<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-11/">OnePlus 11</a> had only managed to achieve a screen-on-time of 5 hours and 33 minutes in a recent product review of the device by a prominent technology enthusiast online.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In his most recent video, titled &#8220;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUOOSG5m5yw">OnePlus 11 Review</a>&#8220;, Chinese technology content creator, Xiaobai&#8217;s Tech Reviews collected all battery life data amongst all notable smartphones released in the past 5 months. In his findings, it was discovered that the OnePlus 11 had only managed to achieve a screen-on-time (SOT) of 5 hours and 33 minutes, the worst amongst all Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship devices released so far.&nbsp;</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="538" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Graphic_UP-1024x538.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-507017" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Graphic_UP-1024x538.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Graphic_UP-300x158.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Graphic_UP-768x403.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Graphic_UP-1536x807.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Graphic_UP-2048x1076.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Graphic_UP-696x366.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Graphic_UP-1068x561.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Graphic_UP-1920x1009.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Graphic_UP-799x420.jpg 799w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The battery endurance test consisted of mixed smartphone usage on social media, video and music streaming, video recording, as well as heavy smartphone gaming with releases such as Genshin Impact, Honor of Kings, and Game For Peace (PUBG rebrand in China). Do note that the software applications tested here are meant for the Chinese market, global releases may have different software battery optimisations.</p>

<p>Despite sporting a rather large 5000mAh battery, the OnePlus 11 lasted shorter than the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-k60-pro/">Redmi K60 Pro</a> with the same-sized 5000 mAh cell, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-13-pro/">Xiaomi 13 Pro</a> with a 4820mAh cell and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/vivo-x90-pro/">Vivo X90 Pro+</a> with a 4700mAh cell.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The reviewer noted that the main culprit behind the OnePlus 11’s rather mediocre battery life compared to its competition seems to be that the device is not properly battery-optimised for music streaming and social media browsing. The video highlighted that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-11/">OnePlus 11</a> had consumed up to 80% more battery than the Xiaomi 13 Pro on Chinese social media and microblogging site, Weibo.</p>

<p>The battery drain problem could be fixed in a future software update by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus/">OnePlus</a>, but you should base your purchases on what the device offers now, not on hopes and promises. As for gaming, the device performed on par with the competition from Xiaomi and Vivo.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="704" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Endurance_Photo-1-1024x704.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-507014" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Endurance_Photo-1-1024x704.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Endurance_Photo-1-300x206.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Endurance_Photo-1-768x528.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Endurance_Photo-1-218x150.png 218w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Endurance_Photo-1-696x478.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Endurance_Photo-1-1068x734.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Endurance_Photo-1-611x420.png 611w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Endurance_Photo-1-100x70.png 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/OnePlus-11-Battery-Endurance_Photo-1.png 1267w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Source: Xiaobai&#8217;s Tech Reviews on YouTube</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The reviewer also showed the battery endurance of all the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagships released in the market so far. Here is a short SOT ranking of the longest-lasting flagships that feature Qualcomm’s latest flagship SoC (from best to worst):&nbsp;</p>

<ol><li>Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro (tested at FHD + 120Hz) (6000 mAh) &#8211; 8 hours 17 minutes </li><li>Nubia Z50 (tested at FHD + 144Hz) (5000 mAh) &#8211; 6 hours 54 minutes </li><li>Redmi K60 Pro (tested at 2K + 120Hz) (5000 mAh) &#8211; 6 hours and 44 minutes </li><li>iQOO 11 (tested at 2K + 144Hz) (5000 mAh) &#8211; 6 hours and 23 minutes</li><li>Xiaomi 13 (tested at FHD + 120Hz) (4500 mAh) &#8211; 6 hours and 17 minutes </li><li>Xiaomi 13 Pro (tested at 2K + 120Hz) (4820 mAh) &#8211; 6 hours and 2 minutes  </li><li>Vivo X90 Pro+ (tested at 2K + 120Hz) (4700 mAh) &#8211; 6 hours and 1 minute </li><li>OnePlus 11 (tested at 2K + 120Hz) (5000 mAh) &#8211; 5 hours and 33 minutes </li></ol>

