Meta had recently laid off 11,000 people, the majority of whom worked in their technology business. The number of sacked employees amounts to 13% of the brand’s overall workforce. Meta is preparing to eliminate two of its unreleased smartwatches and its Portal Video calling smart displays after firing the employees.

Back in June, Meta announced that it would no longer be producing any more Portal devices for consumers. Furthermore, the brand had abandoned the smartwatch in development under the codename “Milan.” According to reports, the smartwatch was scheduled to arrive in 2023. It will be priced at about $350 and will include two built-in cameras for video calls. Now, the company has made another decision to abandon its plans to launch its unreleased smartwatches.

According to the reports hovering around the internet, Meta has decided not to sell the Portal video calling hardware to businesses anymore. And there are two unreleased smartwatches, one of them is in the early stage of development while the other one is in the middle stage of development, which is also killed by the brand. The development work has been stopped officially for them, and they will no more launch in the market. The brand has not yet commented officially on the decision.

As of now, we are not sure why the company has decided to discontinue selling its Portal video calling technology and has abruptly halted development work on its unannounced wearables.
