Qualcomm offers chipsets for smartwatches under its Snapdragon Wear lineup. These include the Snapdragon Wear 2100 launched way back in 2016, the Snapdragon Wear 3100 in 2018, and lastly the Snapdragon Wear 4100 that debuted in 2020. These chipsets have long powered a vast majority of Wear OS devices. Currently, the Wear 4100 is based on a 12nm architecture whereas Samsung’s Exynos W920 is built on a 5nm process. The latter is far better in terms of performance compared to the Wear 4100.

Considering the tradition, we can expect the next generation chipset to be called Snapdragon Wear 5100. The processor is tipped to come with significant improvements and overall performance over its predecessor. Search giant Google is also focussing on Wear OS and the company’s own smartwatch is expected to debut later this year.

Qualcomm’s next-generation chipset for smartwatches is certainly something to look forward to since Google’s Wear OS 3 is also not available on many devices. Additionally, it will take some time for brands to jump onboard with the new chip.

And now, it seems that Qualcomm will play a major role in increasing the competitiveness in the smartwatch segment by releasing new Snapdragon Wear processors soon.

For those unaware, Wear OS smartwatches have received criticism in the past were the outdated Qualcomm chips that powered them. But with Google pushing to refresh its Wear OS platform through the new merger, the American chip maker is also seeking to launch new and more powerful wearable based processors as well. At the moment, one of the newest chips includes Snapdragon 4100 and 4100+, but many OEMs have yet to adopt these chips.

In other words, many vendors still lag behind Apple who dominates the segment with its Apple Watch. Although, the chip maker announced that it plans on expanding its wearable chip portfolio by launching new Snapdragon Wear processors “across segments over the next year.” Furthermore, the company also announced its new Wearables Ecosystem Accelerator program, which would seek to have Qualcomm be at the center of the new wave of Wear OS devices.

The official renders indeed elevated the curiosity as none has so far achieved frameless display on a smartwatch. Now it seems, the Rollme Hero, or at least the Rollme Hero Pro is going to be the first to be powered by Snapdragon Wear 4100+ SoC – the new processor for wearables by Qualcomm.

The Rollme Hero Series release should be around the corner as we’ve been seeing a lot of tidbits nowadays. While the real-life product may differ, the renders depict literally no visible frame on the smartwatch making it one of the best looking smartwatches out there.

As per Qualcomm, the Wear 4100+ platform comprises of a powerful applications processor and ultralow-power co-processor, which extends its hybrid architecture. It is designed to deliver super-fast performance, and connectivity, a smarter Always-On experience, and extended battery life for next-generation connected smartwatches.

The quad-core Wear 4100+ SoC peaks at 1.7GHz. Perhaps the fastest clock speed ever achieved by a Wear platform by Qualcomm. So apart from the guaranteed efficiency, the SoC should offer the best performance that you can imagine on a smartwatch.

So far, the Rollme Hero packs a bunch to lure the consumers. If the pricing is done on the mark, we could see a lot of users going for it without any second thoughts. What do you guys think?