<p>The OnePlus 11 is to make its global debut next month, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/12/19/oneplus-11-india-launch-on-february-7-with-buds-pro-2/">on February 7th in India</a>, so it is hoped that OnePlus can resolve the battery drain problem before its global release. <p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a>, one of the leading smartphone chipset makers, has today officially announced its next-generation Snapdragon series flagship processor for high-end smartphones &#8212; Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.</p>

<p>As the name itself indicates, the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a successor to the last year&#8217;s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, and it comes with a focus on better and more efficient performance, especially when it comes to AI-related tasks.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1024x683.webp?x44794" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Flagship Smartphone Processor" class="wp-image-495783" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1024x683.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-300x200.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-768x512.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-696x464.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1068x712.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-630x420.webp 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-2.webp 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Kryo CPU on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 includes one prime core based on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/arm">ARM</a> Cortex-X3 clocked at 3.2GHz, as well as four performance cores at 2.8GHz and three efficiency cores at 2.0GHz. Compared to last year&#8217;s chipset, these are 200MHz to 300MHz faster. The company says the CPU is 35 percent faster than the previous generation and 40 percent more power efficient.</p>

<p>Its latest Adreno <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/gpu">GPU</a> is claimed to offer 25 percent higher performance while being 45 percent more power efficient. It also brings support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing to the Snapdragon platform. There&#8217;s support for faster memory technologies, including LP-DDR5X RAM at up to 4,200MHz and new UFS 4.0 storage.</p>

<p>Similar to the SD8 Gen 1, the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is built using a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/4nm">4nm process</a>. As for the display, the chipset comes with support for QHD+ resolution at up to 144Hz or 4K resolution at 60Hz. It also supports external displays up to 4K resolution at 60Hz with a 10-bit Rec. 2020 color gamut, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision.</p>

<p>Coming to the camera department, it has a triple 18-bit ISP that supports up to three 36MP cameras simultaneously or up to 200MP for a single-camera configuration. It also supports 108MP camera sensors with zero shutter lag. The company has also improved support for the latest Sony and Samsung sensors as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/sony">Sony sensors</a> with DOL-HDR and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/06/23/samsung-200mp-isocell-hp3-smartphone-camera-sensor/">Samsung&#8217;s 200MP HP3</a> sensors are optimized to work with the ISP on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.</p>

<p>Qualcomm says it has made improvements throughout the Hexagon processor for up to 4.35x faster <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ai">Artificial Intelligence (AI)</a> performance and claims that the chip can handle more complex tasks, like translating a language into multiple languages in real time. It is also the world&#8217;s first chip to have support for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/wi-fi-7">Wi-Fi 7</a> technology.</p>

<p>It packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon X70 modem, which was announced earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress. It has its own AI processor for boosting <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/5g">5G</a> performance and comes with support for dual active 5G SIMs, which means that users can use two different 5G networks simultaneously.</p>

<p>Qualcomm revealed a list of partners for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which includes Motorola, OPPO, and ASUS ROG, among others. However, Samsung is missing from the list, but we are pretty sure the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-galaxy-s23">Samsung Galaxy S23 series</a> flagship smartphones will come powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The company says that smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will start getting launched by the end of this year.</p>

