthermore, we previously shared with you that the Polestar Phone would be a Meizu 21 Pro clone before the phone’s release. In fact, the Polestar Phone and the Meizu 21 Pro have same specifications. Let’s take a look at this AI-powered phone that works seamlessly with a Polestar electric car.

Polestar Phone: A new way to control your EV with new AI features

The Polestar Phone phone features Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 80W wired and 50W wireless charging, and a triple camera configuration that includes a 50 MP main camera (1/1.3″), a 10 MP telephoto camera, and a 13 MP ultrawide-angle camera. We cannot say that the phone’s camera hardware is very powerful. However, we do not expect a phone introduced by an electric vehicle manufacturer to have high-end specifications.

We can say that the differentiating factor of the Polestar Phone from the Meizu 21 Pro is the user interface. The phone runs on Polestar Phone OS, which can actually be thought of as a themed version of Flyme OS. The phone’s user interface actually has similar design elements found in the Polestar EV’s user interface design.

Polestar Phone comes with some AI features, including AI image search, image generation, and text summarization, which we are familiar with seeing on some smartphones. In addition to these features, it comes with Polestar Link to control Polestar electric vehicles, allowing users to monitor the status of their EVs. Polestar Link is a very good tool in China since Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available there. Polestar Link aims to provide a seamless experience to the Chinese EV users.

The phone was launched in China and it’s not known whether it will be available globally or not, the 16GB+1TB variant costs 7,388 CNY in China which is 1,020 USD.

Polestar, the electric car manufacturer, just announced the launch of its debut smartphone, the Polestar Phone. Positioned as an AI flagship for the “driver’s internet ecosystem,” the phone will be officially revealed at an event on April 23.

The company says the phone design is a collaboration between Polestar’s global design team in Gothenburg, Sweden, and the Meizu design team. The primary color is “Polestar White,” with stylish accents in “Swedish gold” that mirror the seat belts and Brembo brakes seen in Polestar vehicles.

Polestar is also prioritizing sustainability with its upcoming phone. The company says the phone’s packaging and case are made from eco-friendly materials in line with Polestar’s zero-carbon goals. 

The phone itself utilizes NP66 aerospace-grade aluminum for the middle frame and AG glass with a “soft sand crystal sparkle process” for the back cover. Its display boasts a 21:9 aspect ratio with 2K+ resolution and 2.2mm symmetrical bezels on all sides. 

Now if you have noticed, there are similarities between the Polestar Phone and the Meizu 21 Pro. This isn’t a coincidence, as previous reports suggested the Polestar Phone might be a rebranded version of the Meizu phone.

Following this logic, the Polestar Phone could potentially feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, a 6.79-inch 2K+ 120Hz LTPO display, and a triple-lens camera system with a 50-megapixel main sensor. Battery life could come courtesy of a 5050mAh battery with support for fast wired and wireless charging.

Geely’s Polestar Motor is keeping the details under wraps for their upcoming phone, but has teased a “new experience” coming in a video set to be released on April 16th.

The phone has been previously confirmed to be a rebranded Meizu 21 Pro

The short teaser video showcases a phone with a straight screen, the Polestar 4 EV on the display. The phone is accompanied by a dark gold charging cable, matching the color of a Polestar car seat belt. This phone, previously leaked in March, was confirmed to be a rebranded version of the Meizu 21 Pro. The most noticeable difference being the logo. Both phones are manufactured by Zhuhai Meizu Technology Co., Ltd.

Based on previous leaks of the Meizu 21 Pro, here are some of the expected specs: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, a 6.79-inch 2K+ resolution 120Hz LTPO display, and a 4651mm² VC heat dissipation system. The 21 Pro also offers features such as an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, an Aicy smart RGB-LED ring, an IR blaster, and dual speakers. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. It has a starting price of 4,999 Yuan (~$703) in China.

Polestar Phone is said to be in the works for the Chinese market. A recent report claimed it could be a rebranded version of the Meizu 21 Pro, which recently debuted in China. It appears this is indeed true, as images of the Polestar Phone emerged through MIIT certification, revealing a design identical to the Meizu flagship.

Polestar Phone design revealed

Polestar Phone’s images from MIIT certification suggest that it looks exactly like the Meizu 21 Pro. Being a Polestar product, it has the company’s logo at the centre and the “Polestar Phone” text engraved at the bottom. The certification has no information about the specifications of the device yet. However, it may pack the same internals as the Meizu 21 Pro. Here is a look at the specs of the Meizu phone.

Meizu 21 Pro specifications

The Meizu 21 Pro features a 6.79-inch BOE Q9 OLED QHD+ display with a resolution of 3198 x 1368 pixels and LTPO 120Hz refresh rate, reaching a peak brightness of 1250 nits. It runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and offers 12 GB / 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM, coupled with 256 GB / 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Powering the Meizu 21 Pro is a 5,050mAh battery that supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The front camera is a 32-megapixel shooter, while the rear setup includes a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide and macro lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with OIS.

The 21 Pro also offers features such as an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, an Aicy smart RGB-LED ring, an IR blaster, and dual speakers. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. It has a starting price of 4,999 Yuan (~$703) in China.

In the world of phone leaks, it’s crucial to get things right. We recently talked about the Polestar Phone and thought it was a Meizu 20 Infinity in disguise. It looks like GSMChina made a mistake and published an apology blog. The Polestar Phone is actually a Meizu 21 Pro and in this article, we want to clarify some things.

We actually first met the Polestar Phone back in November. At the time Meizu had registered it as the Meizu 21 Pro, but we didn’t know all the technical details yet. The surprise came when we learned about the Polestar Phone just two days before Meizu officially launched the 21 Pro. The model we thought was the Polestar Phone two weeks ago turned out to be the satellite communication version of the Meizu 20 Infinity.

The Polestar Phone has the model number “M481S“. GSMChina has learned that this number is actually associated with the Meizu 21 Pro, not the Meizu 20 Infinity. Thanks to a recent update from the Geely team, we now have a clear knowledge of the correct model relationship. Let’s make things right by understanding the correct model numbers.

In the first report, it was mistakenly said that the model number “M392S” was the Polestar Phone. After digging deeper, we learned that this model number actually belongs to the satellite communication version of the Meizu 20 Infinity, not the Polestar Phone.

Swedish electric car maker Polestar has announced its entry into the smartphone market with its first smartphone, the Polestar Phone, launching in December.

The design of the phone has been teased in a short video, which shows a device with flat frames and vertically stacked cameras at the back, reminiscent of the Meizu 20 series. Polestar announced its plans to launch a Meizu-made smartphone back in September, so this design is not a surprise.

Each camera ring has its focal length and aperture size labeled. It shows a 23mm equivalent main camera with an f/1.9 aperture, a 70mm telephoto lens with an f/2.0 aperture, and a 15mm ultrawide lens with an f/2.4 aperture.

On the front, the phone has a punch hole cutout for the selfie camera. The sides feature Polestar branding while the back has the company logo.

As a car manufacturer, Polestar is likely to focus on seamless connectivity between its cars and phones. However, the exact details of this integration are not yet known.

Meizu, which is owned by the same parent company as Polestar, has its own Flyme Auto car software. However, reports from China suggest that the Polestar Phone may offer a Polestar OS interface, which is likely developed in collaboration with Meizu.

Polestar has not yet revealed any specifications for the phone, but it is rumored to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. We’ll have to wait for the official announcement for more details on the device.
