<p>Qualcomm&#8217;s next-generation flagship mobile chipset, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-gen-3/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Gen 3</a>, is expected to be announced later this month. A new leak now suggests that the new chip will outperform its predecessor, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/11/16/qualcomm-snapdragon-8-gen-2-launched/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Gen 2</a>, by a significant margin.</p>

<p>Popular tipster <em>Digital Chat Station </em>has leaked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3&#8217;s performance numbers in the AnTuTu benchmark test. According to the tipster, the new chip has scored 2 million points in total, compared to the 1.6 million points scored by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="517" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-Benchmark.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-573191" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-Benchmark.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-Benchmark-300x172.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-Benchmark-768x441.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-Benchmark-696x400.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-Benchmark-731x420.jpg 731w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>The biggest leap in performance seems to be on the GPU side, as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is said to offer a 40% improvement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the AnTuTu GPU test. It was able to score 840k in the GPU test versus the 600K in the 8 Gen 2. </p>

<p>The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to be powered by a new Adreno 750 GPU, which is likely responsible for the significant performance boost. This is good news for mobile gamers, as it means that we can expect to see even more impressive gaming performance in upcoming flagship smartphones.</p>

<p>While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3&#8217;s GPU performance is impressive, its CPU performance is less so. The tipster claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored 440K points in the CPU test, which is only 15.7% higher than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="536" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-score-1-1024x536.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-573194" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-score-1-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-score-1-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-score-1-768x402.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-score-1-696x364.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-score-1-1068x559.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-score-1-803x420.jpg 803w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Snapdragon-8-Gen-3-AnTuTu-score-1.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>However, it&#8217;s important to note that these are just early benchmarks, and the final performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 could be different. Additionally, DCS notes that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tested in the benchmark is equipped with LPDDR5T RAM, which is a new type of RAM that is faster and more efficient than LPDDR5X RAM.</p>

<p>But it&#8217;s unclear whether commercial smartphones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will ship with LPDDR5T or LPDDR5X RAM. If they ship with LPDDR5X RAM, then the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in real-world use could be slightly lower than what is shown in the benchmarks.</p>

<p>Early benchmarks for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 look promising, but it&#8217;s too early to say for sure how much better it will perform than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Qualcomm is expected to announce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on October 24, so we&#8217;ll know more soon.</p>

<p><strong><em>Must See: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/24/apple-a17-bionic-snapdragon-8-gen-3/">Apple A17 Bionic to Trump Over Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in Chipset Battle</a></em></strong></p>

<p>According to X tipster @NaveenTechWala, the Apple A17 Bionic scored 3269 in the single-core and 7666 in the multi-core test. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy with 1x Cortex-X4, 5X Cortex-A720 attained a score of 2223 in single-core and 6661 in multi-core. It is clear from these results that Apple A17 offers 47% improved performance in single-core test and 15.1% higher in multi-core with respect to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">A17 benchmark<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/iphone15?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#iphone15</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/iphone15pro?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#iphone15pro</a> <a href="https://t.co/b817WOjJtK">pic.twitter.com/b817WOjJtK</a></p>&mdash; Naveen Tech Wala (@NaveenTechWala) <a href="https://twitter.com/NaveenTechWala/status/1690356739408084992?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 12, 2023</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p>The performance improvement by switching from a 4nm node to a 3nm node can be widely seen in the Geekbench results. However, a similar improvement is seen in the Graphics performance when Apple A17 garnered a score of 30669 in Geekbench&#8217;s Compute Benchmark. It registered an exciting improvement over the iPhone 14 Pro score of 23000 and the average iPhone 14 Score of ~15000. </p>

<p>However, the source has not provided a direct link to the Gekekbench results which results in some skepticism. We suggest taking this leak as a grain of salt in the ocean.</p>

<p>Along with the benefits of the new 3nm built Apple A17 Bionic, there could be a slight increase in the pricing for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max due to an expected upsurge in the chipset manufacturing costs. </p>

<p>The Geekbench results also confirmed a clock speed of 3.7GHz that matches previous data from leaks and rumors. </p>

<h3>Increasing Competition</h3>

<p>Apart from the Apple A17 Bionic and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, MediaTek Dimensity 9300 is also set to take on the competition and<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/12/mediatek-dimensity-9300-launch-october/"> aims to outperform prior chipsets</a>. The chipset is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/12/mediatek-dimensity-9300-launch-october/">expected to launch in October </a>with 8-core all-big-core architecture. </p>