And now, another leak has revealed other specifications regarding the upcoming high end devices and even their possible launch timeline.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-460169 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Honor-Magic-4-Pro-review-21.jpg?x44794" alt="Honor Magic 4 Pro review 21" width="1920" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Honor-Magic-4-Pro-review-21.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Honor-Magic-4-Pro-review-21-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Honor-Magic-4-Pro-review-21-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Honor-Magic-4-Pro-review-21-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Honor-Magic-4-Pro-review-21-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Honor-Magic-4-Pro-review-21-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Honor-Magic-4-Pro-review-21-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></p>
<p>The latest news arrives from a tipster @<a href="https://weibo.com/6084203417/M7EV74zQr?pagetype=profilefeed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">厂长是关同学</a> who shared the information on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website). Based on our <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/09/27/honor-magic-5-display-leak-ltpo-pwm-dimming/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previous report</a>, the Chinese smartphone maker&#8217;s Magic 5 and Magic 5 Pro will feature a 6.78 inch and 6.81 inch curved AMOLED display panel respectively, which will support PWM dimming and LTPO technology.</p>
<p>The resolution on the higher end Pro variant is rumored to be a 2K resolution with support for 120Hz high refresh rate. Now, the latest leak reveals that the latest Magic 5 series of smartphones will feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. This isn&#8217;t surprising considering the upcoming devices are the brand&#8217;s premium flagship models. For those unaware, the chipset is manufactured on TSMC&#8217;s 4nm process that has the SM8550 model number.</p>
<p>The leak further adds that the Magic 5 series will also arrive with significant improvements in terms of camera, with better image quality and even stability as well.  Notably, another major reveal is the launch time frame for the Magic 5 series. The flagship Magic 5 series will apparently launch sometime between the months of March and April of next year. This is still just a leak and has not been officially confirmed by the company yet so take this report with a grain of salt for now.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The report also states that the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 is to be an iterative upgrade over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, with little to no changes to the core layout nor ISPs, and the major difference would be the switch from </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Samsung</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">’s 4nm process on the 7 Gen 1, to </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tsmc/"><span style="font-weight: 400">TSMC</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">’s 4nm process on the 7 Gen 2. And due to the fact that the next-generation Snapdragon 7 is an iterative upgrade, it could be instead called the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 instead of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">As for the popularity of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, it is only featured on one smartphone in the market, which is the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/05/21/oppo-reno-8-pro-first-snapdragon-7-gen-1-smartphone/">Oppo Reno 8 Pro</a> mid-range smartphone that is exclusive to China. Presumably because of the bad reputation of </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Qualcomm</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">’s SoCs that are manufactured by </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Samsung</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 isn’t garnering a lot of customers among Android smartphone manufacturers, whilst the Snapdragon 778G and 778G+ which are under </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tsmc/"><span style="font-weight: 400">TSMC</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">’s 6nm foundry seem to be the more prevalent choice for Android smartphone makers instead.</span></p>

Now, the company is focusing on the next generation of Galaxt=y S-series phones</p>
<p>It is being reported that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 series smartphones will come powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, and this time, the company will be focusing on battery efficiency.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-464851 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2.jpeg?x44794" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2" width="2500" height="1250" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2.jpeg 2500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-300x150.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1024x512.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-768x384.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1536x768.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-2048x1024.jpeg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-696x348.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1068x534.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1920x960.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-840x420.jpeg 840w" sizes="(max-width: 2500px) 100vw, 2500px" /></p>
<p>The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1p processor, which is currently found in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-galaxy-s22">Samsung Galaxy S22 series</a>, and its upgraded version named Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, are powerful processors, but they are also power-hungry and generate a bit of heat. So, for the next-generation chips, Qualcomm will reportedly focus on battery consumption.</p>
<p>Based on the information available so far, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, codenamed Kailua, carries model number SM8550 and will be manufactured by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tsmc">TSMC</a> using its second-generation 4nm process.</p>
<p>The chipset will reportedly come with one fast Cortex-X3 core that provides a 25% performance boost over the X1 found in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 models, as well as two Cortex-A715, two Cortex-A710, and three Cortex-A510.</p>
<p>A few months ago, it was revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 efficiency tests are going well, and the chip has performed better than its direct predecessors. The new chip is likely to be announced in November or December this year, and the Samsung <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-galaxy-s23">Galaxy S23 series</a> will be officially launched in early 2023.</p>

Now, ahead of the launch, some details about the SoC have surfaced giving us an idea of what to expect.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-471556 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_000-2.webp?x44794" alt="Qualcomm" width="1200" height="600" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_000-2.webp 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_000-2-300x150.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_000-2-1024x512.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_000-2-768x384.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_000-2-696x348.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_000-2-1068x534.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_000-2-840x420.webp 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://wccftech.com/roundup/qualcomm-snapdragon-8-gen-2-specs-features-everything-else/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WFCCtech report</a>, only <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/TSMC/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TSMC</a> will be taking the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 orders from Qualcomm. The chipset, however, will likely not be made on TSMC&#8217;s upcoming 3nm node. This is due to the fact that Apple is TSMC&#8217;s most lucrative client and has already reserved fab capacity for the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. So, we are likely looking at Qualcomm using TSMC&#8217;s 4nm node again for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. For those unaware, it is the same node on which the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is made.</p>
<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/samsung" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Samsung</a> has recently <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/07/25/samsung-kicks-off-3nm-chip-shipments/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">started shipping</a> its cutting-edge 3nm node to clients, however, it is reported that no smartphone chipset vendor has approached Samsung for its 3nm GAA chips. A reason for <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> not placing orders with Samsung yet could be the fiasco with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The chipset was manufactured on Samsung&#8217;s 4nm node and was heavily criticized for its thermal and efficiency issues.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-464851 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2.jpeg?x44794" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2" width="2500" height="1250" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2.jpeg 2500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-300x150.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1024x512.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-768x384.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1536x768.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-2048x1024.jpeg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-696x348.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1068x534.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1920x960.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-840x420.jpeg 840w" sizes="(max-width: 2500px) 100vw, 2500px" /></p>
<p>Earlier <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/06/10/snapdragon-8-gen-2-unique-cluster-configuration/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> have mentioned that Qualcomm could opt for a “1 + 2 + 2 + 3” cluster instead of the “1 + 3 + 4” CPU cluster used on previous Snapdragon chips. This new configuration will have a high-performance core codenamed Makalu, two Makalu cores, two Matterhorn cores, and three Klein R1 cores. These codenames will correspond to Cortex-X3, Cortex-A715, and an updated Cortex-A510, which are the latest CPU architectures unveiled by ARM.</p>
<p>The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is anticipated to be coupled with Qualcomm&#8217;s most recent Snapdragon X70 5G modem in addition to its unique CPU design, enabling it to achieve new peak download speeds while using up to 60% less power. Tipster <em><a href="https://twitter.com/heyitsyogesh/status/1551795950351523840" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Yogesh Brar</a></em> has informed that we can expect significant gains in the GPU performance and around a 10% uplift in the overall performance of the chipset.</p>

<p>For those unaware, we had just reported on a leak that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/06/10/snapdragon-8-gen-2-unique-cluster-configuration/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed some details regarding the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2</a> SoC. Apparently, the next gen flagship chipset for premium smartphone will feature a unique cluster configuration. While the existing 8 Gen 1 chips have a 1 + 3 + 4 core clusters, the new 8 Gen 2 processor will feature a 1 + 2 + 2 +3 configuration.</p>
<p>The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will reportedly have one Makalu generation core, another cluster with two Makalu generation cores, followed by two Matterhorn cores, and three Klein R1 cores. But now, tipster Abhishek Yadav has claimed that two smartphones will be among the first to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. One of these flagship phones will be the Xiaomi 13. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will have a code name SM8550-Kailua configuration, which was revealed by Digital Chat Station.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-464851 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2.jpeg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi" width="2500" height="1250" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2.jpeg 2500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-300x150.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1024x512.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-768x384.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1536x768.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-2048x1024.jpeg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-696x348.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1068x534.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-1920x960.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-840x420.jpeg 840w" sizes="(max-width: 2500px) 100vw, 2500px" /></p>
<p>Furthermore, the Chinese blogger also added that the new chipset will have an Adreno 740 GPU and will be produced on the advanced 4nm process node from TSMC. As of right now, it is still too early to confirm this news. So stick around for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.</p>

<p>The company is also gearing up to launch the next-generation flagship processor towards the end of this year, which is likely to be called <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and details about the chipset have started surfacing online.</p>

<p>As <a href="https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4778450059268295">per the latest report</a> from <em>Digital Chat Station</em>, it is claimed that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which apparently has the SM8550 Kailua model number and codename, will come with a completely different cluster configuration.</p>
<p>The chipset, which will be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tsmc">TSMC</a>) based on its 4nm process, will reportedly have a 1+2+2+3 configuration instead of the usual 1+3+4 configuration.</p>
<p>The current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 comes with one <span style="font-family: Verdana, BlinkMacSystemFont, -apple-system, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif">common big <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/arm">ARM</a> core, three medium cores, and four low-power cores, a cluster design that is now being used by most chip makers for their high-end processors.</span></p>
<p>As per the report, the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-gen-2">Snapdragon 8 Gen 2</a> will have one Makalu generation core, another cluster with two Makalu generation cores, followed by two Matterhorn cores, and three Klein R1 cores. ARM&#8217;s Matterhorn generation refers to its 2021 Cortex CPUs, whereas Makalu is meant for 2022 phones.</p>
<p>This means that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could have one Cortex-X3 core, which has not been announced yet, two Cortex-A720 cores, two Cortex-A710 cores, and three older Cortex-A510 cores, likely to be coupled with the Adreno 740 GPU.</p>
